Driving cross country and my gf and I don't eat at fast food restaurants anymore, so when it was time to stop for lunch, we found Bensen Arizona and nosed around. We actually found Magaly's while searching for another Yelp 4 star nearby. Clue #1: The parking lot was full. Clue #2: Authentic Mexican music playing inside. Clue #3: no burgers and fries on the Menu like so many "Mexican" places trying to be all things to all people. All homemade, big plates, reasonable prices and friendly prompt service. Who could ask for anything more? I had the Daily Special (enchilada, tamale and taco plate); braised beef was juicy and spiced just right for my taste. GF had Chipotle Chicken plate; she is a chipotle afficianado and she loved it. Added Rice and Beans are a meal in themselves! I don't give many 5 stars but Magaly's is terrific. read more

The food was good and waitress was friendly/cute. The food was definitely American Mexican food and geared towards people that pronounce the "l" in rellenó. It's hard to get 5 stars with authentic México flavors nearby. I will go back occasionally. read more

Three inches of snow last night! We were looking for a lunch stop in Benson, Az and the first two spots closed early due to weather. We passed this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Possibly the best Mexican food we've had in a very long time. Even though the restaurant was packed the service was great and food very tasty. I had the chimichanga combo which was huge and the beef flavorful, the crust crunchy and covered in cheese. The refried beans were the first ones I've had that were fresh. My hubby had the chicken enchiladas and meatball soup that was excellent! Thanks for a great meal. read more

We live near Benson and this is our favorite local restaurant. The food is good and consistent and the portions are generous. Since we eat here often the selections become a bit monotonous but overall this is a very good place to eat when you are in Benson. Now if you were going to choose between eating here or eating at one of the better Mexican restaurants in Tucson, I'd much rather to to Tucson. read more

I like what Dolores G. said about the place, so we went there. We were down in Benson for the Bluegrass festival and stayed the night and went to Magaly's. It was good, and Dolores was right about the Tortilla Soup; it was good and the salsa was good too. read more

I have been here on several occasions and every time the food has been great! The service has been great! I love the homemade salsa that is made too, even bought a huge tub of it for a low price to take with. It is usually a full house too, showing that this place is not some fly by night Mexican restaurant. The owner has come out often to make sure your food is to your liking. Coming back from a Kartchner Caverns Tour, we found this little gem of a Mexican restaurant for a late lunch. The service was terrific and the food was quite good. Chips and two types of house made salsas were free and free flowing. We ended up ordering the daily special Chimichangas which were filled with tummies green and red chili Colorado. We loved the red enchilada sauce! I agree with some other reviewers. The menu was confusing and the salsa was okay. The service was okay. I got really worried when I noticed that a nearby table that ordered just when we were seated waited a long time for their dinners. Even though we ordered 10 minutes after them, our food came about 2 minutes later than theirs. We were visiting from out of town and noticed the big crowd and had to check it out. It is definitely a favorite with locals. I strongly recommend trying the enchiladas! read more

Very Good Dependable Food, priced Commensurate with Quality. The Only Detriment is when all the Damn Snowbirds come and crowd the place. We live here 12 months out of the Year and dislike it when we have to share with these unwashed foreigners that wouldn't know good Mexican Food if it hit them in the face. We had to come to Benson for some business and had never been here before. The food was wonderful and the service was outstanding!!! I'm allergic to wheat and they were very careful. To make sure that everything was not contaminated. We will be making the trip back just to come here for dinner read more

Clean spot with good food. We had the tostadas and the meat was well seasoned and the toppings were fresh. Salsa was thin but tasty.

Having been a server myself, and in hospitality management now, I was appalled by the evident lack of concern these people had for customer relations and service. We had gotten an incorrect order; it wasn't a huge problem, but we wanted to call the manager and let her know that her staff needed to listen better when taking orders over the phone. When we called, we were told the manager was "too busy". When we called again a few minutes later, a different person answered the phone and said the manager was "gone". I pointed out that we had called not more than two minutes before. The manager appeared on the phone in record time. I mentioned to her what her staff had told me about her being "too busy" when my friend called, and she said, "Yeah, because I'm cooking". I don't know about anyone else, but I never affirm that I'm EVER too busy for a customer, even if I am. Lie if you have to and assure your client that you are never too busy to give them attention. Don't make excuses. Well, after that we were fed up and disgusted. The original problem with our order just wasn't worth the trouble of talking to these people. I confess that I expressed my frustration by telling the manager to never mind, and go back and hide in her kitchen. She said, "Thank you." read more

I really don't like to write bad reviews, but let's be honest: this place does not serve authentic Mexican food. Perhaps as a native San Diegan, I have higher standards for Mexican cuisine. Someone else noted how bland the food was - YES - this was part of the problem. They do cater primarily to elderly gringos from the area, who can't handle spice or salt and who are on restricted diets in general. My mom and I were appalled that they were serving tacos on packaged corn tortilla shells instead of fresh, though they did accommodate us and switch to fresh. So I will give them two stars for trying as well as for the meat being cooked properly. But the service was incredibly slow and were trying to get back on the road (driving across country). We actually had MUCH better tacos at Jack in the Box in Yuma! Seriously! read more

Delicious food, very good service by friendly staff. On a 4 day vacation in Kartchner Caverns State Park my husband and I ate here twice. The decor is nicely done, with colorful walls hung with colorful Mexican ceramics. Somehow it avoided looking tacky, as can be the case. We had dinner one day, lunch another. Chilaquiles had a perfectly done soft egg on top, flavorful sauce and crispy tortilla strips. Chile rellenos were very good, except the sauce tasted more Italian. Posole had a red Chile broth with great flavor, and lots of tender meat- but not enough hominy for my taste. Eggs with chorizo served with beans was simple but good. Flour tortillas on the side were chewy and delicious. Chips crunchy and flavorful, served with two spicy salsas and Pico de gallo. read more

I'm no stranger to good mexican food!! I can be a harsh critic sometimes. Me and my wife dined here this evening and had a 50/50 expierence. The atmosphere was quite alright. its one small dining room with a couple small and medium tables. I've never really liked eating somewhere where yuu can see the kitchen. It's a pet peeve of mine. It's a very plain layout, nothing too special, they great yuu with chips and salsa at the table. The salsa was mediocre at best. We ordered a 3 taco combo plate w/ beans and rice. 2 shredded beef and a chicken. The wifey had a chili relleno plate with the same. Everything was really fresh, and prepared real nice!! Tacos were pretty good. Meat was tender with good flavor for both! Nothing mind blowing. Beans and rice were good. Maybe just a little more would of been nice :) (small portions) the chili rellenos were on point to the T!! Actually a better plate than most around. It's really a 4 star review. I knocked off a star because the service wasn't too swell. Slow and we felt ignored alot. I would go back and try another dish. 2 combo plates and 2 sodas came out to $33.00 not.too pricy. Amazing service and really good mexican food! We were totally surprised at how quickly we were attended to after being seated. Beverages, chips, and salsa were in front of us immediately. After a morning hiking through Kartchner Caverns, we stopped here for lunch. Service was friendly and good. I had burritos, and the other 3 in our party had various combination plates. We shared little bites of our plates all around. The food was tasty and plentiful, and, for the price, good. If you're expecting gourmet--no.
