Honestly the best Thai food I've ever had. Some of our friends brought us to this restaurant for dinner, and I am kicking myself that I did not find it sooner! We had the crispy pork tacos for an appetizer, along with a fresh salad, and it was all amazing. I got some kind of fizzy cocktail that was perfectly flavored, not too sweet but not too dry. Then, I ordered the green curry hot pot for my entrée, my daughter got the massaman lamb, and my husband had pad Thai, and we all agreed that they were the best Thai entrées we have had anywhere. Last but not least we tried the mango sticky rice for dessert, which was phenomenal and served in a coconut shell surrounded by freshly shaved coconut. I went there with three other friends! This place absolutely surprised me! The environment was very friendly and boogie! The waiters and the managers were so kind! The food came out really fast, maybe it wasn't busy when we were there. We ordered the Chicken wings, drunken noodles, appetizer sampler, iron pot chicken green curry, and mango sticky rice. Chicken wings came in four pieces and the sizes are huge! Even though the flavor was a bit salty, the wings are super tender in the inside and crunchy on the outside! It was a good choice! Drunken noodles were okay. This dish was cooked with wide flat noodles and it tastes a bit sweet. If you are looking for some safe Thai food choices, this will be the one! Appetizer sampler was okay. I didn't think it was that great comparing to the other orders. Iron pot chicken green curry was amazing! The curry is full of coconut flavor and there are a lot of vegetables in it. The curry tasted really fresh and not greasy at all! It also came with a bowl of rice. Mango sticky rice was ordered for dessert! Fried rice crispy, mango cubes, and sticky rice are mixed together and placed in a half-opened coconut shell. Coconut milk was soaked in the mix as well. If this is your first time eating this kind of dessert, you should totally order it. For me personally, I wasn't really into sticky rice. If I could give it a 3.5, I would feel it more appropriate. This place looks gorgeous on the inside, the staff seemed very well, and the atmosphere was pretty decent. Came in for my birthday dinner and everyone had a solid time, well except me. We ordered a couple appetizers and entrees to share family style. I ordered two entrees because hey, I'm a fat kid. The lamb shank curry and basil fried rice. It seemed like my server forgot about the fried rice which I had a hankering for, but no biggie. The curry had the rice in it, so by the time I was getting to the rice it had gotten super soggy. I asked for limes and fish sauce but they gave me the Vietnamese fish sauce which was super sugary and not the saltiness I was needing for the dish. Overall, it's a nice place to go to for Americanized Thai food. Would I come back? Probably, but maybe I'll have to steer towards something else that isn't so sweet. read more

Wasn't their best effort last night. Had food delivered via Uber Eats (they were timely...our food had not been sitting). I had the drunken noodles and my husband had pineapple fried rice. The chicken in both entrees was really tough. The samosas were good as usual. Another appetizer, can't recall the name, was also a little chewy, but the flavor was good. Have you ever had a movie hyped up so much that by the time you watch it it's just kinda mediocre? That was my experience with Malai. I've driven past it so many times and heard so much about it that by the time I actually ate there last night my expectations were sky high. Before I go into why I was disappointed I want to hit on the good things that I enjoyed. First: the vibe/ambiance. Really cool place, nice looking cocktails and artwork inside. Second: service was very good and food came out reasonably fast. Although this place has a lot of good things going for it, they struggle with what's most important: the food. Now I should say the food was not BAD by any means, but it was just forgettable. It was like a movie that had really good casting and great trailers but just wrote a really lousy script. Now this is coming from someone who's favorite food is Thai food. I ordered several things because I really thought this place was gonna be awesome. I ordered the beef samosas, shrimp pad thai, chicken pad thai, and lastly the Panang curry. The samosas were cooked perfectly as far as the flakiness and crunch, but they were so bland and not at all spicy as the name says on the menu. As is common with pad Thai it just came out very dry and lacked flavor. It is so hard to make bad pad Thai but man this dish was very disappointing. Lastly: