My friends and I went there for lunch today. We all ordered the lunch's special which was a great deal. Comes with a dip and puffy bread (first time eating it) a salad, entree and drink. Two of us ordered iced tea which the waiter never came with. At the end of the meal we told him and ordered 4 coffees instead. Then we were sitting and chatting and he asked if we wanted another coffee. Three of us out of 4 ordered another one. It wasn't until afterwards that we realized they charged us for the second cups of coffee. I thought that was very tacky. Considering that he forgot the iced teas, the least they could have done was give us a complimentary cup of coffee. I also wasn't crazy about my chopped chicken entree. Nothing special. read more

After half a dozen tries since they opened -- I'm convinced that Mado serves up the best and most consistent Turkish food in the area. Sara is the ubiquitous hostess with the mostest -- always pleasantly chatty and she doubles as server and busses tables too. High energy and fun. Whatever wrinkles I noted in my earlier review have been ironed out in the kitchen and the overall experience is now a solid 5 stars. Anything with lamb is always perfectly executed here, whether shank, chops or Adana kebob. Never dry and always seasoned authentically. The braised shank is fall off the bone tender and remains my fave. Their bronzino is grilled simply and served whole -- the fish is splendidly fresh and while I don't care for picking through bones -- it eats great. If you like eggplant -- get the chefs special warm eggplant swirled in cacik and thank me later. Mado will serve you plenty of crispy -- house baked pide to mop. And of course the basic lahmacun and the various loaded versions of Pide on the menu are a meal in themselves. Not every Turkish joint offers this "Turkish Pizza" but Mado has certainly perfected theirs. Great room and BYO are a plus -- as is the ample parking. Great for a crowd. I came here with a large party after a wedding and I was pleasantly surprised. I've had some really good Turkish/Armenian food overseas and it just doesn't compare to anything I've had here...until I came here! I love this food! The kebabs were juicy & flavorful, the bread was super fresh & delicious, the desserts were wonderful, and the servers managed to keep up with 20 of us somehow. My only issue was that the bread came out separate from the entrees so we were hungry and ate that before the rest came. The cheese rolls stole my heart though. They were so flaky, crispy, and delicious. We also had the shepherd salad, zucchini crisps, a combo platter of Adana, chicken, beef, & lamb gyro kebabs with rice, kunefe, and baklava. Went twice recently and the food is just great! Very comfortable atmosphere and you feel like family when you dine there. The first time we went we mentioned to the manager that it was our first time there and we told him how much we enjoyed everything. He brought us out a free dessert- OMG DELICIOUS!! All the food was very fresh, delicious, nicely presented and very flavorful. Will go back anytime!! Only one negative comment was that with a few dishes they serve a little cold red cabbage salad which enhances the color of the plate but tastes a little weak. A better tasting side would be better. Went today for a party. The food was very good. We had apps - hummus, babaganoush, eggplant in tomato sauce & fried calamari. The calamari was super tender and tasty, the humus as well. Came weeknight with some coworkers and had a great time around delicious food. I have eaten in a lot of Mediterranean restaurants and have often been turned off due to the high prices and the stingy portions. With Mado, that is not the case! The prices are reasonable and the portions were plenty. I enjoyed the other half of my dinner for lunch the next day. Not to mention, BYOB! Visited 10/25/2019 with 3 other couples. We love Mediterranean food, in this case Turkish. We've got our favorite and while this one doesn't get to the top, everything was very, very good. Most Mediterranean restaurants serve pita bread with the meals and some of them are really good, but our favorite bread is Pide bread. Mado has their own version of Pide that is pretty wonderful and not all that filling. Kind of like a puffed pastry that goes with everything. Between the eight of us, we had Lebne, Hummus, lamb chops, a couple of mixed grills and Shepard salad. Everything was very good and worthy of another visit sometime in the future. Came in on a cold, pre-storm Monday night and it was pretty empty. They warmed us up with fresh baked pide and were very generous with the loaves given to us. Service was impeccable from start to finish! Babaganoush was tasty and paired well with the pide. Lamacun was not the best I've had. Have to still give it to D'yaneri in Cliffside for that one. Shish platters came with lots of rice and meats cooked to order. The interior is beautiful and the light fixtures gave a nice vibe. Will definitely add it to our Mediterranean list. Delicious lunch special for a great price - $13 ! Nice atmosphere, clean and fresh with plenty of seating. There were only a few other tables for a weekday lunch, and made the vibes peaceful and serene. The waitress was attentive and extremely nice - genuinely nice too, not like she was strained to be so. I had the special #1 - Shepard's salad (cucumber, tomato and onions with dressing) the eggplant salad and fresh pita that was still warm from the oven. All were great. I also tried the eggplant salad with tomato- tasted just like caponata, which I love, and will definitely get next time. For the main I had salmon, served with rice and a jalapeño pepper (the waitress immediately informed me steer clear of the pepper if I don't like spicy, which I found endearing. I took her advice.) Had a really delightful and tasty experience here with the family! We came here a bit on a whim, because our other favorite Turkish place closed. The food was great, particularly the Beyti meat dish that I got, which was folded into a wrap and set in a yogurt sauce! I haven't had meat eaten this way, and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the smoked eggplant appetizer. I wish they had a full-sized portion of this, because I would gladly eat this dish as an entree. The others enjoyed their meat combination platters. I didn't try them, but the only complaint they had (if they were to nitpick) was the grain of rice served with the meat. It was a bit too round/full from what we're used to, but perhaps this is how it is locally served. Overall a great dining experience. We'll definitely be back for seconds! read more

