    Sweet potato roll
    Anne L.

Came for a Saturday lunch and it was not busy at all inside. The prices were great, especially since you can order the lunch special on the weekend. Sweet potato roll is my favorite, and these were perhaps the biggest pieces I've ever had! And super freshly prepared tempura. The California roll was also large and had a generous crab portion, with no cucumber, only the good stuff! The waiter was very kind as well. Will certainly come back!

Walked over and took a seat at the bar. Waitress super nice but got the order wrong it's ok Sesame chicken is super breaded. Chicken fried rice big portion. Delicious. Sashimi the best Big fresh pieces. I can't wait to go back. Worth a try Ambience nice and quiet

I found this place because I was staying at the Bethesdan Hotel and it's right across the street. I really liked Maki Maki, they were huge and very filling. I ordered the Love at first sight roll and spider rolls. While, simple, they made these rolls really well. I would definitely come back. It looks like it's take out only since all of the chairs are stacked in the tables. Staff was friendly and fast.

This is one of my go to sushi places. I often order thru Uber, but today I decided to go in person since I was in the area. I arrived around noon, and was informed that their credit card machine was down so they were only taking cash at the time. There was two banks nearby, so I quickly stopped by one and grabbed some cash. I ordered three of the lunch specials: the sesame chicken bento, the sashimi lunch, and the two rolls special. The first two were $12.95 each, and the two rolls were $10.50. Very good deal for lunch. The bento came with chicken, rice, 3 piece California roll, and a salad with a dressing was like a ginger wasabi vinegrette or something, but not too spicy. The chicken was hot and crispy. The sashimi lunch was 2 pieces salmon, 2 pieces white tuna, and 2 pieces snapper. They were thick cut pieces, and it also came with 6 piece California roll. Lastly the two rolls I got were the eel avocado and the Vegas roll which is tuna avocado. Everything was delicious and I had leftovers to bring home. The only thing I find weird is the fact that the California roll is listed as having peanut butter in it. The only thing I could think of is if they mean peanut oil in the crab mixture, because it definitely doesn't taste like peanut butter. Either way, I will continue to order from here.

It's been some time since I have been here. Occasionally traveling for Bethesda..being cold and directly across from the hotel....and I wanted sushi. So--due.to.covid ..it is take out only. My avacado roll was simple and fresh. My spicy crunchy white tuna was a good concept but a bit fishy-- in a bad way and disappointing The other roll had shrimp tempura topped with spicy tuna..it was good..fresh but a bit messy to eat. While I have been here in the past...but this place did not hit it tonight... Maybe I'll give this a try after Covid when I am back in Bethesda....

The sesame chicken is deliciously prepared with the white rice on the side. Fried to perfection and satiates the hunger. The garden salad had a ginger dressing what added a nice spice of flavor to my palette. Such a generous portion more than Sakura Japan! And look, mango mochi ice cream!

I love sushi and so does my family! My granddaughter wanted sushi, but it was a school night and her mom wanted us to stay close by. We went over to Maki Maki. The restaurant is located on Wisconsin Avenue. There is public parking right behind the restaurant. It is a lovely restaurant with pretty prints decorating the walls. When, we entered we were the only ones there. As the time progressed, a lot of young people and business professionals came in. Service was good and we have our standard order: California rolls and shrimp tempura rolls. Both were fresh and very tasty. There is a sauce on the shrimp tempura roll, which was good, but different than other restaurants that I have been served this roll before. My other granddaughter had chicken fried rice. It was a huge portion and tasted delicious. Be prepared to pay a little more for your sushi. Two rolls cost about $12.00. They also charge for tea. You can order a variety of sushi or sashimi. The sushi bar has a large number of seats, so you can watch the chef prepare your dinner. It is definitely a young professional vibe, but we were welcomed and taken care of. The sushi and service were good and I will definitely be back.

To hear 'To Go' can make a big difference on your Sushi experience is not what I believe. I would state more effort should go into the TG orders so one would be inclined to return & dine in...unfortunately it didn't & won't happen here. Once the Sushi arrived home it was not a good look in presentation nor taste. & the difficulty in trying to transfer from container to plate was unnecessary. My order was simply all Veggies & still disappointing. My Gal Pal's Sushi selections - the Red Dragon & Maki Rolls were so saturated with Spicy Sauce she couldn't enjoy her food, yet was content with the Happy Salmon Roll. The good thing is not having to provide my Credit Card information over the phone & being able to pay in person. Overall a negative experience that will keep me visiting the other Maki restaurant located in the opposite direction on Wisconsin Avenue underneath the Trader Joe's.

