Pricey and disappointing. We have been in Chelmsford for 4 years but had been to Madras grill only once before and did not like the food much. So we decided to give it another shot to see if the food has improved. But we were badly disappointed. We had gone for the weekend lunch buffet which is at $16.99 a bit more than the usual Indian buffet places but the food options were way less comparatively. Hardly any non veg appetizers they had one - mackerel fish fry and the whole Buffet area was smelling of fish. Chicken dishes did not taste fresh. Goat biryani was the only thing that was good. Paneer was very chewy and rubbery. Most of the dishes were not warm enough and did not look appetizing too. The warm desserts carrot halwa and kesari were placed on ice in the buffet. And no dosas in the buffet too. Total rip off.Never going back again. Paradise biryani pointe and priya Indian cuisine score way better than this and are pocket friendly too read more

Never again. After our 5th visit to Madras Grill, we are officially never returning. We eat Indian food weekly, and our bill came to almost $40 more than expected for basic Indian dishes. The food was fine on this particular night, but prices have crept up to the point where 'fine' becomes not enough to warrant dining here. The last straw was extremely overpriced wine and beer. The service was particularly lackluster this evening and the Karaoke setup with rotating disco lighting was a huge turnoff for us. read more

The ambiance/decor was warm & welcoming (they have a bar as well). For appetizers, we ordered Chicken 65 & entrees were peshwari lamb chops & gongura chicken. Tamarind mojito and mango martini topped out this combination. Their service was good, but we had to wait a little longer than usual to get our orders served. The food was really good! We both were more than happy! I knew Andhra food is generally spicy, so we asked them to serve us medium spicy, still the food was really HOT! But we liked it! The mango martini was good , but somehow I did not like the tamarind mojito (I am a big fan of mojito though!). We wanted to try the dessert as well, so ended up ordering rasmalai and pista kulfi. I came here to order to go and I was pleasantly greeted by the staff. I ordered the Saag Paneer (spinach w/ paneer cheese). It was delicious and came w/ a side of rice. I ordered some Naan bread to go with it. The only negative is that they charged me $4 for 2 slices of bread but overall I was pleased. We went on a Friday night with a $35 Groupon. The atmosphere was very nice. The service was excellent. It was busy, but not crowded. It was during Diwali (the Hindu festival of Lights). Many patrons were Indian- always a good sign! We ordered Vegetable Chilli Fry for our appetizer- it was spicy & VERY good. We ordered our dinners medium. I had KASHMIRI DHANIWAL KHORMA which was too mild & a little bland, but ok. My partner said her COCHIN AVIAL, was very good, but had some tough vegetables (similar to the fiber-like stems of asparagus). The PESHAWARI NAAN was fabulous. We ordered it without butter and it arrived without butter- Yay! (I've ordered naan with no butter many times in other restaurants and I get it without butter about half the time.) For dessert we split RICE KHEER & Chai tea - which were both very good. I really liked the atmosphere. (Most Indian restaurants don't invest in atmosphere and it makes everything seem cheap.) Madras Grill has very nice furnishings and an attractive bar which creates a good dining experience! We will definitely be back! read more

I just happened to be in Chelmsford felt like having lunch somewhere different as I was driving around looking for a place I noticed the Madras Grill.. I said to myself "perfect, I'll try it." I've always considered myself to be an authority on Indian cuisine and this place was the best I've ever had. I can't wait to go back again. I think I would enjoy it better if I didn't eat by myself, fortunately there were plenty of people in the restaurant at the time. It was a humbling experience right from the beginning with there super friendly and accommodating staff. I was seated at the bar comfortably and within two minutes upon my arrival I was eating off the lunch buffet seconds later...of course I had to try everything...twice.. When I returned back to my seat with my first plate they surprised me with a fairly large paper thin crispy lentil crepe filled with this chucky mashed curry potato (boy that was awesome). Wow! I had one of the most delightful dining experiences last night when a I went to Madras Grill with a friend of mine for dinner. I was warmly greeted by the staff. The menu options are quite large with choices of north indian, south indian and indo chinese options which I loved. I ordered Chicken 65 as an appetizer requesting that it be made spicy. Soon after, the manager walked up to me making a suggestion to have it made Hydrabadi style based on the nature of my order. I told him to go ahead and the dish turned out to be super delicious. The quantity was sumptuous and the food was so tasty and fresh. The portions are huge and would have been easily been good for two people. The staff is extremely courteous and very welcoming of its guests. I later had a Podi Idli which was equally tasty. We were pleasantly surprised with some free appetizer samplers and desserts which were extremely tasty as well and we left the place feeling so full and totally satisfied with the experience. My friend ordered a fish appetizer and a Masala Dosa which were also equally tasty . The place exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has a liking for Indian food. Would definitely visit again soon. I would use a GPS to get there since it seems a bit hidden from the main roads. Plenty of parking available which is a bonus. The restaurant is on the street level which makes it easier to access especially for the elderly and disabled. read more

