The pricing is completely arbitrary and way too high. I was charged $7 for two sesame bagels with butter, which is much higher than advertised. Even the advertised price was high given some places charge around $2 for the same item. Regardless, when I asked about it the cashier just shrugged it off as this being the price. Lots of reviews complain about the pricing, but the app prices seemed transparent. Sesame was $0.45 more. Very sneaky! they add in charges and create orders to make you pay more than what you originally orders. i ordered a turkey & bacon sandwich $8.95 with additional avocado plus a coffee. total was $17!? as they showed me my receipt they charged me all these add on when it was already supposed to be with the sandwich. There are many bagel spots in Santa Cruz county and trust me I've tried them all. This gem is my clear stand out favorite! Bagels are made the way the are supposed to be made. They are closest to an east coast bagel without having to fly to NYC! My current favorites are the lox and cream with all the fixings on a plain bagel as well as the jalapeño bagel with jalapeño cream cheese. The lattes and other coffee drinks are also great. There wasnt much of a wait and the lady making the sandwiches took my order while waiting for the person in front of me to finish--which I always love. The coffee was self serve with maybe 4 options. They only had 2% milk as cream. In about 5 mins I was on my way. The bagel was fresh and tasty the egg was probably from a carton and the cheese was fake cheese so marking things down for that. My dad has been taking me to this bagel place since I was little. It's always been my favorite bagel place! I am NOT writing this to create the impression that they give things away, since it is a business after all. However today I went in and my card wasn't working (bank problems) and I had to leave and come back for my bagel. Today on Christmas Eve they told me I can pay another time, and I really appreciated it. I have to work on this day as well, and these guys made getting through my work day that much easier. Sub par bagel. I used to work downtown and got bagels all the time from bagelery and Noah's... this place unfortunately does not meet the standards set by long standing bagel spots. The people here at main st bagel can make a good bagel when they want to. The problem is the adult Staff definitely aren't invested in making bagels and consistency is non existent. Got a coffee and a bagel with herb cream cheese spread. Coffee was hot. There was no creamer or half n half anywhere for my 2$ self serve coffee. The owner couldn't event bother to pass me a cup. I had to reach over the register and grab my cup. That's fine but if u want customers to grab the cups themselves place them near the customers not right next to your register. Got the bagel, onion bagel is toasted black, and there is the smallest amount of spread I have ever seen on a bagel. Maybe the owner lady was mad I did not tip for to-go order? The lady tending to the register was wearing gloves, pulling her mask down to talk, taking peoples credit cards, picking out the bagels, and putting veggies and condiments on bagels all with the same gloves. She never once changed her gloves. Gloves shouldn't be worn in the first place because it's obvious hands are not being washed or hand sanitizer isn't being used. DEFINITELY SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT. This place has great breakfast bagels that are made in a wonderful way. I get the everything bagel, sometimes the jalapeño cheese bagel which is also just as tasty. Egg Cheddar and Sausage is great and I always ask for Tomato to be thrown on there. I feel this place has great sized bagels that are easier to fit in your mouth than an oversized fluffy bagel which makes it difficult to enjoy the contents inside which is essentially the reason why I am getting a bagel, not to eat bread but to have a different consistency of bread to keep the contents together. My boyfriend gets the Tomato Basil spread and he hasn't ever complained. The line is typically always out the door and I fully understand why, because this place totally kills it. I'm disappointed to see such negative reviews for a place that feel, is one of the highlights of my weekend! My roommates and I are frequent customers to this place - we get stoked every Sunday to go and have "Bagel Time" and there is no where else we would ever go to partake in our weekly ritual. With a bajillion options for bagels/spreads, who wouldn't? The prices are great, they are generous with the toppings, and we are never treated badly. The ladies who work here are friendly, quick, and helpful. The bagels are also always fresh (you can see the guy working in the back making them occasionally) and when we invite guests to come along, they always say they will be coming back. I personally see no reason to complain about the sanitary condition of this place. Despite the other reviews, I can personally say I never question the safety of my food when dining here. They keep the place swept, clean, and sparkling. The ladies making the food always have gloves on, and I always see someone doing some sort of tidying up while I sit and enjoy my food. Also if you are there - try a breakfast sandwich! They have a TON of stuff in them, are hot, and come with a variety of options. My boyfriends likes to get double-meat in his, and they never charge him extra for it. Overall, I'd say, this is one of my favourite places to eat, and will be going back again and again. Anyplace that has pumpernickel bagels is put a few notches up on my list. Finding the elusive pumpernickel can be a challenge. I was excited that they had a bagel for me.
