Stopped here on a road trip headed down I-95, convenient location just off the highway. Food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. Menu has a great variety but isn't overwhelming. Excellent wine list and selection of beers, and mixed drinks, as well as appetizers and deserts. We had cheese steak egg rolls with fries. The specials were what we ordered for dinner: Lobster Ravioli- great portion of lobster meat with a creamy sweet pink sauce; and the AHI tuna special with a really nice red sauce with diced green peppers, thinly sliced onions, and chopped olives, with a side of spaghetti and marinara sauce. It was more food than we could finish so we took away leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Was sad to pass on the desert menu- lots of great options to choose from. Our server, Fawn was very polite, super attentive, and very cheerful. We came on a Friday night after the dinner rush and had a very quiet and relaxing dinner. Highly recommend for a far better than average casual dining experience.

I had brisket eggs Benedict that had some fresh wilted spinach on it and a side of tater tots fried in BEEF TALLOW! they have separate fryers one with beef tallow and one with soybean oil. Love this!! The eggs were perfectly cooked and the brisket was a neat change from traditional Benedict. Other Benedict options included traditional, VA ham, or OYSTERS! Dad had blueberry pancakes and sausage links and reported that both were delicious although the sausage was a little dry. We both had coffee which was kept topped off by our great server Rebecca. This is definitely on our list of return spots which is rare in the current restaurant climate. Great job Kitchen 33!!!

They ordered 3 sides as directed by menu. (Others reviewed same problems) They refused to honor their order claiming it was error on my neighbors part. It wasn't because the menu was immediately shut down after woman contacted the owner. Their mistakes-no apologies! Disappointed and not returning! Not because the neighbors didn't get their way! I'm not returning due to the level of rudeness and disrespect! Ambiance was awful from cashier that day!

First, I checked out the menu that is posted on the wall, and tried to make the right decision. EVERYTHING is homemade. Ok, I decided on the Tuna Salad on a white homemade yeast roll. You can select one side, so I had cucumber, tomato and onion salad. I couldn't pass up on fresh lemonade and a slice of one of the most delicious coconut pie I've ever had. The lady that took my order was soooo sweet and of course knowledgeable of the menu. I didn't feel rushed, just relaxed. Soooo we had the most interesting conversation that concluded her parents knew my mother back in the day. I didn't expect tears of joy at lunch. It was lovely! I didn't get her name, but I'll never forget her until I return with friends and family to experience this "small town" treasure. Ok, the food. The roll was golden brown, soft and screamed HomeMade. It was filled with a white flaky and well seasoned tuna salad, topped with fresh crunchy shredded lettuce. YUM ! The cucumber, grape tomato and onion salad had a lite vinaigrette dressing. Fresh !! There is freshly made strawberry lemonade, lemonade, Iced tea and the Pepsi fountain drink products. Ok, the star of the show. That slice of coconut pie was Perfect. The crust was brown, very flaky and filled with a thick creamy coconut filling. This little cute old town restaurant is next to the railroad track and train station that's across from Randolph Macon College. It's popular to the students and residents of Ashland. If you would like A DELICIOUS Lunch in a warm and cute small town restaurant, come to Homemade's by Suzanne!!!! Thank you

Unfortunately, they miss big on depth of flavor. We ordered a few different items on the menu and almost all of them feel short when it came to the flavor profile. We opted to sit indoors but near the patio, so there was a nice cross breeze. I ordered the popcorn to start and my mom ordered pretzel bites. Both were very good, and I was impressed with the amount of popcorn that arrived. So much! My mom ordered the wake n bacon and I ordered the rancher omelet. My mom raved about her meal, but I could barely stomach the omelet. It was SO bland. I immediately let our server know, and she let me swap for something else. I asked for the muffalletta, but they were out of stock, so instead I ordered the wake n bacon. I wouldn't rave about it like my mom did, but it was much better than the omelet. If I'm in Ashland, I'd consider a return trip sometime to try more of their menu. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly.

The poor cashier was running back and forth taking orders and then helping prepare the food. She was kind enough to offer a free soda and apologize before any wait even happened -- but after hearing that, a large group of travelers decided not to order and walked out. If you're going to advertise with such big claims, you should be staffed properly to deliver on them. There seems to be a serious management issue here. Either hire more people or rethink the signage that keeps attracting more customers than the staff can handle. By the time I started writing this review, I had already been waiting about 20 minutes for a simple order. I hope they address the staffing and improve the overall experience. Spoiler alert: they're not the greatest burgers.
