I have been to this place a few times and the food has always been great. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are more than satisfying. In particular I have had fried fish and roast beef which were excellent. These selections also come with rice and beans or friend plantains,all of which are good. The food is amazing. HOWEVER I've been calling since 11am. It is now 11:20am. Every time I call go place an order the same man answers and says "Hold on". He puts me on hold. So after five minutes I call. He says hold on again. After another five minutes I call again. I tell him I've been waiting and he says "I'm busy hold on." After another five minutes of being on hold I call again. I ask him will he be willing to take my order and he says "only if u can wait. Hold on". This man clearly doesn't know how to prioritize and his tone was very rude. My coworkers and I order from there frequently. And when I worked near the 168 st location I would order from the location on 168 st. By the way: the location near 168 is much busier and no one there was ever rude and my order was always taken within five minutes. Good food! I agree the staff could be friendlier but I consider it more of a take out or quick sit down as opposed to fine dinning. If your taste buds are craving that full latin flavor you will be ;) satisfied! Ive had the garlic shrimp with white rice/ baked chicken with black beans and rice/ avocado added to my salad and was happy with every visit. The rotisserie chicken is very succulent. You can get a half chicken with a side order for $6.99, which is a great value. The green sauce is delicious so always ask for extra! i also LOVE the 'pechuga de pollo con chorizo salteado' (chicken breast with sausage served with peppers and onions). I bought a family combo from this restaurant thinking that it'd be as delicious as the malecon on 98th st and Amsterdam. It turned out to be nasty, with no flavor at all. The beans were burnt and disgusting, the pernil tasted like nothing. The only good thing was the sweet plantains and I'm guessing its only bc they are naturally sweet. Very expensive! For some simple Dominican food that should not be called food because it is very greasy, salty and dried. The chicken is so dried I had to ask for 2 cups of water to swallow it down! Best Spanish restaurant around!! I absolutely love their roasted chicken. I order it with white rice, beans, and a mixed green salad. You will not regret eating this meal! It takes a lot for me to write a review but i offically have had it with this restaurant Malecon is the only Spanish restaurant in the Riverdale area on Broadway. They are highly over priced, more than your average Dominican restaurant and there food does not make up for the money. The prized rotisserie chicken is often dry and over cooked not mention small in size so you hardly get any meat on the bones. Last two times I ordered the yellow rice it was dry and flavorless and looked as if they colored already cook white rice. But like i said its the only spanish restaurant in the Riverdale area. However after delivering to my home 4 times they decided that my address in Riverdale near Johnson ave was too far to travel to. Mind you last time I ordered was a month ago and the guest I had over wanted to try spanish food so I ended up ordering 60 dollars worth of food with two of their better entries, and there were errors with my order. With their high prices and getting my order wrong cause of language barriers wouldn't even go to them to pick up the food to take out, would much rather have food from El presidente on Jerome where you can get a slamming lunch special for 3 dollars and the family meals don't cost nearly as much but they taste way better. read more

Malecon could be an amazing restaurant with the proper management but unfortunately it is not that kind of place, so you make do of what the have. The waitresses are the worst, they have no attention to detail no sense of urgency and at times it feels like you might be bothering them if you ask for their assistance. But this is a Dominican Restaurant norm, being Dominican myself it's upsetting. But anyway all in all the food is amazing I've had their rotisserie chicken which is one of the best in the neighborhood as well as their Churrasco steak, Mangu, Mofongo even their pepper steak lunch special is great. Always my place to go for Dominican/latin food. The food has always been good, service good and fast and they upgraded the place which looks much better. To whom it may concern I am writing this to inform customers that in El Malecon restaurant there is very poor service the managers are rude especially Valentino he is very rude he does not know how to speak to customers he goes back and forth in an argument with a customer even if he knows that he is wrong and I feel that is not right as a manager he should hold his place and let the customer express how they feel and just try to make them feel better not make the situation worst to the point the customer is ready to slap you cause your in their face Mr.Valentino is very unprofessional he needs to learn how to work with people or leave his job ! Had one of the worst experiences at this restaurant as far as service is concerned. I like the food alright, but just doesn't excuse BADDDDD service. After waiting nearly an hour for our food we questioned the waitress who had attitude from the start (never smiled, said hello or anything) she informed us she was busy and didn't have to wait on us if we didn't like it. Instead of trying to get our food she stood and argued over it. We asked to speak to the Manager when someone from behind the counter came forward and told us we have to understand they are very busy. No, I am sorry for the wait, let me try to expediate it for you. He also just stood and argued about why it would take so long. They then stood and smirked and stared until we left...quick to check the tip on the bill. (we should have left a penny) but we left way too much considering. Supposed to be a nice meal out with my Sister and Mother and it was sooo disappointing. I will say I have dined at the El Malecon in Washington Heights and always been treated very well and had a good meal which is why we decided to try this location. We will NEVER go back here. Besides the busboy who was friendly and one other almost apologetic waitress everyone in this place is just rude and incapable of offering great , not even good customer service. RUINED OUR MEAL. Management should really consider training their staff in serving procedures and customer service. Treat enough people this way and you will be closing your doors. read more

I really do not take pleasure in giving a bad review but my family and I didn't have a good experience in El Malecon. I have eaten here before and had delicious food, sorry I can't say the same this time. My husband and I took my mother and sister out for Mother's Day this past Sunday. We understand the long wait because of the holiday but the rest is inexcusable for the money we paid. There is no partition from the tables to the area where the people wait for a table, therefore, lean right over & make a lot of noise where you are eating. Not very comfortable or sanitary. As hungry as we were, thankfully they served us bread(which was the best part of the meal), as our wait for our meal was 40 long minutes. They served my husband and I warm beer. My mother and my sister had Paella which they said was ok. I ordered Rotisserie Chicken and steamed Yucca, but when they finally brought us the food I was informed they had no more chicken ready and would have to wait about 10 minutes for it to be ready and the Yucca was hard and dry. My husband ordered fried shrimp and chicken which was all dry and tasteless. We also ordered 1 order of sweet plantains and 1 of tostones but were only given the sweet ones. The waitress dropped the food off and never came back or asked us if we wanted anything else. Another waitress took over when we were done eating. Terrible experience for a Mother's Day celebration. read more

i alwayz go there to buy "pastelitos de carne"...they are soooo good.. but that where i eat luch and the custumer service is sooo good

i hadn't been here in year's used to love it). we went in to have an early dinner, had to wait, no problem... after being seated the bus boy was "cleaning" (using a rag to throw everything that was on the table, onto the floor) the table across from us where the left overs from that table landed on my friends leg and shoes. i ordered mofongo de chicharon, salsa on the side and mojito...he ordered rice with pernil, tostones, and mojito, and asked that salsa be put over the rice. i get mofongo with salsa on side he gets his rice with pernil and mojito, waitress tells us to share the salsa. which i did not appreciate, she didn't know who the person i was with was to me. then i ask her for mojito and she points to his 1 tiny plastic thingy(did i say 1) and tells me to use it...i looked at her and told her to get meee one. the chicharon in the mofongo tasted like peanut butter. the pernil had absolutely no flavor, the only good thing was the mojito, which she seemed to not want to give. then he asks for the check(3x's), 20 minutes go by, still nothing, we had to get up and walk to the counter to pay...never again read more
