Horrible experience! Was in there for an hour and nothing got done on my son. They wanted me to pay for the treatment because my insurance didn't cover, I told them it was fine. Then they gave me a sticky note with my insurance number saying I had to call to get assigned to their office. I told them I just wanted to reschedule because I didn't have time for all of that. They told me I couldn't leave without calling because if not the consultation wouldn't cover. Will never come back to this location! Poor treatment. They didn't even know what they were doing! They canceled our appointment with less than 24 hours notice, after we had to move heaven and earth to make this appointment in the first place. They REQUIRE at least 48 hours notice to reschedule or cancel and threaten dropping patients if that requirement is not met. What kind of customer service is that? Horrible. read more

I've only been here a couple of times I was not impressed. The waiting room felt dirty and nasty and when taken back to see the dentist You're taking back to a big ward like setting. There's no sense of privacy, you can clearly hear what the dentist was saying to the other clients. We had 2 appointments for cleanings and checkups. They took the first one back for trays. She went back for cleaning. While that was happening the next patient went back for trays. When she was done they said we switched over to a new system. Because everything didn't pull over to our new system you need to fill out dental and medical history forms. When you go into the system it tells you you have no forms to fill out. At that point they said we have to stop treatment and when the forms are filled out you can come back for another appointment. It seems to me this is something they need to figure out. We left the dentist office with only one patient treated. Seriously disappointed! This office is one of the worst dental offices I've been to, I started taking my children here and we have had nothing but issues every time. The online scheduling never works through the patient portal, I have rescheduled appointments so my kids don't miss school, they cancel the appointments because apparently they aren't available even though the website gives the option to select the date and time. The disconnect between the office and patient portal is ridiculous and they do nothing to fix it. I even scheduled an appointment for my daughter who chipped a tooth and the appointment confirmation was sent to my email, then when my husband and her arrived for her appointment, they said they didn't have one for her and sent them away. We've been going to Make A Smile Dental for almost five years now. Our first phase with orthodontics was wonderful. Dental care has generally been fine. Specific to our current experience with orthodontics - I had some simple follow-up questions for the orthodontist after our consult and I could not speak or email with him directly. It felt like playing telephone because the staff did not understand my questions and could not relay them properly, but I had no way to communicate except through them (unless I scheduled another appointment for however far out, just to ask questions). The staff member that called me back was extremely condescending and suggested it was my fault that I had questions tI didn't ask during the appointment. I know these places are busy and they have a lot of patients but there's no reason to insult parents trying to understand details of a treatment plan for their child that impacts adulthood. read more

The incompetence of the billing/insurance authorization department borders on negligence. Their actions resulted in my kid having to endure extreme discomfort (They are rescheduling an extraction appointment for 4 wisdom teeth from our original appointment June 11 until August 13). Our original appointment was scheduled months ago and they only put the approval/authorization request in 11 days ago. There are so many layers to why and how this is impacting my kid (like symptoms of POTS and Autism) but in general this negligence has resulted in my kid enduring pain, extreme discomfort, and immeasurable inconvenience. Make a Smile, y'all need to pull it together. Your job matters. Added note 5 days later, still no new appointment scheduled. I don't typically leave reviews but I feel like this was one worth leaving so please bear with me through this one... First off, I had an Oral Surgery appointment scheduled for 3 separate teeth to be extracted, two of which were my wisdom teeth. I was scheduled for 1 P.M. today. I got a call yesterday (27th of November) asking if I could come in at 10 as there was a schedule change. I happily agreed. There was a special x-ray that I needed before my procedure but was told it could be done right before my appt and it was no issue. Today, I get a call at 8:25 a.m informing me the xray machine they needed was only available at the Citrus Heights location. (I live an hour or so north from Citrus Heights as is) so I rush down to get my Xray.I make it by 9:40 and get checked in. It takes one full hour for my xray to be done. I got FIVE X-rays taken because none of them were done correctly until the tech got me on FaceTime with someone from another office (who was so kind) I was told that since it took too long, my 10 am appointment was cancelled but they were going to accommodate me (I'd hope so) in Folsom, so I was advised to drive to Folsom for a 1 p.m. appointment as that's all that they had. I have 2 1/2 hours to kill so I drive to Folsom from Citrus Heights. I get a call at 12:10 stating that Folsom WOULDN'T SEE ME and I had to go to rocklin office for a 1 p.m. appointment. I make it to rocklin. Thank god. I get taken back to be prepped. I was told no food or water so I guess that affected my veins and their ability to start an IV (dehydration, I understand. But I was strictly advised NO food or water) I have 7 bruises in my arms from them not being able to find a vein. The doctor finally got it after saying "maybe I'm having a bad vein day" whatever that means. He lets me know "I'm going to inject something that will make you go to sleep in a minute" What felt like a short period later (as that's how anesthesia works) I was awake. I thought wow that was nice we're done but he was just starting on my wisdom teeth. I tried to tell them it hurt, I was shaking, I was crying, I was OBVIOUSLY uncomfortable. The doctor says "she's just reacting this way because of the anesthesia" I lift my arms just to have them brought down. I wince just to hear "more lidocaine" Finally the tooth is out and I say thank god as I'm crying just as the nurse says "you're doing great Jessica, one more tooth" (which is not my name, lol.) so I woke up from my anesthetic not even half way through, crying from pain while nothing was done. I opted to get the general anesthesia as I have terrible anxiety when it comes to the dentist, and I let them know how nervous I was which is why I felt SO invalidated when I woke up and they were literally just talking about coffee drinks as I was quite noticeable struggling. They also reminded me to pick up my antibiotics at my local pharmacy which my sweet mom found out they never called in. The staff was apologetic about the circumstances from today, which is why I gave them 2 stars. They had good intentions but nothing was organized and the patient care was not comforting in the slightest bit. I'm 25, an adult, so can handle this on my own and learn that I'll never go back. But as a child's dentist I hope nobody takes their kids here (as I'm a mom of 2 young kids myself) as it would traumatize them.Quite honestly it traumatized me. To the gal who wheeled me out to my car, you were lovely and personable and although it was a bad experience, I could tell you tried to make me more comfortable and I appreciate that and staff like you. (Make a smile Folsom pulled my top two wisdom teeth in January which had its own set of complications but nothing like this.) If you've stuck through this, thank you. I really debated on writing anything but I feel like it needs to be known when you're picking a provider for pretty intimate procedures. Edit:my mom has called (as I can't talk still from all the swelling they caused) to request my antibiotic be sent. They promised they did. The run around with the pharmacy confirmed they sent it to a CVS in a town nowhere near me after confirming twice the location of my local pharmacy. Been trying to call today to speak to some sort of management but won't get a call back. Dropped my review to 1 star. read more

