UghGhhghhHhh this fried chicken and pancake combo. Why am I writing this review at 2am.... now I'm just craving this. Probably my personal favorite fried chicken + pancake (or waffle) combo. The syrup it comes with is so thick and good. I don't even like syrup but I like this syrup. Even without the syrup they give you on the side, the light syrup/honey/agave that comes on the dish itself is so good. The chicken is soooo juicy and tender and perfectly fried - the right amount of crunch to the fluffiness of the pancakes. I had half of this plate for brunch and my boyfriend finished the other half for dinner.. it's HUGE PORTIONS. We also got 4 pickles for $11. Keep in mind it's 4 different types of pickles but they give you like 5-6 of each kind, so you have a whole large platter of like 20-25 pickles total. We thought it was just gonna be like 2 each. Had big plans to go to Jacob's Pickles a few weekends ago, but when we got there we found out that they were closed for renovations due to a fire but that their sister restaurant Maison Pickle was serving brunch. This ended up being a fine turn of events for us, as Maison Pickle is a gorgeous space and we probably would have never ended up there otherwise. Maison Pickle is typically a bit more upscale, known for their French dips and high-end cocktails. It was a great setting for brunch as well though, with lots of sunlight flooding in and plenty of table seating. Our server was cheerful and hilarious the whole time, giving us plenty of time to pore over the menu after sharing some of her favorite dishes. We couldn't pass up the biscuits, gravy, and eggs - and appreciated the choice of sausage or mushroom gravy. We went with the mushroom and it was so rich and flavorful despite the lack of meat. We also had a fried chicken biscuit sandwich, also delicious. The portions are enormous - like obscenely enormous. As I said, the food is great. The Patty melts and the classic dip sandwiches are very tasty. The Mac and Cheese, Tots options, the egg and French Toast options - so many good things on the menu. They give you a lot of reasons to come back and try something new. For the most part, the service here isn't bad, but it can get slow and indifferent. We came here for Fathers Day, and despite having a reservation we ended up having to wait about 20 mins. Honestly this was totally expected since they were packed, but they might consider implementing a time limit for busy days and ask people to keep meals to 1.5 hours? Regardless we hung out by the bar with drinks and after a little waiting, got a great table right by the windows. For appetisers we got the duck fat frites (which were really more like potato chip form, which was unexpected but still yummy), cocktail shrimp (the sauce is sooo good and has a bit of a twist from the usual sauce I thought), the duck fois gras & pull apart bread and everything was just wonderful... flavourful, unique and delicious Most of us got the classic dip sandwich, which was really savoury and incredible! The meat was perfect and the simplicity of the sandwich was exactly what was needed. Others got the lamb meatballs, the deluxe dip sandwich and the steak frites of which I heard zero complaints lol The desserts looked delicious but as a lactose intolerant I couldn't find anything I could really eat other than the apple pie, but we skipped dessert anyway. I absolutely love this place! Ate here earlier today, and from the minute you walk in, the staff is warm, helpful and accommodating. I got a caprese-salad-style Bloody Mary with homemade bloody mix, fresh mozz balls, baby tomatoes, and a sprig of fresh basil, and it was awesome. Shortly after getting the bloody, we got taken to our main table, where we were greeted by the poutine tots we had ordered at the bar, and they were AMAZING. The 4 potato sized tots come floating in a bubbling sea of cheese and gravy served in a small cast iron pan, and garnished with fresh micro greens. And they taste just as good as they look; hot, fresh, cheesy, salty. Each forkful leaves a cheese string trail from the pan to your plate. I will be getting these every time I come. After we demolished the tots, our main arrived: the fried chicken n' toast. Oh me oh my, someone call for the doctor. This is a BIG plate, 3 huge challah French toasts topped with a generous pile of fried chicken, syrup, and crispy bacon bits. Just amazing. The toast was fluffy, soft, and doughy and the chicken was crispy and hot on the outside, and juicy on the inside. Because Jacob's Pickle is still closed due to the fire, we came here for brunch. Note that they only sell Jacob's Pickle's BRUNCH menu - not dinner. RESERVATIONS - made them through Resy directly through the restaurant (we went accidentally the night before thinking they served Jacob's Pickle dinner but didn't). I'm sure you can make reservations online. ATMOSPHERE: It's actually very large inside. There's a bar area, then a small narrow seating area, then a wide area with high ceilings towards the back and then an upper level with 3 tables and then another counter/bar area. It's very light, open and fun. It feels fresh and new. I've never been to Jacob's Pickle so it's hard to compare the two. We sat upstairs and I enjoyed the view. FOOD: I couldn't quite tell what was different from Maison Pickle's normal menu but I figured the biscuit sandwiches were from Jacob's Pickle. SOUTHERN BISCUIT SANDWICHES - these are different from the biscuit sandwiches because they have fried chicken and come with grits on the side. The chicken, egg, and bacon one (bottom of the list) comes with 2 pieces of biscuit, an egg, a thousand island looking sauce, bacon, shredded Vermont cheese and fried chicken. The grits come in a bucket on the side. The sandwich was decently sized but not HUGE to the point where you can't finish. My husband loved his sandwich, I only tried a little and wasn't that impressed with the biscuit. The Vermont cheddar was very sharp (which I love) and definitely added to the sandwich. Possibly the saving aspect of it. CHICKEN AND PANCAKES - their take on chicken