We tried to call in a takeout order, but no one answered. Being that it was around 6:30p, we figured they were probably super busy. Decided to drive there and order our takeout. Got there, and we were right. The place was packed! People waiting outside the door. Not one employee just standing around, everyone working hard to accommodate the customers. The time they took to prep tables after customers left was very impressive. Ordered the chicken Pad Kee Mao and shrimp pad thai to go. Both of these noodle dishes are remarkable. So you might be wondering, why just 2 noodle dishes? First off, I LOVE NOODLES! Secondly, they are both very different in every way except for the obvious (they're noodles). The Pad Kee Mao is made with chow fun noodles, while the Pad Thai is made with Thai glass noodles. You can also choose your meats. So delicious!! read more

We are very limited in Hawaii Kai for dining options but wake up Maile's Thai Bistro. Although your food is usually mostly good; your staff is sooooo lacking in customer service skills. Again we had the same server (a young surfer looking blonde guy) and he again messed up our order. He fails to consistently check your water glass and has to be reminded that you've ordered cola's. He apologizes but does nothing to compensate for his constant mistakes. Instead he's busy hanging out with other staff members or walking out of the kitchen chewing which seems totally unprofessional for a server. Is Maile's policy to just get a warm body to fill its quota of servers? I hear no one wants to work anymore and it's hard to get employees. Well, I'm tired of going out to eat and dealing with this kind of service. For the future when this young man receives NO TIP I hope he realizes that a tip is not a given but a compliment for GOOD SERVICE. Do him a favor and train him how to be a waiter. Your business is suffering because of your lack of investment in your staff. Otherwise, just keep turning those tables into a "TO GO" business. read more

Although I live half a mile away, this was my first time dining at Maile's Thai Bistro! I came here for dinner tonight with my boyfriend. When we arrived the workers asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. Luckily a few customers were leaving so we were able to be seated about 10 minutes later. I do recommend making reservations if you don't want to wait as indoor seating was limited. For dinner I decided to try something new. I ordered the Chow Fun Soy Sauce with Tofu also known as Pad Siew/Pad See Ew. The dish was good but didn't blow me away. I found the coating of soy sauce to be somewhat inconsistent and wish there were more egg in it. My boyfriend ordered the Red Curry with Chicken, known as Kaeng Ped Daeng. He asked for a medium spice but said it tasted more like mild. Overall, we found the food here to be underwhelming. We both left with leftovers but for the portion and what you get, it's a bit pricey. There's other options for Thai food that are more authentic and you get your money's worth. BEWARE Hidden 10% Charges. Ordered online using a debit card and was charged twice for a credit card charge. Called Maile's and they said credit charge is probably because our card is a debit / credit card. They also said one credit card charge is for making an online order. All online orders will be charged a credit card fee even if you use a debit card. Note that online they don't offer Debit Card as an option during checkout. Also nothing notes a charge. They also charge a kitchen fee. So why are we paying a fee to the kitchen when it's a takeout order for food? Just another way to advertise a cheaper per item price. They refunded us one credit charge but refused to credit the other credit card charge. Keep in mind their portion size is 2/3 of what it was. Food still tastes good but not worth the dishonest pricing practices. Won't be going back! read more

