Great drinks, great location, great view. My kid turned 21 and we took him to this bar at the Royal Hawaiian just so that we could be at a cool place for him to try something. My wife had the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai, my kid had a Pina Colada and both were really aesthetically pleasing and tasty. The view was next level. We sat down on the edge right next to the beach in the evening and it was a great view. Just a really fun night and great service by the wait staff.
4.5 stars, but since we can't give half star ratings, I'm boosting to 5. During our August/September, 2023 trip to Oahu, DJ and I stayed at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki and were given a "Celebrate" card to enjoy a free toast of champagne, wine, beer, or soft drink at either the Mai Tai Bar or Malulani Pool. We decided to go to the bar for some bites and sips on the afternoon of September 9. The legendary Mai Tai Bar in the iconic "Pink Palace," as The Royal Hawaiian is also known, is where "Trader Vic" Bergeron first introduced to the islands Hawaii's signature drink in 1953. Located just steps away from Waikiki Beach, the oceanfront bar is a festive, postcard-perfect setting for enjoying the beach scene while sipping on delicious umbrella drinks and snacking on yummy appetizers with music playing. We arrived at the beachfront bar shortly after 3:30 PM and found no issue with immediately finding a table where we could enjoy the view. Although their mai tais are consistently voted the best in Hawaii by the readers of Hawaii Magazine, we didn't order the iconic cocktail. Below are what we had instead: HONOLULU BEERWORKS ROYAL SUNSET ($11) - As mentioned earlier, I was given a "Celebrate" card for me "and a guest [who were] cordially invited for a toast to celebrate at the Mai Tai Bar or Malulani Pool...[with] champagne, house wine by the glass, beer by the pint, or a soft drink." Since I couldn't redeem the card for my PINK PALACE, the waiter traded the card for this pink hued beer for DJ. I can't remember if he was given two glasses or just one for the card. Hopefully, he was given a couple on the house since you can't toast with just one...and the invitation was for two. PINK PALACE ($18) - When at the Pink Palace, you must order this famous, creamy, and vibrant tropical namesake HAND CRAFTED COCKTAIL. I enjoyed this fruity twist on the classic Piña Colada, featuring a splash of grenadine to give it the signature bright pink hue that matches the iconic Pink Palace resort. TZATZIKI BEET HUMMUS ($16) - Following the colour theme, this beet hummus was vibrantly pink. The roasted beet purée with the dollop of cucumber, dill yogurt was a refreshing dip accompanied with pita bread. BLT SALAD ($25) - This bowl of greens appeared to be small in portion size, but I was pleasantly surprised to be filled up by it. I also appreciated that the honey bacon steak was lean. Very ono. Service was friendly and informative. Prices were a bit steep, but worth it since you also pay for the scenery and ambiance. This is the Royal Hawaiian Hotel afterall. A very convenient and obvious choice when you are staying at the Pink Palace like we were.
I like mai tai bar! The drinks are still pricey, but honestly, it feels justified for the location and how cute the spot is. I've been a few times just for drinks and always love sitting at the bar with friends. Great place to stop before dinner or just enjoy a shaded beachside drink. Service is good when sat at bar. Can get very busy!
This place was incredible! We did not like the Monkey Pod Mai Tais at all, but this place wow! We came twice while we were here, just so we could say we had them all. My favorite was the "White Washed" it has a banana/coconut foam and a hint of nutmeg, I had it both times. My husband liked them all, but really liked the pricier one with all the fancy rum, but mine came in 2nd for him. The drinks come out fast and the views incredible.
It was the final evening of our vacation and our friends suggested music and drinks after an early dinner. He has been a fan of Johnny Valentine and said he was playing at the Mai Tai Bar in the Royal Hawaiian. The Bar is located in the back patio area that faces the beach. Arriving at 6:30pm, there was a line to be seated and when we were seated, we were at a nice table facing the beach, but we were on the opposite side where the stage Johnny was performing. Also, we were next to the bar and it was quite noisy. After ordering our drinks, which I got the Royal Sunset Ale, we spotted a table near the stage and asked our waitress if we could move there. She checked and said we could move there. It was a nice center table about 20ft from the stage and we could hear Johnny perform without the bar noise. Johnny is Hawaii's premier entertainer, who is Bruno Mars' uncle, is known for his vocal range and guitar skills. He performed Hawaiian songs and had a hula dancer on stage with him and he covered popular songs. He also came by our table during an intermission and graciously took pictures with us. Mai Tai Bar is not only a bar but a restaurant too, so it did have food offerings as well. The servers were friendly and efficient. It was a nice evening to cap off our vacation with a nice evening of music and drinks.
What a great lunch today at the Mai Tai Bar in Waikiki. Nick was our amazing server assisted by Shelton and Tumo. The entertainment was fantastic and the food simply amazing. The Royal Mai Tai and Margarita was also perfectly made. We had the south shore shrimp appetizer which was so tasty with taro chips. For our entrees my wife had the Mahi Mahi grilled fish sandwich with killer fries and I had the amazing smash burger with those amazing fries. The service, food and ambiance was stellar. Highly recommended
We stopped in for cocktails after a day of shopping. This a beachfront Bar and Restaurant. Serving the beast Mai Tai's around! Our bartender was Chad, and he wonderful to chat with. The glassware is available for purchase as a souvenir as well. The live entertainment and amazing cocktails will give you all the Hawaiian vibes you're looking for.

