I agree with what Marina has to say. This place is chain restaurant food/atmosphere without the massive nationwide expansion. If you choose to go there, just know that you should probably keep it simple when ordering from the menu, and don't try to get adventurous. In other words, don't order crab cakes and expect quality, because you're going to get frozen crab pucks. But, if you order chicken fingers, you'll be fine. In reality, it's not a very good restaurant, but the bar is good for watching sports and getting an app or two; and the food could actually be worse, not that that's a ringing endorsement. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant ever since I could remember. I will agree with everyone when they say the menu is huge. It takes awhile for me to figure out what I want because alot of their stuff is good. Stay away from the martini's. As someone mentioned before, they call them "electric" which I at first thought meant they were very light colored, or super good but it in fact had a light up plastic ice cube you could keep. And my martini was $12.50. Wow, I know alcohol is expensive, but it's not worth THAT much. I absolutely LOVE the crunchy buffalo chicken salad. It is SO big and I can never finish it, even if it's my first meal of the day. I would highly recommend that as an entree. Also, the rueben is very good as well. The only downside is that this place IS expensive. It's not one of those places you bring $40 for dinner and some drinks, because you'll be paying alot more. Our waiters/waitresses are always very nice so I have no issues with them. Wanted to take my mom out for her birthday so I called and put my name down for 7pm. I spoke to a manager since we were a larger group and she said everything was set. Get there and they say they don't have my name and the wait will be 30. So we waited and after 30 min asked how much longer and they said they don't know and they don't have my name down. My family enjoys coming here. They have an extensive menu to suite everyone's tastes. Having fresh, local food choices is a real plus for us! Depending on what time you go, it can get busy and loud. They have a bar, upper level and lower level. The decor is eclectic, fun and inviting. The portions are good enough for leftovers. Other reviews mentioned a long wait time .... And, yea, it's longer here than if you ordered a McD's meal but I prefer fresh, made to order foods and didn't mind waiting 15-20 minutes. They offer coloring activities for the kiddos, giant televisions usually with sports on and a lot of cool trinkets on the walls to take in while you wait. So I have a few gripes about this place, yet for some reason, when people say "Let's go to Maggie's" I'm like "sure" I don't get it. First, they do have a huge menu. That does not by any means say anything about the food. I once ordered chicken marsala and I think I had watered down Franco American gravy over a warmed up chicken cutlet. On another visit I got a Cobb Salad (they're called Giant Salads on the menu) and was amazed at how good it was. I agree with Jonathan when he states to keep it simple. If you stick to burgers, sandwiches and salads they seem to make those pretty tasty, but if you stray and try to get adventurous, you are in for an upset. Save your curiosity for some place else. Onto a gripe. They make these Electric Martini's. I just thought that meant that they were good martini's. I did not know that they were mediocre $12 martinis with a battery powered light up ice cube that changes colors that you may keep. That should be stated somewhere on the menu.....or at least be told to you by the waitstaff. Cheesy!\ The bar can be a decent area to play karaoke if you are into that, apparently alot of people are. Came here again with the twins. I went for the Hamburger Salad again. This time with everything that it came with. I wasn't really impressed. The fries that were on top were cold and tasteless. There wasn't a whole lot of hamburger in it this time either. Sounds like a great salad but it wasn't great, not for me. The twins: Grilled cheese and spaghetti with a giant meatball. Kids thrilled. Kids love it every time. As for us it seems to be hit or miss. Ive been very pleased with other items but this salad seems to be an epic fail no matter how I order it. read more

My friend and I came to the Middlebury location in hopes for a couple drinks and some appetizers. We were disappointed right from the beginning. We walked into the restaurant and waited for over 10 minutes before the hostess came from behind the kitchen to seat us. There were only a few people sitting at the bar and two tables of two people. So being busy was no excuse. When we finally were approached by the hostess with bright red/pink hair, I would have been pleased if she apologized for the wait or for just being enthusiastic, however she had an unfortunate attitude and wasn't apologetic whatsoever. I come to this location many times and I have never experienced something like this before. I am disappointed and will definitely never forget this. read more

I've been coming to Maggie's for several years, even having my bridal shower here! I'm amazed by the huge selection on the menu, and the consistency of the food. The kitchen is very flexible; I've taken friends here who have gluten allergies, who are vegetarian, on diets, etc., and they've never had a problem adjusting or making changes to the dishes. I love the Thai Lettuce Wraps. It's an appetizer, but I order it frequently for take-out and have fun assembling them by hand. The Buffalo Chicken Salad is also delicious, and they'll make it with grilled, rather than fried, chicken on request. Their burgers are great; I'm not sure if they're hand-formed patties, but they seem like they are. Between me, hubby, and my friends, no one has EVER had a disappointing meal here. The take-out is probably my only complaint. While the food is still great, and travels well, take-out orders have to be picked up at the bar. This can mean having to shout over the heads of people trying to enjoy their drinks and a game, and passing credit cards and food packages back-and-forth with the bartender. It's a little awkward. I wish they'd change the procedure so someone picking up take-out could check-in at the hostess stand, and the hostess could take the method of payment to the bar and get the food. This is definitely my want-to-go-out-but-don't-want-to-go-far-and-don't-want-to-settle-for-crap place. I'm here at least once per month! read more

