I've been here plenty of times for brunch, but this was my first time I sat inside to order (I got them for dinner once during covid so I had to get it to go)--and it was killer. Was in the area for a Primus show and dropped in with my brother Adam. I got the pistachio pesto pasta with chicken and the Madison Old Fashioned. He went with the sea bass. We split the waffle churro sticks for dessert. Everything was legit. Pasta was rich and flavorful--9/10. The sea bass was cooked just right and packed with flavor. Waffle churro sticks hit the spot and satisfied my sweet tooth, and that jalapeño blackberry sauce? GNARLY, in the best way! The Old Fashioned was simple, smoky, and honestly one of the best I've had. This place always crushes it at brunch, but now I know dinner's just as strong. I regret to inform you of the bad experience that my family and I had at the Madison restaurant due to the rude attitude, arrogance and entitlement of our server Rhiannon. We sat down excited to order our food after the greeter told us of the happy hour pricing that was available because we were there at 5pm. We ordered our food which was okay. It tasted fine and portions were pretty small, but was definitely over priced for what it was. What really ruined the experience was Rhiannon. The entire time we were ordering, Rhiannon was snarky and condescending. A family member asked her some simple questions about items on the menu and her dry, short responses made our entire group feel like we were dumb and "unworthy" of being served by her. We told Rhiannon that we would be splitting the checks before ordering anything since we had a group of family, but she still put everything on one check and forgot to apply the happy hour pricing. We politely reminded her that we would like to split our checks and reminded her of the happy hour pricing, to which she told us to "add it up ourselves and let her know." Okay... We all told her what we were paying for and as I was grabbing my card she said "soooo is anyone else ready to payyy" and I paid. Due to the attitude and poor service throughout, I chose not to tip her. She then asked "so you're paying without any gratuity?" To which I said "without the attitude would have been nice." She grabbed my receipt from the table and crumpled it up before storming off. Tips are meant as an addition for great service or even average service, but Rhiannon was plain rude. Finally got to try Madison after hearing so many great things. It was pretty busy at 6pm on a Sunday, and for good reason! This place is absolutely stunning with a solid menu to match. My friends enjoyed the flavors of their Chicken Milanese and the Steak dish, but were a bit disappointed in the serving size - quite small for the price. However I enjoyed my pesto pasta thoroughly and would definitely come back for it again! This is a solid restaurant with fantastic ambiance and great service. read more

Madison is uniquely good and uniquely bad at the same time. For starters, the service wasn't what you would expect for the pricing at $18 dollar cocktails and $25 dollar chicken entrees. It took 10 minutes to get a hello or a notice in the bar seating which is crazy because there were two bartenders, a bar back and an additional server in the small bar area of the restaurant. Here's where it becomes unique: the hostess and one of the bartenders were also drinking at the bar and sitting down at times while also working at other times. Look I'm a GM of a restaurant in San Diego, I get that some dive bars or lower end restaurants and our industry work this way, that's chill and can be a vibe. But this was supposed to be high end with San Francisco pricing so why is it happening here? With that being said, here are some good notes: the decor is well put together. The food is curated even if a bit minimal (the Milanese was dry with no additional sauce which was unique.) Cocktails were good. I know I'm griping about the service but seriously it's only because you all look a certain way and are priced a certain way. The service should reflect that a bit more than not otherwise it's hard to swallow the costs of things when my hostess is drinking at a bar then gets up to let me know they are doing last call for food then goes and sits back down and starts to drink again. ‍ read more

Came in fr brunch on Mother's Day weekend with my besties and our moms. It is soo cute and beautiful in there. Love the aesthetic. It was a bit warm in there, wish more air flow was available. The menu looked great. One of my besties comes often and loves it here. For me, the food was kind of basic/bland. It was fun for the vibes and spending time together but I don't think the food was all that great. My lemonade was pricey, cute, but ok. Got my mom the special horchata iced latte, she didn't like it either (we had to add simple syrup for her). She got the quesadilla special with bacon and other items. She said it was also ok. My papas lo as were prob a 4/10 for me. The eggs were firm but no flavor idk how to explain it. The potato's were too hard. The sauces were ok so not very helpful to elevate the food for me. Presentation was beautiful but flavor was not there for me. Also for one of the other mamas, her food got messed up twice. So that was not good. She got her second error plate late into our meal and didn't ask for a new correction because we were almost done eating. Luckily they removed it from the bill but now she didn't really get to enjoy her meal. The other mama, she did not like her chilaquiles, she added salt and sauce. I didn't know she didn't like it until the end when she had majority of it left over and she mentioned even the sauces didn't make it better. My bestie got the avocado toast plate and liked it! Maybe I should've stuck to a more normal breakfast. She paid extra for two slices of bacon and they provided 1 strip and like 1/4 of another strip. She had to ask for another strip.... Overall, I still had a ton of fun and staff were friendly. But meal wise, I don't think it was for me. read more