When we did, it was close to closing and I believe the kitchen had closed. That wasn't an issue, as we were walking from dinner, purely on own unique "hit up all the mai tai spots" bar crawl. The bar was lively - appeared to be a blend of locals and a few visitors. We decided to sit as close as possible to the beach. The lights gave it a sultry, pink vibe. Our server was great - we didn't talk too much to him outside of ordering (very strong) mai tais and grabbing the check. They weren't the best ones on our adventure, but a close second. Super boozy, so I def was feeling good after 2. They probably were the most pricey of our entire adventure ($20ish per cocktail) but they taste like a heavy pour. Even if you're not a drinker, getting a meal or a snack at Mai Tai's should be an absolute must while visiting to take in the views.
Tucked inside the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, this beachside spot has killer views of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. Honestly, you can't beat sipping a Mai Tai with your toes practically in the sand and that ocean breeze in your face -- pure island perfection. Our server was upbeat and attentive, keeping the good vibes going. We started with the Poke Dynamite Dip and Truffle Fries, and both totally exceeded expectations. Hotel food can be hit or miss, but these were legit -- flavorful, fresh, and generous portions. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, and I was already mentally planning my next visit. Great drinks, great food, unbeatable view -- this place nails it. I went back a second time and the guy at the door said that he remembered me from the other day. I was impressed that the staff takes the time to remember people. We tried a few other appetizers including wings and hummus, both were excellent. Once again, our server was great!
Susan is of course fantastic as she's been doing this for 45 years! Excellent and quick service with her for drinks. The next day we stayed by the pool for majority of the day and Diane was absolutely exceptional. The pool was completely filled and her service was so spot on even with the amount of people she was serving. The food was very good and came out hot and fresh! read more

Every time we come to hawaii the Mai Tai bar is one first stop! It's a spacious outdoor bar right on the beach that can't be missed. The Mai tai is exceptional. The menu has changed over the course of the many years we've been coming but our hits from this past visit are the ahi poke with toro chips and the pineapple chicken wings. It's a beautiful spot to recharge after a quick dip in the ocean or before heading off to dinner. The service is friendly but a bit on island time, if you know you know! read more

During a kayak from Ala Moana to Kaimana stopped here for lunch and what a treat. Great food, nice portions, great outdoor area and supa friendly service. Couldn't finish all my ahi katsu sando so took it for dinner. Didn't hurt we had kama'aina hookup: read more

Went here a few times during my stay at the hotel. Super tasty cocktails and a superb view. Service is a bit slow at the tables but are quick at the bar itself. Mai tai's and pina coladas were legit. Will def come back! read more

A nice bar on the beach in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Service is usually excellent: friendly, fast, and attentive. However, one afternoon despite not being very busy it took more than 30 minutes for me to get an order of truffle fries. I suspect the server took a break and forgot about me. Drinks are good. The bar food is so-so. The seared ahi salad was excellent, although it seemed like they put the dressing in the bottom of the bowl and then ahi, cabbage, and arugula on top instead of putting the dressing in a ramekin on the side or pouring it over the salad. The cheese board was expensive but not much of a selection. Two different bries and a cheddar. I thought the chicken fingers were mediocre. However, after I said I wasn't thrilled with them, the server took them off my check. The fries were excellent. Lots of pigeons wandering around the restaurant. One attacked the food at the table next to mine despite the patrons sitting at the table! read more

We make it a point to come here for a drink on every trip to Waikiki. This trip we stayed at the hotel and made a stop at the Mai Tai bar every day. All of the staff are so welcoming and friendly - we were lucky enough to have the same couple of serves across all of our visits. The seating area is casual and relaxing. The drinks are always delicious! I think sitting at the bar just after the sunset rush was my favorite. The bartenders were all great fun, the playlist was a great mix of local artists and pop music. My husband and I hung out enjoying the great company and fantastic drinks! read more

