I would like to recommend Main Street Shell to anyone looking for honest mechanical work at a fair price. Jeff Gould is the General Manager and I find him to be honest, competent, and fair. My family had been using Mr. Gould for more than twenty five years at another repair shop in Falls Church. We moved to Fairfax and were still going back to Falls Church for auto work when we saw Mr. Gould at Main Street Shell. While we were not at all unhappy with the shop in Falls Chuch it is better to have a local repair shop. We were always happy with the work done in Mr. Gould's shop. An estimate was alway provided and very seldom was the the final price more than the estimate. I was always happy with the list of possible upcoming repairs with approximate prices so we could plan. In one extreme situation where our daughter paid for a used car appraisal by one of those companies that travel to the location of the car. Mr. Gould testified in court to the other companies incompetence after making the repairs which should have been not been needed had the other company done their job. Mr. Gould did this on his own time and expense. They are not the least expensive shop in town. However, they stand behind their work. They install top of the line equipment. They have let me know up front that in some cases tire and batteries can be purchased at the national chains cheaper. I however choose to have them do all my repair work because in the long run good work at a fair price with good equipment is less expensive. The G Family read more

This is a dishonest shop run by a crazy person. I went to Main Street Shell today to get an oil change. When I dropped off the car, it had a full tank of gas and when I picked it up, it had under 3/4th of tank. I went back in ask them why they used so much of my gas. Their mechanic verified that I had 3/4th of a tank, but they said they didn't do it and there was nothing they could do. I asked if it was possible that gas was leaking from the car and manager in the back started screaming that I was accusing him of siphoning gas from the car, which I didn't not. He then started screaming at me that he ran an honest shop, which he doesn't. I thought he was going to come out and fight me. I realized that these people are thieves and there no point in arguing with them, but I kind of regret not staying to see if the old man wanted to fight me, so I could have whipped his ass. Pros: If you are looking for some training for your next MMA match, I am sure the manager will happily oblige you. Cons: It's a dishonest shop with no qualms about robbing you blind. With pleasure I can recommend this service station. I have been treated with respect for seeking advice or clarification to any and all repair's for the past 30 years. I began using services in Falls Church at the Loehmans Texaco, then it became Shell and have trusted Mr. Gould with 5 different automobiles. I have always felt that you get what you pay for and never have I felt better or safer in my cars. I have told everyone I know to use all the facilities where other staff members, who over the years were associated with Jeff Gould, are now. I have used three locations and must admit, as a woman I appreciate all the education I have been given to know my car better. I would never buy a car (used or new)without Mr. Goulds inspection and recomendation it is well worth the fee, the dealership did the work, then Mr Gould verified and my used 97 van is still going strong! I came to see these folks with transmission trouble (2nd gear was slipping) I was told I needed a rebuilt transmission. It would run 3800.00 I checked around and was able to get it done for 2000.00 at Hi-Tech transmissions.. Also a price was given to me for a timing belt replacement of 1600.00 if not previously done. Well, I had another place look at it and they told me the belt was fine...but if I did need to get it replaced it would run around 700.00. I've had these folks (Main street shell) do a lot of work on my cars before and they've done a great job. Their staff is helpful and friendly . 1 Sept 2015 After talking with Jeff the owner, we got things sorted out. The prices I was quoted were for a different engine/transmission. NEVER go to the Shell station on Main Street in Reisterstown. They are the kings of rip-off. They will take your reward points and then the pump will say it can't accept them. If you go inside, they wipe the points and you have to start all over again. The loser behind the counter tonight said, AGAIN, that he couldn't do anything about it. Mainly because he's lazy. I told him I would never be back there and he told me "good. Don't ever come back here again." So I want to make sure everyone knows what a rip-off they are and how they treat customers. Of all the worst experiences I have had in retail establishments, ALL of them have been at this particular gas station. Coincidence? I don't think so. I've been taking five cars to this station for safety and emission control inspections for over 10 years now... never had a problem with their professionalism. One of our cars is 14 years old, and doesn't always pass, but the technicians here are reasonable and honest about whatever the problems are. The manager is courteous, the waiting room is comfortable, and the bathroom is spacious and always clean. Service is always timely, too. In addition, they mail out reminders when inspection is due, with discount coupons. I have no complaints, I very much appreciate Main Street Shell. read more

On my way to work yesterday morning I started to hear a clunk around my front right tire. I suspected a damaged CV joint. I drove straight to Main Street Shell, explained the problem. I had to run to the bank that morning, so one of the guys drove me to the bank while a mechanic road tested my car. By the time we got back from the bank, the mechanic had already discovered it was not a CV joint but a screw lodged in my tire. They fixed it in 15 minutes and I was back on my way to work. Jeff and his team are the best! I've been going to Main Street Shell for a while and every time I have received the very best service. They take the time to really look at your vehicle and let you know what it will take. A couple of times I was sure I knew what was wrong and after they looked at my car they told me I didn't need to replace the items that I thought I needed to. Quoted inaccurate and unnecessary repairs for a state inspection in what one can only assume is an attempt to make more money and bend the customer over. Won't even give them my gasoline business anymore even though they're closest to my home. Learn froom this and don't have the headache I did. read more

I agree with the non pleased with inspection... second time i have inspection here and both time i was passed in front by another car that the mechanic say had a reservation...:/ reservation? Is that a restaurant? I will continue go there but i will ask about the reservation policy. Overall a very nice well maintained shop. read more

Went there today for a state and emissions inspection and when I showed up at about 9:15am I was the only car there.The inspector took my car and did both inspections and had it out by about 10am. What a great place to get your state and emissions done at. read more
