Tried the Spicy Tuna Nachos today for lunch. They were good, I had them ordered for pick up from door dash. I think they would have been way better with won ton chips but they came with tortilla chips that were kinda hard. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because they put my food in a somewhat dirty container looks like it was probably the bottom container in the stack. It had all these black specks and fuzz on the edges. Not very clean presentation. read more

At first I would like to say that this was an unexpected first time visit to Malulu Sushi. All the other sushi spots in town were either closed or full. So glad they were because we found a gem tucked away in an unassuming strip mall... The service was top notch the minute we arrived. We were greeted with such kindness & Hide was like having not only the best sushi chef, but an actual comedian serving us! We ordered omakase style. It was delicious, fresh and not overly priced. When we drive up to Disneyland we usually stop at this mall for Pick Up Sticks or Subway because this place was always closed whenever we were there. I thought how strange that a restaurant isn't open at 8pm on a Sunday night? Well now it is and it's delicious!! Very friendly server and sushi chef who made good recommendations. One of, if not the best Sushi in San Clemente. Fish is always tender and fresh. Kaz has kept a lot of the local favorites from when Nobu ran the restaurant, which is delicious. Both the chef and the staff are always friendly and courteous. The environment is relaxed and family friendly. Get a B39 if you love handroll! B Special and Salmon Special are also amazing nigiri. If you happen to be in for Happy Hour, do not skip out on the Poke bowl! It's great! read more

Disregard all of the positive reviews! I usually don't leave bad reviews unless it is necessary, and this place is a complete rip-off, and I have pictures to prove. They were rude, when I walked in they seems like they didn't want a customer, and rushed me. They had a terrible menu selection with absolutely no pictures or description of any of the rolls! I would ask, do you have baked scallop rolls? "No" do you have any baked rolls? "No" Only the salmon looks good everything out what's old and discoloured. My husband I have been coming here for years. This place is so good! The fish is so fresh. I judge a sushi place by the salmon because it's so easy to get wrong. The salmon here is so buttery and delicious, it adds to the credibility of the place. The secret rolls are the best- B39 hand roll is my favorite. The best night to go is a Tuesday night. That's when all the locals go and they'll clue you in on the secret rolls. The owners are so nice! They gave me and my husband a bottle of sake when we came in on our anniversary. The people who gave bad reviews I'm sure just didn't know what to order. Try this place!! Just a tip- make sure you sit at the bar on Tuesdays with the locals- they're friendly and have the best recommendations. read more

Terrible. I ordered delivery from this place. They gave my delivery to the wrong person.. I sit and wait for over an hour, then find out they gave it to the wrong person and they simply say oh we will cancel your order and refund your card and sorry we are closing and can't complete your order. Clearly customer service is low on the priority list for this place. I don't usually leave negative reviews...but I had to make an exception for Malulu Sushi. I ordered via DoorDash and received an order that was miniature. The crunchy role was the smallest one I've ever seen with almost no fish. The chicken teriyaki was uncooked and extremely tiny. Portions here are very very very small. Avoid ordering from Malulu. I spent $55+ on DoorDash but the meal could have been purchased for $10 at your local grocery store. Extremely disturbing that this establishment is serving people with what I received. read more

Looking for sushi today, took a bold step and walked it. Very glad I did. Everything was delicious. Staff was super friendly.

My husband and I were looking forward to a nice lunch date! We sat at the sushi bar and we were asked what we would like, 20 minutes later, we were given our first item. We saw that they had bluefin tuna and we were very excited about this and placed two orders for the bluefin. Unfortunately, it had just been defrosted, yet, it wasn't fully defrosted. We asked the sushi chef if it had just come out of the freezer and he said yes, that's the problem. We told him that it was still frozen and he just said, really? He did not offer to rectify the situation in any way such as offering us a different type of fish or making an adjustment to the bill. It was truly disappointing. Also, the sushi chef pulled up his mask and then touched the sushi he was making without washing his hands. This is the equivalent to touching your mouth and then touching the food. The server was very friendly and attentive! This is why I'm giving it 2 stars rather than 1. read more

Great sushi! We came here hungry and ready to celebrate Father's Day! Easy parking in nice shopping center. The staff are very friendly and served us drinks and appetizers quickly. Their menu has a great assortment of fresh sushi, poke, udon, salads, appetizers, etc... the poke nachos are so nice and fresh. Tasty combo of flavors! The food was great, but if spent over $50 per person on dinner, I expect you to deliver the drinks as well. Had great dinner with just water. A diamond in the rough. Kazuma is a phenomenal sushi chef with an adorable personality. The fish is fresh, service is great, prices are amazing. Rolls, specials, and creations are delightful and fun. Bonus points for the consistent 80's music; the fact that Level 42 is playing constantly earns Kazuma an ancillary star. Sit at the bar if you can, if not the tables are just as good, though being able to watch Kazuma craft up customer orders adds to the experience. The sole waiter, Matt, is super friendly and helps keep orders moving. I find myself somewhat conflicted as I hope Kazuma and Co. become more popular since they deserve the business however the selfish part of me hopes that this stays a hidden gem so there's never a wait. 6/5 stars. read more
