Went here for a casual dinner before a concert mid-week. I didn't actually realize this was a Michelin recognized place until we walked in and saw the plaques. I love accidentally eating at Michelin places without planning it! They don't take reservations here, and there was a bit of a line to get in on a Wednesday, but ended up squeezing into the last seats that were available. Once they seat you, they have you go up to the counter to order once you've decided, and there you can choose to start a tab or not. So it's really informal and casual here. The place is really small and packed, so it's quite loud as well. What stood out to me was that the food was really noticeably fresh, well-prepared and had high quality ingredients. My favorite dish was the Málà Wings which honestly were the best wings I've ever had. Seriously. They were perfectly crispy, meaty and spicy. Coming here just for drinks and these wings would not be a bad choice at all. The rest of the food was good but not amazing. The Chinatown Dumplings were like normal dumplings but did have a stand out texture and consistency. The Stir Fry Beef Noodles were very good, with perfectly tender beef and generally had a pretty addicting flavor. The Sizzling Spicy Noodles were disappointing as they weren't as the name implied, not spicy at all and in fact very vinegary. The noodles in it were good though. I can see why they are Michelin recognized because of the high quality of the cooking. They have a fantastic drinks/cocktail program here as well. I wouldn't mind coming again but I don't really see a reason to rush back here. I loved the wings intensely but that's not enough to really make this a favorite destination. The food was just slightly above average overall by Denver standards. If I lived within walking distance maybe I'd be a regular.
Sorry, this just did not land with us. We came in on a Saturday at around 3pm. We were sat and waited on immediately. Service was very friendly and attentive but the food was really subpar for the prices. Crab rangoons were oddly very sweet and the sauce that came with it was even sweeter so it threw us off from the traditional crab rangoons we know and love. The potstickers were decent but pretty large and heavy. The beef stir fry was lackluster. It had barely any beef and felt like a small portion. Highly recommend you get some chili oil to season up your dishes
Really friendly wait-staff. Definitely fusion restaurant, but still respectful of the culture. The Green onion pancake wrap was decent, not comparable to styles from Taiwan, but I wasn't expecting to find one that did in the middle of Denver. The corned beef fried rice was okay, I think their noodle dishes were a lot better.
Food is always amazing here but they tend to change how they do service. Before my first experience here, I had been told it was a "order at the counter and find a table" situation. Then at my first experience, I found a table while waiting for my party and was told its table service so next time I need to wait at the entrance. This visit, we waited at the front and once seated was told to order at the counter. Very confusing on what experience to expect next.
This place rocks! We came in on a random weekday and it was pretty packed. However that didn't impact our service at all! Everyone was super friendly and things were speedy. We ordered a bunch of different options - mostly vegetarian/pescatarian and it was super easy to navigate the menu with dietary restrictions. I will say that the mozz sticks did said they did not have egg however came with a side of ranch which does have egg, but this was easily verified with the person at the counter. You do have to pay for street parking unless you park a couple of blocks away. The cocktails were fantastic as well. I just wish they listed what main spirit was in each of them (but this is another question that was easily answered by staff). The food tasted incredible. Everything we got we loved. We will definitely be back and the last note that I have is to add purse hooks for the window counter seats. :)
Food was yummy but I would get something else next time. The noodles were a bit underwhelming but the bao buns were super yummy. The crab ragoons were a bit sweet which was different. It is a smaller place and they do a lot of takeout. Inside is pretty and very on theme
Not sure what all the hypes are. We waited for the doors to open so we didn't have to wait for people to leave. This was the day after Valentine's. They were out of most of the drinks we wanted to try and some featured eats, too. Didn't think I'd like the Gua Bao as much since it is shredded pork, whereas the authentic kind is either one big piece of pork belly or at most, diced pork belly. But hey the shredded worked! I guess the meats are more evenly soaking up the sauce which makes for a moist bun! Jian Bing is my second favorite. It actually had more flavor than what I had at the Queens China Town. Well done! Stuff like Ma La mozzarella cheese sticks and Spicy Tofu salad made me feel like: why bother. Dessert was probably the most surprising and pleasant: Black sesame banana pudding! While hubby was grossed out, I had more bites. Loved how nutty and not-too-sweet the concoction was. Finally I can say been there, done that, to MakFam!
