Stumbled on this small health foods store in Haleiwa for a quick snack before making the drive into town. They had my favorite garlic salt ulu chips from ulu mana, I haven't seen them at foodland or anywhere else in months! They even had flavors I haven't seen before. I also grabbed a "healthy soda" called Recess with magnesium and L-theanine. They had produce, a bulk foods section (yay for zero waste), supplements and a lot of brands / items that I've never seen before. Funny thing! I found Celestial Natural Foods by finding my way to the Cosmic Kitchen! Yep, that's right! The Cosmic Kitchen is in the back of this fantastic store! This organic/natural food market is in historic Haleiwa and is a historic business in its own right! I spoke with Leilila, one of the daughters of the founder, Carter Allen, and she said her dad founded this place in 1974! (at the location it stands today!!) First, Celestial Natural Foods is a Non-GMO store! Love that!! Honestly folks, Celestial has an assortment of everything. Supplements, if you have gluten-free needs they have a lot of givings, local fresh produce, homeopathic, vegetarian and vegan goods, herbs and spices, sustainable products, reef safe sunscreen, natural beauty products, essential oils, juices, kombucha (and Kombucha on tap!!), granola, probiotics, plant based cheeses, Dr. Bronner's products, flours, all sorts of plant based flours, snacks... think Whole Foods but in a family owned, local small town way. It's a smallish type store but it is jam packed! I really, really like it has the old school store freezers, shelves, etc... and vibes. It's such a comfortable, like a "you've been here before" kind of store. Celestial was as busy as a beehive when I was there and everyone was still so friendly! Crystal, an employee there, was extremely helpful and kind. I'm just the next town over and I'm already looking forward to my friendship with Leilila and Celestial Natural Foods. Some of the rudest, least helpful people on the North Shore work here. Their selection is good but prices are quite high on non-bulk items. Understandable though given we're on an island. Great bulk selection. But be prepared to pay through the nose while being insulted by the arrogance and haughty demeanor of the people working here. They're quite awful. Unusual for the North Shore which has the loveliest people I've ever met. Looking for another nearby organic option...let me know if you have suggestions! read more

I like to support local businesses and this one hits the spot for those searching for health and wellness. The ambiance is that of a mom and pop shop for wellness. To the right you have supplements in liquid and pill form. The center of the store has shelves of pantry items and to the right refrigerated goods. They have so many items that you will not find in other stores like pure elderberry paste. Like their choice of cocojun yogurt on deck. There are many plant-based options for fellow vegans. We were pleasantly surprised to find pure sea moss as we have searched at farmers markets and other stores and failed. The workers were nice and helpful in guiding us they the store. I've never thought to come in here because I assumed everything would be expensive like North Shore real estate. Turns out, it is not astronomically more expensive, but even cheaper than some places in town! I mean, not a lot cheaper, but a little. Like, 40 cents or even a dollar depending on what natural store we're comparing it to. So, if you buy a few things and save 40 cents per thing, you can take your savings and go buy something else. Considering how small the store is, I was surprised at how many of my staple items were present. Perhaps my grocery list is not as unique and unusual as I thought. I also liked the bulk area and the fridge with fresh fruits and veggies. I was so excited about the store that I purchased a whole bag of groceries including glass bottled things and large 32 ounce things. Then I remembered we had parked far away and I felt a little sad, but then my girlfriend carried it for me and I was happy again. The end. read more