This is GREAT for a lunch spot!! I'm always really nervous about trying new sushi places. I had received recommendations to try this place out for lunch because of their lunch deal: 2 rolls for $8.50! I orders the spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll, spring rolls, and a miso soup. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was!! The spring rolls were great too. Definitely looking forward to coming back for lunch takeout and trying more of their rolls

Loved this cute sushi and noodle spot. I'll come back again to try their noodles. Lunch Special I thoroughly enjoyed the lunch special here. I prefer a Philadelphia roll and an eel avocado roll. The special is definitely a bargain - you get 6 pieces per roll so you're not left starving! The sushi is good, nothing too exciting, but good quality We came in on a cold day so I ordered a miso soup to warm me up, which was delightful. I also ordered a seaweed salad, which was HUGE! I think my hungry self got ahead of myself as this was probably too much food. Next time I'll only get it if others want to split My friends ordered the noodles and a bento box, and those were also mouthwatering. I'll probably need to try the noodles next time!! Service Friendly and helpful service. Our waitress was super nice and even offered to split our checks by item, which made a big difference in not doing math or people paying too much. Ambiance Relaxing ambiance. I loved all the light in there. Final Verdict For Bethesda, this is a great work lunch option if you're craving sushi or noodles

This is a straight up corner lunchtime sushi joint. I mean, who else is going to come here other than those who work or go to school in the immediate vicinity? The lunch special is where it's at. For about $8, you get 2 "basic" rolls. I'm not talking sophistic Dragon Lion King roll. You get real simple rolls that take 5 seconds to make--a small piece of fish wrapped in rice and the toasted sheet of nori seaweed. So if that's what you seek then you're in luck because they're $4 a pop. Service is great/fast and your lunch stomach will be satisfied. It's nothing spectacular, but it's a good lunch spot if you're already in the area for some reason and don't want to spend a lot.

Dry, stale spicy crunchy tuna roll and 3-day old seaweed salad.

Ever wonder what train station sushi goes when it's not sold? To Maki Maki. Oy vey the worst I've ever had. Fish is not fresh. Seaweed salad not fresh. The California roll takes like slippery shrimp that's been dried in the sun for a week. The only thing preventing one star is the friendly, polite staff.

Small clam shell of mostly rice.
    Debra M.

Ordered Poke take out bowl, not worth the $13, tuna marinated and not tasty, plain rice and a bit of seaweed salad. A total of four ingredients for $13. Skip and go elsewhere, or order a different meal.

Raku is an Asian fusion restaurant and have some verity of Asians menus that's nice things about here. Their popular coconuts curry noodles soup is from Thai or Vietnamese coconuts curry, and not as spicy as authentic Thai or Vietnamese ones so It's easy to eat. You can choose from 3 type of noodles and different soup - curry or simple broth. It's probably better choice here than their sushi for my preference. If we just want Sushi in near Bethesda area, Sushiko in Chavy Chase is good. When we crave for Authentic sushi we just go to authentic Japanese restaurants ( some Michelin stars "Sushi Taro" in DC ) that is truly authentic quality. I also go to other one for sushi ( "Love Sushi Makoto" in DC ) I know that's not even comparable category as those restaurants offers authentic real foods by Japanese owner and chef, and ingredients are real from Japan. I know It's not fair to compare to Asian fusion restaurant like Raku or typical local sushi places that other Asian or American own the place. Raku is very reasonably priced as it should be for actual ingredients. Price stays reasonable that makes this place a popular spot too. I have to be honest their miso soup tastes no real authentic favor to me. But Raku is definitely better choice of quality foods overall compare to other Asian restaurants in Bethesda. Sushi chefs and waitresses are asian and none of them are Japanese and that is ok as most of Sushi chefs and Sushi restaurants in USA the workers are not Japanese anyways. It is actually hard to find Sushi restaurants that owned by Japanese with real Japanese chefs and waitresses and staff in USA. They sometimes says welcome "irasshai" in some Japanese greeting ( that's only used in restaurant setting ) with their wrong accent that is cute to me:) Bethesda is a cute little town and Bethesda row is just like a corner cute village with surrounded by basic restaurants and cafes, normal shops, nothing luxury really, but safer and quiet, clean little town. Neighbors enjoy to go out to restaurants including this Raku as easy to access from near suburbs housing area, so my friends does and walking distance from their houses. This restaurant set small tables very close to next seat and there's very small bar that space is limited, that's as why it's always filled up and crowded. It's uncomfortable and no privacy, I wish they make space between next seats. Except winter, they offer outside seats and dog friendly that's a bonus for dog lovers.