Stopped by for lunch and it did not disappoint! Ordered the Thai chicken wings and the sizzling noodles with tofu to share. The wings were fairly large and seasoned very well. Super crispy too. Absolutely loved them. The noodles were very good as well. The flavors at this place are unmatched. Cute spot, relatively small location with cool staff. Would recommend to anyone in the area!
This place never disappoints! I've gone back to back in the weekends and I just can't get enough of this place. A friend took me once and wow, the flavors of the food are devine. The portions are small but hey, I don't mind because the food is just mouth watering. The restaurant is small but there is plenty of seating. It's very bright, clean, with super speedy service. I will be going back with my husband soon! Can't wait.
Went to MAKfam with friends for a birthday dinner on a Sunday night. Surprisingly short wait time for a busy spot without a *ton* of table seating. They do have quite a few high top spots and the food came out fast. This space has a really cool vibe. It's bright, colorful, well decorated, and they were playing old hip-hop. I would definitely hangout here more. Now for appetizers - chinatown dumplings were great. rangoons and scallion pancakes were fine, simple. i personally didn't love the fancy wun tun tongs as they are a shrimp / chicken blend and it felt overpowering, but that is truly a personal preference. the sauce they are in is phenomenal though! i'll be dreaming of the mala mozz sticks forever. perfectly spiced. yum. now for the noods - i went with the tofu sizzling spicy noodles. the tofu was cooked fabulously and the dish had so much flavor. i love the texture of their noodles! the heat to this dish is an art. i added a lil extra chili oil too. highly recommend. pricing felt pretty standard. the menu is on the smaller side and pretty specific flavor profiles. overall it was an enjoyable meal and I'd be happy to return at some point.
I came to MAKfam while in Denver based on a recommendation and it did not disappoint! I came in on a Monday night around 6pm and it was very busy but was luckily able to get a table without a wait, which was not the case after eating. I came with two people which was great because I was able to sample many things and there were even leftovers! The highlights for me were definitely the Hong Kong style curry which came with chicken and white rice on the side and the fancy wun tun tong dumplings in a delicious sauce. The Chinatown dumplings were a close second and also delicious! The biggest surprise dishes were the mala mozz sticks with a Thai basil ranch (which really made the dish) and the corned beef fried rice which was better than I expected. I only tried the spicy chicken bao and it was good, but it isn't a must order IMO. The vibe was very fun, casual and service was good. They offer interesting cocktails, wine and beer as well that compliments the food well. Plus ask for extra chili sauce when ordering if you like spicy food. MAKfam is a wonderful spot and worth a visit!
FINALLY making it to MAKfam!! This place has been on our must do list ever since they earned their bib gourmand status from Michelin. Bite after bite we were blown away by the flavor of everything and we really enjoyed all of the food...except for one dish unfortunately. They stagger when they bring the food so we weren't feeling pressured to eat quickly before things would get cold. Dish after dish was amazing, until the last one. The chicken sandwich they have on the happy hour menu fell way short of expectations and did not come anywhere close to how delightful everything else was. My boys love chicken sandwiches and they both took one bite and didn't want any more even though they were still hungry. So while we can highly recommend everything else we got, we would recommend steering clear of the sandwich. It's a great place with a really cool vibe. The decorations were fun and the staff was friendly and attentive. Be aware they get really busy and I think restaurant capacity was just under 60 people, so be prepared to wait. It's worth it tho! Just give um your phone number and go do some shopping near by to kill some time. We will definitely go back!!
It's a high energy atmosphere that's fun to bring friends who want to try Chinese food like scallion pancakes, bao, and dumplings. The cocktails are top notch. I'm sad the second time I went there they didn't have the frothy msg tea cocktail. It was the best cocktail I've ever had probably

