    Nigiri

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Haven't been back in yearssss so felt like I was coming for the first time. I remember it being smaller and more intimate for some reason.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]In any case, we got a window seat which I appreciated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Enjoyed the chirashi don and nigiri particularly. I don't think it's a value spot nor "night out" vibes, maybe something in between But lengthy menu has something for everyone. Service is friendly but they are busy so you may need to flag them down and also wait a bit for orders.

We tried to go to another sushi restaurant but it was fully booked, so we came here instead. We came at a good time since we didn't have to wait. The menu is quite extensive and I was a bit overwhelmed. We started off with the nankotsu karaage (deep fried chicken cartilage), which were crispy and some pieces had some meat to them. Then I went with the basic chirashi don while my bf got the chanko nabe (sumo stew). The rice was nicely seasoned, but I felt as if the fish lacked flavor. The nabe was comforting, but the wagyu beef slices were chewy.

As a sushi lover, I came here with high hopes--especially since it came recommended by a coworker. Food 3/5: I went for the omakase set, which was decent but felt like it was missing some of the stars (no sweet shrimp, no uni). I ended up ordering scallop and uni à la carte, which were fine but not particularly memorable. The green tea ochazuke honestly tasted like something straight out of a supermarket packet--not bad, but not impressive either. On the plus side, my coworkers raved about the eel fried rice and some of the specialty rolls. Definitely more of a "fun group sushi night" than a pure sushi connoisseur spot. Surprisingly reasonable for the Bay Area. With a group of 10, we expected the bill to hit ~$100 per person, but it came out below that, which was a nice surprise. Definitely helps make this more of a "good value group dinner" spot rather than a high-end sushi destination. Atmosphere: 3/5 [[HIGHLIGHT]]The entrance is a little hidden--you could miss it if you're not looking closely since it shares space with another spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, the dining room is fairly spacious, but since our group was 10+, they just pushed a few tables together. It worked, but it did feel a little cramped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Still, the vibe was lively and casual--good for big groups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service: 5/5 Service was good, especially considering the size of our party. Food came out steadily, and staff handled our chaos with patience. All in all, If you're looking for the most refined sushi experience, this probably won't wow you. But if you're with a group of friends or coworkers and want a lively atmosphere with plenty of rolls, fried rice, and crowd-pleasing dishes at a fair price, this place works. For me personally, the sushi was just okay, but I'd come back for the group vibe.

A reliable sushi spot! I had a great experience at Dash -- everything we ordered was solid, and the overall quality of the food, especially the fish, really stood out. It's definitely a place I'd return to. What We Ordered * Chicken Karaage - crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. A perfect way to start the meal. * Chizu Katsu - tonkatsu-style pork cutlet filled with cheese. Rich, indulgent, and comforting. * Lion King Roll - baked roll with salmon and mozzarella on top. Warm, flavorful, and a crowd-pleaser. * 2 Salmon Nigiri - buttery, fresh, and beautifully cut. * Rising Sun Roll - shrimp tempura and imitation crab inside, topped with exceptionally fresh tuna and aioli. This was the standout -- the tuna on top was incredibly buttery and clean, easily the highest quality I've had in a while. Service & Ambiance The service was straightforward and efficient -- nothing over the top, but everything arrived on time and as expected. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was definitely a highlight: cute, clean, and modern with a cozy Japanese vibe that made the whole experience feel a little extra special.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Final Thoughts Dash delivers on quality, especially when it comes to their fish -- the tuna, in particular, was on another level. The flavors were well-balanced across the board, and the menu had fun, playful options without compromising freshness. That said, when comparing to a few of my absolute favorites in the area, Dash falls just a touch short in terms of overall finesse or wow factor. But it's still a great spot -- tasty, reliable, and worth revisiting.

Came here for dinner. It was busy but we got seated right away. You scan the qr code for the paperless menu. We ordered: Miso soup Wagyu cabraccio Hamachi poke roll Dash special roll Dragon roll Chawanmushi Oyster shooters Everything came out delicious. Toke a bit time for the food to come out. But they were busy so understandable. We definitely recommend this place to people.