Off Uni which I saved for the last taste, first pieces stunk of ammonia, replacements were just bitter and off as well. These were suppose to be chef choice and he chose to serve off uni which could have easily been deteced with a sniff test. The salmon roe was also soft, runny, tasteless and off color. The remainder of the shashimi was OK but lacked the freshness one would expect for the price. Also the platter was so cluttered I could not identify what was what. Labels would be helpful. First time visit, first impressions are importent. Not the best experience I am giving an 1 star rating to draw attention for their managment and maybe fair warning to customers. I visited Raku on Thursday April 30 @7:30, Restaurant was about 3/4 full. A bit tight seasting as other's had described. Elbow to elbow almost. Typically noisy as resturantes are these days. 1. When we walked in, the receptionist / greeter had no uniform or ID badge so a bit confusing and no reception desk. Not the most welcoming hospitality. 2. Wait staff sort of dissappeared mid service or was just unattentive, they were right around the corner at the wait station. I dropped a chopstick on the floor and needed a repacement. I could not get eye contact so I had to get up and request a replacement after a few minutes. The two of us order the TOKU JO SASHIMI - (38) Chef's Choice ~ White or Multigrain Rice - $110. 3. The shashim was served an a single platter which was a bit crowded and lacked the artistry or elegance a $110 platter of shashimi shoud be presented. Many of the pieces were cut too large and chunky. I appreciate the generosity of the protions but they could / should have been sliced in half. Most of the fish tasted OK but lacked the brightness you expect from fresh cut shashimi. Maybe these platters are pre-prepared and storred in the cooler until needed. The rice served in bowls with the platter was extreemly bland to me. No flavor at all and a bit over cooked. 4. We ordeed the corn meal coated calamari as appetizer. This was adequate but lacked seasoniong and included a some what bland ambigious dipping sauce. Maybe garlic aioli. This was compped in compensation for the off uni in the sushi platter. Probabaly not going back regardless as I am not local.

I got there before the noon rush and ordered the bibimbap which consisted of bulgogi steak and tofu with spicy kimchi, housemade pickles, bean sprout banchan, and veggies atop crispy rice. Topped with gochujang and a fried egg. It was not too spicy as there was just a dab of gochujang which was enough to give the dish a little kick but not overly spicy. The kimchi was also on the spicy side but again, fine for me. All the ingredients were tasty. I especially loved the tofu mixed in with the steak sauce. My first bite of the tofu actually made me think it was the meat. The rice wasn't "crispy" as described. I think if I hadn't taken it as a to-go order, it may have been prepared in a stone pot therefore giving me that crispy rice. I will need to try a dine-in next time to be sure. The egg was perfectly done.

Super creamy and soft, with a strong miso sweetness that packed so much umami upon each bite. I would definitely splurge on this set just for the sea bass. Hinata is a combination of a Japanese market and a carry-out sushi place, and it seems as if they…read moreare pretty popular with the locals. We were walk-ins, and didn't know that there was already a queue for the sushi - we were quoted about 45 minutes, which we thought was a bit extreme, but since we were in the area, we decided to wait. Their menu is pretty extensive, offering rolls, sashimi, vegetarian options, and combos. We ordered: +the Sushi Deluxe - this came with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, flounder, omelet, squid, shrimp, eel, clam, and shad roe in nigiri form; there were also 6 pieces of California roll +a Sashimi Deluxe - 3 pieces of tuna, yellowtail, flounder, and salmon, and 2 pieces of octopus and purple clam Sushi could have been more fresh; some of the fish had an odor to it, and the octopus, especially, was way too fishy in both odor and taste. The sushi rice was a little too loose and kept breaking apart; we felt that there could have been more quality control in preparing these, especially with the long wait time and the high price points. The mart is super small and kind of tight, but I was surprised at the selection and some produce that they had available. Staff were friendly. Metered street and garage parking available in the area. +not-so-fresh sushi +call-aheads are encouraged +friendly service +metered street and garage parking available
