Was my kids first dental visit as they are 2. I asked for separate appointments so it could be easier as there is one of me and two of them. Reason for visit was my son fell on his gum and I figured just get both of them seen. When being taken back into the office they sat my 2 year olds in seperate chairs at the same time so I couldn't comfort either. Then there was no conversation about why I was there for the children. Just "is fluoride ok?" Then the dental assistant began brushing my son's top teeth/gum where the trauma is. I asked her to stop and had to tell her about it because she didn't even look at his teeth before scrubbing. Or her notes. I ended up walking out due to the lack of organization and level of care. We've been waiting over 3 months for this consult with the oral surgeon. We show up and get told that we don't have an appointment after she looked into it. She said it looks like it's for an oral surgeon consult in rocklin, which I wasn't informed of thought it was in Lincoln. No one told me any different.. and she says which it doesn't make sense because our oral surgeon doesn't come to Lincoln or rocklin so it would have to be in Folsom Super frustrating complete waste of time. Do not use them. Not only were they not kid friendly or easy to set appointments with but after leaving this office they charged me to get my records. A year later they sent me a bill for one of my children stating I did not have coverage (yet my insurance has been contacted and verified at that time both were covered). Our insurance changed and we had to find a new dentist quickly because my daughter developed a toothache. We were able to get a same day appointment at make a smile dental, which was great. We entered the waiting room 15 minutes early as requested for our appointment to be greeted by computer monitors that were alerted for us to check in. A woman came on the screen and took our name, verified no co-pay and told us to have a seat. After sitting for an hour, I approached the screen and asked if we could get an estimate on how much later it would be before we were seen seeing as how we've been waiting for an hour. We were told another 30 minutes. It would have been nice if someone on the computer or in the office told us from the beginning that they were running 90 minutes behind and offered to reschedule instead of letting us sit there for an hour before walking out. read more

My 7 year old son was seen here last week, and we had a very disappointing experience. I will not be returning here, and other potential customers should be made aware! We saw Dr. Rosie Bandala and her hygienist. I never did catch the name of the hygienist. Neither of them had a very pleasant bedside manner and it was to the point that my son and I left there with bad feelings. My son has very bad dental anxiety due to a bad experience he had in the past. I had made this known with the front desk, and she stated she would let the dentist and hygienist know. However, the hygienist that was working on my son was very condescending and abrupt and rather rough (physically and emotionally) with him. He burst into tears during the flossing/cleaning, and she snapped at him and demanded to know WHY he was crying. She repeated herself a couple of times. My son stated that it was hurting. She also snapped at me as well, when I spoke up, and asked her to talk to him more, and explain to him what was being done and why. The experience with Dr. Rosie the dentist was just as disappointing. She came in and did not even introduce herself or greet us; she immediately began looking in his mouth. She advised that he had 4 cavities, one of which needed a crown. She also advised that he needed 4 sealants. (He already had 3 sealants that were put in a couple of years ago.) All this did not sit well with me, as we take him to see a dentist every 6 months, and we heard nothing like this from his previous dentist. This was our first time here at Make a Smile Dental in about 4 years, since our dental insurance seems to change once in a while. We went to a different dentist 6 months ago, whom we loved. We only left because with our new insurance, we were no longer in network with them. So, since I wasn't sure if Dr. Rosie was being honest with me, I decided to return to my son's previous dentist (Rocklin Pediatric Dentistry) for a 2nd opinion. It turned out Dr. Rosie from Make a Smile Dental WAS indeed being DISHONEST. Rocklin Pediatric Dentistry advised that he just had 1 cavity that needed a filling. That was the only work that needed to be done. They even did the x rays for free, because the folks at Make a Smile Dental refused to send over x rays to Rocklin Pediatric dentistry like I asked. Make a Smile dental, you have lost a customer with your dishonest practices and your cold, unfriendly bedside manner! As I was leaving there that day, I advised the front desk that I will not be returning. Another patient's mom that was near us heard me, and spoke up. She also stated that she did not like the way she spoke to my son. read more