I'm a big fan of MAKfam! From Hong Kong Style French Toast to Meta Asian Kitchen, I have been following Ken and Doris' culinary achievements! Family-owned, the two of them have done it again with MAKfam opening its doors in Denver! At MAKfam, I love the simplicity of the menu. They currently offer 17 food items and do such a great job with each dish. After two visits, I have tried all but three items on the menu. Order at the register, then take your seats. The vibe is bright and welcoming from all the natural light and big windows. The decor is modern with elements of family and home. My favorite appetizers are: mala wings (which are extra crispy, spicy, and flavorful) and the crab and cheese wontons (served with a sweetness -- cinnamon maybe? -- and duck sauce). While I love all of the big bites I've tried, I'd say my favorite is the salt and pepper chicken rice plate, followed by the sizzling spicy noodles. I'd say being able to eat spicy foods here is a must, but there are a few non-spicy options too. Will definitely be back, especially to try more of the cocktails! read more

The Good: Food was flavorful and the host was awesome! The Okay: Food was oily. Plates were small - even the "mains." The cycle of service.... MAKfam! So excited to have you in this neighborhood! The decor is giving street food and chill vibes. There aren't a ton of tables so come early if you want a seat! I stopped by with a friend and we ordered a selection of items from the menu including the scallion pancake, Chinatown dumplings (which are like pan-fried potstickers if you're from the Midwest like me), a pork belly bao, a spicy chicken bao, and the salt and pepper chicken rice plate. I also ordered Mala wings and the sizzling spicy noodles with chicken to go. I also ordered the Coco CREAM cocktail with no alcohol. It was fantastic. With alcohol would be amazing too! As for the food...all the flavors were spot on. I really loved the Chinatown dumplings. The texture of the dumpling wrapper was spot on and the flavor was lovely. The scallion pancake was crispy and flaky. The baos were both delicious. The salt and pepper chicken was well seasoned and super crispy which I loved! The rice in the dish needed help though. I was picturing like rice that chonked but it was loose and grainy and not ideal for me. The sizzling spicy noodles were delish! A little spicy and loved the mala flavor and numbness. The noodle texture was absolute perfection. The wings though. They were BOMB. 10/10 recommend. They were crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The basil ranch, chef's kiss. Incredible restaurant in denver! Very casual with quick service and tasty bites. We ordered everything on the menu (not kidding) and think the mala wings with Thai basil ranch, fancy wun tun tong dumplings, and corn beef fried rice were the winners. This was the first time and won't be the last. Came here with a few friends. Staff were friendly and helped us with a lot of the menu items...even though we ended up trying to pick everything on the menu. Get the Hong Kong milk tea!!! So good. Wait was long but worth every minute food was delicious. Tea was amazing. Vibe was awesome. Have to go to see it. Go for the dumplings go for the fried rice. Honestly, we went for everything and it was delicious. read more
5 stars instantly for playing Mobb Deep. Heard Biggie already and other East Coast rap. Boom. The restaurant has contemporary elements with traditional Chinese touches intertwined. We sat at the booth with the 282 Storefronts print. As for the food, all the sharable dishes are perfectly portioned. We enjoyed crab and cheese wontons, Chinatown dumplings, scallion pancakes, the chicken and pork belly baos, and a cabbage and noodle dish with chicken. I really loved the sweetness and tanginess to all the sauces. The Chinatown dumplings were my favorite because of the crispness. The noodles' texture was a little undercooked for my liking, not sure if that is intended or not; therefore, there's an adjustment in the rating for that. The service was quick and pleasant. Makfam was a last minute audible that me and my girlfriend made on our one day in Denver. We are so grateful to have stumbled on this spot. Super casual spot but the food is insane. We arrived during happy hour and got a bunch of deals. Everything we had was delicious. We both really enjoyed the bao bun and beef noodles. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Made sure to call out all the happy hour deals and were super patient. Definitely will be back and will recommend to all my friends who visit Denver. read more
WOW!! this was definitely one of my favorite restaurants that I've ever been to this year. I came here on a trip to Denver and I wish I lived in Colorado because I would definitely come here all the time. The service was incredible and fast, and the staff came to check on me several times. This place actually is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. Everything we had was very flavorful. Wonderful hot and very crispy chicken wings. The corned beef fried rice was super tasty and a nice size serving. I liked the beef stir fry but there was very little beef. Small venue but they make it worth it. read more

The wait was quite long but the food was definitely worth it. My party of 3 waited about 45mins to get seated. I think they could benefit by offering reservation services through their website or a third party like OpenTable. The food was really good, I would definitely recommend the bao! The service was great too, our food came out relatively quickly after ordering. The menu was very reasonably priced for the portions and quality as well! read more

Pretty cute hip asian fusion restaurant vibe with a bar facing out through window facing the street with some booths. Fast food style service to order food at cashier, they give you a number stand to bring food to your table. We tried all 3 bao buns with chicken, pork, and tofu for small plates. Also got beef stir fried noodles and salt & pepper chicken and rice plate. The food was pretty good. read more

I came here on their first day of service, and have been back at least 15 times! They are such a wonderful addition to my hood! Everything is delicious, but my favorites are the wings, the mozzarella sticks, both dumplings and the beef stir fry noodles. The owners and staff are super friendly, and they play great music and Asian films. read more

