Great local coffee/bagel/sandwich spot in the IE. Lots of regulars here during the week. Upon sampling a few different breakfast sandwiches, my recommends would have to be the turkey breast and bacon/egg/cheese. Best of all, they serve Klatch coffee... which for those who do not frequent the IE is one of the up and coming local coffee roasters in SoCal. This has become our most oft repeated breakfast place ever since we moved to Upland about a year ago. Its walking distance from our place and has bagels, smoothies, and coffee!!! The feel of the place is very small-town and unlike a corporate chain. There are lots of places to sit, eat, read, or chat. Being a native New Yorker ots not a ny bagel but for California its a decent choice. They make a great egg which sandwich on a bagel. I pickup a half dozen for my Sunday on Saturday as they are closed sundays. Steve the owner is a nice guy I feel he is not assertive enough as he does allow an older gentleman in the store with no mask and he serves himself coffee im not sure what makes this guy so special as everyone else is in a mask. The staff is always so cheerful and overall great people. They know my order and start making it when I walk in which is great. Idk why and how so many people can have negative things to say about this little bagel shop! It's great! It's not super fancy or super new so don't drive a million miles for a bagel but the bagels are DELICIOUS. I like going to bagel shops. This shop is clean, decently sized, has an outside little seating area and they make good sandwiches too. I recommend trying it, I also recommend trying to be nice (: it's just bagels guys. Finally I found a good bagel place in the IE. They have the standard types of bagels - plain, everything, sesame, etc and a couple unique ones. What sets these guys apart in my eyes is the specialty cream cheeses. They will slather your bagel with cream cheese containing chunks of lox or sun dried tomatoes. Also worth pointing out is coffee selection: light french roasts and snickerdoodle are popular and good. At the end of the day, its not a bagel from Brooklyn but its better than any fast food bagel you can find at a Dunkin Donuts or starbucks. And its fairly priced - everything bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese + large coffee is like $4 or so. read more

I L O V E Malibu Bagel. Some of my friends in high school introduced me to this place and it is such a treat to go for a breakfast sandwich (literally drooling thinking about it haha). I make my own bagel sandwich and it seriously is the best (eggwich with bacon, egg, cream cheese, and a tomato slice on an everything bagel). The staff is always super friendly as well which is a bonus :) the only down side is they're closed on Sundays (the day I'm always craving a bagel sandwich). This is the last place around town I go for bagels. Sure, 42nd street might have sexist owners, but at least they don't leave your bagel sitting on the counter for 5 minutes while they chat with another customer. I've gone to this place for about 10 plus years... This place always has really yummy food, if you love bagel sandwiches this is the place to go. Typically they have great customer service, but the last few times I've gone there has been a girl at the cash register with the rudest comments and sarcastic remarks it makes me uncomfortable to ask questions, the last time she made fun of my mothers accent with one of her coworkers (who didn't play along too)... owch, that's not nice. I won't be going here for awhile probably. I gave this place two stars for that specific reason and what a shame because everyone else is so nice and the food is so good. Man, I've had such mixed encounters in this place that I am going to break it down into pros and cons. Pros: -Great Foccacia sandwiches (usually). I got a bad one once (I usually order the turkey and sundried tomato). This actually gave me the idea to make my own sandwichs! My family prefers mine over theirs now so I cant comment how they are being made recently. -GREAT smoothies! I crave these once or twice a week now. This is what I usually go here for. I usually order a #2 -They have the little cards that every 11th smoothy/bagel you get a free one. -Average pricing. 4 bucks for a smoothy, 2 something for a bagel with cream cheese. Not bad Cons: -Service can be VERY random! This is the only con but it deserves a little more extrapolation. I came here once and the asian lady (I say asian lady because I do not know her name, only ethnicity, but she looks to be family of the man who owns the place) tried to slight me on my money and questioned me and said I pocketed it. Uh, I don't think so, you gave me wrong change. Fess up and hand it over lady. Also the sandwich taste can very by who is making it. Strange, I know, seeing as how they are the same ingredients but hey, all I know is what my taste buds tell me. Other than that, I would recommend this place for the smoothies, but not the service, and *maybe* the sandwhichs. PROTIP: They do orders over the phone so your food will be ready when you get there. Went in today for a coffee but their machine was down so no coffee, so I went ahead and ordered a breakfast egg, sausage and Cheese on an everything Bagel. 1)the everything Bagel doesn't have much but garlic on it 2)I saw as they made my scrambled egg in the microwave (no salt and no pepper) 3)they proceeded in placing the frozen sausage patty in the microwave. 4)I have definitely had better bagels and I don't eat many bagels This is truly unfortunately as I live right across the street and wish I had a better experience do I could be happy to come here again. Great place! The food was delicious, my friend and I devoured ours in no time. The coffee was perfect and being lactose intolerant it was nice that they didn't charge me extra for soy. (unless anything smaller than a frisbee is small to you.) They have a large variety of Bagels, not just a few. The owners and staff are super friendly and you can tell they really care about their business and customers. Very hard to find bagel places these days, most of the time it's a donut shop that serves bagels. Nice to find a spot that specializes in bagels, I had a bagel sandwich with Ham and veggies. Instead of mustard and mayo add cream cheese instead. Bomb! Tastes like it's made at home, bagel so soft not hard like other places or in store. So hard to find places to eat these days that's semi healthy and home style, hope this place sticks around and maintains the consistency of quality ingredients as I recently moved to the area so I would like to be a regular here. I've only been here twice. Their service is dodgy. The first time I came here I ordered my bagel sandwich and smoothie and it was fine. The second time I came here, there were three employees, NO ONE in the cafe, just me, and it took them awhile to even recognize that I'm standing in front of the counter ready to order, let alone say welcome or hello (which never happened). The smoothies are okay, but one "large" is five dollars, which I would rather spend at an actual smoothie place and get more fruit in it. The bagel sandwiches are ok... I've been to OTHER bagel places and they don't skimp out on what they put in. However, their jalapeno cheese bagel is good. Perhaps they should hire people who would actually like to work there, or are efficient in getting things done. There are BETTER bagel places out there than this one. read more

