After a mediocre breakfast and poor service at the breakfast restaurant at our hotel, we decided to try someplace else and were excited to find someplace right on the beach in the Splash Cafe! And better still, there wasn't a wait! The food was and service were fine... a step up from the previous day... but our overall experience was fantastic due to location. They have booze as well and I'm still kicking myself for not ordering a Bloody Mary, haha. We're staying in the Norsemen and in our second day we wanted to cut down on the driving and just enjoy the beach and ocean after a day of sight seeing. The food was good and what you'd expect from a seashore spot. We had our fill of fried seafood from other places, and just wanted to have something reliable. Service was fabulous, and quick! I have been going to Splash for easily 25 years as my aunt has owned a cottage in Ogunquit, ME since 1987. It is one of the few spots in Ogunquit with a traditional bar and certainly one of the very few with a view of the ocean. It's very touristy since it sits right on Ogunquit Beach so they seem to never have drink or food specials (at least price wise) because they probably don't have to. I like to go for a beer and maybe a bowl of chowder and look out at the ocean. If you in Ogunquit you need to swing by! read more

At lunch we were excited to find a restaurant so conveniently located by the beach. We figured the lobster roll was a safe choice as we are in Maine afterall. Sadly we were super disappointed. It was an expensive lobster roll yet was nothing more than a boiled lobster with no sauce served in a hot dog bun. I literally wanted to either throw up or cry. I'm between a 3 and a 4 here since the food is basic but decent. We stopped here after a day in the beach to share some appetizers before a walk and dinner. We ordered onion rings, sweet potato fries, and fried pickles. The fried pickles were thinly sliced and battered which I liked as I've had fried pickles which were overly battered and greasy. These ones had just enough batter that the taste of the pickles shone through. The onion rings also had just the right amount of batter so you could actually taste the onion. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the side. My friend and I also split a pitcher of Belfast Bay Lobster Ale which was $19 but could split four ways so pretty reasonable. I'd visit again if I were really in need of a snack as some of the other customers' fish dishes looked pretty tasty. The decor inside isn't great so I'd try to sit outside and get the beach view if possible. read more

We've been going here for years (like every day of our vacation every year) and we were so happy to find they stayed open after COVID but honestly have no idea what happened when we got our food. We ordered two lobster rolls (and at $51 you want them to be amazing) but they had very little lobster and no mayo on them. When we asked our waiter if we could get some mayo she said it was under the lettuce and sure enough it was. We were shocked. It was the most bizarre lobster rolls we've ever had. We also needed some more mayonnaise as the roll soaked up most of it. The meat on my roll was very chewy and almost undercooked. We don't know what happened. It used to be such a great mid day breach break and now it's really gone down hill. read more

Wow, went here for both breakfast and lunch (it is attached to The Norseman resort). Breakfast was basic eggs and such, no frills but good. But lunch was in another league. I had a clam strip roll that was incredible! Hot, lightly fried clam strips in a buttered grilled roll. Fries were crisp and fresh. For the price, this was a bargain as they were real, fresh clam strips and a heaping portion to boot. Can't wait to go back! read more

We went to Splash restaurant on our last trip to Ogunquit in 2017. The proximity to the beach was awesome. For our most recent trip, the hours had changed due to COVID. My wife also had to wait in a line fir 20 minutes and another 30 minutes to get food. The fish tacos weren't as good as I remembered from my last trip. Wow ... we have walked by this place so many times without stopping because it looked like a tourist trap. Usually places that sell soft serve in one window and have plastic tables and chairs with sit down service on the other side aren't worth the gamble. However, one sunny day we wanted to sit and people watch ON the beach and decided to grab lunch here instead. The view from the tables against the rail is great ... you can see the waves and the sand and watch the people walking onto the beach, which is great entertainment. The food was actually damn good! I was surprised. I ordered fried clams and the girl had a salad with salmon. While it wasn't the best fried clam dinner I have ever had ... I have to admit that I enjoyed it and the prices were very, very reasonable. (as in, one of the cheaper places we went to in Ogunquit) The drinks were a bit weak. We had Pina Coladas and after the second one realized that we could keep going at $10 a pop and not catch a buzz after 3 or 4. Also, the drinks weren't frozen ... it's weird to drink a Pina Colada on the beach and have it be lukewarm mix with a few ice cubes in it. My girl has a food allergy, though and the waitress couldn't be more helpful in making sure that her meal was not contaminated. Honestly, this was a place we just spur of the moment decided to stop into and it ended up being one of the most fun meals of our trip. It's kind of 'Jersey Shore-ish' in a blue collar sort of way ... but the casual no-frills atmosphere was fine because it is the only restaurant almost ON the beach. The only thing that would make it better is if it wasn't so dark inside ... even sitting right against the rail, it felt like eating in a garage. Absolutely terrible experience. My friend and I just dined here and really enjoyed the first part of our meal - steamers, cocktails, and a great view. We had a sweet server, who was replaced by a wretched woman midmeal. Our new server copped an attitude from the start. When my friend ordered a second greyhound, she replied "we don't have those." A vodka and grapefruit was fine to order, however. My lobster roll had an overpowering bleach smell. I thought it was just in my head and tried to politely eat it, but my friend could smell it across the table. She asked the server to take it back to the kitchen and get me another. The server huffed off, and returned a few minutes later to throw my same bleach-reeking roll in front of me. She claimed the kitchen had all smelled it and not found anything wrong. (gross, how many noses were in my food?). My friend nicely suggested that maybe some bleach-based cleaning product might have gotten mixed in, and maybe they'd want to check that before serving it to anyone else. The server then stormed off and came back with the manager, who claimed that there were no bleach containing products on site. Umm, gross. My friend and I have both worked in restaurants for years, and I'd hate to see the condition of that kitchen with no bleach! The manager refused to comp the lobster roll because "nothing's wrong." Nice customer service. There are so many good things about Splash. The location is prime. Right on the beach. I always have lunch here. Nicki, who bartends on Wed-Fri, is awesome and makes great drinks. Plus, she is really nice. Everything I ever ordered there was surprisingly REALLY good for just a little joint. Their tuna is great, very good lobster rolls. I like their Onion Rings, their Fish Sandwich, Steamers...and believe it or not, I had an awesome grilled ham & cheese there also. We stayed at the Norseman Resort and ordered the breakfast at Splash. They open at 7am which is great for early risers, I hade the Maine Blueberry pancakes and the cold brew. The food was excellent, the staff seemed happy to see their first customer and we could not be happier. read more

