In September 2024, Z Plumbers installed a Navien tankless water heater in our home. What followed…read morewas 16 months of ignition failures, cold showers, and a crash course in troubleshooting a device they clearly had no business installing. The unit failed to ignite almost immediately. Their first diagnosis: not enough gas. I had just upgraded my gas meter with DTE, so that didn't sound right - but let's investigate. Their fix months later? Install a pressure regulator because too much gas was coming in. Then in September 2025, they replaced the control valve and other components. Still broken. By December 2025 they removed the very regulator they had installed earlier that year. I honestly started to wonder if they were just throwing parts at it to see what stuck. The real highlight? Every time my wife tried to shower, I had to reset the unit. It got so predictable that I eventually installed a camera and a home automation system so I could reset it remotely. After 5 visits, hours on the phone with Navian, and 5 failed attempts to resolve the issue, my tankless heater "upgrade" became an IoT project, a topic of frequent dinner discussions, and source for frequent profanity-laced screams as my wife was hit with freezing water in the shower. Don't get me wrong; they tried. It wasn't a lack of effort, rather a lack of know-how. In March 2026, a different plumber came out for an unrelated issue. I mentioned the water heater problem. His Navien specialist came out a few weeks later and -- I want to be precise here -- identified five major installation errors in under 60 seconds. Armed with this additional information, I gave Z Plumbers a final opportunity to make it right. They never responded. I paid the new plumber to fix the mess, and the unit has worked flawlessly ever since. I can run multiple faucets simultaneously with no loss of volume or temperature. It's like having a new water heater -- because effectively, we do. Bottom line: Z Plumbers may be fine for standard plumbing work, but tankless water heaters are a different animal. Based on everything I experienced, I'm convinced they do not have the training or expertise to properly install or troubleshoot these systems. Do yourself a favor and find a better installer. You'll thank yourself every morning.

I had the house built in 1988 and a the furnace the builder installed needed to be replaced 10 years later. My daughter uses them as well now. They are responsive. Their service techs are also very polite, respectful, knowledgeable and professional. I recently tried to clean my drier duct and got the cleaning brush stuck in the duct and found it difficult to find someone who would remove the duct to clear it. So I called McQuade's and the next morning they had a tech remove the duct and clear it. They also cleaned it. I also found their prices to be reasonable.

I will not recommend their store or plumbing services to anyone. My 93 year old mother-in-law called them out to resolve a slow draining tub issue. They came out 3 times and never fixed the trouble. Each time telling her it was all set. I went to her house today and witnessed the trouble myself. The tub is filling and draining slow, just as she described. I stopped by Trevarrow and explained the situation and asked if they could come out and help resolve the issue. I was not asking for anything for free. Just trying to schedule them out to help resolve the issue. I was in no way angry. There was no reason for me to be since I wasn't really involved in the previous service calls. My mother-in-law is 93 and very hard of hearing. I just assumed the difficulty communicating was the issue. They told me they would not come back out to her house and that I should call another plumber. After 25+ years of supporting this business, I'm done. I will not return to this store for any reason and will recommend to everyone I know to give their business to someone else. If they can't help out a 93 year old whose family supported their business for decades, they don't deserve my continued support. It's a shame, but that's that way it is.

They were hired for all air vents and a dryer cleanout on a 2,000 sq. ft. house, and particularly a bad smell coming in the laundry room. On the day of the cleaning Chris and Lee arrived during the agreed upon time window. I showed Lee around the house to the various vents and asked questions about the places I couldn't fully clear a path to the vent. The house's vents hadn't been cleaned during the time I've owned the place so it needed significant work. The same applied for the dryer. The cleaning took roughly 3 hours. I think they did a good job and made sure to take care of cleaning any messes their work caused. The one exception was the dryer blow-out which was left under the outdoor vent. My single gripe was that the final price ended up $100 over the original quote without discussion. However, it was clear that they had a lot of work to do that couldn't have been known without taking a look at things.

The first thing I noticed right away is they actually answer their phone when they call so that was already a plus for me. I was able to schedule an estimate quickly and get someone out to help us address our main issue which was our kitchen not venting correctly, in addition to a fireplace that we would soon need because of the cold Detroit winter. As a new homeowner, we did want to make sure that the fireplaces were in good working condition before we actually started using them so we requested a estimate on what the service and maintenance could potentially be for the fireplaces that we had in our house and any recommendations that they would have. The process was very straightforward. They easily walked us through the quote and what was needed and why, in addition to what the current condition of the fireplace was in to what would need to be done and how it would fix the problem as well as what comes after the service what could be expected what they would be able to help us with should we come across any hiccups after the fireplace maintenance and what warranties came with the products that we purchased. We purchased dampers some gas fire logs, and had our fireplaces updated so that we could use them last winter. From there coming this winter, we assumed that we would have to have the fireplaces serviced again because it was a new year, though we only had a handful of fires in the living room fireplace they scheduled the appointment. They were prompt and scheduling, as well as coming out for service and transparent enough to say we haven't used our fireplace enough to fully warrant a cleaning. This was refreshing to see this type of honesty from a contractor. Then we ended up having an issue with the smoke coming into our house on our serviced fireplace. They were able to address solve an analyze, the reasons why the smoke was coming in to our living room, though everything looked up-to-date and ready to go. It was next level problem-solving skills that they would rarely run across because of the unique fireplace that we had in our Historic house. It was very appreciated that they did not just give up and ask us to spend a gazillion dollars to throw money at a problem. After looking at all of the toilets, the Detroit Furnace plumber stated that there was not an issue. Before the plumber left, I was able to replicate the issue. The plumber then stated that it could be caused by a number of things, all of which were not covered by DTE's Home Protection Plan, however for $375 he would start by snaking out one of the toilets to see if that was the problem. Believing this to be a scam, i.e. the plumber stated that he wasn't sure of the problem but would charge $375 to initiate a possible solution, I refused. Due to my extreme dissatisfaction with Detroit Furnace, the Home Protection Plan honored my request and sent out another company. The plumber from the other company was professional and very knowledgeable. This other plumber was able to immediately diagnose and resolve the issue, which was covered by my plan.

The owner of this business came promptly to my home to assess the problem, and then sent his "workers" to help me. His workers came three (3) days in a row and all they accomplished was tearing my house down. I had to call another company who promptly fixed the problem. There was no protection for my home. The auger ate up the bottom of my walls, there were no tarps used on my carpet and floors; and one of the workers used the walls throughout my home to steady himself. Dirt and oil all on my walls. I noticed on the last night they were when I erroneously thought that the problem was corrected, that there were smudges on my bedroom wall. I explained to the owner of the business (Malik Attles) that there was no reason for this gentleman to be in my bedroom. This being the case, I knew I needed to be on alert. Fast forward a few days later, two gold bracelets are missing, that I know of. May be more items missing. I called the owner after realizing the theft, and it became obvious that he had blocked me, and I had to use another number. Then, all that he could say is that, "he didn't know what to say." When a company comes into a customer's home it is incumbent on the owner to send credible, healthy, non-rogue individuals. I'm putting in my police report and I advise everyone to steer clear of this contractor.
