This place is in a small hidden area , very cute and cosy. We had a small lunch ordered a few things . Food is great !! Flavors are so good !! Everything tastes perfect . Only one thing that bothered me was the person who took care of us from start to finish was NOT friendly at all. No hello welcome , I asked her for any recommendations, she just said I don't know , I asked her for spicy , she said she didn't have any. I notice that she is also the cook Which is pretty cool , I would have gave her that 5th star but , she is just NOT FRIENDLY !

    Spoiled Spicy Tuna Roll

I came here and purchased a spicy tuna roll & California roll. I was served a spicy tuna roll with SPOILED spicy tuna. The smell and taste of spoiled fish is something I do not wish you experience. That's unfortunately not all sadly. The service here is not great, the old lady working there treats you like you are inconveniencing her. The restaurant is not cleaned after promptly as the tables are covered with dirty dishes and utensils. It takes a long while for your order to be done. They are also stingy with utensils, sauces, and napkins. You have to ask for them, and when you do the lady there again looks highly irritated with you. The California roll only had a paper thin smear of avocado on it. I am so disappointed and I hope I don't get sick from this place. I was just trying to support a local business but will never be returning here again.

Delicious! Ordered take out and it was ready quickly. I just wish they didn't use Styrofoam take out containers.

Surprisingly good Japanese food in a humble strip center on the agricultural outskirts of Oxnard. We stopped in here for a quick bento lunch on the way to the Seabee museum, and we are glad we did :) The restaurant was clean and busy, always good signs at a sushi bar. We ordered 3 bento boxes, a chicken teriyaki bowl, and two sushi rolls. The spicy tuna roll here was the best I had in California - very close to the way I make mine at home. The teriyaki chicken bowl came out hot and fresh with a pleasant sauce covering the chicken, on fluffy SEASONED sushi rice. So many lazy Japanese places don't rinse or season the rice for their donburi bowls, which should always be done. It's a pet peeve of mine. This place did both, which means they know what they are doing with the rice - a foundational food in Japan. The bentos have a good variety of freshly made Japanese favorites: miso soup, shrimp and vegetable tempura (depending on the order), 4 pc California roll, and salad. I got the sashimi and sushi combo bento, which had thick delicious pieces of yellowtail, ahi tuna, and salmon over spiralized daikon. The sashimi was perfect, and is THE proof that the food here is very good. There is no hiding any flaws in sashimi - it's either great or awful. This sashimi was great, and for that we give this jewel of a place 5 excellent sushi and sashimi stars Eat here if you live in or pass through Oxnard. You'll be glad you did.

This Japanese restaurant is owned by a Korean pastor and his wife from what I remember my parents told me. They have a great lunch menu consisting of bento boxes for ~$7.99, a tofu bowl for ~$4.50 and a California handroll for ~$3.50, which my co-workers and I ordered. The food came out quick during a busy lunch hour and everything tasted good. Only thing the restaurant needs a bit improvement is listening to the customer's needs because my co-worker Griselda had mentioned to the chef to not add onions to her tofu bowl if it came with any (she's highly allergic to onions) and when she got her bowl, she found one sliver of it throughout her meal. I know it's only one piece but it worried me that would if there were more pieces in her meal and she could have gotten hives in reaction to the one piece. Jussayin. I have came here many times for dinner than lunch and I would say my dinner experience here is 24163 times better than my first lunch experience today and 836247 times better sushi here than the sushi served at City Buffet across the street where they used actual canned tuna in their sushi :)

    Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box

A solid 4 stars. Delicious and inexpensive! I've been here a handful of times and each experience has been very good! My last experience was April 16th, 30 minutes before closing. I was in a sushi mood and didn't want to drive far and this place is 5 minutes away. I ordered a Teriyaki Chicken bento box (which comes with 2 big scoops of rice, LOTS of teriyaki chicken, four pieces of Cali roll, salad, 2 fried pot stickers and a tempura shrimp) all for $6.95 and a Crunch Roll. My eyes were much bigger than my stomach because when I got the food I was astounded by the amount of containers I received. The guy who took my order gave me extra Cali rolls since they were closing soon, which I appreciated. He gave me extra condiments for everything. I'm sure you could have guessed, but I did NOT eat all my food. In fact when I put all my left overs together, it looked like one intact meal. DEFINITELY coming again!

