We came last night to this location to celebrate my sister's birthday. Food was great. I forgot to take pics of the rest of it once it kept coming out. There was a sauteed Chinese green beans and beef dish and the honey walnut shrimp I didn't take photos that were quite delicious as well besides the dumplings. What made this even more special was the staff that worked last night. They were so attentive and accommodating. One of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to. The fortune house is part of a plaza and looks nice inside and outside has atmosphere. The server was very nice and helpful and the food tasted fresh. We got chicken taro egg rolls, dumpling sampler, yang Zhou fried rice, sesame chicken, tea smoked duck. The egg roll were thin but very crispy but I did wish it had more meat in it. The dumpling sampler was good and it was a nice way to try all their dumplings. The vegetarian dumpling was our favorite. The sesame chicken was really good, not too much breading, smoked duck was really good, it takes a while to cook and my chicken came out first so I was they came out together. The duck came out about 20 minutes after the chicken. Lastly, the fried rice was really good and light. I miss being able to come here for lunch every week! It's such a great spot for some comfort Chinese food that is delicious and quick with service! I'm so glad I was able to stop by here with my family again and even after a couple years, the flavors are still the same. It's almost tucked away in the back but definitely not a hole in the wall. The place is nice a cozy but great for groups. I recommend their soups, orange beef/chicken is always a hit and of course the soup dumplings. We also tried the cucumbers tonight- it has the best scallion oil marinade. Also ordered the spicy beef noodle & the pan fried dumpling-- which didn't hit the spot this time, but I would still order again just in case it was an off night. Have been disappointed by the times I've returned since they've changed ownership. Today, the AC was broken (in Texas summer!) and no heads up was given at the front. Wonderful Experience on the Patio! We had a fantastic dinner at Fortune House Chinese Cuisine! We arrived about an hour early for our reservation but were seated right away, which was a pleasant surprise. We chose to sit on the patio, and it was absolutely beautiful--peaceful, nicely set up, and a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Our server, Zayne, was amazing--very attentive, patient, and checked on us regularly without being overbearing. Great service really made the experience even better. We ordered a variety of dishes: orange chicken, fried rice, white rice, chicken lo mein, chicken dumplings, and the green beans. Everything was delicious and full of flavor, with generous portions--plenty of food for the three of us to share. Interesting spot tucked away in a shopping center. Ample seating from a bar area right at the entrance to the main dining area in the back with a "view" of the surrounding area as it sits a bit elevated. Felt a bit warm/humid inside but fortunately only 3 other tables a little after 7 on a Thursday (3 more came in before I left). Came in after reading recommendations on the best spot for XLB in greater Dallas area. I got an order of XLB, marinated duck, kao fu and sautéed bok choy seeking an authentic Shanghai experience. Service was meh, mostly prompt and friendly at least, place appeared clean and organized inside. Food started coming out 10 min after ordering. Kao fu came first and was warm, quite honestly would've preferred cold as the reheat caused it to become a bit tough and rubbery vs the airy and crisp texture it should be (and more likely to be without additional reheating after initial cook) - 3/5. XLB was next to come out and while some ginger slices were in a dish that was brought out, I had to specifically ask for traditional black vinegar as only white vinegar. Calamity struck shortly after however, while the container was marked vinegar, was actually filled with soy sauce, big L there and almost completely ruined a XLB. Order came out with 8pc and tbh probably the best I've had in the states, rivaling that of a much more expensive offering at Ding Tai Fun. Very thin wrap, delightful soup inside and a nice filling also. Easily 4/5 and would've been 5/5 if not for the vinegar/soy sauce mishap. (Could also afford to be less stingy on the ginger slices). Bok choy came out 3rd and was largely pretty solid. Main complaint in that it was lazily cut and retained way too much of the tough stem. 3/5 After 30 min and no duck I had to ask one of the waitstaff who was standing around with another just chatting. It did come out hot 5 min later and sauce and taste on point, very tender also. Serving size was very much a snack/appetizer portion and it was really just a leg cut up with a tiny bit of the thy, a lot of small bones and whatnot to work through. 4/5. Lastly, rice was a bit undercooked so I had maybe 2 bites and left it alone. Overall a nice spot with tasty and authentic food. Staff and service could work on attentiveness especially when the place sat mostly empty. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and feast out on XLB alone. read more