Have been here for brunch a few times and enjoyed it, but went tonight for dinner with our dog for the Wednesday doggie dine in, and were super disappointed with the service. The food was good, not amazing, but good. We had the avocado and grapefruit salad, which was nice and refreshing, as well as the pesto pasta and gnocchi. Pesto sauce was good but that pasta was nothing special. Gnocchi was very good and pillowy. Despite the food being overall pretty good, everything took forever which was frustrating. Us and the table next to us had to wave down someone to take orders after being neglected for over half an hour. The dog menu is cute and our dog enjoyed, but it's definitely geared towards bigger dogs (very large chunks of veggies). Also the dog menu says it includes a doggie dessert cookie, but we asked about it and they said they didn't have it, which was another disappointment. Not sure if the service tonight was a staffing issue or what, but probably will not bother coming back after tonight's experience. read more

Visiting from Las Vegas, my family and I were looking for a place in San Diego that felt special, relaxing, and pet-friendly and Madison checked all the boxes. We came on a Wednesday evening for their "Dinner with Your Dog" night, and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences of our trip. Right away, we were impressed by how dog-friendly the restaurant is. The staff made us (and our pups!) feel completely welcome. Our dogs even got to create their own custom dog bowl, and the portion they received was surprisingly generous. We were a little bummed to find out they didn't have the ingredients for the dog mocktails that night, but honestly, the overall experience more than made up for it. Our server was amazing! He was warm, attentive, and super helpful when it came to deciding on appetizers. We ended up trying the Portobello Fries and the Tuna Tartare. The portobello fries had a texture that wasn't quite for us (a bit too mushy), but the dipping sauces were delicious and might be worth a try for someone who enjoys that kind of earthy softness. The Tuna Tartare, on the other hand, was outstanding fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. For entrees, we went all out and tried the: * Pistachio Pesto Pasta * Lobster Risotto * Sliders * Tagliata di Manzo (sliced steak) * Clam Linguine Each dish was fantastic in its own way. The pasta was creamy and herbaceous, the risotto was rich without being overwhelming, and the clam linguine had just the right balance of briny seafood and garlicy goodness. The Tagliata di Manzo was a showstopper perfectly cooked and super flavorful. And the sliders? Gone in minutes. We really couldn't find a bad bite among the bunch. The ambiance was everything. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining, and to top it all off, there was a live jazz musician playing while we ate it truly brought the whole night together. Between the food, the music, and the relaxed yet elevated atmosphere, it was one of those moments that just felt special. Our server also helped us pick a local Ice Cream shop in town for dessert and it did not disappoint. We had such a great time that we're already talking about coming back the next time we're in San Diego. Whether you're a local or just visiting with your family (and furry friends), Madison is an experience worth making time for. Made a reservation to come on a Wednesday evening with my husband and pup. Luckily on Wednesdays, they offer dog menus where you can create your own bowl for your fur baby packed with grains, veggies, and protein. My doggo loved her meal and we were able to take the leftovers home! The ambience was amazing - live jazz was playing, drinks were so good, and the food was good too. My husband and I shared the portobello mushroom appetizer and each ordered 1 entree. My husband enjoyed the pork chop. My chicken piccata was a bit on the sour/lemony side. Madison is one of the few restaurants on this block to have their outdoor patio available for dining outside and was the perfect pick to end the summer with their summer items. I enjoyed their Summer Corn Salad from their summer menu. We also got their Warm Tomato Burrata, and for my entrée I had their Chicken Piccata. The Summer Corn Salad was sweet and savory from the corn and feta cheese. It was a good contrast to my entree that was both light and flavorful! Overall the ingredients are a bit light so I would probably add in extra leafy greens to make this dish more filling. The Warm Burrata and Tomato was also a nice shareable appetizer. The flavor of the tomatoes came out when cooked and provided some acidity. Eating it with the warm crispy slices of toasted bread and burrata helped mask the tomatoes a bit! The lemon-butter sauce from the Chicken Piccata was delicious but heavy on the lemon. It was grated with more lemon zest on top, but the capers helped to balance out the lemon flavor a bit. I would say the portions here are on the lighter side! Two starters was actually ideal for this meal, but I did get to try different things! They always have happy hour every day 4-6pm so if I were to return I'd definitely take advantage of it. Other wise, I would probably not revisit. Tried the White Bean Shakshuka with a Fickle Mistress, a mezcal with lime, strawberry, jalapeno, hibiscus flavors. Cocktails were good and strong. Also enjoyed my Shakshuka which had a some carnitas on top and a poached egg, served with pita bread you can dip. Strong tomato flavor. Wow! A cocktail that's served with a tarot card that is read to you at the table?! Not only super cool but probably the best cocktail I've ever had. For that, it gets a five star. What brings it down to a three is the service. Food was good, yes, but the service Was terrible. We sat there and sat there and sat there before, during, and after our meal, not getting checked on in our server, some gal that was also at the door with long, dark, bushy hair, was scary and mean and not friendly and should not be in the business. She is not doing that restaurant any service because I think it's fabulous, but our experience was not fabulous, because of the unintentional and the inattentiveness of both her and management walking by many times and ignoring us. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere. Warm, stylish, and genuinely inviting. Which is good, because the espresso machine has been broken for SIX MONTHS and the food tastes like it's still waiting to be introduced to seasoning. For a spot charging $20 a plate and selling "luxury brunch vibes," you'd think they could manage a functional espresso machine or flavorful food. At this point, the machine feels more like decor than equipment. Come for the ambiance... just don't come hungry or expecting coffee. read more

