The food took an hour to come out.. there was really nobody else in the cafe but us. My Fresca was half foam. We didn't get any water til we asked for it even tho our drinks were empty. I got this asada dish that looked like it would be real good but was not tender, kind of dry. And veggies were undercooked. But I will say the tostada was perfect. And the fish tacos were good as well. The appetizer sampler wasn't great. Cooked well but just something was missing. I think the incredibly long wait for the food kind of made it just disappointing.

Quiet little corner spot with some amazing and flavorful Mexican and American food. I tried the pancakes which were amazing and filling. The omelette is a must as well with a lot of cheese and bacon. You can tell it's made with love Will be back because the service is quick, there's not a long wait, and most importantly the food is wonderful!

This is hands down some of the best Mexican food I've had in a while! It's a small hole in the wall but the food has BIG flavor. The service is really good but it's all about the food here. I ordered for pickup so there was some confusion on my enchiladas verdes and I ended up with all veggie instead of chicken but when I tell you those were the best enchiladas I think I've had in years!! I've been thinking about them a lot since I finished my last bite. lol I will absolutely be back to this hidden local gem!

Don't let this unassuming little restaurant fool you. They make a delicious, perfectly executed breakfast meal. I got the huevos con chorizo and my friend got an avocado and bacon omelette. And they make their own tortillas from scratch. All perfectly made. Highly recommend!

Any time I drive into Houston I have to stop. So good. A hidden gem. I've had their dinner and breakfast.

We had a lovely brunch at Magas Cafe. Parking was a breeze in front of the restaurant and we were seated immediately. There were a few other couples there when we arrived. It truly is a hidden gem as others have mentioned. Our food was tasty, fresh, and reasonably priced. I enjoyed my mole chicken, but my husband's cheese enchiladas were fabulous! We are definitely adding Magas into our regular rotation.

Maga's Cafe is one of those cute little spots that's easy to miss when you're driving by, but I'm so glad Yelp helped me find it. Once I saw the picture of the Chicken Tostada plate, I knew I had to try it and it did not disappoint. If anything, it tasted even better than it looked in the photos. I ordered my food to go, and the quality and portion size were still top-tier. It matched what I had seen in other Yelp pictures, which I really appreciated since that's not always the case. The person who helped me was patient and kind while I took my time looking over the menu, which made the experience even better. I paid $12.94 for my plate, and for the quality and amount of food, that was more than reasonable. I will definitely be back to try more dishes, and I highly recommend others check this place out too.

Ordered cheese enchiladas Mexican rice and borracho beans. Tasted like I was just eating melted cheese enchiladas had zero flavor. Mexican rice was meh, borracho beans were not good at all the photos was at the end of my meal. Crazy thing was when I asked for Salsa I was told there was no more. I struggle to even understand what that means at a Mexican restaurant. I got fooled by the 4.5 stars.

First time at Magas cafe. We were near the area and found this place here on Yelp. It's a cute lil restaurant tucked in a corner, small parking space but lucky for us there was only one person dinning in. The place is very clean and inviting. At first it felt hot inside but then the AC kicked in which was nice. The waitress was nice and attentive. The food selection is great you have your Mexican dish as well as American dishes. We had the machacado and chilaquiles and it was delicious. The kid chicken tenders are made in house, not your frozen tenders that was a plus. With that being said we did wait a while for the food even though we were the only ones at the time there, but the food was fresh. The pricing is pretty fair. I definitely recommend, just make sure you have time to chill and relax.

After a few months closure to repair their roof, Magas is back open! Despite living down the street for the past 6 years, I only recently visited. The food is solid, diner food and very reasonably priced. They have everything you'd expect but not a lot that you wouldn't. Corn tortillas are homemade but not the flower. Portion sizes are pretty sizable. Nice and easy bfast or lunch spot- not too crowded. They have a parking lot out front. No frills but does the trick.

We love Maga's. It's a neighborhood cafe with a menu so diverse, you'll find Tex-Mex and Mexican favorites (spicy chicken enchiladas, flautas, fajita salad, gorditas estilo san luis, chicken mole, chile relleno), Mediterranean options like Greek salad, kabob, hummus platter; and other homestyle favorites, like chicken fried chicken, fettuccine alfredo, grilled salmon, artichoke dip, burgers, stuffed eggplant, and a lot of other veggie options. Normally when a menu is that diverse, the food is mediocre, but we've been pleased with the many items selected there. And everything's made to order, so don't dine there in a rush. My go-tos that I can not get away from - as much as I want to try other items on the menu - are the spicy chicken enchiladas, tostadas, migas, and eggs bennie. I believe it's woman-owned - it's all women in the kitchen working really hard, and quiet honestly looking tired from being on their feet all day. We always tip way over 20-25% because the food is really inexpensive. It's also BYOB. And they got rid of the outdoor seating to - what looks like - expand their kitchen and upgrade the restrooms. It's also very kid- and family-friendly with booster chairs and kiddie foods (like chicken tendies).

Im not sure how this place has a near 5 star review because it was not good at all. The chips were dusty tasting and the salsa super watery. Then the appetizer sampler was literally the same cheese in different forms. It all tasted the same, except the calamari of course. We ordered cheese enchiladas and the green enchiladas. The cheese enchiladas were literally cheddar cheese with cheddar cheese on top and had no flavor. The green enchiladas had a bit more flavor, but the chicken fajita chunks made it a weird texture. The side of refried beans tasted like they just boiled and refried dry, no lard or oil. They also didn't have any flavor. The grilled veggies were literally frozen steamed veggies. The rice was nothing impressive, also lacked flavor. We literally couldn't even eat out entrees. It was that bad. I do have to say the service was good. One waitress for the whole place. The ambiance, there was none. It was a mixture of random art. Do I recommend it, no. Save your money for other great places in the neighborhood. Bill was $46, definitely not worth it.