We've had good and bad experiences here over the years. The steamers have been mostly good. Breakfast is ok but the home fries need help. The service today was paralyzingly slow. It took 45 minutes to get a breakfast sandwich and a drink. The hostess was not friendly. There were empty tables but they were all flustered as if there was a waiting line. We've vacationed in Ogunquit every September for many years. Every time we visit we eat lunch at Splash nearly every day. The food is not exceptional but it's good and appropriate for the type of place this is. It's served on paper plates. Mixed drinks are usually pretty good and they usually have some nice local beers on tap. What makes Splash so special is the service and location. The servers, particularly April and Candy (who remember us from year to year!) take such good care of us whenever we're there that all seems right in the world. Seriously, this is how we want to feel when we're on vacation! Sitting at the edge of the ocean, sipping on a nice drink and having some tasty food makes us happy. Could we get better food at one of the restaurants up on Route 1? Who cares? Splash isn't cheap, though of course it depends on what you eat and drink. Somehow lunch always runs us $60-$80. But nobody said happiness was cheap. In fact I remember they said "money can't buy happiness" which I don't even think is true. I don't know what Splash is like during the busy summer months and I don't want to find out. That's why we visit in September. :) read more

We ordered takeout from Splash daily the week of the 4th and sat on the beach and ate. My son loves their chicken fingers and we loved their Bloody Mary's and Gin and Tonics. However, the service my friends & I experienced this past weekend was absolutely terrible and the reason I'm only giving it 2 stars. We went to Splash for lunch last Saturday afternoon. We had to wait for about a half hour, which wasn't a surprise since it was lunch time at a restaurant with a deck overlooking the beach. Walking through the main dining area and onto the deck, I wondered why the wait was so long. The inside was pretty much empty, and the deck had about five open tables. Once we were seated, we waited patiently for about 20 minutes for someone to come take our drink orders. Again, this wait was odd to me since there were so many open tables on the deck. Finally, my friend went to notify the hostess we hadn't been helped yet. The waitress made her way over, barely mumbled an apology and took our drink orders. We asked for a round of waters, along with some cocktails. Our cocktails came another 15 minutes later with no waters. When the waitress took our lunch orders, we asked again for a round of waters which never came. It took about 20 minutes for our lunch to come out and when it did, we again asked for a round of waters and finally got them. I have to say I was underwhelmed with the food, which was a disappointment considering the long wait time. How long does it really take to fry fish?? Two of us ordered the fish tacos which were a little on the dry side and had to add more tartar sauce. Another friend in our party ordered the clam cakes which were very good. Other friends ordered fried clams that were just so-so. Splash was very generous with the amount of fries they gave us, but the amount of seafood was skimpy. However, our drinks were very good. Three of us split a beach bucket Raspberry Popsicle Margarita and another friend got a Pina Colada that was tasty. After we finished, we waited another 15-20 minutes for the waitress to bring us the check. We were also really disappointed to find out we didn't get to keep the beach bucket that our margarita came in. Anywhere else that has fun drinks like this in a unique container, you usually get to keep. I may consider giving Splash a second chance, given that the view on the deck is great and their drinks are delicious, but this experience definitely put a bad taste in my mouth. read more
