The wait staff is 100% more preoccupied hanging out than doing their jobs. I had chase them down to get anything we needed. My waiter was nice, but didn't bother checking our table. Great spot! Servers are really friendly. Food is delicious, only complaint I have w that is some of the "extra" charges. I order some dip and crackers but when we ran out of crackers and asked for more it was $2 or $3 extra charge. Not a huge deal but we weren't't told that when we asked the extra crackers. Mainland Container has all the right elements for a good local kitchen & bar, one we enjoyed recently one Saturday night. We chose to sit at the bar, but there were many other options of indoor seating and an outdoor patio that looks fabulous. The staff was very friendly here! I always appreciate a bartender (thanks Megan) that takes the time to say hi and introduce themselves, plus other staff were just as nice. The beer menu included a decent variety of local (Coast, Chs Fementory) and regional beers, something for everyone. We then enjoyed some good bar food including hushpuppies, Boa buns, fried shrimp platter, and the Container burger. The winner were the steamed buns - soft buns filled with Chinese bbq pork belly, pickled carrot, & daikon slaw. So delicious! The night was busy with many customers, and the service was spot on. They were just planning to have a live band start to perform as we finished. But we left full, and happy to know that we would return here again. read more

The menu is eclectic, low country, upscale beach fare. I can see us coming here after Sundays at the beach. Sure bets are the Hushpuppies made with Geechie Boy Mill cornmeal, Chinese BBQ Pork Belly Steamed Buns (Yes!), delicious Burgers, Fried Local Shrimp Platter with Duck Fat Fried Tots and Slaw. Props for pouring local beer on tap and offering Holy City Distillery whiskey. They pride themselves on their hospitality, and they should, it's fantastic! I'm always looking for new restaurants to try, and Mainland Container Co has been on my list for a while. I've driven by many times, and it packs a good crowd, but tonight my husband and I lucked out on an unusually slow Friday evening and scored a couple bar seats outside. We started off with the hush puppies and OMG. They were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. To make them even more perfect, there was a puddle of warm honey at the bottom of the bowl for dipping. Let's face it, they are more like donuts than an appetizer. Under no circumstance should you NOT order them. I ordered fish tacos (tonight was blackened Mahi Mahi), and they were some of the best tacos I've had. My husband laughed after I took the first bite because my face said it all. SO GOOD! My husband ordered a burger, medium well, and it was perfectly cooked. It had a true grilled flavor. To top it all off, the girls at the bar were attentive, friendly, and good conversationalists. We found a new local favorite in MTP! read more

Well I have been here numerous times since it opened. I love the outdoor seating around the Container. I have had just about everything in the menu. My overall impression is good. I love the fried shrimp they are done just right and very tasty. The Charleston Hot Chicken sandwich is a winner as well. I just wish it had more of bite to it. None the less you can't go wrong with it. One working caution, they are still working out the kinks with service. I wish them the best and look forward to sitting outside this fall. If I'd eaten at Red Lobster, I think it would have been better, because at least the biscuits are good. The service was really bad. We got there for our reservation at 7 and the table wasn't set until 7:15. No one asked us about drinks by that time either, so we had to go to the bar. They have a sign on the table that says not to get drinks at the bar...I guess it happens a lot because the service is so bad, hence the sign. The bartender was super nice, I'll say. But, our server took a full 30 minutes figuring out our checks. Our dinner took 3 hours. The food was generally mediocre at best, and some of it was really bad. The onion and bacon dip and hushpuppies were tasty. The wings were ok, but really small and nothing special. I mean seriously, were they quail wings??? The double container burger sounds awesome (with pork belly or something) but is TERRIBLE and overcooked. I mean...really bad. I got the regular burger and it was fine, and they did cook it to order, just how I asked for it. It was just fine. All in all, I wouldn't come here again for dinner. I would come for drinks outside on their cool porch and get a snack of hushpuppies or something, and that would be just fine. Ohhhh...the Duck Fat tots with cheese and whatever (the Full Container) is SO underwhelming. Was super stoked about it but the cheese was Yellow plastic and really not worth the money or the empty crappy calories. read more

We came one Friday and i absolutely loved the fried fish special. The fish was fried perfectly with great flavor. They had steak fries as well which were delicious. We've been back twice to try and get the same meal but hasn't quite hit the spot since. Once was overcooked. Second was cooked well but they got rid of steak fries and went to shoestring which i wouldn't mind if they weren't overcooked. Wish they could be consistent with frying and go back to steak fries. How many times we've passed this place on the way to Sullivan's on Ben Sawyer Blvd wondering if a new place would open. The wait is over! I would describe it as a no frills neighborhood bar. The outside area has a stage for musicians, which will be fantastic once the weather breaks. We tried this after friends recommended and can't wait to go back. Casey, the bartender is attentive and provided us with a lot of info and good recommendations! Thursday night happens to be oyster night! $7 for 2 buckets (bogo) and the serving was huge! We started with a HH portion of hot wings. The sauce was great, perfect amount of heat and crispy. You have to ask for blue cheese though, it comes with carrots and celery only. Next we got burgers, one of each. Omg yum! Mainland was straight forward 1/2 pound burger cooked to temperature with American cheese and lto on brioche. The double container is 2 1/4 pound burgers, thin but cooked still pink and juicy with beer cheese sauce (omg yum- same sauce that goes on loaded duck tots) bacon jam and onions on a potato bun. The bun did not hold together well, but there's a lot going on with this burger--so be prepared for a messy sandwich. Served with duck tots or a salad. Tough decision, tots!! There are 3 areas to sit, an outside patio with limited food options but a very charming atmosphere, inside or an outdoor area off of the main dining/bar area. I had the shrimp tacos which were delicious and well seasoned. You only get 2 and they are small so you may need to order a side to fill you up. I saw this place when scrolling through Yelp and was surprised to find out it has been open for two years! It's a cute little place. The bar itself in inside a shipping container with TVs. There are plenty of tables and chairs all spread out around the bar. There is even two fire pits! We went on a day that was a little chilly and very quickly the manager brought out a heater for us. The staff is so nice. We brought our dog to brunch with us and they even had a little dog menu I read there is music in the summertime so I am eager to return then to see what that is all about. They were totally burned black and sitting in a bowl of grease. The waitress was not very friendly and a lot bigger than me so I tore the hush puppies in half and ate the insides. The manager can't explain to me what happened other than the bartender must have typed in the next check number under mine! Seems like an attempted theft if you ask me. Hidden gem in Mt Pleasant. Great food and great service. We got the summer salad, which was fresh and delightful. We also got the Avacado toast, fish tacos, veggie plate, and a grouper special with mushroom risotto. Cute outdoor and bar area.
