They also have Chinese food and Korean food which I guess is not all that uncommon but for me, it's kinda all over the place. The service is alright nothing special. Your order first and they bring you the food and forget about you. Need more water get your butt up and get it yourself and the decor. Let's just say it's not somewhere I would take someone to impress. The food to me was tasteless and I didn't feel like I was eating sushi, instead something rolled up in rice. I absolutely adore this little place. :) the people working are always super kind and helpful; very friendly and make you feel like a priority. It's one of those hole in the wall places for sushi. Very tiny place that can get super busy with crowded seating. Walk in, look at menu, order through cashier & they bring your food afterwards. If you need any Togo's or plastic bags, then you would have to go ask the cashier. It's more of a self serve place which isn't bad at all considering everything ordered for a decent price. Good food at GREAT prices! Large portions too. The shrimp tempura was Lightly battered and not greasy at all. The shrimp used were large and well seasoned. The pineapple fried rice was yummy and a very large portion, which made my husband really happy. The seafood soup has this great spicy tomato broth and a lot of shrimp, crawfish, and clams in it. That broth is da bomb! Oh, and stop by the condiment bar (automatically included with your order). The broccoli, cucumbers, and bean sprouts are pickled! Bae and I love Ramen (don't get me started on phō... ). We were gonna check out Monkey King Noodle Co. but changed our minds once we saw photos from here. Pretty awesome reviews and some pretty common Japanese dishes we love here. The menu was exciting! Most of everything is called soup, but each soup is paired with a different style noodle (udon and ramen to name a couple). Udon is a thick type of wheat flour noodle; ramen is a a way thinner version of udon, it looks like curly/wavy edible hair from an angel and it certainly taste like it too. Ordered was the Seafood Udon (without squid) and the Daily Special - Mini Miso Ramen (replace tofu with chicken) + 10 piece sushi roll ("itamae" or sushi chief's option). Sushi came out first and it was formed into a similar rainbow roll on their menu. It also looked like a caterpillar. The rice had the perfect consistency and the ingredients really fresh for the value and quality I received. The California Roll stuffed inside the roll had a smooth texture on every bite and full of flavor. The Seafood Udon had a a mild flavor to it and udon was soft and chewy but I preferred the miso ramen. Their miso is their most popular soup recipe. It's so smooth and perfectly salty and tangy paired with the wheat from the ramen and the chicken which adds a whole extra layer of insaneness! Sat patiently for 30 minutes even tho there were others already eating. Asked the cashier how much longer, she said that they're only waiting on a fried rice order. Out of the pineapple fried rice, Dragon roll, ramen, none tasted too remarkable, but my friend did like the Very Berry Smoothie oddly enough :P The presentation of the pineapple was a cool plus. It's actually IN a pineapple! Fair warning: they do not allow dine-in for orders within a half hour of closing, but you are allowed to place to go orders. First experience- I asked how big the ramen was with the Ramen+10pc special and decided it was too small. So I ordered a large ramen and a 6pc roll separately. When I received the order, they said I paid for a small bowl with my 6pc. That doesn't even make sense. I would have just ordered the combo for much cheaper. I didn't cause a scene and just ate my meal. Ramen was good but sushi was just okay. Fresh but not a very high grade fish. Second experience at this place- I ordered a 10pc and teriyaki salmon and my friend got a ramen and 6pc roll. When the food arrived, they brought everything except my salmon and said it wasn't ordered. My friend paid for my order so I didn't make a big deal since they were not charged for it. At first you would think, what is a Sushi place doing here? Well, looks like cheap rent equals great sushi rolls for cheap. Most being $5-$6 for the 6 pieces and $8-$9 for the 12 pieces. The set up is a bit different, since you order everything at the register then grab a seat, but the food is amazing. On our latest excursion, we had the Spicy Tuna Roll, Florida Roll, Caterpillar Roll, and Dragon Roll. I am partial to the Dragon Roll since I love eel, but I enjoyed all of them. Ordered a bowl of MIso soup (only .75 cents). Each order comes with complimentary Kimchee, I especially loved the broccoli and the beansprouts! The sushi was well presented and we received plenty of dipping sauce as well as wasabi. We also tried the smoothies, all the fruit taste without any of the graininess you find at other places. Lastly the interior, I really loved the eye candy decor. The dining areas (there are two) have a nice intimate feel. The cooks wear waving kitty Happi robes. I saw that there is a full bar offering there too! There was sake, Japanese and domestic beers, wine and full fledged liquors. I am thinking a possible date