This is the go to place after a day of snowboarding. You walk in, grab a menu and order the food at the counter. Then they give you one of those vibrating things, shaped like a pizza of course, that vibrates when your food is ready. I love to get the calzones, and now they even serve it on a delicious wheat crust. The stuffing for the calzones are always delicious and plentiful. I've also tried their lasagna, which is also good. Their garlic bread is pretty damn delish. Don't expect to go into this place and think of a fancy Italian restaurant, its just a very casual place. The portions are decent for the price. Had seafood pasta with marinara sauce and it was simply bad. Sauce was poured over linguini pasta, which had small shrimp, very little scallops and lots of crab imitation. We have been getting pizza here for years. It is great pizza, nice thick crust, good sauce, and nice toppings. We order "light" cheese often to get it a little "lighter" but that is just how we like it. The new salads are great, especially the greens with pears and balsamic, something one would expect maybe in a higher end restaurant but deliciously available here! They are on a plaque up by the order desk and I have to recommend the new salads to all!!!!! The restaurant is clean, service is always very friendly and we have never had a problem here. We have come here with large groups, as a couple and I have ordered to go many times. We ordered gluten free pizzas to pick up and Maggio's did not disappoint! The gluten free crusts were delicious and we were so thankful they offer gluten free on the menu. They ended up being out of the 14" pizza size we ordered on the phone, and we ordered 2 pizzas. So when we arrived at pickup we were given two 12" pizzas AND two 10" pizzas at the same price we would have paid originally!! They were also great combinations of their pesto custom pizza and a build your own home-made sausage, onion and bell pepper. We live in Bear Valley and order to go items frequently. Maggio's makes a lot of mistakes when you try to change something: for instance when you ask for a different sauce, they don't do it. Last time, we ordered Chicken fettuccini Alfredo and they didn't put chicken on it. Once again, they messed up our order. When we called, the person who identified herself as the owner insinuated that we were wrong because she "checks every order". We had to drive the 20 minutes (round trip), back into town to get the chicken despite the fact that they "check every order". When we got there to pick up our missing items, the lady insinuated again that we were wrong. It is not hard to know if a restaurant has messed up on your order and a good business will simply apologize, and make it right. We were very tired after our drive into big bear. Last thing we wanted to do was go out and eat dinner or go and pick something up. We found a business card inside the cabin from a company called big bear take out. We called the company and a gentleman answered and recommended this pizza place for the large group we have. Delivery dilemma from bad to worse. WTF just happened? Multiple lies and a random knock at our door? Please tell me I'm dreaming. We ordered our pizza at 7:12pm through bigbeartakeout.com - around 8:30 we called the takeout company to find out what was taking so long and the girl on the phone told us that Maggio's had made our order wrong and had to remake it - hence why it was taking so long. Lie? She actually said this 3 different times - pointing the finger at Maggio's. Our response was "okay, we'll call Maggio's and work it out with them, someone needs to be accountable here". She replied very hastily "no, you don't need to do that". She was clearly very hesitant to let us do this because she didn't want to be caught in her story. We called Maggio's and they told us that they DID NOT mess up the order, they actually never got the order, and THAT is why it took so long. Lie? This is nuts. We asked to speak to a manager, and another woman got on the phone. She was very confrontational, and when we asked for her to explain what's going on she said "I'm not even the manager, I just have the longest tenure here, I don't know what to tell you". AND then she hung up on us. Are you serious? We then called the delivery company AGAIN. At this point I was just hangry and wasn't sure if we were actually getting our freaking pizza. I got another woman, who sounded like the "manager" on the phone. She told me that the order got stuck in the printer, and that the first girl never said they messed up the order. Say what? She said, there's nothing we can do, we are a small company - the pizza is just coming out of the oven right now. As she's saying this I see the delivery guy pulling in our driveway. I'm so confused! Is this