Wow wow, all the flavors that chef Wan was able to incorporate into his menu is pure genius! The delicious succulent dumplings. The crispy fries with that whipped tofu aioli and scallion oil, yum yum! I need that sauce sold in a jar please! The scallion pancake with beef and egg, yum yum yum! Not to mention the drinks that they offer. We got the Hung Dao Mao and Coco Cream. Both looked and tasted great! Such a fun and beautiful place for dates and/or group hangouts. You can tell that the Makfam team takes pride in providing Denver foodies a spot to chill, drink and enjoy tasty bites with their loved ones. I'll be back real soon! read more
Food was delicious, however the best ting we ate was the bao buns. I think I could eat those every day and never tire of them!! The sizzling spicy noodles were a thick glutinous noodle, so if that isn't your thing I would recommend the beef noodles. The corned beef fried rice was also a big hit. read more
Got the Pork Belly Bao, Steak and Egg Jian Bing, and Tofu Whip Fries. The food was very good and the service very quick would definitely recommend giving them a try! One small critique would be to put the whip tofu sauce over the fried instead of serving the sauce in a small portion on the side. Loved the food otherwise! read more
This is a hidden gem! The restaurant is cute, hip, and lively, with a great music selection. My friend and I sat at the bar quickly, but now I need to go back to try the entrees. We just got a couple of apps to share. Alex, the bartender, was kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. I got the espresso martini to drink. It was delicious. Everything we had to snack on was excellent! The wantons are a must! They come with a sauce that tastes similar to apple pie! It was sweet and savory in the best way. I got the pork bao bun, and it was so soft it melted in my mouth. We got the wings. They were meaty with crunchy skin. I was going to get the spicy noodles and fried rice, but I will have to save it for next time. I will be back! The food is absolutely amazing! I'm not a huge pork belly fan but the bao buns were delicious- flavorful and lacking fat. We tried many dishes and nothing disappointed; in fact, every dish exceeded our expectations. I wasn't expecting much with the scallion pancakes but wow, we were pleasantly surprised at the taste and texture (crispy and perfectly prepared). I like ordering food at the counter- it allowed us to "stage" our food. The service is efficient and pleasant. The restaurant itself is busy (not surprising given the recent Bib Gourmand award) and we were lucky to be seated quickly with no wait. Will definitely return to MAKfam again (and again). read more
This hip little spot absolutely did not disappoint us on Valentine's Day. A fast casual place, the food is absolute fire (and also ridiculously speedy). Though you order at the counter, we were greeted by employees upon entering who told us to pick our spot, handed us menus, and brought us water cups. We ordered scallion pancakes, the spicy Szechuan noodles, chicken and egg fried rice, and one pork belly bao. Everything was so good. My boyfriend doesn't like spicy food but was blown away by the flavor of the spicy noodles. They were AMAZING! Very spicy but not too spicy so the flavor is lost. I didn't notice my tongue was burning until I tried to drink some water... my perfect level of spice! The scallion pancakes were super crispy and flaky, but the sauce was a little more vinegary than we were used to - we still polished off the plate quickly and I contemplated getting another, so not a dealbreaker. The menu is decently small, but there's a good variety and almost everything can be made vegetarian or vegan. I definitely will be coming back here again, and have already given a recommendation to two people upon leaving. read more

Walked in, asked by employee what he could do for me and I told him I dunno I just got here. All in good fun but I think he was offended as he looked perturbed and walked to I'm guessing the owner, made a comment, looked at me and walked away. Maybe he was having a bad day and didn't receive my attempt at humor. Either way, she waited on me and made a recommendation for an item which I accepted. I ordered the bao bun with 24 hour pork, crab Rangoon, and corned beef fried rice. The bao was pretty tasty. Could have used some salt. Bun texture was perfect and the meat was moist not dry. Crab rangoons were out of this world delicious! I could have eaten two more orders of those and been happy. The sauce exceeded expectations as well. Corned beef fried rice kind of clashed with my two previous orders. It was good but I think I should have gone with the traditional scrambled egg instead of the fried egg. Whatever the soy sauce was really lifted the dish. I wanted to ask for more but I decided I could spruce it up back at my hotel. The amount was so generous that I had two more servings for the next few days. I reheated it stovetop with beef bone broth and a dash of garlic salt. Came out really tasty. Only down side was I think maybe there might be msg used as I had a dizzy sensation after I left which happens whenever I consume msg. Otherwise I'd recommend and return. read more