I hadn't been here in a very long time and my husband suggested it for lunch the other day. I was excited to eat here again! The restaurant is small, but clean and well lit. The staff greeted and seated us right away and as we sat down a party of five came in (large for this size restaurant). We were not handed menus and my husband grabbed two off the counter for us instead. When the woman came to take our drink orders she first went to the party of five, seated after us, and got their orders first. When she came to our table I asked for a Diet Coke and was told they were out. They also had no other diet drinks so I ordered a water. After she left our table my husband reminded me we had sodas in our car in the parking lot so I brought one in. Then the woman came back to our table and happily informed us she had located a Diet Coke for me. It was cold and I accepted it even though I already had opened my own. I ordered a cucumber salad and a shrimp tempura crunch roll. I was surprised when the roll came out with two sauces slathered all over it. I asked about them and was told one was spicy mayo. I can't handle spicy foods so I ordered a second roll without the spicy mayo. The staff (man and woman) defended the roll and checked the menu to confirm the sauce was "pictured" (the pictures are very small and the sauce was not listed in the description of the roll). I said it was my fault and asked them to make me another roll. The second roll came without any sauce so I had to ask for eel sauce, which was promptly provided. The cucumber salad was the strangest and least appealing I've ever had at a Japanese restaurant and I order this salad at pretty much every single Japanese restaurant I eat at. It consisted of a bed of lettuce (very unusual for this kind of salad) and cucumber *sticks* arranged on top. Everything was coated in a dressing that was too spicy for me (also unusual for this salad). It felt as if someone saw that Japanese restaurants serve a "cucumber salad" and came up with their own guess as to what that meant without actually having had a cucumber salad (sunomono) at any other restaurant. Even Lazy Dog (not a Japanese restaurant) makes a more authentic Japanese Cucumber Salad than Maki. Very strange and disappointing. My second roll was delicious and I would definitely order it again. Second roll was 4 stars for sure as was the fact that they didn't charge us for the first roll even though I would have paid (and we tipped heavily to compensate for the uncharged roll). Pretty much everything else was 2-3 stars and if I return here I think I'll stick to my roll (without spicy sauce). PS my husband enjoyed his bento box of teriyaki chicken just fine. I tried some and it was very good.

First, the gal who took our order was super friendly and helpful. The food was really good. Reminded me of We had the original chicken wings, japchae, kimbap, bulgogi bowl and the yuzu and grape ades. All of the dishes were wonderful. Chicken was nice and crispy --good flavor throughout and not greasy at all! The japchae had a great balance of flavors and the shiitake mushrooms, in particular, had really great flavor--must have been marinated for a long time to soak up all the juices! The kimbap was delicious! It was fresh and the pickle in it (Japanese call it takuan, idk what its name in Korean is) was super mild. It didn't overpower the other ingredients. The bulgogi was a solid dish. It had also the glass noodles on one side and plenty of meat and veggies. A good, well-rounded dish. We will come back for bing soo after the kid finishes finals, if it isn't too late! A local regular enthusiastically suggested we try it, so we will be back. The drinks were really delicious as well. Not too sweet and refreshing taste--I think each one is handmade individually. Overall, I highly recommend this place. It has all of the taste of real Korean home cooking at a good price point. You can get quality dishes in a casual in-and-out setting. We will be back for sure!

The bibimbap was very standard -- nothing special or memorable about it. It tasted like a typical Korean bibimbap you can get at many other places, but here it was priced at $12.75, while I've seen similar dishes at other restaurants for under $8. The wings were the same story. A small portion of five wings costs $12.99, and while they tasted fine, they were just ordinary Korean fried wings. Nothing about them really stood out to justify the price. Overall, the food is decent, but there's nothing unique or special that makes the higher prices make sense. In my opinion, the only thing that stands out about this restaurant is that it's overpriced for what it offers.