The Crab Rangoon (6pc) KEstf were very fishy making me question the freshness of ingredients they were also filled with grease which poured out on my hands as l held them. The fried rice was moist with brownish color but no sign of egg or other additives and devoid of flavor. But it was not greasy, so that was nice. First time at this location. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 1 PM. We first discovered this place during their soft opening at the Greenville location. This place must be their original location since it has a much older feel. The first thing I noticed was the off putting smell - like backed up sewage & overwhelming bathroom. I'm pretty sensitive to smells, but the smell was throughout the whole restaurant. (I think it's the cleaner they use, it's too strong smelling.) The second thing was the menus - they definitely need a reprint as both our menus had very faded ink & looked like they had been spilled on multiple times - I had to ask for a new one since I couldn't read the first one they gave me. Soup Dumplings - Good flavor. Dumplings did not stick to each other nor on the serving container. Skin was thin & plenty of soup inside. I would recommend these. Chow Mein (pork) - Good flavor. Pork was not overcooked. Salt & Pepper Fish - Nice a crispy. Good flavor. I think it could have been slightly stronger by about 10-20% & it would have been phenomenal. I would still recommend. Pan Fried Pork Buns - Bottoms of buns are lined with sesame seeds, which I thought was interesting. I'm not a fan of lots of sesame seeds, but the flavor was not too overwhelming. A lot of soul in these, which I found surprising. I would recommend. Overall, the food was spot on, but the environment definitely needs to be refreshed. The service was great - everyone was friendly, prompt, & food came out fast. I would have given this place a 5/5 if it wasn't for the run down feeling & off putting smell. One of the worst things I hate to do is spend a lot of money on bad food. The noodles had absolutely no flavor, the General Tso chicken tasted like buffalo chicken.. the sesame chicken had absolutely no flavor. You have to ask yourself, who taste checks these sauces. The soup dumplings were the size of a half dollar. No soup in the actual dumplings. I asked for fried dumplings and I got slightly toasted shrimp dumplings. Look, all I'm saying is this place really needs to do a quality check on what they send out the kitchen. It's like they rely on ppl not knowing what actual good food tastes like so the can continue pushing out this garbage. Stay away from the noodles as well. Disappointing this time around. This was my mom's favorite Shanghainese restaurant and she wanted to come for Mother's Day this year. Service was there (hence adding the two stars) but the food was such a disappointment. The food literally came in less than 10 minutes after we placed the order... that should've been the first sign. Smoked Fish - my mom was really looking forward to this dish as we can't find any other restaurants that make this. Last time we had this, it was amazing so we were excited this time. They must have switched chefs because this was very disappointing. The fish BARELY had any meat and the sauce was soo bitter (almost seems like they added too much of the dark or thick soy sauce). The only thing I can say about this dish that's good was that it was crispy Sichuan Boiled Fish - Disappointing! The amount of fish, cabbage, bean sprouts inside was okay but the taste was lacking. I did not taste any of the spiciness or the numbness that you are supposed to get from the peppercorns. It almost looked like they threw in crushed red peppers on top (the ones you see on pizza ) Orange Chicken - Decent! The chicken was moist and crunchy and the flavor was there. I personally wouldn't order this dish again but my mom and brother enjoyed it. Yan Du Xian - broth was flavorful with the pork bones but super lacking in the bamboo shoots and added plenty of tofu skin (wonder why ) Eggplant in Hot Garlic Sauce - I would recommend this dish. Eggplant wasn't overly mushy and the sauce was tasty! Hong Shan Rou - decent. Would I order this again? Not for the price listed. For $22 I would hope the amount of pork would be a good amount but was disappointed. Yes there were a good few bigger pieces (like 5) but I do not think it was worth this price. Pork was tender though and bok choy was crunchy Honey Walnut Shrimp - I couldn't try this as they added pineapple (my fault for not disclosing this as a food allergy) but I was surprised as pineapples are not usually added to this dish. My mom said that the shrimp was battered well and it was crunchy. However, the walnuts didn't taste right and to her, tasted like it was old/stale. Pan Fried Pork Bun - added another star (to make it 3 star) because they did this dish right. The pork was flavorful and plenty of soup inside without the dough being overly thick. We ordered two of these. Though, I was surprised that they did not immediately provide the vinegar with this dish.. we had to ask for it Overall, I don't think we will visit this place again as the prices went up but quality/taste went down. read more

I ordered some food from here on Monday from Uber and had delivered to my office. I was really craving some braised pork belly so I got the Hong Shao Rou and the Vegetable Egg Rolls. I loved how tender the pork belly was and it was cooked long enough to the right amount of fat was there!!! The flavor was delicious and also the bok choy was not mushy or overcooked. The soup dumplings were all touching at the edges and they stuck together which made it impossible to pick one up without tearing an edge of the wrapper and spilling out all the soup inside. The mapu tofu was also flawed: it had no visible pork in it and was a bit bland in both heat and flavor. Perhaps the chef was having an off day because my friend usually does not steer me wrong. The service was generally good but I was left sitting for 10 minutes with an empty water glass at one point.