Everyone has a hard day now and then, even business owners! I've gone to Malibu Bagel for almost 8 years now, since soon after they opened. They have built the business into a huge success with many regulars. I've gotten my whole family hooked on Malibu, and back when my kids were still in still high school, Malibu was the first job of many of their classmates. The service and the food at Malibu Bagel is always good, even when they are busy - which is a lot of the time - esp. first thing in the morning and at mealtimes. I moved away but always visit Malibu when I'm in town visiting family. I've seen improvements in what Malibu Bagel Cafe offers. They've expanded the menu and the available coffees, as well as the bottled drinks. Their focaccia sandwiches are out of this world, as are the breakfast bagels. I've never known Malibu Bagel to be anything but wonderful: convenient location and parking, wonderful food, wonderful service, wonderful casual atmosphere, kind accommodation, friendly manner, what's the problem with someone having a bad day once in a awhile? I researched all the comments and even though there were old complaints about one employee, all said the food was good. So I decided to try!! I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!! Service was excellent, polite and even though the Owner was busy, he helped me with my items out to my car! And the lady in the line ahead said she was a regular for a long time and had yet to be anything but pleased. I bought a Baker's Dozen (13) bagels and the sun dried tomatoes cream cheese and the honey walnut cream cheese took them to my sister's full house with six hungry adults and a picky grandchild. OH MY GOODNESS!! We were all in our yummy place! Bagels were SO FRESH, chewy on the outside soft on the inside. Both cheeses were incredibly delicious. I personally bought a loaf of their sugar free bread made with all natural ingredients. It was soft, tender and flavorful. And I got a boba milk tea which was personally made fresh. I always find myself ordering two of them because even though I'm satisfied with the first sandwich I always want another a few hours later!! The staff is always friendly and the service is great. I got a plain bagel with honey walnut cream cheese and a caramel macchiato. Bagel and cream cheese were good! The cream cheese was thinner than what I'm used to but the taste was good none-the-less. The caramel macchiato was TERRIBLE. Macchiato means layers, but there were no layers in this drink except an inch of gloppy caramel at the bottom. There was also barely any milk in the drink. It just tasted awful. To the people at this place: a caramel macchiato has vanilla syrup at the bottom, then milk, then ice, then espresso, with a tiny bit of caramel drizzle on top. Also, these two things ran me $8. Seems a bit much for the quality. read more

I was craving lox like no other and a smoothie. It was 100 degrees outside. I walked into this place and was very impressed with how clean it was. First impressions are lasting. The lady who took my order was very nice and very helpful. I was not 100 percent walking so after I had ordered I went to move my car closer and she brought out my entire order to my car. That was golden. I ordered a lox bagel and it was delicious!!! The salmon was fresh did not smell bad at all and the bagel was also fresh hot crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The Banana Strawberry smoothie was also so good. It was very cold full of flavor and hit the spot on a hot day in Upland. They also have fountain drinks and premium drinks in the cooler. I also got a Hubert Lemonade and asked for a cup of Ice and straw and was not charged for it. Thank you for the great service and yummy snack I ate on the way home in traffic. My only request is to have capers and cucumber if possible next time :) but I know Covid puts limits on food supply sometimes. read more