magic pizza? We eat the pizza. We decided to move on from this ridiculous charade of a situation and enjoy our vacation. At least the food was good. And THEN things got really weird... We get ANOTHER knock on the door. We are in a vacation home, why is someone knocking at our door? We answer the door and look who it is - Delivery guy and Maggio's girl. He says "the delivery company just told us you didn't get your pizza". WHAT? Maggio's girl is just standing their rolling her eyes the whole time. Was this the "manager" but not the "manager", with the longest tenure? Why was SHE at our house? The delivery guy was nice enough, he was just trying to do his job I suppose, but my gut tells me that homegirl was looking for a fight. Ate here Wed night, place was packed. Service is NOT with a smile and the food is mediocre at best. However its cheap and you do get what you pay for. Pizza might be the best bet, my calzone was soggy and very 'microwave at home' like. Went camping in Big Bear and one evening it was raining and we didn't feel like fighting the weather to prepare dinner. Went here and thoroughly enjoyed the food. It was very fresh-like homemade style stuff. Pizza, calzone, pasta, kids meals, salads - everything was yummy and great quality. Service was fantastic. It is a small mom and pop place so at meal time it can get crowded. Food took about 30 minutes to come out, but was worth it. We drove into Big Bear and couldn't decide where to eat. We drove down the Blvd & noticed this little pizza joint. After reading a review, we placed an order for pick-up as we went to the Vons next door for some Bear Essentials! By the time we were done, food was ready. We ordered a small pesto pizza, chicken & spinach lasagna, salad, and a side meatball and sausage. Holy Moly, it was pretty darn good....all of it! That is pretty rare, but it was all delish! I have to say the meat sauce was awesome and the alfredo on the lasagna a little salty, but I typically don't like too much salt...my wife was in love! Stopped in on a Saturday night while staying the weekend in Big Bear Lake. It's a family style restaurant. You are seated with menus, but you have to order at the counter. You order upfront and they will bring the food to your table. You get you own soft drinks, and they serve you beer & wine at the counter. When the food arrived in a timely manner, it was DELICIOUS! We had a pizza and a calzone. The crust was light and crispy, just how we like it. The sauce was flavorful, and the toppings and cheese were plentiful. The atmosphere was nice, as well as the staff. We'll be going back for sure next time we visit Big Bear Lake! read more

Last night ordered pizza and a calzone through a delivery app that was available --- Big Bear Take Out. Ready in approximately 1/2 hr. My wife showed up at 8PM (when 1/2 hr was up) and left after 9PM. They said "sorry we didn't get that order because Big Bear Take Out closed due to COVID.......ummm, then why did you agree to continue taking orders through it?!?!?! They clearly did because they did not ask my wife to pay separately........what's the worst is that any decent business would have comp'd the deal for her having to wait that long!! Nothing....didn't even offer her a drink once they realized they screwed up. Have to say food was pretty darn good --- I don't like to leave readers in a lurch on the food quality! My wife loves this place and she's had the pizza and mushroom ravioli. I had the eggplant Parmesan hot sub both times on squaw bread and was very happy with it. It's piled with cheese which is usually not ok for me...plus the sandwich gets soggy kinda quick but oh well...it's still really good :) However there are no waiters. This was the one restaurant we ate at during our vacation in Big Bear. There aren't many places to eat so when we asked our front desk for a Italian recommendation she immediately told us we should go to Maggio's. It resides in the same location as VON's (aka Safeway) where we had bought all of our groceries so we knew where to go. Maggio's has a unique order system whether you take out or eat in. You go up to a counter to order your food. If your taking out there is a small wait area. If your going to eat in you get a buzzer that lets you know when your food is ready, then you go up to the counter and being it back to your table. It wasn't to hum bug, but I guess since there wasn't many workers this simplifies the process instead of having a waitress come take our order and such. The food was good and exactly what I was craving. I ordered chicken parmesan and my cousin ordered chicken marsala, both were very delicious. Albeit both dishes the chicken was not breaded which I'm more used to. This didn't take away from the dish, both chickens were very juicy and full of flavor. We also order the pizza fries as an appetizer. That was very good I almost ate to much of that and couldn't finish my dinner, it didn't help that I was dipping the fries in ranch dressing as well. Overall had a great experience nice little mom and pop eatery, and would come back again if I was ever in the area. read more

