When you enter this restaurant, you know this is not a typical Chinese restaurant. The decor and the lighting are not of the traditional type, like what you would see at Lucky City, Lion City, or Sichuanese Cuisine in the Plano area. One thing you notice very quickly is that you don't see too many patrons of Chinese or Asian decent. The atmosphere is very calm and dark during dinner time. It strays from the conventional Chinese style. Although all the wall paintings and lighting are clearly Chinese, the ambiance is much different. Beautifully finished wood really complements the modern feel. We ordered the seafood tofu velvet soup, which was very delicious and had a good mix of ingredients, such as scallops, shrimp, egg white, tofu, and a little bit of cilantro. In a regular Chinese restaurant, you wouldn't find that many items in a seafood soup. It shows the chef's intention to make the soup really unique and palatable. Mostly importantly, it sets the tone for the dishes to come. Upon recommendation of the waitress, we got the signature pomelo shrimp. It didn't disappoint us. It was wonderful! It was lightly floured so we got a better taste of the seafood rather than the thick batter. It was crispy, sweet with a subtle sour taste. The walnut was very crunchy and toasty. What was unique about this dish is it uses pomelo, which is probably in the same family of the grapefruit. Much bigger in size than a grapefruit, I t is very popular in Southeast Asia. The only thing I could pick on was the food was not plated properly. The walnuts, although tasted wonderful, were not placed evenly over the plate. We also ordered the fried beef noodles. The noodles were fried and shaped into two bowls, topped with beef, broccoli, snow peas, and sliced carrots. The plating was artistically done, and everything tasted delicious. The noodles were crispy and crunchy, and the beef was tender and juicy. You may ask what "Mah-Jong" means. Let me tell you it's not someone's name as you might think. Mah-Jong is a gambling game, most popular in Hong Kong and a few southern cities in Mainland China. You may find a few pieces of mah-jong on the table. Also, if you look up you will see many bird cages. There are no birds; rather they are used as lamp covers - very creative design. There are also beautiful paintings or pictures on the walls. The service was unusually nice and attentive, which is "non-traditional" because the waitress did come by every now and then to check on you and ask you about the food. She also came to fill our glasses with water when they were empty. In a traditional Chinese restaurant, they would leave you alone to enjoy your food undisturbed. Although the menu is not extensive, everything dish is well thought out and prepared. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. We may come back to try something else. read more

This place was an absolute treasure to find! I had some extra time on my hands and this Texas rain was really making me crave soup dumplings(xiao kong bao). I pulled Mah-Jong off of Yelp-of course- and made my way with eagerly hopeful stomach and tastebuds. As soon as I pulled up to the restaurant, I was so excited. This place was absolutely adorable and well kept. I made my way inside after snapping a few photos of the inviting elevation. Inside the restaurant was a complete feast for the eyes. So many elegant details and personal touches. The server quickly seated me and I got to ordering my dumplings. I ordered an extra side of customer favorite Szechuan Style Chicken Dumplings which will now be the catalyst of many future dumpling cravings. If I ordered nothing else on this menu, these delectably flavorful morsels will have satisfied my every longing. As the server brings your order, they toss the dumplings in the pool of sauce lying just underneath it, before placing a couple on your plate to indulge. The tangy, sweet, savory Szechuan sauce was a sensational experience for my taste buds providing that slow heat to the back of your throat that is iconic with the Szechuan peppercorns. It felt like a Chinese New Year fireworks show was exploding in my mouth. After quickly inhaling these tasty morsels(I had a difficult time pacing myself with these), I moved on to the fresh pork soup dumplings which thoroughly quenched my craving these soul satisfying packages of goodness. The service was great and the ambience was good. I went there with a group of friends. I had the Mongolian Beef. It was served with a choice of Egg-Drop or Hot and Sour Soup, along with an Egg-Roll and Steamed or Fried Rice. The Mongolian Beef was stirred with a shredded pepper sauce, which made it a bit too spicy for me, but as long as I dodged them ( the peppers), it was OK. The Beef, I thought, had a little too much fat, but the flavor was excellent. We all ordered off of the Lunch Menu, which I thought had a serving size, which was just right, at least for me, that is. I gave it 4 stars, for the reasons above. If you are looking for a quiet little place for a Chinese Lunch or Dinner, this would be one. read more

