Love MakFam! So great to taste foods of different cultures and countries. I really liked the spicy chicken wings and dumplings.

Saw this restaurant on social media and the ambiance and cute drinks definitely drew me in! First of all, parking was a bit difficult. I went on a Wednesday night and street parking was pretty much all taken. I had to drive around a couple blocks to finally get a spot. It's an interesting layout for ordering, reminds me of a fast food takeout. You order first at the counter and pay, then they gave me a table number to place on my table. Seat yourself to any available table. I ordered their hung dao mao drink that came in a cute cat cup. They take your credit card as a security deposit since apparently people who take the cups. I didn't really taste much of the red bean but definitely rum. I also ordered their mala wings, but it was more like mala drumsticks.. the flavor was exceptional and freshly fried. Must order! I also requested for the sizzling noodles with pork belly to be more mild since I can't really eat spicy anymore. Lastly, the pork belly bao bun was good. I felt like it was more like pulled pork but really tasty. They added a bit too much hoisin sauce, but I wiped it off. Overall, the mala fried chicken was the best thing I ordered. We took our chef son here because he recommended it and we were not disappointed. This joint rocks the noodles! Boss Lady really loved the wallpaper and the decor. We ordered several dishes and enjoyed each one. The service was quick, and the food came out piping hot. Our waitress was very pleasant and acted as if she liked working here (not often the case in some restaurants). I don't remember all the things we ordered. Just see the pics and try to figure them out. It was a bit pricey, but what isn't in Denver. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Holy cow this place is good. Perfect for a fun quick dinner or a counter top lunch. I love the decor and the glassware. So cute, vibrant and fun! The Chinatown dumplings are a must and come with the most delicious dipping sauce. The shrimp CO fried rice is dank and served with tons of flavor! Beef stir fried noodles were also a must. The beef is so tender and tangy and the noodles are the perfect pairing. The Fancy Wun Tun Tung are also a favorite and they sell out of these quick. The broth is so good you'll find yourself drinking it after: This is a blessed little gem in the perfect spot in denver. Pretty cool place! loved the feel of the place, but the star of the show here is the noodles. They get noodles locally made and omg they are crazy good. I asked where they came from cause again they were the best noodles i've had. The Szechuan peppercorn in the sizzling noodles though makes your mouth go numb for a bit after eating so be warned!! Stick with the spicy chicken on the bao buns, I got a pork one and it was just meh. The chicken had waaaay more flavor here. only giving 4 stars though because the high chairs at the majority of the tables are very, very uncomfortable. We moved to the bar to have a more 'normal' chair. As long as there is room at the bar, or if we have enough people for a booth, I will defintiely be back! read more

Huge fan of MAKfam. So stoked about their new location on Broadway! The spot is such a vibe. Neon signs, art, florals, music, all amazing. The spicy garlic butter rice cakes and the mala wings were spicy, sweet, tangy, are so delicious. The Chinatown dumplings were thick and pan fried to perfection. The crab Rangoons were good, but a little sweet on the inside for me. But over all, I loved it so much. Will 10000% be back for a noodle and chicken dish. Oh and for the amazing staff. We REALLY enjoyed our food here. Was able to make a reservation the week of for 6pm on a Friday which is always nice to not have to fight to eat somewhere. When you walk in, it's busy and looks casual. In fact, you order at the counter and they bring you the food. I'm very much fine with this system, but it was a funny juxtaposition to be paying a lot of money for fancy Chinese food that you order at the counter. Regardless, we enjoyed everything we had and we ordered just about 1 of each thing on the menu (the menu isn't that big). Will certainly be looking forward to coming back and hope they continue to change up their menu too so we can try new things. And cocktails are great! read more

I went to MakFam on 3/9 for a quick lunch. Unfortunately I ended up getting extreme food poisoning from undercooked chicken in the dumplings. I have been trying to get ahold of them via their online form since they have no phone number or email address on their website but no one has yet contacted me. I contacted them on the morning of 3/10 then again on 3/11. This is so unfortunate since the flavors of the food were great and the staff was really nice but their failure to communicate after reaching out TWICE about their undercooked chicken ensures I won't be returning. read more

