Downtown Orlando, as big as it is, has limited options for truly decent food. Today, I was delighted to try the eight month-old Mai Thai on Pine Street. Attractive, expansive, local, and serving good Thai food at decent prices, particularly the $9.95 lunch special (a few dollars more for seafood). I was quickly seated by the window (my choice) and the lovely Destiny took good care of me. I appreciated her hustle and her attention-throughout my meal. With the lunch special, you get a small salad and delicious spring roll. Careful, the spring roll will likely be piping hot. My yellow curry, with shrimp, also arrived straight from the fire. Next time, I will stick with my preferred Massaman curry, although the yellow curry was very good. The Thai tea was scrumptious - sometimes I go so far as to count it as "dessert." Restaurant manager, Michael, also stopped by to greet me and ask how I enjoyed my meal. This is what we, as patrons, should expect from fine dining - breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Stopped by here for a quick dinner and definetly enjoyed it. Our server Sabina was wonderful, as she provided excellent service and gave us a great run down on the menu. We got the appetizers on the happy hour menu, and they were very tasty; Wings, shrimp, and tofu, the shrimp was the best. Pad thai was the main dish, and it was just as good as the appetizers. Very relaxed and chill atmosphere paired with good food, great drinks, and fantastic service all around. Greg was our bartender tonight and he was very attentive and accommodating. It was a Thursday, so not super busy, but a decent flow of customers in and out. I tried the fried tofu appetizer and ginger salad and my friend had the chicken potstickers. This was enough to satisfy an appetite that was not hungry enough for an entire entrée, although I saw the entrées coming out and they definitely looked good! They have a full bar, Sake, wine, etc. The decor is really inviting from the illuminated bar to the open dining area. I would recommend and return. I wanted Asian today so decided to give Mai Thai a chance. I landed on the Massaman Curry lunch special. I also chose tofu for my protein as I'm a vegan for medical reasons. The salad that came with the special was a typical boring iceberg salad with a little carrot, but the dressing was definitely tasty. Similarly, the spring roll was far from stellar -- just cabbage in there -- but the sauce was great. The curry itself is where the real problem came for me...first bite was meh, but by the second I knew something was weird. I called the restaurant (I'd picked up takeout) and learned that they put regular milk in ALL of their curries as well as coconut milk. Given my medically-necessary vegan diet, this was not just odd but really bad for me. First off love the decor, the bar and lit up star ceilings are awesome. If you look long enough you see a shooting star They are still new so the decor is not yet finished but still beautiful. The food was pretty good, I had shrimp pad thai, crab Rangoon and the donut desert. Donut desert was a little bit doughy, as in not baked long enough. My favorite was the crab Rangoon. Decided to go to this restaurant before a show at Dr. Phillips Performing Art Center. Disclaimer: I'm part Thai and grew up with a Thai grandmother who cooked! Dishes ordered: Black Pepper Steak for my friend's mom Shared between my friend and I: Fresh Summer Rolls Duck Tacos Shrimp Pad See-ew Panang Curry with Tofu 4 vodka sodas and a glass of moscato Total was ~$121 before tip I was quite aware the restaurant is "fusion", so I lowered my expectations. Not going to expect authentic Thai. However, what I do expect is decent and edible food. We started with the Summer rolls which only had iceberg lettuce, cucumber, a little carrot, and sadly only 1/2 of a shrimp, really?! And the roll looked like it was made by my 5 year old nephew. Skip it! Not worth it! The duck tacos was actually pretty yummy. However, my only complaint was the roti was extremely oily. It would have been more enjoyable if it wasn't so oily. I recommend this dish but request for limited use of oil with the roti and get it extra crispy. **Side note, the waiter said that they "make it fresh", really?! It tasted and seem like the roti was something that I can get from the Indian grocery store that's still raw, I guess that if you consider that as making it fresh?! The Pad See-ew was unremarkable but edible. The Panang curry oddly included bamboo and snow peas. Bamboo typically is used in green curry and I felt like it watered the flavor of the curry. Panang should be thick and slightly creamy. Also unremarkable but edible. The Pepper Steak was chewy and the beef was pinkish grey...Yummmmm...yeah, NO! Unremarkable and not too edible. The waiter was encouraging our table to just order the food as mild and add the spice as needed. It makes sense when your patrons might not be used to Thai food, but please know that some of us can actually handle a lot of heat and it is a pet peeve being questioned on the spice level that I ordered. read more

I found Mai Thai on instagram through a local resident. I started following their page and loved the vibe and videos they post about their events. I decided for my birthday I wanted to celebrate in Orlando so I messaged them on instagram. They responded immediately and were very helpful with explaining the steps on how to reserve for brunch. I went in this past Sunday and it was everything I was hoping it to be! The music, bottomless mimosas, food, servers and DJ's were amazing! They definitely knew how to hype up the crowd and made sure everyone who was celebrating their birthday felt special! If you live in Orlando or plan on visiting, I highly recommend going there! Finally checked this place out and it was amazing. Asian fusion is on point in this restaurant. We started with Sauvignon blanc then ginger salad which was a basic ginger salad. Recently went to Mai Thai and my experience was mediocre. I heard so many good things about Mai Thai and my expectations were too high, I guess. The seating is terrible way too little space especially if you want to dance - too many tables in such a small space. The service was terrible my waitress was so rude and had the nastiest attitude, she should really find a job she wants to be at because she clearly didn't want to be there. Lastly, the food is overpriced and it's not even that good - it lacked seasoning and for them to charge 18% gratuity in each check the food and service did not deliver. We were excited to see a new place open up downtown to try brunch. We came to their grand opening brunch and have nothing but good things to say!!! With a new place, there were a couple small hiccups and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. There was a DJ that was keeping things fun and exciting the whole time - biased review of the music but I loved it!!! The manager, Michael, stopped over to make sure we were doing well and was awesome. The food was great and they have bottomless mimosas and sangria.