Thoroughly impressed with this tiny little store. It really packs in an incredible selection of food, produce, beverages, supplements, household and bath/body goods. Excellent brands (coming from SF where there is everything on every corner) and tons to choose from. The mark-ups made me want to gag, but heck, it's an island and they gotta pay to ship that stuff over. I get it, I get it. Kudos to their white pineapple offering by the register - a great way to sample the islands most infamous produce as you're about to spend gawd-knows-how-much for your hippie condo fridge. Every time I'm in Haleiwa our family shops here. And every time we are ignored or simply not spoken to (sometimes they look at us but say nothing...or they just don't make eye contact lol). The women who work there like to be seen and flattered and that, I am now convinced, is why they work there. It is certainly not to improve customer service, check for expired labels or bad produce. I am sooooo over going to this store. It's just not worth it. And look, I don't even mind the prices! It's fine. I mean, we're vegans who don't eat much processed foods so a store like Celestial comes in handy. On our last stay in Haleiwa we came in for some spelt flour and the women working there were so involved in their conversation about some other woman they knew that when I was trying to move around them to get to the produce in the back they looked at me as though I was interrupting them. Neither said a word to me...just stopped their conversation and stared at me as I tried to move down the tiny aisle that was made smaller due to their water-cooler gossip in the produce aisle. I swear these people are a mess! And when I walked in the woman behind the counter looked shocked to see me...almost embarrassed or something. Couldn't figure it out. She flashed a quick nervous smile and then busied herself at the cash register. I said hello but got nothing. Then when I was getting the spelt flour (decided not to get any produce because it's not always the best) I got to the register and she was quiet. I complimented her jewelry and she lit UP! She also lit up for the tall blonde guy who came in after me. VERY responsive to him. Like REALLY excited lol. Practically jumped over the counter to greet him when he entered. For the rest of our trip, we ended up going to local farmers markets and driving out to Down to Earth. We're on Oahu often to visit family and friends (Haleiwa especially) but we've decided to cross this place off of our list indefinitely. I read someone else's review in which they said the Celestial is racist. That definitely crossed my mind. They need some competition y'all or some customer service training. I'm done spending my money here. Almost twenty years shopping at this store and as usual, owner just ignores me. And again I come home with food that is bad. I decided to treat myself today to cookies. I can't eat any junk food because I have cancer. But today, after having to leave the pharmacy without a much needed prescription because it was almost $400, I wanted cookies. They are all crushed & melted. Came to Celestial Natural Foods out of desperation. I found out 3 nights ago that my 1.5 yr old English BullPup (she's still a puppy to me) has a mass growing on her mouth palette. Vets say operation is not an option & at this time we just have to enjoy her & make "Jinx" as comfortable as possible.... talk about ripping my heart out of my chest! I'm so heartbroken! I was told to get my baby some CBD oil, it may help her condition but at the very least it will help make her comfortable. So someone told me that Celestial Natural Foods carries Hawaiian Choice Premium Full Spectrum CBD oil so I decided to make the drive out to the North Shore to get some. For the life of me I cannot remember the young lady's name that helped me - things have been a blur in my sadness the last few days, however, I was greeted politely and I told her I was looking for CBD oils. She immediately took me to the side of the counter that they were stored at, I explained to her why I needed the oils and she was very caring and sympathetic. Her thoughtfulness to my situation and the way she displayed feelings for my situAtion touched me. I was having breakfast across the street and had the most amazing OJ, I asked the waitress where could I get it and she told me to come here. I really liked this shop and they had a huge selection of natural products. I really wanted to buy more than just the juices but I had limited space in my suitcase. Good selection of groceries and supplements but customer service is non-existent. NO greetings whatsoever to anyone. It's a small store, but one could easily say "Hi" or "Can I help you find anything?" without coming out from behind the counter. When we brought our groceries to the counter to pay, I said "Hi" to the cashier and got no response, only silence. She didn't speak one word to us until she said "debit or credit" and "do you need a bag?" That was basically our conversation. It was a big turn-off. read more

The food here is too expensive to be expired or moldy. Living in town, I like going here to grab some good, healthy, all natural food when I am down on the north shore. So far my only complaint has been the sometimes better-than-thou attitude of the workers there. I was so happy to find that the woman I checked out with was super nice and friendly! Giving 2 stars because I do love the selection of organic items here. I own a restaurant down the road from celestials and I have continued to support this small business for a few years now (almost weekly) and time and time again the customer service is terrible (usually from the same 2 girls). When a customer is standing at the register that usually means they're ready so in an establishment where customer service should be important (unless that's not the standard here) I would have expected the girl working (Emmy) to come ring me up. We clearly made eye contact while i was standing there and she stocking her shelf, but Instead of coming over she looked away and continued to stock her shelf and after a few minutes of standing there she finally turned around in a very sassy way says "hi are you ready now? If you ever see us busy just let us know you're ready." It was the WAY she said this and her attitude that was extremely bothersome. As another small business owner customer service should be VERY important and employees should be held to a high standard when customers are the one paying to keep the business in business and employees employed. I rarely leave bad reviews and hoping celestials takes customer service into consideration when hiring staff. read more

