Despite the name, Mala Town does indeed offer tasty non-spicy broth options alongside other Sichuan spiced broths plus a plethora of veggies/meat/tofu/seafood/carbs, and a sauce bar. Easy to customize a bowl that fits your taste buds and can easily scale up or down depending on your appetite. Paul and staff are always very welcoming and will make sure you are well fed and taken care of. Added to the rotation of Spring Mountain restaurants! :) read more

The second order we placed though you could really tell the difference and the premium short rib looked and tasted amazing. Meats are really thin, sometimes too thin that they break apart. Kinda silly you're limited to ordering one order of crawfish per person, as it's just two cooked previously frozen crawfish, not good or special at all. Between the shabu and sushi and all the side dishes, there is a massive variety of food you can order. It took kind of a while after ordering to get the meat, not sure if it's to try to slow you down and not eat at much because it was surprisingly how long it took with the restaurant pretty empty. Overall, I would return, ideally for a cheaper lunch or late night menu as the all day menu was a bit on the pricy side.

Service was pretty fast, and when they bring out your hot pot, they bring it on a metal heating device with a sterno candle inside that they light. After only a couple of seconds, the pot started boiling, and I actually had to have them turn it off, because there was no way I would be able to eat it that hot. The flavors were fantastic, the noodles were exceptional, and my coworkers enjoyed their standard Chinese fair, which included Mongolian beef and honey walnut prawns. Overall, it was a great quick meal full of flavors, highly recommend, will definitely be back again!

It was delayed, then delayed, then we gave up. Then one day, we saw it was opened, we screamed for joy. 888 Japanese is our favorite but driving to Decatur was always a pain. Now its less than 10 mins away from me, WHAT?!?! You better believe we went here at least 10 times in the first couple of months it opened in this location. The service is always fast and great, the food.. the FOOD. Both their sushi and bbq selections are delectable. I love the portion sizes because who really wants 3 lbs of something in the first round? I have been a loyal customer at this establishment since its opening, visiting over 20-30 times. However, during my most recent visit, I encountered some issues with my usual order of medium signature beef bone broth. When I first tasted it, the flavor seemed mild or almost nonexistent. I brought this to Paul's attention and asked if he could prepare it properly as a medium. Initially, Paul suggested that I stir the soup to see if the spices were more pronounced. After trying it again, I found that it was still lacking in flavor. He then agreed to take it back to be remade. Unfortunately, when it returned, it was excessively spicy. This made me question whether a new chef was responsible for the preparation, to which Paul confirmed that there was indeed a new chef. I expressed my concerns and asked if the chef would be able to make the broth correctly this time. Paul offered me the option to either place a new order or receive a refund. As a longtime customer familiar with the original flavor profile, I was disappointed with the response, especially when he raised his voice and reiterated those options. I mentioned that the exchange was affecting my appetite, and I inquired about the manager's availability. Paul informed me that he was in charge due to the manager being off that day. I later learned that the general manager would return the next day around 2 PM, and I intend to discuss my experience further at that time. I believe it's important for the new chef to be adequately trained on the original recipes. Additionally, I feel there is room for improvement in customer service, particularly in how staff members communicate with loyal customers. I appreciate the chance to provide feedback, and I hope my concerns can contribute to a better experience in the future. read more

I tried this place for the first time yesterday, and it was so good that I had to come back today! The broth, especially the beef bone broth, is incredibly rich and packed with flavor. They offer an amazing variety of toppings, including snow crab and Wagyu beef, which makes every bowl customizable and delicious. Mala Town is a delicious build-your-own hot pot spot that's both quick and customizable. You walk in, grab a bowl, and load it up with whatever you're craving -- fresh veggies, noodles, meats, and more. You pay by weight, and they cook your bowl pretty fast before bringing it right to your table. There's a sauce station too, don't skip it. I usually mix garlic paste and chopped green onions into my soup, and dip the meats into sesame sauce -- so good. The veggie selection is always fresh and restocked regularly, and while the meats are frozen, the quality is high. I usually go with medium spice -- it adds a ton of flavor. I've tried mild a couple times, but it just doesn't hit the same. Even when it's 104 degrees out, I still say go for medium or spicier.