Amazing drinks with a great sunset view. Our waitress was phenomenal so sweet even though the place was so busy. The food was OK. It was nice to walk inside and see the hotel as it was so beautiful. next-door They were having a private show which you can kind of watch from the lobby. Definitely check this place out. read more
Came here on recommendation from my friend Jessica and I absolutely loved this spot! Ambiance is a 10/10. Super relaxing vibes with the beachfront views, cute pink umbrellas, and live music playing. They let you pick your table so if you want a spot at the bar or closest to the beach then I recommend going early. Food and drinks were delicious! Here's what we ordered: + Market Fruit and Berries : Fresh & seasonal fruit. Ours came with pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, and blueberries. + Poke Dynamite Dip : Creamy and spicy ahi tuna poke. So good! It had a nice kick and wasn't too spicy in my opinion. I normally can't handle spicy foods either. + White Wash Mai Tai : VERY STRONG! This mai tai packed a punch! We still enjoyed it and the coco-loco foam on top was good. + Classic Pina Colada : This was my favorite drink from here. It was so refreshing and perfectly sweet. I would go back just for this! + Pink Palace : Similar to a pina colada but less sweet and stronger since it contains grand marnier. read more
This bar is just... joy. Pink, breezy, beachy joy. Between the endless parade of creative mai tais, the half-on-the-sand seating, and the nonstop buzz of servers shaking and stirring magic, it's impossible not to smile here. We love being able to wander straight onto the beach afterward, especially right at sunset when everything turns gold. It was the last day of my Hawaiian vacation, and I finally made it to Waikiki. I hadn't been here since 2001, and sadly, I wasn't impressed. The beach is still great, but overall Waikiki has just gotten so big and commercialized. Dior??? *TIFFANY???* The old international marketplace, which used to be like a swap meet in the middle of Waikiki is now just a giant shopping mall with a target and a Tesla dealership! I am in no way making a political statement, one way or the other, but That's just not right, But, I digress. For a touch of old Waikiki I knew I had to come to the pink Palace. The Royal Hawaiian. I come to the Mai tai bar. Such a cool, funky, vibe, pink umbrellas, right up against the beach. I retired from drinking a long time ago, so I asked the bartender if he could do a virgin mai Tai. "SURE, BRUDDAH... NO PROBLEM." They bring the drink to my table, and it was amazing. It looked just like a "real" Mai tai, and it tasted fantastic. . I didn't miss the booze at all. It tasted like, Hawaii! I'm sitting there, at the edge of the beach, enjoying my drink with a big smile on my face, thinking, "this is the way to end a vacation." it was so good, I ordered a second one. They came out to 11 bucks apiece, They would've been 20 if I would've had the booze in it. But you know something? It was reasonable! You're paying for the quality of the drink, but you're also paying for the atmosphere. The royal Hawaiian is about as "classic Waikiki" as you can get. It's an absolutely fantastic place to go to. Walked over from the Moana with some new found friends. We got a couple of rounds of their Mai tais and a cheese platter. Service was fabulous! The drinks were delicious and a good pour. This was actually the largest Mai tai during the trip. The cheese plate had a good variety of things and the cheese was high end. We were lucky to score a table near the beach. So. I've been going to this place for years. Recently they decided to change their award winning Mai Tai recipe. Maybe they think their tourist clientele wouldn't notice or care if they did. As a regular visitor I noticed immediately. Losing the epic dark Whalers rum floater is such a disappointment. It gave the drink a rich instagram-able look that very few places could duplicate. Let alone changing the rum that goes into the base of the drink. Super disappointed. BUT, the staff is so dedicated and hard working. The views are amazing. We had a blast at Waikiki beach, punctuated by the generous booze and lively vibe at Mai Tai Bar. After a few hours of sunning and swimming at Waikiki beach (can't believe I can say that...we haven't taken a real vacation in 20 years), we wandered around the Pink Palace area looking for a beach bar with a beach vibe and the quintessential beach drink (with an umbrella). Mrs. Yelper and I never had such a thing. Didn't look promising until somehow we ran into Mai Tai Bar. Hard to find but perfect spot for us tourists! Your Yelper asked for "the most touristy drink" and was (unsurprisingly) rewarded with a Mai Tai. Likewise for Mrs. Yelper. Delicious. I've made them at home but let's just say the environment adds a lot to the enjoyment. Second drink for me was Blue Hawaii (vodka, rum, vodka, rum, vodka, rum, and a little blue curacao, pineapple, lemon juice). Oy. For Mrs. Yelper I got a Pina Colada because it's so beachy. I think we got appetizers but don't recall. The location, service, quality of drinks, and just knowing we were in the shadow of Diamond Head was all we needed. Shockingly great lobster roll and mahi mahi sandwich, and their breakfast pancakes and papaya are pretty good too. It's paradise sitting under their umbrella on the beach and feasting on this lunch! Would only come as a guest because there are too many good places on Oahu, but for a hotel restaurant, it's top-notch. read more

When there is a moment to get away and indulge in the free time, we sprint to the Mai Tai Bar and get our drinks of choice: I can't get enough of the Pau Hana (although one may tip some over the edge) and husband goes for the Royal Old Fashioned. Service is fantastic, live music is lovely (the gentleman playing on July 20th!), vibes are energizing, crowd is friendly and some hilarious. We enjoy their food but the cocktails!! Bonus: get it in a to-go cup to enjoy back in the suite or lobby. read more

We come here every summer and love the cheese platter and ice teas. We have tried all of their vegetarian offerings and everything is always very good and reasonably priced. We appreciate how no one rushes you after you're finished eating and how they allow you to enjoy refills and relax. We stay at the RH so we get to do room charges which is also convenient. read more

Expensive. Yes, but you add the ambience and amazing the perfection of their mai tai and this place lives up to its name. We wanted to return to end our trip. I've never made it back. It is a must do on our next trip to Honolulu. read more