So I come here all of the time for late night food, but mostly because there's no other options. The food, although PLENTY of options, is pretty blah. But when it's 11pm & you need food, you're not gonna be too choosey. I will say the Baja burger, wings & lobster cobb salad are pretty solid options. I've tried lots of other things, but they're really just not very good. Fair draught beer options, but pretty good bottled selection. Mixed drinks are strong (yay) but sickly sweet (sad), if that even makes sense. So a gin & tonic is a good option, but a flavored martini is not. Love the bartenders though. Gets really busy fri/sat nights, so finding bar seating can be difficult. Good for people watching though - there's always at least 2 trainwrecks sitting just feet away from you. The patio is nice, but you have to order food to sit out there which is too bad. Overpriced for the quality, but not a bad option if you're hungry after 10 pm. Some nights there's live music or karaoke which can be fun (or can be too loud). read more

They have a large menu here and I've had things like burgers in the past and they're not bad, but really nothing special. The Middlebury location has a more cramped bar area compared to the Southbury one, but the Middlebury one has two floors and ample outside seating, so I give it props for that. I used to come here a lot for drinks and I really liked when they had craft beers in bottles, which was a nice new addition. However, recently the prices have gone up. For example, Sam Adams seasonal draft is always a nice go-to beer, it used to be $5.50 here, which is about 50 cents more than most other places, ok, no big deal. However, last year they raised the price of a draft to $6.50. I went once with a friend and we each had a beer and after tip, it was $16 for just two beers! That's more than a 12-pack at the store! I know it's expensive to run a restaurant, but there are tons of places around the area with burgers and beers, Maggies' food isn't good enough for me to deal with the high prices and I've moved on. read more

Went here one night for dinner with my girlfriend. For an hour the DJ kept trying to put music on, but it would blast extremely loudly for an instant and then go silent. The thing is, he wouldn't give up, which made it feel like eating knowing you were going to be smacked in the head repeatedly and at random. Also, the wait staff was hard to get ahold of. Still, I'm torn, since the food was good and our waiters did seem to be friendly and enthusiastic (our waitresses shift was over so she handed us off to another waiter). If they would just fire that DJ and turn the music way down it would be a really enjoyable place to eat. read more

We love Maggie McFlys for the extensive menu (it's literally a hard cover book) and beverage selections. You can pretty much get anything from a basic cheeseburger to an elaborate salad with Thai chicken, and when we went in the summer they even had California roll sushi. There is something for everyone on the menu which is why it is the perfect place for a family gathering. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service is hit or miss, depending on the day and time. One of my new favorite Grill joints. Pizza is brick oven and the burgers are cooked finely. Went their with my friends recently who each ordered an (entree) salad and those things were huge. There is a GF menu and are extremely aware of Celiac disease. Television sets are scattered everywhere and there is a cute little train that revolves around the bar which you can see wherever you site. Other decorations contain a piano on the upper level (I believe it is played here and there) and Maggie herself flying a plain up above the bar (hanging, the flying is metaphoric) The prices are a bit higher than a diner, but what you would expect for such a fine establishment. There is plenty of parking, but they are also crowded so expect to do a little walking. The only downside is the noise. Whether you are upstairs or downstairs, the seating is right next to the bar and they are LOUD. It never really bothered me or my dining experience, but if you are going with children who like to cry or an old timer who wants a peaceful dinning experience, you may want to come here alone. Whether you are passing by on the freeway or live in the area, check them out for pizza, chicken, burgers, steak, salad, or whatever you please. I suppose the only compliant I could have was ONE time I went with a larger group a little later for dinner (8:00 maybe?) and the service wasn't the greatest. We had 2 waitresses but I think they always thought the other one was on it, but she wasn't... Again though this was ONE time and I've been at least 10 other times without any issue. For some reason the servers forget that people need utensils to eat. The food has never been anything close to a big deal. Do not order the nachos because they're horrible.. Great restaurant and great atmosphere. It's an easy off-easy on location from I-84. It's located near Post University so it gets busy on Thursday nights. I typically work late so I tend to go to Maggie's when I get home because it's on the way from Danbury. The problem that I recently encountered was that after 10PM (which I've been here later and had access to the full menu) they only allow orders from the "bar bites" menu which is cheaper and smaller appetizers. Which was fine for me because I wasn't that hungry- but if the opportunity presented itself I would have gone for the street tacos. Well, our order was placed and right as the food came out our waiter let us know that the kitchen was closing. It was about 11PM- but there's a sign outside of the restaurant saying kitchen hours are until Midnight. So I'm not sure if they wanted to close up shop early or what the deal was but I wasn't very happy with that. read more

