This is a friendly atmosphere restaurant, the owner is a really cool guy, and the two young blond bartenders with elaborate tatoos on their arms are really hot. This is a great place to drink beer while watching sports. The local crowd is mostly hill billies and blue collar grey-haired down to earth dudes. Anybody who does not look like this is probably a guest from one of the nearby hotels. It was packed around the bar today, not a single stool available. I ordered a martini and it was okay, not too great. I also ordered an appetizer recommended by the cute little waitress: tuna in sesame with wasabee, and it was okay, although cold ( I had to wait for it a little longer than normal, so it probably just sat on the counter for a while). We're a tight knit group from up and down the east coast and we gather yearly for a one week cello camp in Philadelphia. It's total immersion in everything cello. We don't want the week to end, so we decided to meet in Newark on the way home for some Mac and cheese. Wow was it a great experience. We arrived at 11:30 and the "bar" side was open for business. As our group made our way in with our cello cases I tow (can't leave our babies in a hot car), we were seated in a corner of the room. Our wait was super...very knowledgable about the offerings and interested in us having the full experience. The mac and cheese dishes we selected were all very good...creamy cheese sauce and perfectly cooked macaroni. We ordered 7 different varieties and used little plates to share. I liked lobster and brat the best, but buffalo chicken, smokehouse and spinach were close behind. The place looks like a great sports bar and a good hang out joint for university of Delaware students. We will definitely include a stop at mad macs on our itinerary next year!! read more

Came here with some family the other night. There were 6 of us, and sadly there was a giant group next to us. Probably 15ish. THEY ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME AS US, so you know what that means. Honestly, half of us are/have been in the service industry. We know how it is. We didn't care at first that our food would take awhile. Except our appetizer took an hour to come out. The manager came out though and apologized like crazy and even said there was no reason we should have to wait an hour for an app. She gave us some fancy fries and took our initial app off of our check and was super nice about it. We really did appreciate that cause we hadn't said anything but we were getting annoyed. So A+ for that. The mac and cheese was good. Super cheesy which is always a plus. Nothing amazing. From the very door the hostess was very accommodating she helped me to a booth that had a near by outlet. This was perfect, after spending the whole day at a beach without electricity. I was very delighted with the incredibly friendly service that I received from the server that I had on my visit. She was quick and attentive. The food was beautifully displayed and even more delicious then imagined. My only disappointment was with one of the hostess that had on an extremely short and revealing dress and this was very displeasing seeing as there were children in the restaurant. read more

Hands down, this place has THE best wings in the area. But I really want to commend them for their superb customer service. I order some wings and mad Mac bites for takeout. When I got home, I realize my wing order was wrong. I gave them a call and they were so apologetic. Without prompting, they asked for my address so they could deliver the correct food immediately. They arrived pretty quickly! When I opened the door, the delivery man was super apologetic and wouldn't accept a tip. He said it was "his pleasure" and left. I've had orders messed up before but I've never had a restaurant respond as well as this one! The food here is ok. A lot of the dishes are described/named wrong. The "Lobster Mac" doesn't contain lobster. It has a crawfish like meat that the "chef" called "Langoustine lobster." I call B.S.! I'm from Boston but I've been to Mad Mac's twice, the first time randomly and this past Monday afternoon with my best friend. Ordered from there last night and the food was terrible and over priced. I have been wanting to try Mad-Macs for some time now so I was pretty stoked about our choice for dinner. We ordered the Buffalo Mac, Lobster Mac, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and Deep Fried Brownies. The ONLY reason I gave 2 stars was because the brownie bites were very good. Other than that it would have been a 1 star from me. The Lobster Mac was 17 or 18 dollars!!! I forget, but for that price you would think there was any lobster in it. Wrong! It had a seafood flavor to it but could barely find anything that resembled lobster meat. It was just noodles, cheese and the essence of the ocean. Believe me I was looking for the lobster. It was not there. So disappointing. The Buffalo Mac had this odd sweet taste to it. Now It did have pieces of shredded chicken but absolutely no buffalo flavor and no spice. That went directly into the garbage. There was something not right about it. The fact that it was sweet just turned me off. I have no idea what they did to it. My daughter got the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich which actually had buffalo sauce covering it, which was fine, but why was it missing from the mac and cheese??? That sauce would have made it better.. However, The chicken was an overly fried, flat piece of frozen dried out chicken. So underwhelming. Had my experience with this restaurant that I've been waiting so long to try and it's a big NO for me. If you want some overpriced bullshit nasty food then this is your place but I won't be back. read more

