Maguro Latin Fusion is, in my opinion, the best Latin fusion restaurant in town. Located just steps from The Florida Mall, it's the perfect place to stop after a shopping adventure. We started with the Passion Fruit Juice and the Coconut & Passion Fruit Mojito. From the very first sip, it tasted like home. Next came the Bori Crab Salad, and every bite transported me straight back to Puerto Rico. I honestly have no idea how they managed to capture that feeling of home in one dish, but they absolutely did. This is a must-order. We also took advantage of their Pal' Date 50-piece platter, which lets you choose five different rolls. At first, you'll probably think it's way too much food, but trust me--with how amazing everything is, you'll be fighting over the last roll. We chose the Pana Mío, Coco Loco Coconut, Calentón, To' Frito, and Jíbaro. Every single bite was an explosion of flavor. One thing we noticed was how incredibly creamy and perfectly balanced each roll was with its signature sauce. That's when we realized every roll we ordered had cream cheese in it--a staple ingredient in many Puertorrican households. It gave the sushi such a comforting, familiar twist while still feeling unique. I was so caught up enjoying the food that I completely forgot to take better pictures. I had to put my phone down because it was just that good. If a restaurant can make you forget about your phone, you know you've found something special. And I can't forget the service. They treat you like you're in a Latino household, constantly encouraging you to order more and enjoy every bite. Every recommendation they made was spot-on, and I loved every single one of them. It has been a minute since I've been to Maguro sushi, and I'm glad to see that everything is the same, and the food is still at top-tier quality. When you walk in, it is nicely decorated with a little bit of dim lighting to set the mood, it's also a perfect date night spot. Once we arrived we were seated immediately, and our server was very nice. For an appetizer we ordered the Pork Belly Bao Buns and the Ropa Vieja eggrolls, both appetizers tasted delicious. The bao buns were super soft, and the meat was flavorful. The egg rolls were perfectly crisp and the meat seasoned very well. We also ordered the garlic shrimp lo mein and it was amazing. The shrimp tasted really fresh. The noodles were tender and the sauce that it came with was delectable. Next, we ordered three sushi rolls, which were a coconut Shrimp Roll, a Chimichurri Steak Roll, and Tres Golpes Roll. All the rolls tasted fresh. The Chimichurri sauce on the steak roll was so good I could've drank that sauce as my lunch. The coconut shrimp had the perfect amount of crisps to them and the tres golpes was a unique take on a sushi roll that tasted great and works. A real gem near the Florida Mall! It's a Puerto Rican-Asian fusion with flavor combinations I haven't seen before. The avocado miso soup is thicker like a bisque and super filling. I still think about the kimchi edamame to this day, and the bori crab salad was perfect. Everything tasted so fresh! They also have fresh juices earlier in the day that I HIGHLY recommend. The location is pretty small, so be mindful of peak hours, but even still, service is pretty good. There's some bar seating, but everything is pretty close together. read more

Stumbled on this quaint restaurant in a strip plaza just outside the Florida Mall. What a gem! I can't wait to return. Latin-Asian fusion is the cuisine and they did it right! This place is a wonderful hidden gem located right next to Florida Mall. The flavors are exquisite, blending traditional sushi style, with infusions of Latin-inspired flavorings. It can get cold in here sometimes, so bring a sweater. But the dim lights and cool music always draws us back to this place. Maguro has been a favorite local spot of mine for years; I even remember when they had a location prior to this one. Food and service is always fantastic. Comfortable space with a cozy atmosphere. There's other latin-Asian fusion restaurants around town, but Maguro pioneered this take on food in Orlando. Their ropa vieja bao buns are top notch, always fluffy and never soggy. Our tried and true sushi roll picks are the jibaro soy and pa'bravo yo (obsessed with the cilantro aioli). They're absolutely delicious and never fail to win people over who aren't sushi lovers. The only thing that saves this review from being a one star, is the food. The food, for the most part, is amazing. We got a sushi combo and all 5 rolls were absolutely fantastic. The birria dumplings were also good. The friend rice we got, I could skip next time. So why the low rating? The service... prior to arriving I called to verify if they were pet friendly. They said they were so we came here to eat. Once we arrived the restaurant was pretty much empty (only 3 tables sat). I came with a party of 5 and a small dog. We were told to wait and took approximately 10 minutes to be sat in a restaurant that was pretty much empty..... then the server tells us that we can't have the dog, to which I explained I literally just called and asked and that's why we came.. our server then proceeded to take another 5 minutes to bring us water and when I tried to order she just walked away. approximately 12 minutes (starving) later our server came over and took our order. A couple that came after us, was sat and with drinks before our order was taken. Once our food came out the fried rice was missing the egg and no soy sauce, wasabi or ginger was offered to us. We have been waiting to visit this place for over a year and I'm so happy we decided to stop in! Our wait time to sit was