After a long day on the beach at Oxnard our family stopped by on a Sunday evening for a quick dinner before driving home. The restaurant is seemingly the only survivor left in a strip mall food court, leaving, after sunset, an almost eerie feel with the restaurant taking up one corner of an otherwise empty courtyard. We ordered and our food came quite quickly. We got the Tonkotsu Ramen ($13), which was quite poor; while the proportions were generous the broth was off and the ingredients melded together a bit too much, like a stew kept on for too long. The dinner bento box with teriyaki salmon ($17) was decent though, with great tempura vegetables, excellent fried gyoza, and good, if generic, salmon and spicy tuna maki side. We also got the B.S. II roll (whatever that stands for; $14), a California roll topped with cooked scallops and shrimp and spicy mayo. We've had many variants of this before (my spouse being a cooked sushi fan) and this was fairly mid, as the foodies say these days. A special note should be said for the service; our waitress, while quite busy by the end of the evening, attended to our needs, added on drinks later, and even put on the game at my request. Value, listed above, I found to be quite favorable. The food quality was limited, yet this still made for great budget pick. My expectations weren't high for this Fisherman, but he met them. The steady stream of pickup drivers and other families who came to that empty mall are telling, however. This is a stalwart, stubborn shop in a dying mall - an adequate, budget-friendly sushi place for the people. I can appreciate that. Food: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Service: 4.5/5 Value: 5/5

This restaurant has character that's for sure. Inside are eager chefs and friendly service, even after all these years. The prices are still insanely reasonable too. Grateful that they can serve up fresh sushi at such reasonable prices. Their classic rolls and fried appetizers are also fantastic. My friend and I would both highly recommend their shrimp tempura. Fried up fresh, the batter was crispy and delicate. For rolls, go with the Fisherman's house roll as it was garlicky with a good sauce and fresh. We had a really good time here and definitely feel like it's a well kept secret to those who weren't born and raised here as for lunch it was pretty dead inside. There is NO sushi here (they make that very clear), just kushiyaki, small plates, and goooood vibes. I've never been to Japan (yet), but I would imagine this is what it would be like walking into a small mom and pop shop there. The open kitchen is tiny but fun to watch, and from pretty much any seat you can see your food being made. It's a GREAT date night spot, order a bunch of dishes and share everything so much fun. We came for dinner and with a rotating menu of skewers and specials we were satisfied and it kept things interesting! Lunch is more limited, with preset options, but the quality still hits. Take it easy with the ordering (they are typically skewer by skewer because you can easily rack up a hefty bill!) If you're looking for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience in Ventura, focused on flavor, not trends, Gotetsu absolutely delivers.

Ambiance- seating inside is generally small tables close together and the dining area is on the smaller side. An open kitchen area is behind the counter, but they also have more kitchen space behind in the back. They layout really reminded me of Tokyo Ramen houses that are designed for solo single eaters (as a lot of Tokyo casual dining is). During my meal, the majority of us at tables were solo eaters, only 1 other table had 2 diners. So I imagine if you're a larger party it, it may be hard to get seating at busier times due to smaller number of tables. Ordered- Tokatsu ShuShu ramen. The noodles were springy and bouncy. The broth is creamy and tasty. I still think I really enjoy Silverlake Ramen's Tonkatsu broth (I don't know what their secret ingredient is that makes it unique) but URamen's is still satisfying. I had 4 pieces of Chashu, 1/2 of a seasoned soft boiled egg. The yolk is seasoned in a very sweet sauce- interesting taste. They add a wonton crisp which is unusual for Ramen bowl! I would've like nori crisp but that's ok. Service- One server was taking care of the lunch crowd. The owners are Thai, and I believe the server is also Thai. She was quite polite. Usually I think most Thai restaurants offer that super kind, and humble service to customers. (I say this as Korean Ame, it's noticeably different than immigrant run Korean or Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants) I do prefer the taste of Silverlake Ramen, BUT they have even more limited seating. The parking and access here is easier and quicker than going to the Collection Annex, so I think this is another solid Ramen place. Note- They are closed on Mondays, and closed between 3-5pm everyday. The first time I came, was during their closed time.