I can no longer recommend Maggio's! The last 3 visits the consistency has been so bad...I can't take the wet pizza anymore. On one visit we tried the pastrami sub on the recommendation of a friend. The first time...it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had...2 inches of tender meat! The next time...where was the meat...a couple of drizzles of meat on a roll with tons of mayo and mustard. When I returned the order...I told them the last time the meat was overflowing...the clerk offered to remake the sandwich...to which I got back a sandwich with 2 dribbles of meat. Horrible! Writing to back up a prior review written by my girlfriend. Worst service ever. We ordered two cheeseless pizzas by telephone, and was told an hour for pick up. We arrive and the place was packed, the staff overwhelmed, and the manager just waved me off with a desultory gesture, and told us to come back in 45 minutes. We duly returned again, and received our pizzas; it was a bit of a bite into our evening, but... you know, the staff was working a very busy crowd and no point being A-types. We go back to our hotel to find out... slathered in cheese. So we drive back again, and tell the manager. He's STILL dismissive, doubted that we'd ordered cheeseless (why on earth would we do that?) and it got my back up. I used a used a couple of f-bombs, so didn't exactly cover myself in glory, but the thing was a.) All the customers who were lining up in person clearly got served before us (the place was empty at this point, so paying customs were clearly prioritized over telephone orders), and b.) the whole town was closed by this time, so we were going to go hungry for the night. The manager (rightfully) admonished me for using f-bombs, but after I questioned his extremely vague suggestion to "look after us tomorrow" he EXPLODED with his own really choice assortment of SCREAMED f-bombs of his own (so... profanity clearly didn't really offend him...), calling us f'ers and to get the f out! Unbelievable. Veins on his forehead.We'd never seen anything like it. And I'd already said "Look. I'm sorry to be angry, and I know you've been slammed all evening, but this isn't acceptable." So he stuffs some money in my hand and virtually pushes us out of the door and locks it. We get to our car and check the cash, and... he's shortchanged us! They just keep on failing upwards! Recently tried this place for the first time. We ordered a couple pizzas and spaghetti. My daughter loved the spaghetti and we all really liked the pizza. I loved the sauce. I usually don't care for pizza sauce because the taste can be overpowering but this sauce was so good and did not take away from everything else. The crust was really light and good too. We could tell it was all homemade. Next time we're in big bear we'll definitely go back. Only bummer was the wait but understandable given how popular the place is and the amount of orders they had. Spent a week in Big Bear and accidentally came upon this place while shopping at the Von's center. NOT fancy ... but a casual, "Mom & Pop" place with an extensive Italian menu. Warm, welcoming atmosphere with a terrific staff (a BIG thumbs up to Brady!) that is eager to help. Now, for the food ... after our first visit, we were so impressed with the quality, the quantity and the reasonable prices that we were drawn back three times during our week in Big Bear. And after returning home we found ourselves wishing we had a Maggio's in our home town! You MUST try their Italian sausage sandwich ... soft, freshly baked roll loaded with pieces of excellent Italian sausage, smothered in a long-simmered, thick marinara sauce and melted Italian cheeses ... mmmmmmm! All of the dishes that we tried got 5 star thumbs up reviews. BTW - the house Merlot (served by the glass, 1/2 carafe and full carafe) is a smooth, reasonably priced wine from Copper Ridge winery. Hungry After A 3 and a half hour drive my friends and i checked into the motel 6 on division dr and sugarloaf. We asked the motel clerk "Nick" if he knew of a fairly prices local restaurant. He gave us two but insisted we take a 2 minute drive down the road to Maggios. Once we settled in we headed over there. Skeptical and hungry we wete greated kindly and ordered our food and were given a mini pizza Shaped notifier which told us when our Food is ready once the food came we took a bite and the food was absolutely amazing worth the stop we even ordered seconds!