We came here for a Saturday night date and we're not disappointed! The atmosphere is modern fresh and romantic. The service is attentive and we enjoyed meeting the manager Anson. We had several things including the dumplings, tofu and cole slaw for appetizers. All were delicious -- we asked for sauces to go with the tofu and that made it even better. I ordered from Mah-Jong off of Uber Eats a couple of days ago just to give it a shot, and I am SO glad that I did! I ordered the beef flat noodles and it was delicious. The sauce was great and they provided a fair amount of beef within the meal itself. The only downside was that the beef flat noodles were $14 and the portion size was a bit small for the price, which I was disappointed about. I also ordered the hot and sour soup, which was good! I would order it again in the future, however, it was $5 for a relatively small portion size. We love this restaurant! The food has great flavor, from what we had I would say it was the best of each respective dish that I've had in DFW for sure. The ingredients are fresh and you can taste it especially compared to other restaurants. The food isn't the only great part of this place, the hospitality is second to none. This place is pretty pricey compared to other restaurants of the same nature, but it's also in West Plano so I guess that has something to do with it. Even though they're open again for dine in, I ordered to go because I'm still not comfortable with it. I arrive early and my meal was already ready, which is always a plus. It was in a small bag, which was also exciting as most Chinese take out is usually in a large brown paper sack that's hard to dispose of. The girl was friendly and motioned to my order, being careful not to touch it while practicing social distancing. My order wasn't entirely correct. With the sesame chicken dinner, I asked for fried rice instead of steamed - even though the menu doesn't really specify if the meat comes with anything at all and I just assumed based on photos. When I got in the car, it was a container of steamed rice. The meal wasn't for me so I ended up forking over my actual meal of shrimp fried rice in exchange. The fried rice was very tasty and it was really exciting to have soup dumplings to go, as most places don't do them. They were delicious, but small and pricy ($8 for four bite sized ones). The egg rolls were also expensive and smaller than most places. The meals were the priciest though. Similar portions, but both $4 to $5 more than the standard place. I know location, again, is everything but our meal was steep. The food was good enough for us to return, but based on the bill it'd be impossible to eat here unless it was a special occasion. read more

Wow where do I start with this review. Very expensive, no quality and horrible service. For a cup of soup, a lettuce wrap appetizer and a poorly made beef dish $40. The place was featured on some local news channel last year and that is their claim to fame. One of the servers was eager to get me to order another glass of wine, as soon as I did that he brought the check and I was only at the appetizer course. Then I asked for the beef and peppers dish no peanuts, guess what my plate was full of peanuts. They use hoisin sauce on everything and that is to cover the poor quality of the ingredients. The beef dish had maybe 6 pieces of beef and a ton of undercooked peppers. I have asked for extra veggies instead of rice and they are charging $8 for a side of veggies, hello..... insane..... this is not a high end place My recommendation "stay away from this place". What an excellent find. My mother & daughter joined me for lunch here on a Sat. The staff is friendly, efficient & aims hard to please. My daughter ordered the egg drop soup as a starter. It came out in the cutest presentation pot. It's worth ordering just to see. The soup was wonderful & a great start to her meal. For entrees two of us had the chicken lettuce wraps. Thoroughly enjoyable. They used tiny romaine lettuce instead of iceberg. Definitely a great choice. We also ordered the pork steamed dumplings. Again, the presentation was above our expectations. Tiny twisted dumplings placed on sliced carrot medallions & steamed in a mini steamer. Delicious, too. The decor is clean & upbeat. I've been here three times and all three times the food was delicious. No complaints with the quality and freshness of the seafood, meat and vegetables. My favorite part is that each dish has a distinctive flavor that I can actually taste . Usually when you order a Chinese dish, the sauces and gravies all tend to taste the same. Whether it's a brown sauce or white sauce, the flavors eventually get lost. At Mah-Jong it's different. Kudos to the Chef for putting in that extra effort to deliver quality Chinese cuisine. My husband's only one complaint is that there wasn't enough beef in the crispy noodle dish, which was excellently prepared. Mah-Jong has indeed become a regular and my two grandkids also have made this one of their favorites. My grandson loves the egg-drop soup and a number of times I've done a takeout for him after my lunch. He's also settled on the orange chicken as his standard fare and will even eat the small broccoli garnish after dipping it in the sauce. My granddaughter prefers the hot and sour soup, the chicken pot-stickers, and the sesami chicken. I will note that I consider lunch pricing, which includes a soup, as a very good deal. At dinner, the servings are bigger but the soups are not included in the pricing. Last time for dinner I suggested sharing a couple of plates for three of us, especially with two plates of pot stickers and soups, but got no agreement. Instead we wound up with a fair amount of take home. Overall, we've been enjoying our meals at Mah-Jong and the very friendly service we always get. read more

