I absolutely love this place! One of my favorite sushi spots, it was introduced to me by a friend who lives in the area. They have the best prices and amazing quality! There are no servers which is fine because I only order takeout. They have some tables inside but don't expect full service. If you need something, you go ask at the counter. This is my go-to sushi spot for awhile now because of how fresh and delicious it is every time! Not to mention the value for the quality is unbeatable in my opinion. I'll usually put in an order by phone and pick it up for lunch but it's also very quick when I've ordered in person. The customer service is great and the owner's cheerfulness is lovely. If you're dining in, just note that it's more of a pick-up at the counter and self-serve type of place (which works fine for me) and I still felt like they were attentive if I needed anything. The chicken teriyaki was cooked well, not overdone, and with the right amount of sauce. The portion was also generous, beating out places like Flame Broiler for the amount of protein you're getting. The location is tucked away in a small plaza, very subtle but very noticeable. Soon as I walked in I noticed they were a bit busy, so then having doordash pick up option was perfect! The lady at the register was so kind and so quick to assist me. Another thing I absolutely loved was that they packed up my order so nice and tight, along with utensils and sauces. Was out here traveling and checked Yelp for a place that was opened around 8 pm. Thankfully, this dive was open because we were hungry for Asian food and it was located within a couple of miles from where we were staying. It is a tiny hole in the wall restaurant that is sandwiched between a 7 Eleven and a tattoo parlor. The small dining area had a few tables on each side. They were closing in 30 minutes which likely explains the lack of customers. One thing thing that really bothered me was the large rack of dirty dishes on the edge of the dining area. In addition, there were a few tables that had not been cleared yet. Not sure why since they weren't busy. We placed our orders for takeout at the counter. The boy taking our orders was polite and we were in and out of there within about 15 minutes. After a magical day at Disneyland, my sister found this place thanks to her new Yelp app! We both had low expectations because it doesn't look like much; it's next to a 7-11, in the middle of a small shopping complex within an industrial community. However, thanks to the generally positive Yelp reviews we decided to commit to Maki-Yaki! I was surprised by their extensive menu. Bento, sushi, and teriyaki oh my! I decided on #53, spicy pork bowl. Within about 5 minutes, I was devouring the well marinated sukiyaki style pork, with a solid kick. I was impressed by the meat to rice ratio. (Usually, bowls tend to me 80% rice and 20% meat.) Maki-Yaki is a small mostly to-go Japanese restaurant in Laguna Hills. I've been here countless times over the last 10+ years. The food here is pretty decent. The rolls aren't too expensive and they usually give you a free miso soup with every roll you order. Their portions are pretty big and 2 rolls is usually more than enough to fill me up. I enjoy their spicy tuna and then pretty much any roll they have with tuna on top. My wife likes their bento box and she also likes the spicy tuna roll. Last time, I tried the spicy California roll since it was only $5. It was okay. Basically, I think it was just a California roll with Siracha. What really stands out to me here is the service. Almost every single time I have been, everyone working is extremely friendly. There are usually only 2 - 3 people working and unless they are slammed with orders, they are always patient and very nice.