This restaurant used to be up there with my favorites but my last experience changed that it's truly a shame. I placed an order online, which I do frequently and have never had a problem. I waited OVER TWO HOURS for my food to arrive. When I called the restaurant the man who answered told me that "it's rush hour and you're far away. What do you want me to do?", mind you it's 7:00 and I live 4 miles from the restaurant... Like I stated before, my location has never been a problem during the many times I have ordered from this place previously. I've been coming to Mad-Macs for years and have always had great food and good service. I am very sad to report that has changed. Everyone and every restaurant has a bad or off day. I thought the last time I was there it was just that but tonight I had the worse food and service ever in my life. The burger had an off and sour tasted like old bad meat and my dad ordered the Mad MAC Mac and cheese one of his favorites;it tasted like bad cardboard and burnt bacon. This was all after waiting 15-20 mins from time seated to even getting a server to take a drink order of a water and Diet Pepsi. I would understand the delay in service but the dinning room only had two other families in it and the bar seemed light also for a Friday evening. When asked for the manger she showed up with an attitude after I asked if they had a new cook because I was surprised how the food quality dropped over the past few weeks. She dismissed it and said the food was fine they were swamped!! I said okay sorry to hear that but both times there the place was pretty empty. I asked for the check and after another long wait I had another server just throw my check at me while in passing. Before leaving I heard someone else complaining how there beer tasted off and the wrong food came out. The happy hour is amazing, the management is great, the food was good, and the service was just okay. My friends and I went on a saturday at 5:45, it was busy but not fully packed. We ordered appetizers, the salad was incorrect. We notified the waiter, who was all over the place & did not write down our order. He said he will bring us a new one, but before it could come, our meals came. The lobster mac and cheese was good, but not worth $13. The salad came out last, confusing. At the end, we wanted to split the check. Somehow, I winded up with majority of the bill, he was supposed to fix it, went missing for 5-10 minutes, then WE had to ask to PAY and for him to fix the mistakes. He did not fix the mistake , so we were charged for 2 salads. I asked for a manager, whom was extremely helpful. Recently ordered from here one night via Seamless when I was in Newark on a work trip. I had the Cajun Shrimp and Crab Mac, and it was amazing. Definitely one of the best mac and cheeses I've ever had. Given that I ordered the full, the portion was huge, which was a plus as it kept me full and focused as I was trying to wrap things up at work. Totally hit the spot. After our group of 5 was seated, we waited more than 20 minutes for a server to come to our table. Eventually, we flagged down a server, who said she would check who our server was. After 5 minutes, we were still waiting. While this was happening, the restaurant was mostly empty, the table next to us had gotten drinks and placed their orders, and several servers were sitting at a nearby table wrapping silverware. So here's a problem: What the menu promises and what you get can be quite different. I ordered the eight-ounce burger topped with corned beef. (Sorry, I was experimenting.) What arrived was closer to a four-ounce burger. Very salty, with almost no burger flavor. It was supposed to come with onion rings, but I got french fries. The waitress argued with me when I brought this up, but she relented, and did bring out some onion rings. The fries and onion rings were quite good. Service was slow and not very ept. My artisanal beer didn't have much flavor. Prices aren't provided for beverages. I asked, and was told one thing, but another price showed up on the bill. (It was lower, so I didn't complain.) I'm amused by the other reviewer whose wife said this place could be on Restaurant: Impossible. I think that's a good observation, though I suspect the owners were more hoping for Drive-ins, Diners and Dives given the cutesy menu. read more

My hubby and I went there for lunch one afternoon.We ordered the mad mac bites and loaded potato balls to start .The waitress had come to us to let us know that the balls would take a little longer as they had a large catering order to complete but apologized and offered to bring us some crab fires while we wait on them , which we appreciated. Well after 7 years of being bugged to try this amazing looking mac and cheese restaurant tonight I finally gave in. Went tonight for a bit of a celebration dinner with my husbands and son. We made it at happy hour so cheese steak spring rolls and Mac and cheese balls it was... they were pretty solid ... I ordered the mad Mac and my hubby ordered the Cajun Mac ... all I'm saying is blah... I had diabetes in a bowl with a few bacon pieces ... and the side salad i had was wilted and watery .. it had scene better days. The Cajun Mac and cheese on the other hand my hubby loved ... and the kid ... well he had a burger and complained then got chicken fingers and complained but that's normal for him. Would I come back hear ... yeah but not for dinner ... possibly lunch and I'm going to read the menu better and stick with a safe option. We came in here for a late dinner since we had a buy one get one free coupon. We were the only ones in the dining room. It seems like most people are regulars and hang out in the bar area. It was a Wed night so all the balls and bites were half off. We started with provolone balls which were good and the dipping sauce also good. We shared the giant burger in between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon, beer onions, lettuce tomato and pickles. It was cooked perfectly at medium rare. The fries were nice and fresh and crispy. We also shared the bratwurst mac and cheese which was outstanding. Had a beer and a soda and our bill was 25.00 before the tip. By far the best spot in Newark!!! Sometimes food can take a little while to come out but it is completely worth the wait. Mango patron margarita is really sour and I love it. Lime chicken nachos are delicious and enough to feed a small village. My husband loves the wings and burgers. I am not a fan of mac and cheese but the Cajun shrimp mac is yummy and I can get 2-3 meals out of it. Blue balls are also a favorite. I haven't had a meal I didn't love in the past 4 years we have been coming here. My one complaint is ... where the hell are the jalapeño crab balls at??? Late night is fun.
