This place honestly surprised me in the best way. Finding a good Japanese-style hot pot spot in LA isn't easy, but this one was really solid. The wagyu quality was great and the ribeye was probably my favorite -- very tender, juicy, and flavorful without feeling too heavy. You can tell the meat is fresh, and the portions were actually generous compared to a lot of other hot pot places. I liked that everyone gets their own pot, and the meal also comes with veggies and noodles, so we left super full. The presentation was nice and the restaurant itself felt clean and cozy. Service was friendly, food came out quickly, and the overall experience felt worth the price. They also had a Mother's Day special where you could get free soup base and ice cream by following and checking in, which was cute. I used to be a regular at Mokkoji before it changed ownership and became Shabubu. Overall, it's definitely pricier compared to Mokkoji. The owner mentioned they want to focus on serving only top-quality meat, which shows in the menu. I ordered: * Nebraska Angus Choice Ribeye ($28) * Canada USDA Prime Ribeye ($38) Both came as a combo with your choice of soup base, a veggie set, and ponzu and sesame dipping sauces. You can definitely taste the difference between the Angus and the prime beef. All the meat is sliced fresh upon order, which I appreciated. The veggie set portion is a bit on the smaller side, though. The restaurant is clean, and the tables are spaced out nicely. The vents can be a little noisy, but that's pretty normal for shabu spots. We find this newly opened Shabu-shabu place by my place, so we decided to stop by. This place is located in a plaza that has a lot of parking spot. Parking is not an issue. We ordered combo A (nabraska angus choice ribeye), combo F (Japan Miyazaki A5 Wagyu ribeye), and a side of glass noodle. The combo comes with a variety of vegetable. We each get our individual hot pot and broth. The meat was not as good as I expected. For example, the $98 A5 Wagyu ribeye was decent, but I expected more with the price I paid for. The combo A ribeye tasted like regular beef for Chinese hot pot. The extra glass noodle we ordered turns out to be $1-2 Chinese vermicelli from the supermarket instead of the Japanese glass noodle. This is a bit disappointing. Server was friendly and attentive, that deserved 2 stars. read more

We recently noticed this new hot pot restaurant and decided to give it a try. Food-wise, the hot pot was fairly average, nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. However, what really disappointed us was the service experience. When we walked in, the restaurant was quite empty. We politely asked if we could sit at a table toward the back, but were told it wasn't allowed. So we were seated at the very first table near the entrance, right next to the meat-slicing station. The slicing machine was extremely loud, making it difficult for us to have a proper conversation during our meal. Later on, we noticed a group of influencers (or social media personalities) coming in to dine, and they were seated in the back area without any issue. That contrast made the difference in treatment feel quite obvious. I truly believe every guest should be treated equally. Hospitality shouldn't depend on someone's social media presence or influence. Unfortunately, the inconsistency in service felt unprofessional, and for that reason, I wouldn't personally recommend this place. I hope the restaurant can improve and provide a more consistent experience for all customers. read more

More people need to know about this delicious shabu shabu restaurant! I admit, I had my doubts with the limited menu and higher prices, but the meat quality is amazing and the portion sizes were reasonably generous. I got the pork belly shabu shabu and it was some of the best pork I've gotten in the US. The pork looks like it has a lot of fat, but it wasn't greasy or heavy at all. The slices were thin and to account for that, the restaurant gave me extra slices. The udon that came with the vegetables was a full serving, and served me well as a substitute for rice. The choice beef and prime beef were both fresh and delicious too. The complimentary ice cream at the end was a super nice touch. I left feeling full and satisfied. I just hope the menu continues to expand and that there can be more variety of vegetables on the veggie platter. No wait on a Monday night. Tables are clean and spacious. This is a new hot pot that took over another hot pot place. I think they kinda of redid the interior with new tables and chairs. The menu is pretty simple and they have a variety of meats to choose from. My friend and I opted for the pork belly and Canadian beef. I enjoyed both and had no complaints whatsoever. I felt like this was your typical shabu shabu with great quality meats. I'd say this is on the pricier side. Very disappointing since we gave up going to our usual spot to try this place based on the mostly positive reviews. We did like the previous shabu spot this replaced too. Came here on a quiet Tuesday night there were 2 tables other than us. Tables are longer than they are wide so I was sitting closer to the neighboring table next to me than to my wife across the table. This made conversations interesting since the guy on the table next to me could hear me clearer than my wife... Got the $28 "combo A" choice ribeye, $38 "combo B" prime ribeye, and a side of $16 6pc tongue. The choice ribeye was some of the worst meat I've ever had at a hot pot restaurant. It broke down in my mouth like sand. The prime ribeye my wife got was a little better but still not great at all. Each combo comes with 10 slices, but judging the thickness of the cuts I'd guess each cut was 1oz for a total of 10oz of meat. Very overpriced imo. The veggies are minimal with cabbage, kale, enoki mushroom , 1 small pc of tofu, 1/6th of a corn, and a half block of udon. No rice included. $92 after tax and still tipped the server 15% for a decent job, coming out to $107. Did not feel like a $50 per person meal. Of course ppl are going to praise the meat quality if you get the more expensive A5 Wagyu options but we weren't looking to spend big. Another live and learn lesson. read more

This place has really really good quality meat and vegetable. I got ribeye and my girlfriend got beef tongue and the portion size is perfect for a filling meal. We also tried a side of the sakura pork belly and it was really soft and delicious but the favorite is easily the beef tongue. The sauces and the broth were amazing too, we had the kombu and hotate chicken. The kombu is very light in flavor but the sauces really fill out the taste and the hotate chicken has amazing flavor even without using any dipping sauces.