pretty quick, but they were pretty short staffed so it took some time to get served. It started with our drinks which was la Guaynabita and the guayacol. Both delicious and sweet cocktails infused with lychee and the other with coconut. Paired that with Salmon and Chicken Bao Buns, and two sushi rolls. My dad was accompanying me and asked for a recommendation, he said he loves spicy tuna rolls, or anything spicy, the waitress recommended a roll, it was not spicy, we asked to make it spicy and she did not respond. Our rolls came very fast which was great, but we went given soy sauce dishes or wasabi, we asked for them and got the soy sauce dishes and eel sauce and spicy mayo, no wasabi. The server seemed to be in a bad mood from the start, she didn't check on us for drink refills, and seemed irritated when we would ask questions about the menu, I understand everyone had bad days, but wow, I haven't had this bad of service in a long time. They have variety of sushi rolls, appetizers, and drinks on the menu. The interior is well decorated, and they seem to have a side room for groups. My companion started with the Mori Soñando, which is like an orange Creamsicle drink with Boba. It was really good. For rolls, we ordered the Jibaro Soy, Pa' Bravo Yo, and Sake Quemao. The Jibaro Soy is a steak roll with sweet plantain, cream cheese, and avocado. The Pa' Bravo Yo is a like the previous roll but with shrimp tempura instead of steak. The Sake Quemao is like the other two, but topped with smoked salmon. We also got the chicken bao buns. The rolls were fire! I really enjoyed the blend of flavors on each of the rolls. I would rank them in the order I mentioned. I'd recommend this restaurant if you like sushi and Latin food. It's a perfect marriage of the two. I stopped by Maguro for lunch after having this spot recommended to me by a friend. It's near the Florida Mall in the same plaza as another restaurant I had a less than enjoyable experience at, but of course I was going in giving this place the benefit of the doubt. When it comes to overall vibes it's very beautifully decorated on the inside. It's classy yet still casual with some accents of asian culture. We were greeted and sat right away, however it did take a while for someone to take our order, and we did have two other tables that came in after us and got their food before we did. After reviewing the menu I decided to try one of their fusion sushi rolls "El Chulo". I liked the flavor of it a lot but it was mushier than your standard sushi roll so that was kind of off putting. My friend ordered a teriyaki bowl which looked pretty good, so if I were to come back here again I would try that next! About 10 minutes passed, she asked if we saw the menu and we said yes...?? Then she said ok, your table (which was available since we came in) is over there *points*. I didn't think I was in a diner but a fine dining restaurant especially with the prices I saw. Upon sitting, she also took a while to get to us and when she did, asked us what we wanted to drink and meals. Luckily, the drinks came quickly. The food came at an adequate time as that kitchen was busy. Our waitress only came once to check in on us. She was very attentive to her other three tables that sat after us. Once we finished, it took her A LONG TIME to bring the check to us and it was because she was busy with her other tables closing them out. I could only assume she did this as she would have received an automatically 20% tip being a "large party". This is the reason for the three stars. Poor service & lack of attention. Give. The price of the dishes doesn't reflect the service and mannerisms. The price reflects the decor BUT the kitchen and bathroom location reflects a diner. Would I come back? Probably not. We started off with the Bien Pegao (Crispy rice topped with your choice of protein- we opted for krab/salmon). This was absolutely LOADED in the best way. As an appetizer I was highly suggested the fried tuna. I would say this is a very large appetizer dish; great to share or even have as an entrée. It was really good and that avocado sauce it came with it gave it such a good touch. I also had the pork belly fried rice. This also was a large portion and great to share. The sweet plantains gave it a sweet touch, but the pork belly was nice and flavorful. It was like a mixed flavor explosion. As a roll I had La Kaldachan; I highly recommend it. Overall it everything I had was great. Now let's talk about the service. I have to say a restaurant is nothing of the staff isn't great and the staff here was a sold 5 stars! If I could give this place a 3.5 I would. I like the intimate ambiance and absolutely love the r&b music they play, it really sets a nice vibe. Love the Puerto Rican/Japanese fusion idea...cool menu options, and the pricing is really good but I have mixed feelings on the food. I've been here 3X already and the food isn't consistent. I've had really good luck on some things and others not so much, pretty bland to be honest. Which isn't how Puerto Rican or Japanese food should ever be, it should always be tasty. The service however, has always been good. As you can see by the pictures, I've ordered a pretty decent amount of menu items. The first time I had the ropa vieja eggrolls they were so delicious, today...the outer part was burnt and the meat was dry, making it totally underwhelming. Today I tried the chicken bao buns, and they were delicious, I actually wanted more. They offer a happy hour menu during the week until 7, so definitely order them. As for the sushi, most of the ones we tried were just okay, nothing special which sucks because I really want to love this place.