Great place for brunch! Lots of outdoor seating as well as inside. Our party of 14 sat outside out front by the street. It was nice weather and staff provided us with umbrellas for some shade from the sun. Service was patient with our large group and they stored our birthday cake for us in the fridge until it was ready to be served. Music was a nice touch to the brunch vibes. I ordered myself the basic with a cafe latte (art on the latte was cute). My daughter had the chicken strips with fries. She is allergic to egg. Was happy to hear that the chicken strips did not have any egg on their batter. Menu has a selection of various dishes, whether you want sweet or savory and the drinks came out presentable and pretty. Would come here again for a brunch bite! Make sure to have a reservation though! Here's some notes on the things we tried: Waffles churro sticks - super crispy and flavorful! It came with berries and a berry sauce which was unexpectedly spicy (but added such a great depth of flavor!) White bean shakshuka - I love shakshukas and this one did not disappoint! Came here for their Wednesday dog dinner date. It was such a cute date night idea. Shoutout to them for the creativity. Parking is always tough in that area but not impossible to find. You'll almost always find yourself walking about five minutes to the place. You're more likely to find neighborhood parking than right in front of the restaurant. You enter through the side door and head down a hallway to get to the front desk. There's three separate places to sit - in the very back, in the front of the house which also has the bar there, and then outside in the front patio. We sat outside in the front patio (which is basically an area in the front of the business next to the sidewalk) with the dogs. There's a few things that would get a high rating in my opinion. The biggest being that espresso martini. I had the Ibarra and my gawd. It was delish. I wanted to lick the martini glass clean. Everyone should get that. I'd give that a five star. I also thought the pork chops was divine. I'd give the pork chops a four star. The wait staff was really fun too and nice. I'd give them 4 stars. The other half of my meal was 3 stars. The Mr Nice Guy drink was okay. Not terrific as I was hoping. Solid touch with the CBD oil. I think it came across a bit bland. The Pistachio Pesto Pasta was a 2 star plate. I added shrimp for an additional 6 dollars and only 4 came in the plate which was a bit disappointing. But in general, the hint of pistachio was lovely but the pesto was underwhelming. We also got a dog bowl for my dog. It was a lot of options for him. You pick up to 3 bases, one protein, and three doggie cookies. All for 15 dollars. If you want, you can add a mocktail for them for an additional 9 dollars. Our dog licked the bowl clean. He seemed happy (but what dog isn't when you give them food?!). All in all, because the other half of the meal was mediocre, i'll have to give it 3 stars despite how great the other half of the meal was. This is a spot to impress your date. Madison is an open air restaurant which was romantic and warmly lit. They have live bands playing which really set that romantic ambience. I got their Ravioli with a spinach and ricotta filling. Their bread was perfectly toasted and crispy. The rose sauce on the ravioli was the best I've ever had I soaked it all up with thr bread. The portion however was a bit small so I wish they had more raviolis! Their drinks are Instagram worthy and strong. Our whole table got the queen of crowns which comes with a tarot card reading which is a great way to start some conversation at the table. read more

We came here from an early dinner at around 6 and had no problems getting seated. I would account for time to find parking because it'll take you awhile to find a spot if you're not lucky! Our outside seats were your typical tables and chairs. But when I went to the restroom and to back of the building I saw that this place had a nice barn style area with beautiful wood deck flooring and high arching ceilings. It caught me by surprised how lovey the inside looked. I can imagine a romantic ambiance here at night. As for the food I wasn't super impressed. I got the shrimp pasta from the specials and didn't find a lot of strong flavors while eating it. Though, my boyfriend loved the chicken parm and pasta. I'd recommend getting that if you are in between choices. I tried all four espresso martinis and loved the Tiramisu and Oreo the best!