Maggie's is one of my favorite places for brunch, lunch or dinner with friends or family. They have a HUGE varied and delicious (and pretty healthy!) menu. Great seasonal selections, farm to table choices, an extensive drink menu, and gluten-free options all throughout the menu. It's the only place you can order something Italian, Asian, Mexican, American, etc. etc. all at the same table. One thing to note, it can get really loud especially on weekend nights so it's not the best place to bring, say, your grandparents or someone you want to have a serious and quiet conversation with. I generally believe that smaller menus mean higher quality food, and vice versa. Regardless, I ordered a french onion soup and chicken ceasar salad. My wife ordered a quesadilla. The food was just fine. Nothing to write home about. It was a good meal, albeit high in sodium. The service was also fine. Our waters were refilled, the server checked on us after we got our food. It was fine. The environment seems well suited to a hectic family. There are eclectic decorarions, tvs, a generally busy decor. I would go back, but I won't go out of my way for it. read more

This place always confuses me. It offers a really large menu, but stops early in the evening. Always busy and food is moderate to good. But sometimes it just misses the mark in terms of customer service and quality of the food. not too sure why, staff turnover, chef or time of day maybe? I get the feeling that sometimes your just taken for granted and not treated really well. Overall we use the place a lot for when we have friends around and want to get out and chat while drinking and eating without too much fuss - which it is good for, not too loud or crowded, loads of tables etc. great for families. I've been here a few times. The drinks have been hit or miss for me. When they are good they are really good. I like the electric martinis. They are expensive but cute. They never have drink specials but they have a cheap snack menu at the bar. I think the entire list is like 3 or 4 bucks. ( small portions,very small).I have never had bad food experience here. My food has always been good especially their brunch on Sundays! A couple times friends have complained though. I've watched their orders get all screwed up lol. Tried to have brunch outside once because they have a cute patio area and was attacked by the gnats we had to ask to have our food moved inside. Not their fault, just a side note. The last few times the bar area has been a bit dead. (In the past you wouldn't even be able to find a seat). The last two times my drinks have also been mediocre at best. No consistency. And for that reason I haven't been back in a while. Don't feel like playing the guessing game. Is today going to be good or like last time ? Guess Maggie doesn't notice the bar patrons fading away. My experience there was sometime in 2009 and I wasn't even going to post until I saw a similar post and someone doubting it. I needed to meet a client somewhere to sign a few papers so we decided on Maggie's. It 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon and the place was EMPTY. We each ordered a coffee and got to business. Shortly after the waitress, with an attitude we couldn't figure a reason for, brought the coffees the manager came over. He said "you can't do this." I asked if there was a problem with signing papers there. He said "no, but you can't just order coffee. This isn't Starbucks. You haven to order food or you'll have to leave." He also said that "it wasn't fair to the waitress since she works on tips and can't make enough from coffee." Perhaps he was trying to impress her, as she was watching from a distance. I began to engage the manager the manager to see if he was actually serious. My client felt uncomfortable and ordered a meal. With a very high expectation for quality and service (and a little temper too) I am thankful that my client diffused the exchange. Bottom line was that the manager put me in a very uncomfortable position with my client. He was as surprised as I was. I could understand if the place was busy. It's just dumb business. For all he knew, My client and I go there with our families and friends on a regular basis. I don't like to patronize any of their restaurants now. Not hard to fill the gap, it's just glorified bar food anyway with VERY poor service. The place is decorated nicely though. read more

Price is HIGH The outside patio is a nice idea, except that the trees that are there drop annoying little pods all over your food and in your water - so inside is safer. We go here for last minute dinners if we're too lazy to cook. Food portions are large and they have a huge selection along with drinks. However, consistency is not there. We have ordered steak egg rolls and they either come out cold or undercooked so the roll is mushy. Staff need a lot more training, bartenders are inattentive. We did not get silverware or plates the last 3 times we ordered food to share. So we had to sit and wait until someone came by. When you see this restaurant inside and out you think Wow this is going to be great for getting together with friends or a first date the decor is fabulous, now the menu very extensive along with their appetizers and main course I picked the mozzarella and tomatoes starter dish with a brier and bacon burger my start dish was on point but way overpriced for $8.99 for 3/4 of a hot house tomato and 5 slices of mozzarella with a thick vinaigrette [ very tasty ] but overpriced, brier bacon burger could have been perfect but skills of a short order cook showed up here the burger came out perfect medium but my brier came straight out of the cooler along with the crisp bacon and placed on top of a good burger all that had to be done would be steaming the brier and bacon under a tin cover for 30 seconds that would have brought out the full flavor of my main course 30 seconds that all that it would have taken now our server was attentive but not attentive she was always around but it almost felt like we were her last table of the early evening little bit more attention from the wait and cooking staff that would helped justafive the cost. read more

We came in got seated upstairs it seemed pretty busy this Sunday evening we noticed right away our waitress was favoriting another table near us and unfortunately that caused our service to be extremely delayed which we were really unhappy about we ordered a nacho platter it came with beans cheese chips salsa guacamole and sour cream was put on the side as we asked. Ordered a southern chicken sandwich, and ordered a bbq burger both with regular fries. Service was ok we waited about 15,20 minutes to even have a waitress or waiter come and take our drink order. This was also our first time and where we are sitting it happens to be like right under a air vent so our food got cold pretty fast but the aesthetic of this place I really love. It's a lot like how I'd want my future home to look like I mean the style of the wood and the fact there's a very farm like simplistic design.
