Delicious! What a hidden gem in this area. It's a quaint little unassuming Japanese restaurant in Burbank that's been around for over 40 years (the chef told me that part)--for a good reason! What's really surprising was their SUSHI selection! Not only are the prices shockingly affordable but the quality is definitely memorable. I wish they focused their business on the sushi since it's so fresh - give it a try! Food: - Mixed Tempura ($15) - really wanted to try this outside of the bento box and it's very lightly battered and crispy. Holds true to the texture and flavors of a delicious tempura experience. Recommended! - Shishito pepper appetizer ($7): these are lightly fried peppers which a light glaze which really pops the flavor. I definitely ate all of these. There's a slight spice from the seeds but it's an easy item to consume as an appetizer! - Spicy garlic edamame ($4.5): that a lot of garlic! Love the spice (it's not too much) and overall a great combo. Classic option for those who enjoy edamame! - Udon: alright so their Udon noodles are quite springy and perfect in texture. Wow. Their broth is the clear winner - clean and mild soup without use of MSG. I can see why others recommend this option. Extremely craveable for one of those cold nights. - Sashimi : at this point my party was already getting adequately full BUT omg. I had pieces of their salmon, tuna, yellowtail. The sashimi was such high quality with each bite I took and kept going for more and more. Nothing was frozen so I had to talk with the head chef about their sushi game because it's not a pronounced part of their menu. Apparently they only know how to handle high quality fish from his training so it's a given to only serve the freshest fish. I could tell with the quality...and it's not even classified as a sushi forward restaurant. What a hidden superpower they have! I'm impressed! 6 stars! And their prices are shockingly lower than the competition. This hidden gem aspect needs to be known. Give their sushi menu a shot! Their rolls are $9.99 too! Ok I'm done. - radish garnish: haha, my mom was with me so she typically eats the radish bedding garnish and she was surprised how good this was. Not dry, semi sweet, and a refreshing texture. Pros: - high high high quality Japanese food. Try their sushi, you wont regret it! - pretty big portions for the price! - quaint restaurant which is closer to quick service than a full service. Perfect for a casual meal without breaking the bank and when you dont need glitz and glam or a server. - ample free parking in the lot. Next to a Handels and Vons! - you order and pay at the front! Really makes for efficiency. Cons: - wish they were open for longer in the evening. But hey I get it not all businesses can do this. I missed the evening option once since I ran out of time but I finally got to try it during the day time. In the end I'm glad I tried out Emon. There's a slight Korean influence to this Japanese meal and it only strengthens the experience without breaking the bank. I also hear they make their own Teriyaki sauce on a weekly basis, so they really do try and put as much thought into their food as you can imagine. I'll be back! Truly a hidden gem in Burbank! Decided to come here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. They are located in the same plaza as Vons, Bea Bea's, and Handel's. The plaza is rather large so parking isn't much of an issue. The space was clean and provided ample seating. Don't be like me and sit before ordering! You are supposed to walk up, order, then sit. Staff were friendly and the bento boxes were huge! We ordered one chicken and one beef teriyaki and mixed tempura bento boxes, one can of soda, and with tip totaled about $50. A bit pricey but considering the size, it was easily two meals for us. This spot is definitely going to be added to my list of go-tos! read more

Now that I've moved back to Burbank, my kids finally get to experience one of my OG spots... and they crave it too. The photos say it all. The bento boxes are HUGE. The bean sprouts? Addictive. I genuinely wish I could order a side of them to-go. The salad and tsukemono are so fresh and flavorful they could honestly be a meal on their own. We always go back for the same favorites- you cannot skip the tempura. It's light, perfectly crisp, and never heavy. Everything tastes fresh, simple, and clean. No fuss, just really good food. This time we ordered the tuna hand roll, lemon cut roll, chicken & tempura bento, and chicken teppan. The sushi is fresh and straightforward. I also love the gyu don and their udon (didn't order them this time, but they're always solid). It's walk-up ordering, you can grab drinks from the fridge, and sit down or take it to go. We had a recent Friday evening meal at Emon. The restaurant is located along Pass Ave in the same plaza as Von's, Bea Bea's and Handel's. It's a family run Japanese restaurant serving bentos and sushi. This was our first time trying Emon. I went with the beef teriyaki + shrimp tempura bento ($18) and the lady ordered a chicken teri + tempura bento ($17). The bentos came with side