Not your typical pizza joint. You can tell the love that is made with each pizza and the freshness of the ingredients. I come here often with many different people and everyone loves it. You can pick from your "typical" pizza or pizzas they have put together for you; or you can build your own. I have tried many different pizza combos, including a sunny side up egg to branch out. I have paired it with a hibiscus margarita which was the perfect combo of sweet and salty. The staff is always nice and accommodating and I've had no bad experiences. read more

This is what I would call gourmet or GOOD pizza, PLUS other dinner entree choices! + dessert + organic coffee/espresso... Top quality ingredients, like from local farms, thin, but by no means scanty, crust, straight out of the woodfired oven. Everything tasted fantastic. Local sodas. I wish I lived closer to Greenfield to come here again! Something for everyone; they will make a red pizza for the lactose-intolerant. Magpie has great brick oven pizzas (when not burned) with fresh, local, quality toppings. They also have excellent homemade meatballs & lasagna. Regarding the meatballs, I would get the appetizer portion. When I got the entree portion, the pasta was overcooked & actually burned. I eat a lot of pizza, in a lot of places. I drink a lot of cocktails, in a lot of places. This pizza holds its own against the best I've had. The pepperoni pie is, in fact, the best I've had. The cocktails are rock solid, in particular the specials. I've also had some very nice red wine here. This was a pretty spectacular dinner spot for us lower pioneer valley visitors. We had amazing eats, and a Fennel Infused Vodka that was a life changing event for me! We're doing the no carb thing -- so why on earth would we go to a pizza joint? Well they have so much more. I had a pasta dish, well really I sort of blended the pasta dish with a roasted veggie dish, the sauce was a calamari whites sauce and was divine! We had salads and veggies and satisfaction and awe are the best descriptors! Now, I'm not saying I won't ever have the pizza, cause I am a gourmet pizza lover! I can't wait! Might have to plan it... Well after a long ride home from Vermont I was starved. My boyfriend asked me to look for some pizza places on yelp. I came across magpie and thank god. It was just opening. We got right in and we were completely satisfied with out pizza!! It was so tasty! I had the potato garlic and added meatballs. He has pepperoni and sausage. Both different and just delicious. Really excellent pizza, but the apps and specials are great too. I just had short ribs which were delicious, and huge, and $16. Haven't had better short ribs this side of the mediterranean. Went to Magpie for the first time last night after running into a closed Hope and Olive on a Monday. It was nice to have an option in Greenfield other than People's Pint as an alternative (we drove down from VT). We started with bread, olive oil and sea salt, as well as a split caesar salad. The bread was great, while the salad was a bit bland, but a good size for the price. My drink was good - Lime Derby, a nice rum concoction, and my husband was happy with his glass of Italian Red. I found the wine list to be very lackluster, and there were no options in terms of different price points for wine (everything was on the "cheap" side). For dinner, I had the Margharita pie. It was okay - glad I asked for light garlic, because even that was a bit overwhelming. The crust was fine, but had big burnt air bubbles all over it. The biggest disappointment was my husband's dinner - he had the roast pork tenderloin special. It was bone dry, with no sauce, served with dry giant asparagus stalks and dry roasted potatoes. We skipped dessert as there were only two "eh" options, tiramisu and fudge bottom pie. (I should note that I'm very attached to Fireworks Marg pie, and this just couldn't compare, so take my review with a grain of salt). The atmosphere (we went on a Monday) was very pleasant - no wait, not too busy, and although the place filled, it was still fairly quiet. The kitchen crew looked calm and un-frazzled. Service was fine - pleasant, not overbearing, a little slow to start, but with so many menu options, it was no big deal. Overall, it was a good atmosphere, decent food (save the entree) for very reasonable prices. read more

