Great ambience. Very friendly staff. Welcoming. Went for brunch. Had coffee, not drinks. The cappuccino was served in a small cup, more like an espresso. Taste was average, not great. The coffee was average, also not great. They charged for the coffee refill. Definitely a NO. Now for the food. Full Cali Breakfast: nothing special. Eggs were ok, chorizo was ok, bacon too fatty, toast came w/out butter and had to ask for butter. This meal came with tater tots. Tater tots? Really? Not a good idea. They should consider a better potato side. Marinated Pepper Steak and Eggs: pepper and onions not visible, but the pulled steak was tasty, if not a bit too salty; over easy eggs well cooked; brown rice was average. Overall, I would not go back for brunch. Food was not worth the $50. Too many other choices for weekend brunch in town. 3 stars for the ambience and staff. read more

So just to get it out of the way... its a blatant knock off of Bar Taco. From the decor, to the way the food is served, to what the staff is wearing. But if you're going to so obviously knock off another restaurant you should make sure your food is better or at least as good. Chips and guac were ok, the large size was just enough for three people. Tacos were not good, really lacking in flavor and the tortillas were very soggy. There was no salsa or sauces on the table and none were offered so I couldn't even try to improve the taste. Also we went on a Wednesday night and the music was louder than any club I've ever been to. The waiter couldn't even hear us ordering, if it was a weekend night I'd get it but mid week its just unnecessary. To sum it up, just drive the extra ten minutes to Bar Taco. read more

This is the second time I've had this place and it left both me and wife super unimpressed. We got the pork belly taco, the lentil taco, a chicken salad, and guacamole this time and I will say the guacamole was delicious but everything else is blah. Nothing special by any means. I really do not understand the hype here. You are much better off going a little down the road to the other taco restaurant on post road. I absolutely love their sister restaurant, The Sinclair but I will be skipping Malibu Taco from now on. read more

The food here was great the first time I came. Went a second time for brunch and was not really a fan. The restaurant was very busy and it was clear they could not keep up with the demand. My suggestion is if you want to enjoy and have a good experience to be able to write a good review, go during the week when it's not as busy. read more

Awful service! Went for a drink recently and had a bad customer service experience. Really not right. Waitress was not friendly, rude and service terrible. Did not appreciate the business. Even though we were only there for a short time for drinks waitress took too long to serve the drinks, got the order wrong, and then brought us the wrong check (higher amount with food items we didn't order) and brought me someone else's credit card! Super stoked to go and get Malibu Taco. Waite all week- got the family taco feast. Pulled up exactly 45 min later and was greeted by very nice woman who walked order out. Drove home only to find my favorite part (the chips and guacamole) was not in the order. Called and they said oh ya just come back....15 min there and 15 min back??? They refunded the guac (not the point) and then I settled for the tacos.... only to find them frozen! So pissed. They didn't offer to Bring them to the house, take off any more food---- oh well last time for this place. Too bad too because food is good when it's complete and HOT or at least warm read more

I have been here 3 times and every time i felt unwelcome in the environment. This past time my friends and I had an AWFUL experience. We were having a "girls night" and are 3 younger adults. 2 of us are 21 and ordered drinks and the waitress bent our IDs and stared at them/our face for a minute each. She then proceeded to give us our drinks, but didn't ask out third friend if she wanted anything. Then she went over to all the staff members (right next to us) and was talking about us as they all were looking our way. We are above the legal limit to drink and had multiple other forms of ID to show proof, I have never been giving such a hard time for ordering one drink. We then asked for chips and gauc to start and were in no rush since our friend came from out of town. Later, we order a second drink and she told us we have to order more food in order to order a second drink. I have never been told this in the past but we did anyways because she clearly had an issue with us. The entire time she was talking really awful about customers to her other team members and it was visible she had a negative attitude about her customers. The girls who were sat next to us were also young (probably 25) and were asked for a second form of an ID and also given a hard time ordering one drink. The waitress then came over and told us we exceeded our time limit for being there (We got there at 6:45 and she told us this around 8) and said we had to leave. It was the worst and most unwelcoming experience i've ever had in a restaurant and definitely was treated poorly just for my age. The waitress had dark brown/black hair and was probably in her 30s and was talking to a blonde girl who was bartending and both were giving us nasty looks. The entire experience was awful. This is a great addition to Fairfield. Yes, it definitely is a copycat of Bartaco, but who cares? I'm happy not to have to drive to Westport! We really like the bowls. Not at all what it seems. For its price and appearance, I was expecting decent tacos and good service. Well, the service was actually horrible, and the food was a let down. They served us stale chips TWICE, and the waitress just stood there like she was annoyed we had a problem with it. Just total apathy and a lack of respect for paying customers. As for the food, the menu sounded great, but the tacos themselves were bland and underwhelming. Not even a picky eater and I don't even use Yelp in the first place, but I felt disrespected and cast aside eating here, will not be coming back. If you're looking for tacos and drinks, go to Bodega, Geronimo or anywhere else in town. read more

Ehh, everything was just decent. We had tacos, none were anything special. We had 4 drinks, same story, all decent but nothing I want to have a 2nd time. Cool atmosphere, seems like more of a bar hangout kinda spot than somewhere tongo for really good tacos. As someone else mentioned, if you wind up at a table between the bar and kitchen, you will feel people hovering over your back as the place fills in. Kinda awkward. I waited 20 minutes for 3 tacos and cucumbers everything was cold nothing had any warmth to it I just felt like it wasnt worth the wait time. They didnt have any decency to put napkins or silverware in the bag I didn't discover that until I got back to the car, its the little things that go along way with customer service, no one wants to have to go back in a restaurant and say hey you guys forgot to give me napkins or silverware, things like that should be second nature when you are a waitress or server in this business. What lead me back to Malibu was because of my 1st experience which was good, I cant blame the service from yesterday on the pandemic. The wait time and food was dissatisfying. Malibu Taco is nicely decorated and it's nice to sit outside in the summer when it's warm. I did not feel like there was a lot of variety to the menu, it is a very similar restaurant to Bartaco. We were very excited to try this new hotspot. It was underwhelming to say the least. The food was bland, in particular, the Baja fish tacos didn't taste fresh. The tuna and steak tacos were decent - presentation is good. Service is a bit uneven where some of the staff is attentive and some weren't - we couldn't tell who was in charge. Been looking forward to trying this place since it opened and finally had a chance. Overall, we were pretty disappointed. Cocktails were good, but not a lot of liquid for the price point. Not terrible tho. Nice selection. Apps were very good. Guac was on point, and the nachos were solid. Mains were okay. Best of them was the quesadilla, but the tacos were miniscule, and the others were nothing bad, but unremarkable. Service was pretty lousy. Had to repeatedly ask for more chips, water, drink glasses were empty for too long... Nice staff, but again, nothing special. We were seated near the glass windows, and even though they have heaters overhead, under the table is freezing cold. Really drafty. Based on the experience we don't plan on returning. If we want that type of meal, bartaco is better IMO. Big fans of The Sinclair, but this place just didn't do it for us. Completely ordinary. read more
