We were looking for some good Mexican food after Karchner Caverns and saw all the cars parked outside so thought it was a good sign. We came in right after the lunch rush so they were busy clearing tables and getting people seated. The service was was prompt and friendly. We were seated and brought the chips and salsa and the salsa was great and if you like it hot, you will be pleased. They also have a mild version. DH and I both ordered the chicken mole because the waitress said it was home made and it was amazing. DH says best ever. It's not fancy but good. The darker Salsa is exquisite- a little bite to it - but not enough to make you sweat. I did notice there seemed to be a bit more salt then I typically like but it really brought the flavor out. A busy, bustling place with average food, below average atmosphere, and average service. It's not bad. It's just not good. The soups- we tried the albondigas and the tortilla- were delivered hot to the table after a 15 minute wait. They were both overly salty. The tortilla wasn't especially flavorful, and I think it's tacky and a bit ridiculous to charge $2 and call it 'Deluxe' by adding a little cilantro and avocado to the top of the bowl. Doesn't Tortilla Soup always come topped with avocado? Never seen it as a $2 addition anywhere but Magaly's. Thechips were stale. The enchiladas were ok, but the soft taco lacked flavor and it was tiny. All in all a very average experience that we won't repeat. The only reason we went was that Mi Casa was closed by the time we got to Benson. We won't make that mistake again. read more

Not sure why this place is so busy, nor why they're so expensive. They don't have a grill at all which means no Carne Asada and no grilled chicken. There were no fajitas on the menu. A quick lunch for four was $50. And that included kids meals for $6.99 one of which was a single taco and beans and rice that looked like pig slop. read more

Drove down to Karchner Caverns. Stopped here for dinner. Super friendly staff and great food. Chips and salsa was excellent. My wife had cheese enchiladas and I had chicken tortilla soup. Wife enjoyed hers and I have to say the soup was one of the best I ever had. Big portion with lots of chicken and avocados diced up. If I stayed another night I would of come here and order it again. I also had the iced tea. I am extremely picky about it and this place does it right. Most places the tea is cloudy, bitter and old. There's a couple people who are wonderful at this restaurant, and I only went there because they were so nice, and brightened up my day. One of the employees were incredibly rude. She made a mistake on my order, no big deal, I pointed it out and they credited me and corrected it. The lady I pointed out had some vendetta against me for correcting her. I was treated poorly ever since that experience. I gave them one last chance. I went to dine in, long story short I have a service dog and the owner said my dog is not qualified as a service dog because he's an emotional support animal. This is probably the most popular Mexican restaurant in Benson. At lunchtime the parking lot is full. Same for dinner. Only open till 7pm (3pm on Mondays). Very attentive staff. I usually get the green chili burro. My only gripe is that I wish it had more windows. read more