The standout dish, hands down, was the Ika-Uni. So good we had to order it twice. The rich, savory sauce paired perfectly with the tender texture of the squid, and the uni was just the cherry on top. I could honestly eat a whole platter of that alone. The rest of the meal was decent, though nothing came close to the Ika-Uni in terms of flavor or impact. The fried rice was hearty and filling, but fairly standard. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself had a nice vibe. A balance between casual and formal, making it great for both a relaxed dinner or a dressier night out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friendly service!

We came on a Monday evening, didn't need to wait to be seated. Service was really great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was quiet, I enjoyed the atmosphere there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered: *Ahi Tuna Bruschetta- 3/5 pretty good but not very stand-out * Fresh oyster- 4/5 really fresh, I don't really like it with raw green onion tho * Nigiri- 5/5 we had AO ebi blue shrimp, aka yagara, kinmedai, and kampachi. All of them are super good! I love them. * Mixed tempura- 4/5 very yummy when it is still hot * Unagi Fried Rice - 4/5 there are salmon, salmon skin, unagi, and tobiko inside. Very flavorful. I enjoyed the dinner pretty much. I think I'll come back again and will def focus on nigiri & sashimi next time!

We came in on a Sunday evening right after they opened and were seated immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For the first hour it was pretty calm, then by around 6:30/7pm the room filled out and had a comfortable energy without feeling crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was warm from the start: very attentive while it was slow, and still steady once things got busy. We ordered in several waves, mixing sushi with kitchen items, and they were completely unfazed by the pacing. Everything just came out as it was ready, which worked well for how we like to eat. I was happy to see they run a daily Toyosu board, and the selections that night included a few favorites I almost always order when I see them. The kinmedai and kurodai were cleanly cut and handled with care, and the itoyori was a pleasant surprise--hard to find, and the last time I had it was at a high-end omakase. The quality held up nicely for a Sunday. Beyond the Toyosu fish, the regular menu had plenty to enjoy. The salmon sushi was generously sized, the hand rolls were packed well, and the kitchen plates landed exactly as expected. The miso salmon and lamb chops were straightforward but comforting, and the wagyu carpaccio was a great value for the price. Portion sizes overall were better than expected for this category. I also appreciated their sake list: good range from house options to bottles at the daiginjo and junmai daiginjo level. A few things caught my eye, but I was with my kids this time, so I'll save that exploration for the next visit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Speaking of which, this is a very kid-friendly spot. The staff treated my sons with the same friendliness as any other table, and the space felt relaxed enough for a family meal without losing the atmosphere adults want when going out for sushi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The meal was consistent and enjoyable, and the Toyosu offerings are a definite draw. We'd be happy to return when we're in the mood for a place with fresh imports, a solid à la carte menu, and reliable kitchen dishes. A very good experience overall.

I can't believe I have never written DASH a review! I don't come here nearly as much as I would like. The menu is huge and has so many options for everyone. Their sushi rolls, nigiri and tapas are my favorite. The fish is super fresh. Everyone who works there is kind and attentive.

    Peach shirome
    Ying Z.

Dash is no joke! Each plate was out in under 5 minutes after ordering. And each dish was thoughtfully plated, fresh, high-quality, leaving us wanting more. Fish tasted fresh, and all the ones we tried had a different flavor profile. The peach shirome was interesting and refreshing, we were huge fans. We absolutely loved the oysters! To quote my boyfriend, "this might be one of the best oysters I've ever had." Great blend of flavors with the lemon and roe and sauce. Not pictured are the shishito peppers which were good, but actually pretty spicy which shocked us a bit. We sat at the bar and the sushi chef was very attentive to us. As we were ordering with the waitress, the chef would hear our order and get started immediately. Staff also came around to refill my hot tea at least three times. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is quite deceiving since it looks small on the outside but there is an entire back area that might be better for larger groups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Omakase for $68 (10 pieces) and you can request small rice Agadashi tofu Garlic edamame Mushrooms Scallop and Uni Food was really good quality but the best thing about our experience was our server, Erica, who waa knowledgeable about the menu and provided recommendations based on our preferences. 10 out of 10 would come back because of her. We happened to stumble upon this place only because another establishment was fully booked. It was definitely a blessing in disguise.

    Hamachi carpaccio

Went to Dash ( the format pasta shop) in Noe Valley. Great service. Lovely dishes. Especially nice was the hamachi carpaccio and stuffed mushrooms. We started/miso soup because it was a cold and foggy night. Parking was surprisingly easy for a Saturday night I will be back.