or small happy hour spot. The broccoli in teriyaki sauce is just amazing and those cucumbers are great. The sushi is awesome and I always feel like Ive eaten so much for a great price without compromising on quality. Ive tried so many things there from the pineapple fried rice to the eel bowl. Wow, they all taste so great and they have great service they are very friendly and always so helpful. I look forward to trying there lunch specials but I have a feeling that they probably get pretty darn busy during lunch. You can never go wrong with the Texas roll, Dragon roll or the shrimp tempura. I will say I do like the value of MB. I mean, you truly can't beat their deals on sushi rolls because everywhere else in Irving for sushi costs your firstborn child. So if you want some quick California rolls to go this would be a decent choice. I also think the quality is not as up there as it used to be back in the day. This place tends to be a hit or miss with the rolls. Perhaps I should venture out and try other dishes. Some of the sashimi as well IMO doesn't look extremely fresh. I've definitely had better and sometimes, you do just need to pay more when it comes to this type of cuisine. Quality over quantity type of situation. Also the joint is so cramped and small I wouldn't recommend bringing people here for a sit down dinner. There are better places to go plain and simple. But try it out for some takeout. My take away is this: This isn't a place I would go to get a serious sushi fix, but I would come back here for lunch because of the incredibly price for the amount of food that they give you. While it's not what I would normally eat (pretty much california rolls) it was fresh, fast and the service was great. The banchan wasn't the freshest (broccoli and kimchi a little old) and the ramen was the kind I have in my pantry, but the broth was excellent and it actually had seafood in it! I was very surprised by Maki Boy. Another don't judge a book by its cover entry! Almost impossible to notice from Beltline, I hope these folks can stay in business. Small dining space and an order/pay first set up. Drinks are self-serve along with helping yourself to a small assortment of condiments like kimchi. I ordered a spicy tuna roll (surprise) and loved it. From the rice (which had some sort of seasoning flakes on it) to the sauce in the roll, it was delicious with a good kick. For my main dish, I stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered something I'd never tried: jobche as written on the menu (or japchae as it's traditionally spelled). I loved it! Why I have not eaten this before is beyond me. Stir fried with the noodles was beef, mushroom, spinach, carrots, and broccoli. AND with a size of rice (why the extra starch I don't know). For the price, you get a good sized portion of food. The staff was very friendly and attentive. And, this is regardless of after you order, you're on your own. I liked that they cared enough to still see how you are doing after you order. There are plenty of other dishes on the menu that I can't wait to try. If my follow up visits turn out as good as this one, I may bump the rating to 5 stars! read more

I love sushi, but fresh, good sushi is so expensive that I almost never indulge....until I found Maki Boy! Maki Boy is the sushi lover's dream, affordable, fresh, and very generous portions! Chef Charlie is there, day and night, turning out winner after winner. Their typical 12-piece roll will be plenty for a complete meal, complement your roll with a .75 cent side of miso and a drink and you're going to pay about $10! Unlike most sushi restaurants, lunch and dinner are the same menu/price. It's a very casual eatery and I get take out from there probably as often as I dine in. The staff is very friendly and accommodating if you have special requests or questions. They have a fairly impressive selection of beer, wine, including many Asian beers and wines to try also at reasonable prices. The fish and seafood is exceptionally fresh, I've eaten there many, many times and have yet to have anything that doesn't taste absolutely perfect. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite dish, although I do love their Rainbow Rolls. For those wanting to try something new (and are not on a diet), be sure to try the Volcano Roll! It is a California roll with a baked Scallop/seafood cream sauce on top. It's about $10 and I have never been able to eat one of these by myself. It would make a hearty appetizer to share between 2 or 3 (or possibly even 4) people. It's very filling and maybe a bit heavy eaten by oneself, but it's oh so heavenly! If you like spicy foods, their Spicy Tuna is great, as is the Jalapeño Roll (it sounds odd, maybe, but it's delicious!!!) There is something for everyone, vegetarian rolls for vegetarians, the chicken and beef options for those who don't like fish, cooked and raw fillings, you name it, they probably have it! They also have Tempura and Udon dishes, fried rice, soups salads and Korean B.B.Q. I believe the most expensive thing on their menu is $12, with most dishes averaging $7-9. There is a a semi-private room for small parties of 8 to maybe 10 people, which is a nice touch.