the curry. I may have made a mistake in ordering shrimp Panang curry instead of just having it the way it comes on the menu: Beef tenderloin Panang curry. The curry was very hearty and not at all creamy or savory as You would expect from a Panang curry as it's made with coconut milk. Although it was very hearty because of all the vegetables, it was again just very bland. I've yet to find anything as flavorful as a good Panang curry but this one just made me sad. If this is someone's first experience with curry it may turn them off from ever trying it again. All in all this place was just disappointing. I was so excited to try it as I thought I was about to discover my new favorite Thai place in DFW. Sadly, this place is probably somewhere I will never eat at again. This place should be a case study for people thinking of opening a restaurant. You can have a great vibe, good service and a nice location, but if the food isn't good, then what's the point? read more

Everything was amazing. Service was awesome too. We had crab dip appetizer, I had pho and my friend had curry. Also we had the mango sticky rice and it was so good that it changed my friends opinion of coconut! They also have a micro brewery, which was cool. Can't wait to return! Huge portions, friendly staff, and delicious food, for the most part. There was no wait for our party of 5 on a Sunday evening. A table was set up for us outside in the covered patio with heating. Sunday is happy hour all day, so order away! :) Members ordered the Thai-P-A beer ($4) and white wine ($6) off of the happy hour menu, and a mimosa. I ordered the red wine flight ($22) and enjoyed the variety. Note that you can't choose the wines. They give you a Syrah, Red blend, Zinfandel, and Merlot. We all were pleased with our selections. We ordered the Spicy Crispy Wings and Vietnamese "Meatballs" (2 for $9 during happy hour), and the Lemongrass Mussels. The portions are HUGE! Meatballs were juicy and delicious and had a nice grilled look to them. I'm not much of a wing person, but the seasoning was a perfect blend on the wings. Be sure to scoop the sauvignon blanc sauce on the mussels! They had a rich flavor, but not overly so. For entrees, I ordered the special feature Chilean Sea Bass. I was told it was different from the normal one on the menu because of the added squid (I think?) and a higher quality rice. The pink sauce was surprising, but it had a smooth and rich taste to it, and the sea bass was cooked just as requested. The others in my party enjoyed the Panang Duck Curry and the Drunken Noodles. The Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops tasted very fishy and were disappointing in comparison to everything else. We finished our meal with the Coconut Cream Pie. Although I cannot attest to the taste, 3 members of our party were able to completely finish it, spoon-licking and all. Our waiter, Robbie (I hope) was wonderful and attentive. This was my first time experiencing brunch at Malai kitchen and I must say I was impressed. We sat outside in the patio where they have a small AC so you won't feel the Texas heat. Service was great! Highly attentive and made sure the mimosas were there. Also the mimosa were delicious and only $ The only reason I have it a 4 wish I could do a 4.5 was because the congee was a bit too salty. However, it was still very flavorful and delicious. If you are a coffee lover I highly recommend getting the Vietnamese coffee ! It is a delicious coffee with sweetened condensed in it. I had heard nice things about this place for a while, so was eager to try it. Came in for lunch at noon today, and got the last open table. The menu was very interesting, with many traditional Thai dishes, and some options I had never heard of before. We ordered beef samosas as an appetizer, I ordered the yellow curry and my friend ordered the green curry. Prior to receiving the samosa, we were served sticky rice with some kind of savory jam. All of the dishes were quickly delivered and well prepared. I ordered my Neal with medium spice, and the green curry was prepared spicy, but I did not discern much of a difference between the level of heat in the two dishes. I liked almost everything about the yellow curry except that the chicken was tough. There were many other dishes that I would like to try in the future. Disappointed this time. I hate to give a bad review for my used to be favorite place in Southlake... but the food and service today disappointed me a lot. First of all, we never had a waiter/waitress... multiple people came to take orders and one lady had a very cold attitude.. it is still fine if I get my order.. however, I didn't even