Inside was clean and modern, but the service was awful. There was no one else dining in the restaurant besides one guy (I'll get to him in a second), yet it took them 15-20 minutes just to take our order. We were debating just leaving tbh. When we asked if we could place our order they were dismissive and rude. The food came out relatively quick, but they forgot our drinks. We thought they'd come back to bring them but they never did. We had to remind them of our drinks before it was brought out to us. The food: not bad which is why I'm not giving this place a one star. One tacky thing though is that the Pad Siew Noodle had regular broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli. The weirdest thing however, is that their Panang did not automatically come with rice, which is a first for me. For a small cup of rice it was $4 each. Imagine paying $8 for two cups of rice. And when we ordered, they did not tell us that the curries came without rice. Chicken Panang was mostly vegetable, a couple good pieces of chicken. Now back to the one other guy dining in the restaurant . Yeah, he ordered one thing, an iced coffee/latte. But guess what he got... SHOYU IN HIS DRINK. I wish I was making this up. It was the oddest thing I've ever seen. He was nice about it, they remade his drink, but how does that type of mistake happen in the first place. I see why this place was empty during lunch time. Been going here for years. So sad how much quality of food has declined! Ordered Pad Siew delivery. Food was nice and hot when arrived but quality was bad. Noodles were not consistent, some super wide, others pretty narrow. There were large clumps of stuck together noodles. Meat quality was horrible. My dogs got most of it after I gnawed on it! Hardly had any flavor. Not much broccoli. All that says enough. I had to take it into the kitchen and beef it up with onions and more sauce. Sad for spending $20 on ONE dish! It's been 6 long years since I last went to Maile's Thai Bistro in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center, and I really don't have any good explanation on why it took me so long to come back to Maile's to get some ono Thai grindages. Now that da 808 is in tier #2 (as we are in the middle of a pandemic), I was finally able to celebrate a long belated birthday with my friend - Jennifer C., and we were able to order the following delicious Thai grindages - 1. Pad Slew - Chow Fun Noodles w/Broccoli, Egg, Carrots, Soy Sauce ($15.90). 2. Pad Thai - Rice Noodles w/Egg, Bean Sprouts, Chives, served with Crunchy Peanuts, and we added Fish to the noodles ($18.90). 3. Thai Fried Chicken - Chicken seasoned w/Lemon Grass & Thai Spices, deep frrrrrrried until golden brown, served with Sweet Chili Sauce ($13.90). 4. Thai Salad - Romaine Lettuce tossed w/Onions, Tomatoes, Carrots, & Egg. Homemade sweet & tangy dressing topped w/Garlic & Peanuts ($9.90). As good as the grindages was at Maile's, the biggest thing I must commend about my overall dining experience at Maile's, is how well this restaurant has adjusted their operations, to make the customer dining experience safe, & pleasant during the Covid-19 pandemic. A few things I liked - 1. Tables were separated well for social distancing, & the tables that were utilized, had partitions between them. 2. Menus were not given out to avoid any touch points. Instead, on each table that was untilized for dining, Mailes provided a small sign where you use your phone to scan an image, to download Maile's restaurant menu, so you can order your food. I thought it was quite ingenious, to keep the customer, as well as the workers safe from touch points. Of course on the downside is if you have someone who uses an older type phone, like a "flip phone" (yes, there are folks that actually use this), then this might be a problem. 3. Hand sanitizer was provided as you enter the restaurant, which is a nice touch. What a wonderful dining experience! Not only did Maile's provide a safe dining experience, but the food here is very enjoyable! If you haven't dined at Maile's Thai Bistro, you don't know what you're missing out! Chance 'em gang! Good pad Thai! I asked for spicy and they delivered but they tried to kill me with spice! I finished my plate and they were surprised, literally the server said that the chef was surprised I finished my food. But I was crying on the inside, the flavor was great but it was hot! We loooove Maile's Thai and have been coming here weekly for 6yrs, this is not an exaggeration, sometimes 2x a week. Unfortunately it's a hit or miss, even more so lately. You either get Chef A who will cook you the best Thai food you'll ever eaten or Chef B and this Chef is just God awful. The last order we had a few days ago was inedible, we called and asked for a refund ($70!), I mean we go every single week and was promised a manager would call back. Nothing, no one called. I really wish it was more consistent and I'd prob pay even more if Chef A was working. read more