Sometimes it just guts you to give a restaurant a lower star rating because because a restaurant could have been great but then some poor management results in undesirable consequences. That is the case with Mado. The biggest factor to the poor review is the portion size. There is hardly a Turkish restaurant I can think of that isn't going to give even hardly eaters a challenge to finish their plate. However Mado charges the same price or more but, instead of leaving overfull, they leave you hungry. As an example, we ordered large take out orders from them on multiple occasions for 10-30 people. Firstly they make you order individual dishes rather than from a true catering menu so the price is quite expensive. But beyond that there is no possibility they are giving you the right amount of food. When we ordered for 30 people we had about 20 people actually eating and some people didn't get any food and even those who did were left hungry. They told us they would throw in dessert so we took them on their word and didn't purchase more dessert. What they gave us was hardly enough for 1/5 our order size. They were almost better off not telling us anything. These portion sizes and how they handle large orders is unacceptable for a restaurant and embarrassing for us as hosts. That being said their food is probably the best Turkish in the area (Bergen AND Passaic counties). Nothing in Bergen County or even Paterson can touch it. But Samdam in Cresskill is a very close second in flavor and their portion sizes are generous and even more so when you get catering from them. Based on the portion sizes, lack of catering menus, and just purely feeling cheated I cannot offer this place a better view despite their food quality. read more

If you are looking for a middle eastern restaurant who will not rush you out the door, this is a great option, and it's BYOB. Portions are HUGE and the food is fresh. Fresh baked pita bread is served which is to die for and it's free! My favorites on the menu are the shepherds salad, try the Armenian lamajoun pizza, and the cheese Boreg. Some great spreads too. Tonight we had the grilled branzino and chicken with yogurt (one of my favorites.). Service is on the slow side so plan to spend some time there. Holy crap do they know how to cook proteins!!! We were blown away by the culinary expertise at tonight's dinner. Here's the rundown: Pide bread - yummy, could have used a dip of some sort. Complimentary though and served with butter packets, so no complaints. Lentil soup - well done but not a stand-out. We'd probably skip it next time. Zucchini crisp - absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked and paired with a light yogurt dip, and was an enormous portion. Grilled combos - ours included chicken shish (unbelievably perfect), gyro (the best ever), and lamb (melt-in-your-mouth awesomeness). They were paired with simply luscious rice and a smattering of veggies, with the same yogurt dip that came with the appetizer. We have been talking, and everything was so expertly prepared that we cannot quite pick out our favorite of the meats. Lovely restaurant (parking in rear), and good (although slightly awkward), friendly service. Dinner for 2 with tip was about $70 and worth much more. Mado is great for take out and dine in. It's a beautiful restaurant and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have fresh food and great service. Today I picked up lunch to go for a reunion of sorts with Sunday School friends. I ordered shish kebob both lamb and chicken for the main meals, appetizers were stuffed cheese roll (bouregs) and stuffed grape leaves plus a large shepard salad. The food was fantastic - everything was delicious and they included excellent bread. Not the usual cheap pita bread - this was much more substantial. I've been back to Mado since my initial visit and every experience has been outstanding. Both food and service is always great. If you want authentic, delicious Armenian/Turkish style food, this is the place to go to. It's also BYOB so I can bring my favorite wine with me to share. There's a reviewer who mentioned this place doesn't have atmosphere. I don't get it. I am Armenian - I know what the food is supposed to be like. This is the real deal. Atmosphere for me is being with my friends and it's best when everyone is happy together enjoying a good meal. Mado is that and it doesn't get any better. read more