If you love home cooked Mexican food, and you find yourself near Benson Arizona, this restaurant makes you feel like you are in grandma's kitchen (if you were lucky enough to have a grandma that could cook like this). We read online that the chili relleno was one of the things they are known for and our entire table was bummed they didn't make sure their combination plate included this delicious dish. No MASKS and crowded dining. Firstly, I love this restaurant; it is arguably the best Mexican food in Southern Arizona, and I have been coming here from Sierra Vista for years. I wish I could give Magaly's a better review. A couple years ago, I would have gone with 5 stars. Unfortunately, their food isn't the same as it used to be. We used to drive from Tucson to Benson just to go eat, but now, even when in Benson, we look for somewhere else to eat. The menu was hecka confusing. On one of the first pages is the list of drinks, and near the top are the margaritas. Underneath that was what I thought to be the flavors (after all, they were indented, and they didn't say "soda" or anything like that above it), so I asked for a rootbeer margarita. I was told that they only have plain. That's fine, but they should have listed the word "sodas" above the list of sodas, and not put it directly under "Margaritas," single-spaced, and indented. Yeah, confusing. The menu contains A TON of options to order from, and yes, the prices are very reasonable. However, when thumbing through the menu, I'd often wonder, "What is that?" "What is this made of?" or "What comes with that?" Many menu items had no descriptions of what they were made of or even the options (like meat, sauce) you could choose. Many menu items were also abbrieviated, so I wouldn't have known what they were unless I was a local (which I am not) and a regular, or part of the waitstaff. Like what I ordered, it was a combo with a taco and two enchiladas, but part of its description was "SC enchilada," which made me wonder what "SC" stood for. I didn't ask, because I really didn't care. I'll pretty much eat anything. I was also EXTREMELY disappointed that my meal did not come with rice and beans. At other Mexican restaurants I've been to, if the dish does not come with a side of beans and rice, the menu will state that. This menu did not. In fact, my boyfriend and his dad ordered from the same section I did (one Special # next to mine), and they both received rice and beans, so I also was expecting to receive beans and rice. But still, at least I still got a good amount of food, and I liked what I ordered. The other reviewers have RAVED about the salsa, and while it was good, I couldn't see what the hype was about. My bf and I both thought that the salsa was a little too spicy, and I can usually handle spicy well. The enchiladas were good. I asked if I could have mine with green sauce, and green sauce they came with, but they were also topped with what seemed to be (and taste like) nacho cheese. Interesting. Not great; not bad, but definitely interesting. As stated earlier, the menu did not do a good job describing items, so the enchiladas included in the combo were pretty much "mystery" enchiladas. After eating them, I found one to be a cheese enchilada, and the other was sour cream (hence, the "SC"). At least I got to choose the type of taco I wanted, and I chose ground beef. I must say, that was the best ground beef taco I've ever had. Our waitress was quick to getting our orders taken, and delivering our drinks, food, and the check to the table, but she didn't do much more than that. She was smiling and pleasant when she was at our table, but she never checked back with us, period (before or after the food was delivered). I would have given this place four stars had the waitress checked back with us, and five had the menu not been so confusing (which resulted in my not receiving beans and rice, which again, I was VERY disappointed about). read more

In town on business we stopped in here on a recommendation from the lady at the front desk of the hotel. For me the salsa is a good judge of what I am getting into at a Mexican place. Ohhh tasty and just the right amount of kick. The chips appeared to be made in house. I had the combo that came with the Tortilla Soup and a taco (shredded beef). The broth in the soup was quite tasty but I still found myself adding a few spoon-fulls of salsa for a kick. There were tons of tortilla chips topping this cup of broth and some cheese. No small chunks of chicken or avocado or a slice of lime like I get with other authentic tortilla soups. The taco was good the beans and rice good. My coworker had the Veggie Burro it was huge and the tortilla looked homemade. He enjoyed it as he spooned about half the salsa over the burrito. Both of us cleaned our plates. My father in law lives outside of Benson..we were visiting for the first time and wanted to take him out for dinner..he suggested this place so I yelped it and saw it had good reviews. I really don't like to write bad reviews, but let's be honest: this place does not serve authentic Mexican food. Perhaps as a native San Diegan, I have higher standards for Mexican cuisine. Someone else noted how bland the food was - YES - this was part of the problem. They do cater primarily to elderly gringos from the area, who can't handle spice or salt and who are on restricted diets in general. My mom and I were appalled that they were serving tacos on packaged corn tortilla shells instead of fresh, though they did accommodate us and switch to fresh. So I will give them two stars for trying as well as for the meat being cooked properly. But the service was incredibly slow and were trying to get back on the road (driving across country). We actually had MUCH better tacos at Jack in the Box in Yuma! Seriously! read more

Three inches of snow last night! We were looking for a lunch stop in Benson, Az and the first two spots closed early due to weather. We passed this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Possibly the best Mexican food we've had in a very long time. Even though the restaurant was packed the service was great and food very tasty. I had the chimichanga combo which was huge and the beef flavorful, the crust crunchy and covered in cheese. The refried beans were the first ones I've had that were fresh. My hubby had the chicken enchiladas and meatball soup that was excellent! Thanks for a great meal. read more

The food is pretty decent, and the portions large. The salsa is pretty good. There are a fair number of ala carte choices and combination plates that are larger and more expensive. The people are very nice. I think this is a toss up with Reb's, though. read more