and waffles. Two huge pancakes (you can get plain or banana) and then 2 fried chicken pieces on top. The portion was huge!!!!! French toast was thick and flavorful, the chicken though was the BEST tasting chicken I've had in a while, kinda wish they had just the chicken on the menu!! Mac & cheese- definitely one of the best mac and cheese I had anywhere, it's super creamy and cheesy and perfect, we ordered the "small" portion and it was huge, I can only imagine how big the large portion is. I have been to Jacob's Pickles right shortly before Maison Pickle opened. I enjoyed the food there and had my eye out for Maison Pickles. I finally had my chance to try it the other night. They're both great places but serves completely different food and have a different atmosphere. Unfortunately, Jacob's Pickles is temporarily closed. The only thing both places share is the Mac and Cheese & Duck Fat Fries. The service was amazing, Matt and this other woman that initially greeted us, was great and attentive. They were warm and personable leading me to a great first time experience. Ivan at the bar makes amazing cocktails. My favorite was the gin cocktail with the fresh grapefruit zest, I forgot the name. It was refreshing, zesty, and easy-drinking. For appetizers, I started with the Chicken Liver Toast, Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms and Bone Marrow. The Chicken Liver Toast was not what I had expected it to be. The spread already comes braised, and pre-spread on three pieces of hard toast. It was not creamy and rich enough. It's definitely not one of the best I had and did not wow me at all. I would not recommend getting this if you're a huge chicken liver toast fan. The bone marrow was a great highlight to the meal. The bone is bigger than your normal size, with a wonderful top off of baked clams. I would say there were about a dozen little neck clams. I generally do not prefer breaded clams, but I must say the mixture was a perfect compliment to the fresh clams. Saved the best for last, the Seafood stuffed mushrooms had a real wow factor to it. It was a bite of juicy and savory with a well-blended seafood mixture and hollandaise sauce. I was very full by the next course but I was still very excited for the entree. The Pig Confit was huge, of course, meant to shared between two. The skin of the pig was very well made but some of the hair was still on it around the snout. I had higher expectations of the coconut rice but it was just okay. It was not flavorful enough, on the bland side. The beet sambal honestly ruined this dish for me. My friend Jenny "Don't Call Me Jennifer" L. made me aware of the Pickle chain and how Maison Pickle served as an overflow reservoir for those who couldn't get a table at nearby Jacob's Pickles. But Maison Pickle deserves to stand on its own -- and then some. I had the French onion soup (2nd time in two days) and deluxe roast beef dip, plus oreo cake for dessert. Each was sublime!!! P2P (price to portions ratio) was terrific, and I had cheese and beef falling all over my face, causing alarm to the "I'll have a half portion" types next to me. I wish I had room for the 27 layer cake, though the individual-sized dessert was pretty great. Decor is vastly preferable to Jacob's: music is quieter and ambience is like a 4-star hotel lobby, versus the industrial loft conversion aesthetic of Jacob's Pickle. Our party of 8 arrived at nearly 4pm on a Saturday, so maybe I'm stretching the "brunch" label, but we got our orders in right before they switched to the dinner menu. Good enough! My friend and I shared the following: - Southern BLT: Biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, bacon, a heap of slaw, and fried green tomatoes. There's no way I could have eaten an entire sandwich by myself. In addition to being very large, it was also a bit on the monotonous side. The tomatoes were harder than we would prefer, too, but overall it was solid. - Midnight mac & cheese: Perhaps one of the most decadent mac & cheeses I've ever had. It visually reminded me of noodles in a bowl of sausage gravy, and the taste wasn't far off from it. Your mileage may vary accordingly, but I really enjoyed it! The fried egg and jalapenos were very welcome additions to the mac. - Fried pickles: The beer batter was a good choice! The pickles themselves were rather mild, which again, your mileage may vary on, but we enjoyed them with the aioli served on the side. Nobody needs to consume what I just did at Maison Pickle, but if you do, you're probably going to enjoy it. I've rarely had takeout/delivery experiences in NYC that have been as good as ordering from Maison Pickle. I'm a sucker for a great french dip, and this is by far the best restaurant in NYC to get one. The Deluxe - complete with fondue and crispy onions - is life-changing, reinvention of a classic. It may even be my favorite sandwich in the city. Their shoestring fries are incredible, add the fondue and it's a match made in heaven. However the real star is the pull-apart bread - if you grew up eating parker house rolls, these will be lovely nostalgia trip. The garlic & parmesan variety: don't ask questions, just get them. Most of the food travels well, but the fries may need a quick trip to the oven or air fryer before thorough enjoyment can commence. I will say that their online ordering can be annoying, and sometimes the pull-apart bread is not available. Price wise - this place ain't cheap! It's not outrageously expensive either, but $25 for a sandwich without fries (and a side of fries is $13) makes it not as easily justifiable to order solo. Even a pithy mixed green salad or a half order of fries addition would be nice, but alas, here I am spending another $30-40 on delivery and likely gorging myself like a foie gras goose. Then after about 5 minutes of eating our appetizers a man came over and said they needed to clear our plates for our entrees. So why the one star off if the food and service is so good? My friend and I were going to split the check right down the middle except he got a fresh-squeezed orange juice.