My son needed two wisdom teeth removed. We were referred here. They are demanding a $1200 fee for a bone graft even though it is medically unnecessary. Wisdom teeth removal is covered 100% by Denti Cal but this unethical dental practice extorts their patients for more money and if they cannot pay for an added procedure they don't want they cannot get the needed dental treatment. They also charged us $100 to make the surgery appt and even though I cancelled it a day later, after consulting with other oral surgeons, they refused to refund our $100. And when i requested a copy our his xray they charged him for that, too. This is the most repulsive and unethical practice I've ever seen. Not to mention they did not use good hygiene between patients. The dentist did not wash his hands between patients as I was observing the whole time. Denti cal patients should file a class action lawsuit for being refused treatment due to an inability to pay for added ununnecessary treatment. No one needs a bone graft from a cadaver at the tune of $1200 if they don't want it. read more

While the service is still very good, I guess I'm not that crazy about the waiting room. It's mostly tidy. 12/22/22 Update: This literally just happened again. They sent us a new payment agreement (5th one at this point) for the same program that we've already had in place for months. We replied with a detailed email explaining the existing contract and asking why the new payment was different or even necessary; no response. Yesterday they left us a voicemail telling us that we would be liable for late fees if we didn't sign the new contract... You are likely to experience sheer disappointment with this Dental Facility on all fronts; billing, service and bedside manner. For Pediatric Dental Care the level of service was incomprehensible. Frankly, I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't read the reviews before signing my minor child up for dental care here. The dental board needs a review of this facility. Pretty sure the X-ray tech was stoned (maybe an uncharted level of super ditsy, who knows). The receptionists are shamefully impolite and disrespectful, to the point it was borderline hostile. I was legitimately speechless at the lack of professionalism and improper conduct. They do virtual check ins, so no live, in-person employee you can speak with. After voicing that this process is no longer a good fit for our family and we were seeking alternative dental care, the staff assured me no more virtual checks ins would occur. We gave them one more shot, sure enough our next visit was a virtual check in. Also super fun, they claim on yelp "due to HIPAA regulations, matters must be discussed in private". However, they blast your private medical information loudly (VERY loudly) over the virtual check speaker, ill-mannered much? Loud enough for the entire waiting room to hear. Good luck trying to speak with a manager via phone or email regarding improper handling of billing and unauthorized charges; you leave countless voicemails and emails but do not receive a response. I submitted FOUR emails to management over the course of a month and the concerns go unresolved. The office staff is ruder than the DMV, and completely condescending. If you're late to an appointment, they reschedule you. However, if they are late it's unapologetic. Their time is more valuable than yours. Hopefully the owners come to realize these countless negative reviews are legitimate and do a revamp of the office staff. read more

I am very disappointed I have been taking my daughter to Make a Smile for years and now my son. I have always had a good experience in Lincoln but today I was very disappointed. My son is 4 years old and he is still adjusting to going to the dentist especially after COVID. Well the hygienist was very rude and I feel discriminated. When I told her I was sorry he didn't want to take his X-rays because he's 4 she's like he's almost going to be five. And then said if he was soiled because she smelled an awful smell. Really I told her he was 4 and potty trained. I am so disappointed if it's a Dental office that specializes in kids and they don't know how to work with kids then do a different job. And Make a Smile this customer service is unacceptable. I am sincerely let down. They didn't show any patience with kids. Also are they supposed to speak out loud your kids medical history. I found this to be very unprofessional and goes against confidentiality laws. I was anxious and nervous for both of us. All I can say is THANK YOU MAKE A SMILE! From the receptionist who greeted us in very professional and kind manner to the tech who did x-rays (with NO pain!) and Dr. Martha, who was gentle, kind and explained everything she was going to do to my daughter. We have lousy insurance and I've read so much about dental offices upselling, pressuring for more than needed, etc., I was anxious to see if this would happen. NOPE! None of that. Just want to update my review and state that my child just had to have another crown at another local dentist office. It took them ONE week to get the approval from delta dental. Makes me wonder if this place is trying to get parents to pay out of pocket by dragging out the approval process for months from delta dental.
