This is one of those hole in the wall places that has great food. The services are amazing we were trying to decide between Asada burrito and a Verde our server said hold on one second and got us a sample of each..how sweet!! The parking is a little crazy they don't have enough parking for the place the parking lot was full but hardly anybody inside so I am guessing the 5 employees must park in the spot to. That takes up over half the parking so what I'm saying don't be fooled by the parking lot .make sure you come in and try that Verde burrito. On our cross-country road trip, we stopped in the area to try to get a glimpse of the Marfa Lights. It rained all night, so that never happened, and alone in west Texas, for lunch the next day we ended up at Magoo's. It seems to be an Alpine institution, and indeed this is definitely a locals' spot. Super casual with a bunch of tables, with a lively energy--it seems like everyone knows each other. We didn't feel too out of place though, and definitely appreciated the small yet diverse menu and affordable prices. We both got the hamburger steak with brown gravy and grilled onions. Delicious. Food took some time, and service wasn't the friendliest, but it's definitely a good choice if you're in the area. read more

Loved my experience here. Food was great, service was hustling, which was a nice change. They should def consider expanding in the drive thru slab to be a bigger kitchen and more seating. Drive-thrus are supposed to be grab and go operations. If the cashier has to tell someone to drive back through in 40 minutes to get there food, kindof defeats the purpose. Well, hardly any service. Waitress came to table and never utter any greeting nor ask what we wanted. Just stood there like we can read her mind. Got my own coffee refilled. Finding food in Alpine on a Saturday was hard! We arrived around 2 and every place we went in to was closing down and would not be open again until dinner. This place was the third place we tried. There was a neon sign that said they were "Open" and cars were out front. We took our two kids, two diaper bags, and all the stuff out and went in and they were closed too! They were not friendly or nice about it. It is just as well. They were cleaning up the lunch rush but the place looked like a mess. We ended up eating at McDonald's and were glad to have it. Quality West Texas diner fare in a locals' atmosphere. Good: coffee, cheeseburgers, breakfast. Needs improvement: French fries. In two visits and an attempted third, we were met with West Texas hospitality. That is to say, friendly but not in an over-the-top way. As another Yelper said, the posted closing time is a suggestion. Be early. The burgers came highly recommended, and did not disappoint. Homemade quality. The French fries were like all the others we've found in West Texas: not even close to crisp. That just seems to be how they're done out here. Breakfast is a strong suit. From the No. 1 plate to huevos ranchero (sic) everything is tasty. Also homemade quality. Definitely try the pancakes. We're here in Alpine for a week, and I'm going back to Magoo's for lunch again. My boyfriend and I said that we were visiting and we were given a guide book. That's more than we got at the place we were staying in Marfa. Magoo's is a small, local hole-in-the-wall type place where we stopped for breakfast on a Sunday morning and found smiling, friendly faces, a clean (albeit bare-bones) type atmosphere with some of the most delicious breakfast food we have tasted in a while. My husband enjoyed breakfast taco w/chorizo & egg. Chorizo was spicy (but not too), the salsa offered added just the right kick and he said it was yummy! Coffee was hot and we saw them brew at least 2 new pots while we ate, so you know it's fresh. I ordered the biscuits w/sausage gravy and an egg on the side. My 2 fluffy biscuits came w/a whole cup of steamy gravy to add as I chose and the egg was made just as I had ordered. Don't miss this place. read more

Growing up in San Antonio I thought I knew good Mexican food. Boy was I wrong. MAGOO'S is the best homemade, authentic, delicious Mexican food I've ever had. Menudo (only available weekends), Huevos Rancheros, and the Crispy chicken tacos are awesome!! Unlike south tex-Mexican food, the food here isn't greasy and tastes fresh. This place was a huge disappointment. Ordered scrambled eggs, potatoes and a biscuit for breakfast. Eggs were more white than yellow and dried beyond belief. Potatoes were undercooked, lacked any sort of flavor and were not even crispy. The biscuit was burned on the bottom and dry and not even flaky like one would hope. Coffee was also bland. read more

My wife and I stopped for breakfast yesterday, both ordered the egg chorizo and potatoes plate. It was the best ever! Chorizo was not greasy, very fresh and tasty. Tortillas were hot and fresh. Service was friendly and attentive. The establishment was clean, including the bathroom. We will definitely be back. Next time lunch and a cheeseburger. I will report back. read more

I would love to give this place a good review, but after 3 visits it is apparent that they are getting by on their reputation. When I first moved to this area, everyone recommended this restaurant, especially for the chicken-fried steak. Long story short, if the manager is not there, some of the kitchen staff isn't either. The waitresses are wonderful, but when the grease needs changing and the food is burned on the outside and raw in the inside, they can't fix it. Try going there between Tuesday and Friday; evidently the cooks don't perform well on weekends. read more

The chili verde burrito was excellent! The meat tastes like it had stewed all day. It's just the meat wrapped in a tortilla with some lettuce and tomato on the side. Super cheap lunch prices.