MAKfam blew us away-- we came on Friday evening and waited an hour to be seated for a party of 6 (there's lots of HH options at bars nearby!) The restaurant is a sit-down but you order and pay up at the front counter. The drink menu was incredible as it featured fun drinks using ingredients like MSG, grass jelly, or red bean. The golden pig was smooth with the fat-washed bourbon paired with salted honey and garnished with swirls of gold glitter. Ok onto the food-- every dish stood out to us in all of their wok-fired glory. The scallion pancake was very thin and crisp (I usually like it when there's more layers and chewy in the middle) but flavorful and a good way to start the meal. The dumplings were perfectly panfried and well-filled. Mala wings-- just enough crispy coating and very juicy meat. The mala pepper garnish on top was so good we spooned some of it on top of other dishes. (The same could be said of the housemade mala chili oil) XO shrimp fried rice-- each grain is perfectly separated and the seasoning is perfect. The shrimp is tender Sizzling spicy noodles-- the chili oil is incredible!!! And the noodles super chewy Sizzling chicken rice plate--crispy chicken over well-cooked rice Beef stir fried noodles-- these egg noodles were thin but cooked just right for a little chew and lots of wok-hei. The beef was tenderized and well-seasoned Overall nothing was too salty and each dish had a unique flavor profile that made them enjoyable to eat. Came to check out this viral eatery before Nuggets game. There was a wait but it passed very quickly. The staff was very nice and instructed us to look at the menu and then order at the counter. The complaint I had which you can't really help is the bar tables were very small, if you order a bunch of small plates, although they spaced our dishes out perfectly so we it wasn't too crowded. We ordered the crab cheese wontons, mala wings, scallion pancake, fancy wun tun tong, and the braised pork belly buns. For drinks...I can't remember the names I believe it was the golden pig, and one with cold brew. Being a bartender myself I thought they were ok, with the golden pig being the better out of the two. I wanted to love this place, but the ordering system here is awful. The food however is really good. You wait to be seated, but you have to stand in line in the front and order your meal and drinks at the register. It is not ideal in the tight restaurant. It would be easier if you can just order from your table whether it be through a waiter or app. The food made up for the ordering mess. The wontons are nice with a creamy, spicy sauce. The mala wings were hot and crispy with a nice spice. The pork bao bun was good nothing special. The salt and pepper chicken sounds like nothing special, but it was delicious. The chicken is nice and crispy, and the sauces especially the ginger sauce are what make it extra special and delicious. For cocktails, I would probably suggest something different. It was just hard to determine since my friend went up to order while I stayed by our seats. MSGin is probably just as it sounds. It was like a cold umami broth. Fun, new, hip Chinese spot that brings an exciting flare and tasty dishes to Denver! Came on a Saturday around 8:30 - had a 15 min wait. They text you when table is ready so we jumped to punchbowl social for a quick drink. The interior is vibrant with neon signs and cute posters! What to get: - scallion pancake- tender and buttery - fancy wonton tong - juicy dumplings! - beef noodles - these were spicy! We ordered the cream cheese wontons (these turned out super sweet - tasted like an apple pie kinda sweet). We also got the mala wings which didn't offer anything special. This spot is very cool! The way they decorated the space is very trendy and at the same time feels traditional. You order your food and pay at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. Everything I had was so tasty!!! I was really happy with it all. The space is fairly small, so I wouldn't say it's the best for a group bigger than 4-5 people. And if you know anything about the area, parking can be tricky. But overall it's a great, casual spot! read more

Funky and flavorful modern Chinese in a cute space! The fried chicken had a great balance of heat and flavor, and was super juicy inside. They have genuine sichuan peppercorn heat here, iykyk its tongue numbing and addictive! The sizzling noodles were plentiful and also a great spice kick. Really fun to eat. Pork belly bao is made with slow cooked pork and served fluffy and fresh. Would love some more mocktail options but the lemon tea was great! read more

Wow! What a disappointment. I was looking for a top Yelp place to try and this place looked great. They were slow as molasses bussing the tables so we could sit. They seemed understaffed. The guy was pleasant but in over his head and slow moving. It's self ordering at the counter and then you need to tip but there is really no service. My food was brought to me with no plates and no utensils. I asked for plates and we walked to counter to get ourselves utensils. On to the food. For 3, we spent just under $100 for lunch including 1 beer. It was all pretty inmemorable. Best of the bunch was the chicken dumpling special and another dumpling, the sizzling noodles were fine, beef noodles also ok, I was not crazy about the scallion pancakes . Like most places in denver, this is over-rated with minimal service at best. it was an ok meal but i truly dont see what all the fuss is about. Ps I almost forgot the bao bun - almost plain. So my wife saw a write up in the 5280 magazine on Makfam and suggested we try it. My wife is Cantonese and we grew up in the San Francisco area, so we can be a little picky when it comes to Cantonese style cuisine. The service was good. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door, we were handed menus and told we could sit wherever we felt comfortable. Thought that was pretty cool. We were then immediately brought a bottle of water & some glasses and told when we were ready to order to just come up to the counter. Thought this was pretty cool as well as it takes the pressure off of a server asking if you're ready to order yet. Our order: fancy wun tun tong scallion pancake spicy garlic butter rice cakes Hawthorne berry ice tea The wun tun tong and the rice cakes are both spicy, but in a good way. More flavorful than blow your head off and the ice tea was very refreshing to drink with spiciness. The scallion pancake was definitely not a favorite due to it being burnt. I noticed in many of the photos that are posted, they are also burnt. This needs to be refined. The thing we liked least was the overly loud, VERY vulgar rap music. I'm not a fan of that kind of music in the first place, but I definitely don't want to hear while I'm trying to enjoy a meal. This alone would keep me from ever coming back. read more