We had Christmas dinner here before and had a good experience, so I decided to pop in for lunch. The place was fairly full at around 1p. There were two waiters and a hostess, so it seemed the waiters were a bit overwhelmed. I got seated right away and handed the menu. No lunch menu I'm told. Lesson is if you come by yourself, you will not be able to really have different courses unless you're compelled to order it all and take it home. I could not, so I ordered noodles. I have always enjoyed Singapore noodles elsewhere, so I thought I would give it a whirl here. I asked for lemon with my water. I had to ask for a straw. Then I reminded him about the lemon after I received my noodles. To my dismay, it had eggs. I have never had eggs in them. There were a few boiled shrimp, bits of pork sausage and a few stands of beans sprouts (see my photo--you can see two, but I found another). The rice noodles were utterly tasteless. There was no hint of curry at all, so I asked for chili pepper paste and doused it. I had rice noodles with egg, shrimp in chili paste, and oh yeah, some lemon. My measuring stick for these noodles are the ones from Panda Inn, not "Express" but the full service restaurant. I used to go when I worked in Glendale and there was also on in Ontario relatively close to my old house. The noodles are aromatic, with spicy curry (like your hair on fire) with good chicken and vegetables--no egg anywhere in sight. Oh well. My point is don't go here alone and don't get the Singapore noodles. read more

However, I feel like the chicken is made the day before and then deep fried and sauce added once ordered because the chicken is always dry. If the chicken was fresh and juicy then it couldn't be beat. Also, if you want extra orange sauce for the chicken then they charge an additional $5.00 for a bowl of it. They will not serve a small amount of extra sauce. In addition, they serve a side salad with lunch but if you'd like one with dinner then you must purchase a full size salad. If they were a little more flexible then I would visit more often. read more

We got the potstickers, dim sums, and hot and sour soup. For the main course we ordered the red devil chicken, pan fry crispy noodle, and Yu Xiang shrimp. The appetizers were good, but we weren't a fan of the main courses. Out of the three dishes, the red devil chicken was the best. Even then, it wasn't worth the price. First time at this place as I don't eat Chinese food that much, but when I do, it is usually fast food. The place was small and the service was very quick and efficient. We ordered Szechuan dumpling which were very good. We ordered a clay pot which was different, and not that memorable. I ordered the Mongolian beef which is my go to meal and was surprised by the taste, as it had no sweetness as I expected. Menu said special sauce, but was not as I expected. A fried chicken dish was very good. I was surprised by the prices as they seemed rather high to me. We ordered a small pot of tea, and was surprised to see it was over $15 for the four of us. I came here on New Years day for lunch and it was a great experience. First off, this is an upscale place with great decor, dark ambiance, and prices are a bit higher to match. We were the only ones in the restaurant and were seated in the back corner, which was perfect. They had high chairs so kids are not a problem. We came primarily because they have soup dumplings and my kids love them. In addition to that, we started with the scallion pancakes as well. I loved that the food was not too greasy and felt actually clean and not heavy afterwards. Both appetizers were great and for my entree, I got the beef flat noodles. There was a ton of meat and the sauce was good, but not spicy enough for me. If you like spicy, ask them for the ghost pepper chili sauce. It is a doozy! read more

Stopped by for some Chinese food and interesting menu. A little mix of cantonese menu along with Szechuan menu along with some American Chinese menu options. Started with hot and sour soup which was tasty and has a little spice. Next was haw gai which was pretty good...then Shiu Mai which was just ok tasting. The xiao long Bao was pretty amazing I have to admit! It surprised me a little bit...obviously from California my standards for Chinese food is pretty high so I would recommend this although it only comes with four. The Szechuan chicken dumpling had a really good sauce that was excellent as well. Next the seafood fried rice I think is a must get, so soft and really well made!!
