So many rave reviews about this restaurant being on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. We had to find out what they hype was and make our own decision. The hubby ordered the Steak and Eggs. $20. Paper thin steak lacking any seasoning. Unseasoned eggs and flavorless home potatoes. Salt and Pepper didn't help, nor did the A1 steak sauce. Disappointing. I had the Lobster Pie. $35. Other reviews had burnt bread crumbs and some gelatinous bread butter smear. Happily, mine was not this way. Lobster pie was essentially baked shrimp with the buttery crumb topping. It was good. The carrots were delicious. Baked potato was a fluffy potato. I will probably make this at home, but no need to pay $35 for this. Service was good. Drinks were rarely empty. The restaurant was busy full of patrons. It was noisy as it was busy and hectic. We waited about 30 min to be seated on a weekday during the off season. Would we come back? Probably not. read more

I've been coming here for untold years. The last time was just a few months ago. Excellent breakfast place that has outstanding lunches as well. It's always busy, which is a good sign, although my wait has never been more than twenty minutes, but usually less than ten, if I do have to wait at all. The food is tasty with generous portions and a staff that's always happy to see you drop by. A great old fashioned place with a charm all its own. It's cozy inside, warm in the winter, comfortable in the summer. There's nice little gift shop attached next door to browse around while you wait or after you're done. The french toasts were good. The almond toast was delicious, but it didn't seem cooked enough. The Florentine was really good, as was the biscuits and gravy. My daughter has the breakfast burrito. She wanted some spice, and it didn't seem like the onions and peppers were cooked with the eggs. they were instead, just added in. The home fries could have been crunchier (is that a word?). We were so impressed with the Maine diner! From the owner to our waitress, everyone was just warm and welcoming. After we were seated, we all said the same thing: Aces high! One pancake, One Egg and breakfast meat. My Brother in law orders Deuces Wild which is Two pancakes, two eggs and two breakfast meats. IMHO, it was a lot of food. I have to point out, these pancakes are made with fresh Maine blueberries. It was just a pleasure to enjoy these item created with local ingredients. Those pancakes warmed my heart. Service was slow. We sat for a bit before our drinks were taken. It seemed a little scattered. Interestingly enough the table next to us who was seated after us was offered a biscuit while they waited. When my food was delivered it was missing the cornbread and had to ask for it. The soup was watery but contained a lot of flavor and seafood. I would definitely enjoy having this on a fall or winter day. The lobster macaroni and cheese was just ok. We are also ones not to complain realizing restaurants may just have a bad day once in a while, but this morning's breakfast was a disappointment. Maybe that is how it is suppose to be made? I am not sure as this was my first time. -The lobster roll is standard, this is not a bad thing. I mean if you like a plain straight up lobster roll or never had one, this place is good and the price is good too (11/2022 pricing). But if you made them at home or have been to some hole in a wall near a dock, you probably had better. Overall worth the hype,I look forward to returning. I will probably order a ahead again as the wait was 90 minutes in the late fall. I skipped the famous lobster pie because the reviews were mixed and the pics did not look good. Undoubtedly the best I've ever had and I've done a fair amount of research! Already looking into how I can recreate it from home. Standard diner fair and then all the Maine seafood your heart could desire. The menu is large and we probably could have eaten here every meal of the trip and still have options, but I'd have a bowl of the chowder every time. My only two small qualms and I don't let this affect the rating because I would 100% go back and do it again are that in a perfect world my chowder would've been a little more hot (it wasn't just me I saw others send it back but didn't wanna go that route) and when you order it to go and pay for a bowl it would be bigger than a cup. It's a traditional diner with booths and counter service, so that part is really cool. We ordered hot dog kids meals for the kids ($7). My husband liked it. I think it was burnt, the bread crumbs were burnt and the whole Thing just tasted overpowering of a burnt dish. The meal we got came with soup, squash, fries, a drink( we got root beer in Maine fashion), lobster bake, and pie for $45. We also read that the fried clams for food here too so we're ordered a side of fried clams($30). They were really very good, though I would have preferred about a half order as half a pint is quite a bit. The seafood chowder was absolutely incredible, and the shining star of the place. If I came back, I would just get a bowl of the seafood chowder and pie. Lastly, we had blueberry pie with ice cream. O.M.G. This is probably not even the best blueberry pie in Maine. We ended up here because it was the only place open on this off-season Monday. So it was packed and there was a slight wait. No problem though; you get a beeper to let you know when your table is ready. After less than 10 minutes we were seated. Time passed quickly as we studied the photos customers sent showing themselves in faraway places - including one from Antarctica with penguins! I ordered the lobster club with potato salad side - and a pickle. Price: reasonable given the portion size and ridiculous lobster prices lately. There was quite a bit of lobster actually, a good mix of claw meat, tail, and whatever the other parts are called. And of course: bacon because it's a club sandwich. Plenty of that too - and it really is a good combination. Strangely the sandwich was not served whole but cut into quarters and held together with toothpicks. Silly but if that's the way they like to do it, fine. I could have done without the third bread slice in the middle though. It was actually too much so I removed it. Potato salad was among the best, with medium size potato pieces and not overcooked, dressed just right with not too much mayonnaise. The pickle was medium sour and just slightly too mushy. DW got a lobster roll with fries. We both agreed that the lobster itself seemed less flavorful than normal. I don't blame the restaurant but the lobsters - maybe not the best season? Server was friendly and efficient. Everything was fast but we did not feel rushed. From being seated to getting our food took maybe 5 minutes. And a similar amount of time to finish up and pay. So a good choice for a lunch break if you don't want to give up too much of a nice day staying indoors.