    Kimberly N.

I have eaten here twice now and gotten take out multiple times. The nigiri is great!! Loved the uni and anything that was torched. Everything was so fresh and if possible I suggest sitting at the bar. Prices are fair for downtown San Mateo, especially for fish if that quality. All the apps we got that included the oysters and tofu were amazing! We got the plum sake which was delicious, their yuzu one was also really refreshing. The place is pretty small in the front with some seating in the back. We didn't have to wait on a Friday night, but it did get busy. The staff were super nice and the food came out quick. Parking in downtown may be difficult but there are a bunch of garages near by.

They were very generous with the protein in the paella, and the empanadas were yummy and had good breading. The octopus was very tender with a smoky char. The calamari had a light and crispy batter to it. The patatas bravas were just okay, there was nothing particularly exceptional about them. The sampler is a good item to order if you'd like to get a taste of multiple appetizers without wanting to load up on them! The sliders had very thick patties and were well seasoned. The hostess and waitress were both very nice & lovely. What I didn't really like was them telling every table when getting seated that they're putting a 1 hour limit since it was Valentine's Day. It just felt distasteful but we also didn't feel rushed out. I think it started getting really crowded around 6:30. The tables were also very close together, I think they tried to stuff as many tables as they could since it was Valentine's Day. There wasn't a lot of room in between tables to even go to the restroom. We were seated near the entrance as well so I had people bumping into my chair whenever they came in. We ordered the Gambas Al Ajillo, Paella and the short ribs. Gambas Al Ajillo: good flavor, a little spicy/sour but was just a little bit too salty. Paella: This was really good, but not the best i've had. I still prefer the paella from Picaro. There was a lot of toppings but I feel like there wasn't enough rice. Short Ribs: These were good, but I feel like it was expensive for what you got. It came with potato wedges and mixed veggies. Some of the meat was also a little bit tough, but the other pieces melted in your mouth. Overall, I would come back! Staff was very friendly and attentive and the food was good.

We were sat right away and immediately ordered a bunch of things to share as we'd been dreaming about this meal all day. Lucky for us, all the food started coming out of the kitchen so quickly! The gambas al ajillo were plump, juicy, garlicky. The crab croquetas just melt in your mouth immediately and are rich in flavor. Even the cauliflower appetizer such was a pleasant surprise. The flavor of that romesco sauce and the texture of the cauliflower were both perfect. The wagyu empanadas were just okay to be honest and I'd skip it next time and opt for more of the croquetas. We then shared the paella mixta which was so savory and so delicious. The crispy rice bits at the bottom always make for my favorite bites. We get extra aioli on the side to eat with the seafood. Finally we got the dessert sampler which came with churros, an orange mousse, and a Catalan toast dessert with ice cream. The toast was my absolute favorite, crisp exterior and luxuriously fluffy inside all caramelized with a side of ice cream. I may just get the full version of that dessert next time though the other two were still good. The churros were solid and the mousse tasted like a creamsicle. We ordered the bruschetta sampler ($24), choosing the mango, salmon, mushroom with prosciutto, and tomato mozzarella varieties. Surprisingly, they all tasted almost exactly the same. Nothing tasted fresh or vibrant. The bread was especially disappointing--bland, lacking texture, and seemingly devoid of flavor. The mango wasn't sweet, the tomatoes tasted like nothing, and even the mozzarella lacked freshness and character. The wine was equally underwhelming. My husband ordered the Tempranillo and I had the Albariño. Neither was enjoyable; both tasted harsh and overly alcoholic rather than balanced or flavorful. Even the presentation missed the mark. We've had Tim a couple of times and a man named after the Wind. (That's what he told us his name meant but I dont remember his actual name). They know the menu, they're prompt and well dressed. When we've come on a birthday, we get a cute little cut of something sweet with a candle. Second, the food! Man oh man, the food!! They have an insane in-house charcuterie program with incredible imports and lovely accoutrements you dont usually get like tallow and compotes. The main dishes are innovative and flavorful. We had no reservations and sat at the communal table but with no wait. Excellent service, our waiter was so attentive. Always filling up our water. Food came out quite fast as well. The 2 best things were the pizza and the blue prawns. The rest of the food was good but nothing that blew my mind.