The food was ok. When I got there on a Sunday at 1 pm there were maybe 5 people in the place, it was empty. The guy at the front desk said it would be a 30 minute wait to order because he has to catch up with the other tables first (?) but I could order take out with him. That makes no sense. You can take my order right away at the door but only in 30 mins at a table with 3 tables occupied?? Ordered take out, asked for hot sauces which I was told would be added to my bag (of course they were not, had to go back to get them). Update 7-27-22 had lunch with my brother and husband. They opened at 11 so I made reservations just in case we couldn't get in for dine in. Some times might be crowded you never know. We ordered the fried calamari, crispy spring rolls, pineapple curry, angel chicken wings and of course pad Thai noodles. Everything was good and the curry wasn't spicy said my husband. Only thing was a down fall was their soda dispenser the spicket for the diet beverage was not working so my party couldn't have any diet drinks. But that's ok. Support them if in the Hawaii Kai area. It pains me to write this review. We've eaten here, over the years, many, many times. This is a place where the food and the service had always been exceptional. Not sure what happened. Did they change chef's? Did they change ownership? Whatever it is, they've quickly gone from great to very, very bad. The food is nauseatingly bad... quite literally. Sour tofu. Chicken Curry with rotten smelling chicken. Soggy fried chicken. In fact, none of the food appeared as it once did. Nothing looked appetizing. And the manager suggested that, just because a few of the items are rotten, everything else is edible. From the moment the staff told him we had a problem with the food, he was very unapologetic. This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant in Hawaii, however it has been going downhill lately. Both the flavor and taste are bland and lackluster. I usually ordered their 'Maile Combo Platter' and the 'Beef Larb' medium spicy. Maile Combo Platter: The satay chickens were dry and bland. It used to have curry flavoring with peanut sauce on top. The fish cakes got thinner and drier. There wasn't the same impact of juicy flavors as it once had before. The spring rolls and calamari were the only decent tasting foods on this dish. Beef Larb: It was flavorless and soft. The ground beef was very soft almost like mush. We ordered our larb medium spicy, but there wasn't any spices or any kind of seasoning on this dish. It also used to have slices of cucumbers too, but I guess they excluded it now. Overall, just a disappointing experience. They should fix their inconsistency issues. The flavors went down to sub par and remained that way when I visited a few months before. read more

This happened today...When I was going into the restaurant, the owner walked right in front of me, I was about to open the door & she just pushed the door and went in, didn't hold the door for me, didn't say a word to me. She looked very angry for some reason & managed to leave the worst impression. We ordered for takeout & take a look at the pic, the mint leaves are black & rotten!!!!! And the lettuce has brown edges, so gross!!!!!!! How can they serve these to customers? Would they serve these rotten greens if we dined in? I just don't understand how they can treat their customers this way? What's wrong with them? Takeout review: I wouldn't come here for good Thai food. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai and the noodles were definitely not the normal pad Thai noodles. They were closer to spaghetti than rice noodles. The portion size was good and the shrimp was an appropriate portion size so that's all about that was good about it. It came with peanuts in a plastic condiment container with a lid (which I appreciate so the peanuts don't get soggy) but it had maybe1 tsp of crushed peanuts so I didn't even taste them. We took a drive out to the east side for a change of scenery, since we finally had a rare non jam-packed day to enjoy. I had a rough morning, and really needed some fresh air. We rolled into the Hawaii Kai Towne Center and decided to do a little shopping at City Mill and Ross. A little shopping led to all four of us working up an appetite. I wanted the kids to experience a different kind of cuisine, to expand their palates. We peeked at the menu, and decided to give Maile's a try. We ordered fried chicken ($13.90), fried calamari ($6.00 HH? Happy hour maybe? ), green chicken curry ($14.90), chicken pad thai ($14.90), and 2 each sticky and jasmine rice ($2.90 each). Kind of pricey for us, but I was really craving for the sticky rice and curry. When the food first arrived, it didn't seem like very much, but we dug in, ate to our tummies' content, and had leftovers! It didn't take us long to be seated, since we arrived at the very early part of dinner. Since it was a warm afternoon, it was unfortunate that it was a little stuffy in the restaurant, as if the air conditioning wasn't working well. I didn't realize how long it had been since I had really good Thai food until recently eating at Maile's. We ordered take-out and even just for that the service was excellent. It was apparent that everyone working there was dedicated and wants to serve their guests efficiently and with a high quality of service. Everyone went above and beyond to help us and answer our questions. They packaged up everything for our to-go order very well and made sure we had everything we needed. The star of the show for me was the Red Curry Sauce fish. The curry was exceptional and one of the best I have ever had. The depth of flavor was superb and while it was excellent on the fish, I think I could put that curry on anything and love it. Since we took our order to-go, they put the breaded, fried fish in a separate container from the curry to prevent it from getting soggy. They also cut out corners of some of the containers to allow the steam to escape and not make the food mushy. Beyond the curry, I also really enjoyed the stuffed chicken wings. It was like eating a spring roll in a chicken wing! The cucumbers it was served with were a nice refreshing touch. I think with some sweet and sour sauce (like the one used for spring rolls), this appetizer would have been perfection. Maile's has it all: outstanding food and great staff.