We went there for the exotic menu, ended up eating both from the buffet and the menu (being greedy and all that) and were not disappointed on both counts. The weekend buffet is not extensive but whatever is served is good quality. I found, to my relief, that the vadas were fresh (most indian restaurants make vadas with batter made in the prehistoric ages) and the chutneys were good too. The mocha kotta sambhar was a class act as was the kootu - very authentic. The meat dishes were delicious and the meat itself was tender. On weekends they serve appam-paya and a couple of other exotic dishes. I tried the appam and loved it. Only negative feedback I can think of with respect to the food was that the potato bhaji had a bit too much turmeric. Another gripe - any self-respecting chettinad restaurant should be serving panniyarams in my opinion. As for the service, that aspect can do with some improvement. The dishes were not replenished fast enough and the buffet kept running out of plates because there was no one to come pick up dirty dishes from the tables to cycle it back. I realize that they are barely a month old and these are minor irritants to put up with for the superior food quality they dish out. The staff come mostly from the erstwhile Ajanta hotel in Cambridge we were told, so they should not take that long to get their act together, service wise. Oh, and did I mention that the gulab jamuns could put your grandmother to shame? read more

After hearing a few friends rave about madras Grill in chelmsford,MA i decided to try out this place. Food was good, no complaints but, it is one of the dirtiest restaurant i have been too. The Floor was full of food crumbs and sticky . I understand that sometimes when children eat they can make quite a mess but, a well run establishment would have taken care of it asap ! Also the buffet area was cluttered and messy. If the sitting area is so dirty then i can imagine how the kitchen would be ! read more

Its a pathetic restaurant I ever visited in my life. They do not know what is 'Malai kofta' and veg biryani. The curry was greasy and like a soup with tiny koftas of weird shape with terrible taste. The veg biryani (it is cheating to name it as Hyderabad biryani) was like an ordinary pulao and served with a very sour raita. we almost felt that they prepared from a ready to eat meal packet or frozen food. Madras Grill is a refreshing alternative to an otherwise monotonous climate of Indian cuisine in Massachusetts. My husband and I tried their weekend buffet thrice and were blown over by their variety and quality every single time. Being used to the sight of naan's, gobi 65's and a couple of aloo and paneer dishes in every Indian buffet we go to, Madras Grill's spread of ada pradhaman, avial, green apple pachdi and tirunelveli halwa was a welcome spectacle to our mind and taste buds. There are equally good alternatives for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, and for adults and kids. Our last trip there was with a party of 11, ages ranging from 10 to 50 and all of us came back full and delighted! It is an hour's worth of drive from my place, but totally worth it !! read more

What a great lunch. I particularly liked the chili vegetables, and had the lunch buffet during a lunch meeting with my business partner. The location on Summer Street in Chelmsford is just a bit off the beaten path, but this place is wonderful. I came with my boyfriend, mother and sister for my mother's 57th birthday. Not only did the service exceed expectations, but the food was delectable. We shared dishes such as the lamb kebab appetizer, chicken tikka masala, and a dahi aloo. Everything tasted wonderful, creamy and spicy. We asked for medium heat and they did it JUST right ( I typically like hot but this was just enough!). We had two personable, attentive, knowledgeable servers oversee our entire evening until dessert. I'm a mango lassi fanatic and I finished off my meal with one while the others enjoyed the mango and pistachio kulfi - all FRESH and delicious.
