Weird weird weird! Do not go here. I'm from out of town and I walked here and didn't see the door open so before I left I decided to call, I wanted to try this place out. The lady who answered the phone answered "who's this" and continued to question "who's this" without answering any questions about if they're open or if this was the restaurants number. When I finally got the courage to give her the same energy and answered "a customer trying to eat at your establishment" she then very RUDE and matter of factly (as if I should know when they're yelp says otherwise) answers "no we're not, okay?!" We've lived across the street for several months now and finally made our way over to Madruga's for lunch. One thing to know is they don't have menus - but not to worry! Tell Aida (the owner) what you're craving and she'll cook it up just for you. Our dishes were so good and hearty that I was full for the rest of the day. I'm usually not a fan of plantains but WOW these were perfection. We got to chat with Aida and her husband Alberto and they are the sweetest. A few weeks ago, my sister was craving Cuban food and I found this place that's on my way home. The owners were super nice and friendly, very polite and helpful. I'm a fan of mom and pops shops because typically you'll find a grandmother or an aunt or a Hispanic mother cooking in the kitchen. This is what I found at Madrugas. I ordered the grilled chicken with rice and beans and tostones. The beans were filled with flavor and so was the chicken. The tostones were also perfectly crispy around the edges and delicious in the middle. Will be coming back, and to top it off, a cafesito was the perfect ending to this awesome lunch. read more

Found this gem after leaving MIA for a drive to the Keys. It lived up to its 5 stars. If you're looking for fancy this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for real home cooked food you won't be disappointed. It was as if we were guests at Alberto and Aida's home. Great conversation and great food. Aida's Vaca Frita didn't disappoint. Visiting from California family of four. First time eating Cuban food. First and foremost the owners were extremely sweet and hospitable. Food was excellent we had their Cuban sandwiches both lunch and breakfast styles. My apologies for not remembering the names of the order. I see why this clean little Mom & Pop (the only two workers) place gets solid 5 stars. It's like being in a personal home. Aida greeted me and responded to my request for a menu with "What would you like? Breakfast?" She then proceeded to offer custom anything . We decided on an omelette, with numerous clarifications as to just how I wanted it. It came out perfectly! I requested a large Cuban coffee- no cream or sugar, again just what I needed. We talked about her family- justifiably proud mom, and finally somehow ended up on hot peppers. Someone had given her some Habaneros that she had pickled. They were a great addition. Family owned and operated, the staff is amazing the lady that took care of me definitely knows how to run a business, she was extremely caring and patient and packed my to go order to perfection.