Maga's looks like is not a restaurant from the outside but it actually is a pretty good place to eat . The ambiance is calm there was low music playing but no people at the moment . The service was great as well server was very attentive. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is due to food temperature some was cold but I think because they let it sit a little to long before being served , the flavor was great I wouldn't recommend the French toast that's my least favorite pancakes were way better . Overall food was great recommend you try it out . The omelette was the best with the fresh avocado.

Arrived on Sunday evening around 7:30. Was sat immediately. Not my first time here so I knew the menu, my friends did not. So they needed time to see what drinks they wanted because they like cocktails and the menu is not small and they had to choose which ones they wanted because the options are good. When they decided, the cocktails straggled out. Two came out but the other two did not, They just sat at the bar as my friends sat with there with their drinks in front of them waiting on ours so we can toast to a wonderful day with a new member of the group. You would have thought the other staff would step in or at least the bartender would see that the waiter was in the weeds and needed help. That's when I knew we should have not come. The food was all lukw warm. The appetizer of queso was like warm with chunks of cheese floating around and some of the chips were fresh and others stale. A mixed bag you can say. My Flautas where luke warm, so was the side of beans and rice. My friends said their tacos were okay. My friend who got the Caesar Salad, there was no dressing on the salad not was there a side of dressing that came with it. We had to ask for it. I did not have the energy to try to keep wrangling the waiter. If you want to shut the kitchen down early because the day was long I get it. Let the customer know, I get it. I used to wait tables to but I would never give people luke warm food or luke service. The staff seems not to have one anothers back. I did not eat my food, I took my food home to reheat it so I could eat it at the proper temperature. My friend took his salad home because he had more Caesar dressing at home. Left a bad taste in my mouth and very disappointed. The service and food from the last time compared to this visit was night and day. Total miss. $200.00 thrown away. I paid because I could not let my friends waiste there money on someplace I raved about. Maderas is really a small cute spot. It's rare I have bad service when I go out to eat because I am not a difficult customer and I know I am not the only one they are serving. I will wait for good food and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and my friends until it arrives. I would not put pressure on the staff or the kitchen. Also I will not arrive just before closing and make a resteraunt and it's staff stay open late because I am hungry. I rather come when the staff and the restaurant wants to recieve customers.

At brunch, the papas bravas come as small cubes of fried potato with an airy crunch that gives way to a soft, pillowy center - the kind of deeply satisfying bite that makes conversation briefly irrelevant. Crisp prosciutto adds salt, aioli brings richness, and smoky chile sauce keeps it lively. They're served with cactus-handled toothpicks, which are almost offensively adorable. The chilaquiles divorciados are another hit. The chips are dressed with salsa rather than drowned beneath it, so each one arrives ready for the perfect bite. It's a small distinction, but an important one. Then there are the enfrijoladas: rolled quesadillas in fluffy tortillas, covered in creamy black bean sauce and plated with more care than bean and cheese might seem to warrant. The dish is fundamentally simple, but that's the point. Soft tortilla, savory beans, melted cheese, bright salsa. Familiar ingredients transformed into something deeply comforting--the culinary equivalent of curling up beneath a warm blanket on a cold morning, even if Houston rarely provides one. Dinner shifts into another gear. The crudos are sensational, especially the tuna tiradito - a rolling wave of flavor and texture. The tacos are excellent across the board, but the crispy maitake mushrooms are unmatched. The short ribs arrive juicy and tender on a mole negro that doesn't sit politely in the background. It lands dark, complex, and full of flavor. And then there's the masa cornbread, a masterpiece of unapologetic indulgence. Humble cornbread meets savory-sweet mole, smoky, earthy butter, and caviar. It sounds like too much. It isn't. Every element earns its place. The cocktails deserve their own warning. They're the kind that convince you to keep ordering the same drink all night. By the end, you may have forgotten what was in it. What you'll remember is that it was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and exactly what you needed. It was such an unpleasant first impression that my wife and I mentioned it to the hostess when we went inside. Unfortunately, things did not improve. The hostess seemed completely unconcerned about our experience and simply informed us that the wait for a table was approximately two hours. While deciding whether our party should wait or go elsewhere, I went to the bar to order a drink. After ordering, the bartender told me that if I was only having a drink, I needed to move. Apparently, sitting at the bar required ordering a meal. At that point, we had experienced enough. Between the unpleasant valet experience, the indifferent response at the hostess stand, the two-hour wait, and then being told I couldn't sit at the bar simply to have a drink while we decided what to do, the overall message was clear: we did not feel welcome here. My wife, the rest of our party, and I decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. A busy restaurant is understandable. A long wait is understandable. What is much harder to understand is making prospective customers feel unwelcome at nearly every point of contact. They'll mark orders as ready (to make themselves look efficient I imagine) even when they are completely dead, and then will not actually start cooking the order until you get there to pick it up (I know, because I see people come in at the same time I'm there to pick up, order a similar thing, and 20-30 min theirs and mine comes out at a similar time). So just frustrating, is all. The owner is a Texan guy from Kingwood, he also owns the Pit Room BBQ nearby, which is similarly very fancy and successful. Don't let my bad experiences here put you off from trying it. If you want a list of real Mexican gems (and mostly dirt cheap), ask me, but you won't find any Tex Mex on there at all, to be honest. Just not my thing, in the same way that I think American Chinese take away has nothing on Chinese Chinese, such as Sichuan or Xi'an or Hunan cooking.