get my water until I asked 3 different people. I had to ask the manager when he passing by... And we didn't get the appetizer (sticky rice) as usual. It seemed no one cared about out table while the other tables all got that. Finally, we asked for check 2 times to different people and not until we asked the 3rd people that we got the check.. we understand it is busy during lunch hours but today there are some empty tables.. and we received very good service last time when this place was packed and people waiting.... I was greeted promptly by the young hostess. I was seated on a busy lunch shift right away as well. A nice young man stopped by moments after I got my menu (but in a reasonable timeframe) to get my drink order. My drink was delivered moments later, I decided to try the Thai Tea (milk tea) at his behest which was my first time and it was great. The server checked on me at this point and took my order. My sweet and sour vegetable soup (made spicy) was good. I ordered the bhan mi sandwich for my lunch with pulled pork. My sandwich, with fried imperial rolls was absolutely fabulous. In all our was a great trip. The service was wonderful (thanks Marinella- a great Armenian name I came to find out), the manager also stopped by twice, the food was phenomenal. Ours was a great visit that I would recommend to anyone. Hope your visit goes as well as mine did. Tip: You can have the heat in any dish altered to your tastes. Had some starters of the curry crab dip and a sampler platter which had Vietnamese meatballs, chicken satay and some Malay style egg rolls, both were great. Bathroom is one open space room with stalls on one side marked for men and the other side for women. Exited stall and was stil surprised to see a beautiful woman in the spacious shared washing area. Will return to take pictures of this restaurant. I didn't do it this time, even though I had my camera that day after a day of touring Fort Worth. Took all that wasn't eaten home except the Red Curry Cod which I consumed quickly. The appetizer (rice that needs to be cut with a sharp fork, knife, spoon) was very sticky and solid. We enjoyed the PadKeeMow (Drunken Noodles) here. It's darker in color and more flavorful than other restaurant versions. Please consider offering ground chicken as an option as well as leaving out the lettuce which becomes quite unappealing once it's warmed. The Thai tea was spot on and our server even offered to give each of us a complimentary cup of Thai tea to take home with us. Excellent! Came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and it was packed! Be sure to have a reservation or to give yourself enough time for at least a 15 min wait. Everything from the fresh juice to the appetizers to the entree were very flavorful, and presented nicely. I actually started writing this review in July 2018 and just saw the draft. I can't remember exactly what we ordered but I still remember that I love this restaurant and will def be back next time I visit! read more

Updating my review again and increasing the rating to 4*s. I've been back several times since my last review, and am happy to say that the food and service have increased in quality and consistency, regardless of day of the week or time of day. I am thrilled that they are now just as good as remember. This place is truly something special. Great for brunch, large parties, and vegetarians. Cocktails: The Bourbon Smash and Lemongrass Fizz are personal favorites. Both are well-balanced with just the right amount of sweetness (I don't care for overly sweet cocktails). Personally, I don't care for their house brews, but the cocktail list more than compensates for that. Brunch: The hoi an hash balances classic Thai flavors of hot, sour, spicy, and sweet beautifully. It is more of a fritatta/breakfast omelette than what I normally think of as a "hash," but in the best possible way. The coconut biscuits in the eggs benedict are also incredible (ask nicely, and they'll let you have one as a side). Appetizers: The shrimp/avocado salad has been a favorite of my husband's and mine for almost a decade. It's huge and filling enough to be a meal in itself, or a great starter when shared among 2-3 people. We also love the Vietnamese meatballs (make a wrap with butter lettuce and herbs and dip it in the glorious sauce) and the fried imperial rolls. Mains: Honestly, half the time I just make a meal out of the appetizers. But, their Tom Yum Gung, shrimp pad thai, and Massaman lamb shank are all brilliant. Was glad to see that masks are still required and it appears they have opened capacity back up, which as long as the masks are still in place, I'm okay with.