salad, tsukemono, bean sprouts, rice plus miso soup to start. This is a good value for the food you get. The teriyaki was good. The beef teriyaki is cut into thin pieces, kind of like bulgogi. FYI. The tempura was ok. I feel as if the batter needs a little seasoning or something. Maybe I came on an off night. The bento looks great, the miso soup is a requisite starter for any Japanese meal IMO, you get a good amount of food but flavor was a little lacking with the tempura for me. We also got an eel roll ($8.50) and that was good. You get 5 good sized cut pieces that are filled with unagi, avocado and cucumber then drizzled with eel sauce. I liked it. Service was really good. The gentleman that took our order and that brought us our food was very nice and helpful. We do wanna go back and try some of their other offerings. We got the mixed tempura bento and the shrimp tempura was HUGE. The miso soup has lots of seaweed in it and the spicy tuna in the Ocean roll was really good. The man who was ringing us up was so helpful with suggestions I suspect he may have been the owner. He recommended getting both the cucumber and Napa kimchi and I'm glad I did because I ended up liking the cucumber more. Simple, but elegant. It's a phrase that could describe a lot of Japanese culture, but summed to a tee, this is Emon. From the outside, nothing screams simple like signage that just reads, "Japanese Food." For years I mocked that sign..."what kind of food do you think they serve there?" Then I moved into the neighborhood and was told there was an amazing Japanese restaurant near us. To my surprise, it was that place and I finally had to give it a try. Inside the simplicity remains...it's a bunch of tables and mostly bare walls. If not for the sign on the building and some Japanese snacks sold at the counter, you'd never know what kind of restaurant it was until you order your food. The menu, again, is simple: bento boxes, rice bowls, noodles, and sushi. Their main staple are the bento boxes. All come with rice, salad, and pickles...the main dish/protein is the only difference. The teriyaki meats are delicious and grilled to perfection. The teppan yaki, while lacking the showmanship of Benihana, is a wonderful mix of stir fried beef or chicken with vegetables. I've yet to have their signature curry, but surprisingly the Korean BBQ short ribs are some of the best I've had. Some of the bento boxes come with tempura...since I live close by, most of the time I take my orders to go. Tempura is not a to go or delivery food. A lot of times, I've had tempura in the restaurant and even there it goes soggy and cold before it hits the table. Not here. One of the best tempuras I've ever had...the veggies are tender, the shrimp cooked perfectly, and the batter stays perfectly crisp and crunchy no matter how long you let it sit. While side dishes are something to look past, here they are not. Westerners think of balanced meals as a health metric, the Japanese consider balance in terms of flavor and visual presentation. The salad, rice, and pickles offer the color and flavor contrasts to the dish. The pickles are bright, sour, salty, crunchy. The salad dressing, which they sell by the jar, is garlicky...sweet...salty, poured over a brightly colored mixed salad. The white rice isn't soggy or too dry, just sticky enough to be picked up by a pair of chopsticks. The rice, carefully layered out onto the plate, act like a canvas for the meats that are served on top of it. In harmony, it adds up to umami, both visually and in taste; palette and palate. If you want even more comfort, opt for one of their udon noodle soups...perfect for those cold nights. While I'm not a fan of thick noodles, these are excellent. They sit in a flavorful broth of beef, chicken, tofu, or shrimp. It is a salt bomb in the best way possible. Each spoonful makes you want to slurp up more until you're drinking the final drops from the bowl. At this point, nothing should surprise me about this place, but we finally ordered the sushi one day and it did. This is not Nobu or n/Naka, but it might as well be. Yeah, maybe that was an oversell, but if you want good, fresh, quality, simple sushi, this is the place to go. To the rest of us, bento boxes may seem nothing more than a combo plate or a lunch box, but in Japanese culture, it can be a symbol of love. Emon has served everyone from Johnny Carson to, well, me. If you dine in you'll realize that the stream of people ordering food aren't just customers, they're regulars. They don't just ask how are you, they ask how your parents or children are doing. That love is shown in every order and it's no surprise that Emon has been giving out that love now for 41 years and I hope they continue to do so for many more years. read more

The inside of the restaurant had a decent amount of seating with a lot of cute decor! They offered a variety of drinks, the milk tea was my favorite. As for food, I ordered the curry which was a HUGE portion and very delicious! My friend ordered the sashimi as well as the hand rolls which were both tasty with the hand rolls being the best.
