A total hole in the wall, but don't let outside appearances fool you.. they are cooking up some tasty meals in this place! The building is connected to a tire shop next door, and the parking lot is not too terribly big.. its definitely easy to pass up. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the hostess/waitress who seats you immediately. I was waiting on my fiancé & son to show up, so I ordered a Diet Coke and water for myself. The chips & salsa took a little bit to come out, I'm not sure if they heat them up before serving or if they were just busy in the kitchen.. but the salsa was definitely freshly made. It was warm (which some people don't like, but I do!) and the chips were fresh. The salsa needed a little something.. I added some salt to it and it was delicious with just the right amount of spice. I also ordered a queso, which was absolutely delicious! My son and fiancé liked the queso as well. I ordered the Mexican salad, my fiancé ordered a couple of steak tacos with cilantro on them. He said they were tasty, I didn't get to eat a whole lot of my salad before I had to leave to go back to work but what I did get to eat (and later ate as leftovers) was very good! The food is okay but there's an issue when it come with paying. We come with a group of 6, the lady in black-frame glasses charged us with total then one of them pay half in cash and we pay other half in card. We went back because the receipt somehow look so off. She showed us the original receipt then she told us how much the other pay in cash. She continues to argue with us. She then ask them to pay more, she refuse to correct the receipt or show us the right amount we pay. I know it's confusing, we only see original receipt and the other receipt she divide in half that I pay with my card. I had to go back to take pictures of all the receipts and called my bank because I'm not sure if she overcharges us . read more

This restaurant is amazing for this up and coming area!! The food is fresh & service is fast and friendly. I highly recommend the soup and salad, ESPECIALLY if Maga's soup of the day is zucchini soup. It doesn't end there - Maga's serves up breakfast too! They have benedicts on the weekend & menudo on Saturdays! You have kids?? No problem, they have a kids menu that serves fresh fruit with a variety of kids entrees at the perfect price point! Seriously, go here!!! Fresh food, at a low price. The only thing that would make this place perfect would be wine, beer or BYOB. Eh.... that's all I really have to say. We found Maga's on Yelp because we were at UH for a function. Since I grew up in the East End, I'm all for hidden gems in "da hood". For me it wasn't all that. My husband order the hamburger with cheese, he said it was ok. The burger had a good taste, cooked well done, and the bun made the buttered burger buns made it good. I on the other hand had the chicken fajita enchiladas with mexican rice and veggies. First off I actually ordered 1 chicken, 1 beef, and 1 cheese...I ended up getting all 3 chicken fajita enchiladas. Let's talk sauce...I expected a nice chili sauce rich with flavors...what I got was a bland sauce probably from a can. There was so much cheese on the enchiladas...that it over powered everything. The decor is charming and cozy inside, but if you blink you might drive right past the nondescript converted former gas station that shares a parking lot with a tire shop. On the corner of Polk and Dumble sits this quaint eatery. Maga's Restaurant is very much welcomed in the East End! There is a tire shop that sits on the Dumble side, but don't let that fool you. Entrance to this deliciousness is on the Polk side facing a gas station. Limited parking. Quick and excellent service! Definitely a gem for the East End. I was shocked to discover this cute little cafe was located in the East End of Houston. Being a native of the city, I had never popped in here and I'm glad I did. A nice cafe with cool colors, smells good, and a friendly staff. It wasn't really busy when I was there, so I got the food pretty quick. To start, I had some delicious orange juice. This might've been the best orange juice I've had in my life; freshly made and was sweet. For breakfast, I had the simple French toast with berries and cream. This French toast was cooked well, tasted delicious with their good syrup, and the berries were a good add on. This beats IHOP or anybody else's French toast! They also have good sections on omelettes, eggs, and other breakfast meals. And there's also a good variety of sandwiches on their menu; I couldn't believe the menu was this large. I am going to bring a few friends or family next time we have the opportunity to enjoy some breakfast. This part of Houston is really getting its gentrification back on from about 30 years ago. A lot of these small businesses will probably take over soon, and I was glad I stopped in this little cafe. Parking can be a mess, however, as the lot is small. Getting there early for a good breakfast will probably be the solution. read more

I ordered a single Gordita as an appetizer and the crispy flautas as a main dish. All in all, the service was attentive and fast but I felt the food was lacking in flavor. You have a choice of 2 sides with the main dish so I chose Mexican rice and refried black beans. They were edible, just kind of flavorless. Went to this little hidden gem for the first time. We had breakfast and service was excellent. Servers checked on us about every 5 minutes or so. I had the huevos rancheros. My wife had the avocado omelet. My oldest son had the chilaquiles and he had them add some shredded chicken. My youngest son had the pork chops and eggs. I had the burrito sobanera (sp?) and it was fantastic! Filled with chicken AND beef fajita, beans, rice, cheese, and drizzled with their wonderful habanero sauce...and you still get 2 sides. From the outside, I'm not going to lie, it looked a little worse for wear and I was hesitant to go in with my girlfriend. Thankfully we both were curious and wanted to try a new place and didn't let the outside stop us. Inside the place is extremely nice and clean and very homey. But the star quality is their food. The food was outstanding and extremely fresh. Usually after eating at a restaurant I feel greasy and disgusting but the quality of the food here made me feel the exact opposite. My baby girl got the veggie tacos cause she's vegetarian and you can very clearly tell they put in a lot of thought in their vegetarian options. Usually places focus solely on their meatier and more costly entrees and forget about their other options but this place is not that. They STUFFED the tacos with an extremely diverse and tasty bunch of veggies, and they were delicious. My chicken tostada was also delicious and tasted extremely fresh.
