Maki Togo is not where people would think they would find a neat little Asian fusion spot. Right off the Noho Metro line on Lankershim, you can walk a block to a Ford dealership called Sunrise Ford. Inevitably, salesmen will ask if you need help finding a car. Tell them you're there for the food and they'll simply vanish, off to find someone else to try and sell a car to. Walk through the automatic doors and take a left at the reception desk; you can't miss it. Maki Togo is authentic and always prepared fresh. I know car dealership sushi doesn't sound like a great idea, but you need to trust me--it's worth it, and you can't beat the prices or portions. Every roll you order typically comes with sides and even though the menu isn't massive, the food is consistently good. You won't be disappointed. Some of my favorite non-sushi dishes are the don katsu, salmon poke bowl, and chicken teriyaki. The ramen isn't bad either! And if you like it spicy, tell them.

It all worked so well together. I also got the Hama Chili nigiri and it was super different, in a good way. The red powder was something different I haven't tasted before so I can't describe it. The fish was buttery soft. So fresh and flavorful. And the Baby Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice Cake was easily one of the best crispy rice dishes I've had. The ratio of spicy tuna to crispy rice was perfect and the portions were actually good too, which a lot of places mess up. Every bite was perfect. Everything tasted really fresh and looked pretty too. I want to come back with my sisters and see what they think

We ate here last night, and shortly after I started vomiting and dealing with diarrhea throughout the entire night. It was one of the worst reactions I've had after eating out. What's even more frustrating is that I tried calling the restaurant afterward to notify them and discuss the situation, but I couldn't get ahold of anyone even after leaving a voicemail. I understand things can happen, but food safety should be taken seriously, and the lack of response afterward made the situation even worse. Very disappointed after what had previously been good experiences here.

No. This isn't that kind of place, and Taisho doesn't have that kind of menu. However, is this a good place to listen to decent music, sip a fun cocktail, and pass around some aesthetic Asian fusion dishes? Absolutely. It's a vibe on the weekends, there's semi-patio seating in the back, and there's valet parking right out front on Ventura Blvd. Taisho is a good option for dinner before a night out, or to catch up with a friend. Seating options are plentiful, too. The bar area is nice, the seats are comfy. The interior can fill up during peak hours. The outside seating in the front is a hard pass for me because it's so close to the street and seems isolated from the rest, but some people do prefer to sit out there. Street parking is available albeit competitive. Don't forget to pay the meter and check posted signs.

Making a reservation was very easy, and everything went smoothly from start to finish. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted right away and seated promptly. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The restaurant is a bit dimly lit, but it really adds to the cozy and upscale atmosphere. One thing I immediately noticed was how clean all of the grills were. We chose the AYCE option (around $55 per person), and the pricing for kids was very reasonable. Our 5-year-old was charged a reduced rate, while our 3-year-old ate free, which was a nice bonus for families. The selection of meats was excellent, with plenty of options to choose from. They do have a 90-minute dining limit and a surcharge for excessive leftovers, but that wasn't an issue for us because everything was delicious. The appetizer selection was surprisingly large. We enjoyed the beef fried rice, noodles, a sushi roll, crispy tofu, chicken karaage, and shiitake mushrooms. The crispy tofu turned out to be spicier than we expected, so just keep that in mind if ordering for kids. However, spice lovers will probably enjoy it! The chicken karaage was a huge hit with the kids, especially with the spicy mayo on the side. The shiitake mushrooms were also incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned. We also ordered crispy rice spicy tuna, we loved it too! What really stood out was the service. Every server we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Instead of simply dropping off food and walking away, they took time to check in, ask how we were doing, and connect with us. That personal touch made the experience feel special. We only ordered water since we had already had plenty of drinks earlier in the day, but they offer a variety of beverages as well. For dessert, we tried the mochi ice cream special--two for $5--which was a fantastic deal. In San Diego, it's common to pay around $5 for just one mochi ice cream, so we were pleasantly surprised. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and are so happy we chose Oku-Niku for my birthday celebration. Great food, excellent service, a family-friendly atmosphere, and a memorable dining experience. We'll definitely be back!

Excellent service, If you're tempted to try but not committing to the din price tags try them for the lunch special. Parking may be tricky as the area is typically busy but we usually find street parking nearby, a nice walk is good after a AYCE. PSA/FYI: for Me -- "HOT" is not literal for spice/temp but for a Like/loveable item!