I was a loyal customer and have taken my children here for years. Recently our insurance no longer has them as an in network provider and low and behold, they find bills from over a year ago that I know I paid. Now I am having to go through my records to find the payments. This is ridiculous. I have taken my kids her recently and never a mention of old bills. I did not choose to leave this dentist, but am glad that my insurance company has. They must have gotten caught double billing and are now attempting to pass this along to their former customers. I wanted to acknowledge the help and support I received from Dani M. when working through my daughter's dentist appt. I showed up to the appt. and was ready to be seen by the specialist when I received a call from Dani. She explained that the visit would cost upwards of $200 dollars due to my insurance not covering her. What was explained to me in detail was how "Make a Smile" and "Smile Time" are different providers under one roof, think Kaiser. This was a tremendous help as my network showed these dentists in my network, but I did not realize there was two different practices, one for pediatrics, and one for general. I am not new to benefits either, she is my youngest of 3, so I have experience with insurances, but the way Dani broke it down for me was so helpful and useful, it made the process a lot smoother. In addition to this, I was able to stop the appt. before it got stated and schedule another appt then and there while on the phone with her for "Smile Time". She sent me the link to transfer my kids dental records then and there all on my mobile device. Because of this I was able to save $$$ on my visit, reschedule with a general dentist that WAS under my plan, and get my daughter back to school in time for her performance practice, which she was very excited for. This was beyond a joke! We had been searching for a pediatric dentist for our children since they needed some fillings on baby teeth and one an a permanent tooth. We had gotten 3 amazing dentists opinions and they all agreed on the same course of treatment. We went to this place (only because we got insurance through Costco) and we thought it would help save money since we knew what treatment needed to be done. This lady dentist recommended root canals on all of the baby teeth!!!! She said she definitely thought my 4 year olds needed root canals on his, and my daughter only her permanent tooth didn't but all 6 baby teeth needed them! This lady shouldn't be practicing dentistry! This office had garbage bags covering dirty pillows for the kids to sit on as well as garbage bags on the seats! I now know why we go to a high end dental office because you pay for what you get! I would rather pay out of pocket to get a safe treatment plan than ever let them touch my children's teeth! I've given this office more chances than I normally would give anyone especially when it comes to my children. The communication when performing procedures is nonexistent. I realize that a lot of people don't ask many questions anymore, but I do and I want to know what you're doing to my children. After leaving here 2 times in tears because of how I was treated for asking questions I returned one last time to finish my child's treatment plan. This last visit was the final straw for me. They flat out lied to confidently charge me for nitrous which my child didn't end up needing. It was the first time she needed treatment, they assume all kids need it to make the dentists job easier (the dentist actually thanked me for being open to using it, so I take that as making their job easier). My child was a trooper and did not need it. She had the mask on for 10-15 minutes with 70% of that time being oxygen. I wouldn't mind paying if the protocol wasn't what it is. Anything over 20 minutes of nitrous is to be charged for. She used it far a max of 5 minutes because it was more of a nuisance than a help. So before treatment was even started we removed the mask. I've had it with this place. We will not be returning and I will not recommend them to anyone. read more

The receptionist is very unprofessional, takes the time to embarrass you while in the office by using speaker phone, and if she makes a mistake she blames our insurance or others. We used to love the staff, but do not see the awesome dental assistant anymore. We were having a particularly upsetting day as our friends lost their child, and then the receptionist made it that much more awesome. They were suppose to fill cavities, but they never can give us an estimated price so that we can budget accordingly. We have a child with a disability so funds are always a bit tight with his therapy sessions each week, but the receptionist took the time to mock me with a condescending tone when I mentioned that the price seemed a bit too much. Additionally, that particular child needs nitrous, as the previous male dentist that they had yelled at him and we had a hard time getting him back to the dentist again. But they told me they had nitrous scheduled for the wrong child. I am giving them 1 star as zero is not an option, we are never taking our children back their again. read more

I can't give negative stars so I chose 1... I HIGHLY recommend you do NOT taking your children here. We came here and we were told that my daughter (only age 6) needed 6 fillings. The dentist stated one tooth was going to need a baby root canal (on a baby tooth) and possible extraction of the tooth and then put a spacer in where this extraction was going to be done. Also, I was told my daughter has weak enamel and this is why she has so many problems. I was shocked because we take very good care of our kids teeth and she has no rotten teeth and has been going to the dentist since she was one!! When I questioned the dentist she was NOT happy. I told her she could do one of the fillings since we were in the office that day. They were going to put metal in without asking me what I wanted. I had to ask what their plan was. I told them no, I want porcelain as it is her permanent tooth you are putting that on. Again, angry I questioned her. After leaving I decided to get a second opinion. I was told that my daughter has great teeth and needed two small fillings. Basically either they were trying to rip me off because I have great insurance or this dentist has NO clue what she is doing. I am beyond angry that I was about to put my daughter through that. They were going to extract a tooth, put a metal spacer in that she said hooked to her back tooth that would have eventually damaged that tooth and it would have had to be in she said for 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new dentist showed me the xrays went through everything with me and said I have no clue how she told you all of this was going on in your daughters mouth! I plan to file a formal complaint. BE CAREFUL AND QUESTION EVERYTHING! Also, always get a second opinion if things don't sound right. read more