This is Hale'iwa's oasis of healthy, organic, natural, bulk, hippie food, and a welcome stop on one of our trips up to the gorgeous beaches of Hawaii's North Shore. In search of something somewhat healthy to take to the beach in the way of snacks, we bobbed in here and found a good selection of natural foods, bars, bulk nits and mixes, juices and smoothies, drinks, and the like. In the back of the store sits a little café that definitely runs on Island time (with a dash of added slowness of hippie time thrown in the mix). They sort of open when they want, and serve up a tasty-looking menu of smoothies and café food. I didn't sample it, but I would definitely venture back in to try it. If you're looking for some solid organic natural goods and you're way out on the North Shore, this little store does the trick. Plus, it'll get you stocked on the essentials you can't find anywhere else around, like Kombucha, raw, organic... whatever. Oh, and the parking situation is pretty dire. We asked the guys at the surf store next door if we could use their lot, and they obliged (but told us if we hadn't asked they would have stuck a bumper sticker on our car - ha! rad!), but otherwise there is nowhere in the immediate area to park that's not specific parking for some other store. read more

(PLEASE NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS FOR THEIR CAFE ONLY) I don't know what happened, but this place has gone seriously downhill. I wouldn't revise a formerly good review with a bad one unless I'd noticed a trend. I've had 3 bad experiences (of 3 total experiences) in the past year. The menu is much smaller and limited than when I started coming 3 years ago. The service has gotten down right bizarre. I'll spare you the full diatribe and just give you an example from my most recent experience. I ordered a wrap and stood there for 30 minutes. I was one of only 2 people there. The cook, while physically in front of me, was mentally 1,000 miles away. Periodically, he'd catch sight of me waiting and ask, "What did you order again?" (Telling me that he hadn't even started it.) I'm not exaggerating when I say this happened 3 times. When he finally did start working on it, it only took 5 minutes. There! Was that so hard? 30 minutes is an acceptable wait if it's for good reason....lots of customers, gourmet food, a sit-down restaurant, etc. But when you're standing in a cramped sweltering location with the cook repeatedly asking you to repeat your order, it becomes a little off-putting. I will acknowledge that the food, once I finally got it, was still pretty good - hence the 2nd star. But I can't justify going there again. Especially when Opal Thai is right across the street. You can get more food in a much shorter time frame for a much better price. If you find yourself at the doorway of Celestial Natural Foods Cafe, do yourself a favor. Swing around a full 180 degrees and walk across the street. read more

First off, it's great to see an organic food shop on the North Shore. The selection was pretty good given the size of the shop and it being on Hawaii. Prices were good too. On the bad side, the white girl working there was basically as rude as it gets. I didn't think she was even going to ring us up. I mean we just left laughing. She was really nice to some of the locals so it wasn't just a bad day or something. Check the expiration date on anything you buy and watch out for the fresh stuff having animal bite marks on it. Are you ready for the 3 lbs burrito? It was so tasty and huge. The ingredients were fresh and delish and I was full all day and night. The store was packed full of everything you need. Good selection of local produce when I can't get to the farmers market. 90% of the time though my experience is that the staff is NOT friendly/happy. Hope everyone there cheers up one of these days. I usually get bummed out after going cause my limited interactions with the staff (mostly at checkout) include dealing with someone that doesn't smile and is really short with me. Celestial sells a lot of organic food, so I spent about 20 minutes walking around the store to see everything first. 50% or more of their food and stuff was unique to Hawaii and the rest I had seen at some other health food stores in California. I bought cashews, soft serve, tortilla chips, cereal (which was yummy and a good value) and an avocado - all organic - and they were excellent. The price was a little high, but I took into consideration it was organic food in a remote city in Hawaii. I went there twice and on the second day all of the ripe avocadoes were gone. I was a little bummed because I wanted to buy another one, but they had a table of free samples, so that sort of made up for it. It was a coconut concoction and it was yummy. Celestial has a few more things that I want to try, so I will definitely return. I'm actually fasting now and I intend on rewarding myself with something from their store when I break my fast. read more

My friend had delicious oj at the restaurant across the street, cafe haleiwa, and was told we could buy it here. My friend and a bought a couple of fresh squeezed juices that are bottled on oahu. The store had a few other natural products I wanted to buy, like coconut butter, but I don't think that it would have fit in my suitcase lol. read more

Thank goodness for this market on the North Shore! As an organic market person, I would have been really lost without it! Yes, price are expensive but hey, you're on vacation, right?