And I must say she's shaken my world with MAKfam's Bao Buns. Their inviting textures and enchanting flavors could've given my men the vitality and disposition they needed to finish off Wellington's men, but alas I ended up on Saint Helena. And so, if you're like me and are getting over the whole exile thing, promptly raise an army and gleefully lift your spirits with this tavern's Sichuan-peppercorn-infused tequila. Do not fret my good man, it's no laxative and is served in the most prodigious little tiger-shaped glass. Whether you seek a pre- or post-battle meal, this eating house has small plates, so you may choose your own destiny (always my preference). The Chinatown Dumplings alone make me regret not pushing further east past Egypt to experience this region's cuisine sooner. I thought those pesky Jesuits were speaking fables when they reported on the flavors hidden away at the end of the Silk Road. But now that I've had this proprietor's Glass Noodles with Shrimp and Broccoli and Sizzling Spicy Noodles, I relinquish all doubts. Sheath your sword, these food operatives are quite affable too. I'd dissuade anyone from conscripting them for battle against the Prussians, they're far too kind. Additionally, my fellow patrons gave me no fear of assassination, though they had no stomach for discussing the merits of Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Alas, it's more of a contemporary fusion place filled with bohemian aristocracy, so I left them in peace and demanded no ransom for their indifference toward military affairs. read more

Went for lunch - fast casual eatery. Fast service and friendly staff. Ordered: Sizzling Spicy Noodles: 3/5 - the Szechuan spice was THERE and I appreciated it! Def numbed my mouth haha. But the noodles were wayyy too chewy; almost undercooked? Chinatown Dumplings: 3.5/5 - these were good (juicy, not too salty) but nothing special Overall, I am giving MAKfam 3 stars because although the food was fine, I do feel like the items I purchased are typical "value items" but the price didn't reflect that. Perhaps it just hurt to pay $2.50 per dumpling...I don't know that I'll be returning again, but would still recommend you try for yourself! I read so many glowing reviews that I had very high expectations. Then we got there and it was so noisy and small and they sat us at a tiny table very close to other tables and told us to order at the counter and my hopes plummeted. Then we got the food and omg I was blown away. I'm not a rice person, this was the best fried rice I've ever had. The wontons were delicious, the tofu was too spicy for me (cause I'm a wuss) but it was still delicious, but the beef noodles was so so so so good and they were great as leftovers the next day also. Service was good, food was meh. There was not a single Chinese person in the restaurant (worker or customer) the entire time we were there. First sign it's not authentic Chinese food. For every dish we got that wasn't spicy, the meat and sauce were sweet. Second since it's not authentic Chinese food. If you're ok with very Americanized food with a hint of Chinese, you may be ok with this place. read more

This is a small place slinging the best cocktails you've ever had, accompanied by the most incredible food. I ate everything so fast I never took the time to get pictures. I went with 3 friends, and we ordered near everything on the menu to split between us all. Everything was DELICIOUS. I have to spotlight the dumplings here- I have been trying to find this specific type of dumpling everywhere to no avail. They are perfect- chewy, with a nice sear on bottom. There are very few Chinese spots in Colorado that delight, but MAKfam delivers. From atmosphere to service, to food & drinks. I love how they do not shy away from MSG, which historically had a bad reputation, but it is a quintessential ingredient in Chinese cooking. Their celebration of it is a celebration of Chinese cooking and culture as a whole. A couple of my favorite dishes are: 1. The Ma La wings, which were crunchy, juicy, well-seasoned, and had just the right amount of kick. 2. The XO fried rice, but specifically, the chili oil served with it is absolutely amazing and elevates the entire dish. A fried egg on top is a must-get add-on. 3. The Beef stir-fry noodles taste like a cross between Chinese home cooking and East Coast Chinese fast food, with its dry, thin, wok-cooked noodles and beef, which are full of wok hei flavors. read more

Perfect location for your evening dinner spot to grab some drinks at near by bars... or have a drink at their bar top! MAKfam is a counter order styler restaurant with amazing customer service and visual eye candy. Filled with vibrant bright colors of amazing art. This place can easily grab your attention while walking by to make you want to stop in. I ordered a few things off the menu. 1. Sizzling Spicy Noodles (with a fried egg) - This is a hot item for MAKfam! Not only do I mean hot as in popular.. but this is spicy! Very thick noodles with spice that will make your mouth numb and your nose run (in the best way) 2. Chinatown Dumplings - I love dumplings. These were perfectly filled with meat/wrapper ratio. Great dipping sauce to pair with. 3. 24 hour Braised Pork Belly Bao -You can immediately notice the length they cooked that pork belly as soon as you take a bite. So tender and soft. Perfect bite sized appetizer! 4. Fancy Wun Tung Tong - This was my favorite. It's a chicken and shrimp wonton soup in a chicken broth with XO chili sauce. Sooooo flavorful with a nice warmth to keep you warm during the winter. Portions can be handled well if you are very hungry. Super excited to come back and try the rest of the menu! read more
