This is a smaller brewery that's a bit off the beaten path. However, the drinks are solid, the atmosphere is unique, and the service is usually really good. They are kid and dog friendly and even have a little patio outside for the warmer days. They offer non-alcoholic drinks including a cream soda and other juices and sparkling waters, and also have free pretzels and other snacks for purchase that are pretty tasty. There are also a few good restaurants just over 405 where you can grab food to go and bring it to Maelstrom, which I do often (Schwarmaniac and Aceituno's are my two favorites). Two other cool things are the two retro video game consoles that come with games like Pacman and Ms. Pacman. Also, their merchandise has an octopus on it which looks a lot like a Kraken (in all fairness Maelstrom was first with this logo), so it fits very nicely with the area. The merch is actually really good looking. Some beers even come in fancy glasses such as a pineapple hazy IPA that they sold over the summer (pictured here).

One of my favorite lesser-known Kirkland spots! I am able to walk here from the Forbes Creek apartments and love stopping by. The staff are fabulous, I always have great interactions and conversations with them. Also, as a gluten free gal, it's awesome to have so many choices here! They have wine, seltzer, and cider-all at very reasonable prices from local spots. The outdoor area is large and fun-perfect for a socially distanced catch up with friends. They are also VERY dog friendly-my dog Olive loves chilling here! If you want to grab a drink and try a fun new spot, you'll love it here!

The flight glass holders are neat!

I found this place looking for breweries / taprooms on Yelp. I stopped in here with my brother tooling around one Sunday afternoon. It's down a road in a warehouse district that i wouldn't have gone down had I not been looking for it. The place looks really small from the outside. Once we got inside, the layout and seating were very accommodating and inviting. The theme and decoration of the place are super neat. The sampler holders were hand-made and thematically appropriate and super-neat. The growlers they had were printed and in a shape I hadn't seen before. We got several samplers in an effort to sample the range of beers (They have a lot on tap!) and we were well pleased at the quality and range of the beers and the root beer. My favorite was the Nitro Stout. The raspberry smash was well worth trying as well.

This is now my "local" as it's the closest brewery to my house. We've had fun visiting and sampling their beers, and sharing our new discovery with friends. I'm a fan of the Anodyne IPA and they always have special beers on tap, as well as cider and even root beer. On hotter days I've enjoyed the Belgian Wit, and a Kolsch is nice for a lighter style as well. With days getting shorter and cooler I'll probably start shifting to the darker styles like Porters and Stouts. They have lots of seating, indoors and out, friendly staff, and you're likely to bump into the owners when you visit. Ask about their beers, chat and stay a while. There is no food service, but they have some pretzels and light snacks. Call up a local restaurant to deliver your dinner to Maelstrom while you kick back with your beer. We like to work up a thirst by putting in a few miles on the nearby cross Kirkland trail, and then stop at Maelstrom on the way home. It's small, but getting a following. Come by and check it out.

Welcome to the neighborhood! This newly opened brewery is located right across the street from Gold's Gym in Kirkland in a very industrial area. Parking is limited in the lot itself (only 6 spots), but street parking is plentiful, as this is a pretty dead street. There's no unique food to this brewery, but they do sell pre-packaged items like chips for $1.50. You're welcome to bring your own food or get it delivered. The space itself isn't very big, but there's a nice outdoor seating area on a sunny day. Inside, there's a little game table and lots of tables that welcome families, couples, friends, anyone. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I tried the flight and liked most of the beer. Thank goodness for the friendly staff that know their beer well.

Maelstrom Brewing is an excellent brewery that opened up in Kirkland recently. We live in the south part of Seattle metro and Kirkland is up in the north eastern part of the metro area. The drive wasn't the best to get here on the weekend we chose to go but it proved to be a rewarding trip from down south. The taproom at Maelstrom is very charming and the staff are very polite and sociable. They don't have a big parking lot of their own so if it's busy you will need to use nearby street parking, otherwise when it's slow you can very close to their front door without hardly any walking at all. At Maelstrom Steve and I got two of their beers, both which were very delightful. I got their Imperial IPA Elixir of Reduced Dexterity which has more grains and hops that your usual IPA. There is a wonderful caramel malt base double hops. Flavors in this beer are grapefruit, pine and tropical fruit. Steven got the Blonde "Icarus" which is a golden ale brewed 2-row malt to give a dry and refreshing feel. Hops in this beer are Germn Mandarina Bavria hops and Citra hops... delicious! The logos here are pretty cool too and I scored a pretty snazzy t-shirt for my swag fix.

Who knew that Kirkland was actually finally getting their own slew of brewpubs! Just on a lark I stumbled upon Maelstrom Brewing while searching for other local brew pubs. Located in the warehouse district near golds gym, not too far from Fred Meyer's in Kirkland by the entrance to 405, you will find this super cute brewpub. I tried the beer flights sampler, and picked these four: the most amazing and my favorite, Elixir IPA which was flowery, hoppy, and fragrant, A tasty fruit juice IPA, (no actual fruit was harmed in the making of this IPA), a Rye Amber (not my favorite) and a really delicious smooth Nitro Porter. Like other local brewpubs, no actual food here except for a soft pretzel, or you can have your fill of complementary small hard pretzels, plus the slew of local menus that will deliver to your table. For you sports lovers, there is one large TV screen on the wall with "the" game. otherwise, just a large garage door, and some kind of vintage nintendo . My only complaint: please, do not allow small children and here who are wrecking my mellow Saturday afternoon experience with uncontrolled yelling and some running around. I don't know why parents think that this is OK. I would prefer that there was a "no children allowed"rule for a brewpubs and other places which cater towards adults. Babies? OK... You can hold them in your lap. But not the young kids. Looking forward to the summer when the garage door will be open in the small outside patio will call us back! Beertender was super knowledgeable, friendly, and accessible. Score!

05/21/2026 My friend and I were looking for something to do…read moreafter dinner on a Thursday night. We love trivia, so she found that Chainline does trivia on Thursdays at 7pm. Neither of us had been here before, so we didn't know it was part of a shopping plaza. The plaza was extra busy due to a local shopping event with lots of vendor booths and live music. Fortunately we were able to find parking in the parking garage. The taproom is located on the second floor overlooking the center of the plaza. The line at the counter to order beer was long but moved pretty quickly. They said they were running behind due to how busy it was, so trivia would start a little late. So we grabbed drinks and played a board game. For trivia, you enter online and submit your answers there too. The host posted his questions on the TV screens, and at the end of each round he posted all of the questions again. There were themes for 3 rounds, and the rest were general. We did not do well, but we had fun and learned some fun facts! They also served some bar food there, but we had just come from dinner so we didn't try anything. It looked good though.

I really like this spot and have been a fan of theirs for a long time. I've actually been going to…read morethis brewery since back when they were located right along the Cross Kirkland Corridor bike trail, and I've followed them to their newer, modern setup up at Kirkland Urban. The beers here are always great. For food, they have a nice setup where they serve up some good, tasty items sourced from other local companies that they heat up right there for you. It's a solid, straightforward menu that pairs perfectly with a fresh pint. The location itself is excellent, featuring massive windows that let in a ton of beautiful sunlight, alongside a really nice indoor and outdoor space. That said, I feel like the place has so much untapped potential. It's tucked up on the upper level of the plaza, which might be why it feels a bit hidden, but it often isn't as busy as other nearby spots. I really think they need to do something a bit different to draw people in and make the local community want to gather and hang out here, whether that's events or a shift in the overall vibe. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in the area! The space is beautiful, the drinks are great, and it's a wonderful local brewery that deserves a lot more feet through the door.
