You can't walk into hygienic without feeling the sense of Aloha. From ethnic foods like pasteles to modern treats like Icees there's something here for everybody. The staff treats everyone with Aloha. Personally, I get Kava here every couple of weeks. Their Kava is the second best I've ever had, and the Fiji variety of Kava is particularly good. I was pleased to learn that they carried Kava, so I don't have to drive to Kalihi to get it, which is a relief because I'm an old fut who does not like driving in to Honolulu. They are just a 5 to 10 minute drive from Haiku Woods, so it's my preferred place to get Kava. If you live here their goods all have local appeal. If you're just visiting Honolulu, Hygienic store is a great place to get the feel of local culture and maybe discover a couple of new favorite foods.

Also for locals heading around the island it's normally a good quick stop to buy ice and load up on your favorite adult beverage. The Hygienic store still looks the same they sell ice, liquor, cold drinks , chips , candy , spam musubi, some household product also canned goods . Support local and be safe

They had my favorite garlic salt ulu chips from ulu mana, I haven't seen them at foodland or anywhere else in months! They even had flavors I haven't seen before. I also grabbed a "healthy soda" called Recess with magnesium and L-theanine. They had produce, a bulk foods section (yay for zero waste), supplements and a lot of brands / items that I've never seen before. The staff was friendly and they even had apples that anyone could take for free!

Then my 7 year old son needed the restroom so I asked the cashier for the code in the plazas shared facilities with several other shops. She told me I had to be a "paying patron" so I grabbed a bag of toffee macadamia nuts to be a paying customer. Instead of ringing me up, she proceeded to walk away from the cashier and said I would have to wait for her to come back. I asked her politely if I could have the code since I've already been a paying customer in their plaza, we had shaved ice next door, but instead of just giving the code she told me to go back to Matsumoto to ask for the code! I couldn't believe her response! I left the store and just waited for someone to exit the bathroom. I will never shop at this store again! This is the least aloha spirited experience I have ever had while visiting Hawaii.
