We were so disappointed by this location. We've had their sandwiches in SLO, Fresno and Bakersfield and this location fell super short on a taste. The Tri Tip sandwich would have been flavorless if it wasn't for the BBQ sauce. It was lacking salt, seasoning, even a bit of smoky flavor was missing. Staff & services was okay. Staff were professional but not at all warm like at the other locations. The restaurant ran out of straws and soda lids, so they used coffee cup lids. Spending weeks at a time in Cambria is a relaxing and restful respite from the traffic and noise in Southern California. We enjoy the peace and quiet and the views of the Pacific along with deer, turkeys and other creatures in our yard. We also enjoy the local restaurants on occasion with friends or just the two of us. Main Street Grill continues to be a great place for us to kick back and have a meal. Last night we ventured out late and stopped in for dinner. My ribs and side salad were excellent. Besides a taco truck, this is going to be the best overall value in the area. Tri-Tip sandwich - The Central Coast has one famous regional food item and that's tri-tip. Main Street Grill does a great job with their tri-tip sandwich because the bread is toasted and the meat is pretty generous compared to other places. Be sure to request extra sauce when you pick up your order at the counter. Their tri-tip is milder in flavor which is great. We came here to visit Hearst Castle and stopped here for dinner. My husband is a sports fanatic so I figured he would love this place. It's located in the heart of beautiful downtown Cambria. This was our first time visiting and we're hopeful when we saw the great selection and very decent prices on the menu. We ordered The Pig (pulled pork) and a fried chicken sandwich. The Pig came with a good heap of pulled pork on a buttered roll. Unfortunately, the pork barely had any bbq sauce and was not seasoned at all. It was incredible unsavory and inedible. The friend chicken sandwich was just two pale chicken tenders tossed onto a bun. It was nothing exciting. We had to split this because The Pig was unappetizing. I have been coming up here for a long time just to have lunch at the Main Street Grill. Years ago they had and outdoors grill to cook the bbq which smelled fantastic! But with progress, cooking is done in the kitchen. My item of choice was the bbq rib plate which comes with a side of bbq beans and toast. Unfortunately, the meat was not fall off the bone and a bit hard to eat. Also needs much more bbq sauce. Dry and hard to eat. The best part of the meal was the beans and the bread. I know this place for last 8 years. We always dined here specially when we looked for a affordable option in downtown Cambria. It was always ok, the pulled pork , fries and Hot Dogs were edible. BUT we stopped by this year on December 18 th for Cambria Christmas market and we stopped by for dinner instead experienced a culinary disaster. Thanks to Maylox and sparkling water I was able to get it out of my system before going to bed. Salmon was not edible and my wife was smart enough to detect it and went to trash it smelled rotten .( I tried a little bit and grossed out. Chicken strips were dry and looks old my son ate half of one piece and said no more. Hot Dogs were by far most normal option of all and my other son barely ate it half but our traveling friends who had same thing didn't like it. Fries was like always not special but not toxic. I am not sure what happened that day but it was not the place I have known for 8 years I wish Managment will see this review and investigate the problem. The Grilled Sandwich was plain even with the only flavor you can taste is was the bbq sauce on it. Chicken sandwich was literally two pieces of thin fired chicken. My cousins said their veggie avocado sandwhich was good. We came a little before 6pm on a weekend. There was only one person ahead of us. We got our food fairly quick. As one enters Main Street Grill, a light & cheerful atmosphere is felt. The restaurant is alive with diners enjoying the good eats & drinks they have to offer. There is no table service, so one must approach the ordering station where a giant, easy to read menu hangs overhead. The lines moves quickly. It was Memorial Day weekend, and the staff was on top of everything, as they were moving around briskly working as a team, cleaning the dining areas and preparing orders for the dine-in and take-away customers. It was good that we arrived a few hours after the lunch-rush as the inside dining area is quite loud, with noise reverberating due to the large, open architecture of the building. Every few seconds, there was an announcement via the loudspeaker that number so-and-so is ready for pick-up. If one wishes to have a more quiet environment, a nice outside patio is available with tables well spaced under mature trees canopying over most tables. We ordered their 7 pork rib dinner, along with a Fish & Chips. After a short space of time, our order number was called, and we were off and running on the intake of some nourishment. The Fish & Chips were plentiful, but so greasy. It's one of those times where the view of the food looks marvelous and inviting, but after one bite, and the look at one's hands and napkin -- greasy oil was everywhere. Too bad, as the fish was plentiful and the coating looked perfect, but it was an entire grease pit. Their 7 pork rib dinner was the star of our show. We ordered the ribs with the BBQ sauce on the side. We're glad we did -- the succulent, meaty ribs themselves were perfectly grilled with a light outside searing, while the inside meat was so tender, it almost fell off the bone. I have been coming to Main Street Grill for over a decade, and it has become a tradition to come here for a meal, at least once during my stay in Cambria. My go-to order, without fail, is The Pig: a hefty (somewhat sloppy) pulled-pork sandwich, on top of a heavily-buttered French roll. That said, I had to get it again on my first night in town. We also decided to tack on some pork ribs (7 pieces), which also came with baked beans and garlic bread. Called in to place our order, picked it up within 10 minutes, and we were back in our hotel to enjoy the spoils. The Pig looks a bit smaller than what it used to be (maybe it's just my imagination?), but it was still stacked with piles of pulled pork. Unfortunately, the meat was a tad dry, so I had to use the sweet BBQ sauce (a bit too sweet for my taste) to moisten it. Did the trick! The ribs were smoky and slightly sweet-- they weren't falling-off-the-bone tender, but they were tasty. The garlic bread was actually the highlight of the platter: sinfully buttery with fragrant garlic and incredibly crispy. It was almost too decadent, but paired with the baked beans cut the intensity down. Total came out to $26, which is super affordable given the portion sizes. While I think the meats are sadly a tad too dry, it's the price and the nostalgia that'll make me come back again, the next time I'm in Cambria! read more