Well... I wanted to like this place more than I actually did. I plan on going back again to give it another shot but...well...my expectations are definitely adjusted. The menu is great. It's really well balanced, has a lot of options, good for everyone. They have specials - I have no clue how often they change - but they were relatively seasonal and had a lot of appeal. There are some brains behind this kitchen. The problem falls in the execution. Take, for example, a special we ordered, "Spring dug parsnips, honey butter, and flake salt." The "spring dug" parsnips were very haphazardly cut, in irregular shapes and sizes, which kept some downright crunchy - nearly raw in parts - while others were practically disintegrating and heavily caramelized. The honey butter was clearly made with hot honey, or honey with chili in it - which was actually really nice, but was either a mistake or should have been mentioned in the description. And lastly - there was absolutely no trace of salt - flaky or otherwise. I could see this dish being really enjoyable - but the whole thing fell flat because of remedial kitchen mistakes. The lack of salt was a theme that carried throughout our meal. We couldn't find any indication of it being used to season or finish anything we had throughout the entire meal. Thankfully, there are shakers on the tables. The pizzas had potential - the crust was blistered in parts, and had a pleasing texture and taste. A pretty weak cornicione here, but I don't think they are going for anything quite like Neapolitan style. This is easily the best crust I have had in this part of New England - which is plagued with horrible pizza. I was not a fan of the bruscetta tomato on the margherita - I could see it being good when tomatoes are in season but in March...it doesn't quite sing. The potato pizza was the one dish that suffered the most because of the lack of salt. Adding salt from the shaker can only do so much when you have so much unseasoned potato, buried under a thick layer of cheese (which kind of eliminated the possibility for any crispy potato bits). Potatoes really stand up to a lot of salt...and really the only way I could see this being fixed is slicing much thinner (and actually seasoning) or cooking them in heavily salted water. I did like this as a cold slice the next morning more than the margherita....which was better when it was warm. The other stuff we had isn't really worth writing about...because it will just sound redundant. read more

I love the hipster vibe of magpies. I love the friendly staff. However, the menu is lacking and, well, overpriced for the quality of the dish. The pizza is pretty basic, the gluten free pizza is depressing. Tonight I ordered the "Fazzioletti Crepe". I was expecting a warm appetizing dish, but in reality I was handed a plate with a medium- sized crispy crepe filled with mostly Swiss chard. The dish honestly smelled like old dish water. I really want to like this place. I've come here several times and I always leave disappointed. read more

As I make my way around the Greenfield restaurants, I came across Magpie. The concept sounded right up my alley. A woodfired pizzeria... and I'm a guy that likes woodfired pizza. I wanted to love this place. I really liked the interior of Magpie. A decent sized bar area with a separate dining area, and nice local decor. I took a seat at the bar, and was pleased to find several local beers on tap (off to a good start). I took a look at the pizza menu and decided to go with the Margarita pizza, only I chose to add the house made sausage to it. I know that makes it far from a true Margarita pizza, but hey, I was trying to add a little bit of Chicago to it. Unfortunately the pizza was very underwhelming. None of the ingredients had much taste, including the sausage which actually kind of tasted like ground beef. I may give Magpie another chance because I do think it's a nice local restaurant, and the service was very good, but I'll definitely explore other options on the menu. read more

I eat a lot of pizza and prefer the fancy kind they serve at Magpie. It's nice to have a variety of vegetable options for pizza, not just canned mushrooms and maybe frozen green peppers. I often get spinach with carmelized onions and roasted garlic and it makes me do my happy dance every time. The bread and ricotta appetizer is amazing. Crusty and yummy. The dressing on the house salad is subtle and just right. I can't go there often because of the price, but it's worth saving for. read more

As shocked as I am to say it, I had the best pizza of my entire life last night at Magpie. It was almost too good. The crust was tasty, crisp on the edges, and chewy in all the right places. My husband and I shared the pepperoni mushroom pizza with carmelized onions and roasted tomatoes, and all of the toppings were perfectly cooked, fresh, and delicious. They even use fresh, spicy, thick-cut pepperoni. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was attentive without being annoying, and I was basically blown away. read more

Love the pizzas and the people! I almost always try the special pie and I've never been disappointed. There aren't a lot of taps, but they always have a good selection with at least one solid IPA, like Pretty Things Meadowlark. Kid friendly too. Clean. Tastiest four cheese pizza and the freshest garden salad that I have had in quite some time. We look forward to returning. As we are fans of the People's Pint, we were dismayed by the selection of beers on tap. The Smuttynose IPA was excellent and they do offer the extremely common BBC Steel Rail. I had great food here 3 years ago...not anymore. I will say this: service was above excellent and our waitress was friendly, helpful, unhurried (in the good way) and professional. The food was overall pretty terrible and I regret not just sticking to pizza. The Greek salad was fresh but mediocre... Mussels arrived second, and a week later I am still regretting not sending back. Three of them (out of about a dozen) were bad, with cracked shells and all. The broth they came with was an acidic, flavorless court-bouillon and the cheap cooking wine was the main thing that shone through. Really bummed about the mussels. The special pizza of the evening came out and was pretty delicious, (fontina mushroom spinach etc). It was burned on one side and undercooked on the other, and parts of the crust were tough and overworked, but altogether it was well topped, high quality, tasty and kind of rustic and what I expected. If I were ever in Greenfield on a Monday night again, I'd probably get Korean takeout, , but if I came back to Magpie I'd sit bar side for better ambiance, and stick to the pizza. read more
