The food is incredible, the biscuits and gravy are to die for and omelette was awesome. My new favorite breakfast spot here in Ashland City

A new favorite for me! I found this place on Yelp looking for a good place for breakfast, I found it. This place is great! The menu has so many different favorites of mine so I picked the #1 breakfast. It's a good mix of breakfast staples, eggs, meat, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. Everything was served piping hot and was delicious! I had not expected such a great meal and delicious food on my first try in a new city and restaurant. I can't wait to go back in the morning for breakfast again. Everything was delicious but the biscuits and gravy deserve special mention. The biscuits are the best I have ever eaten, light, fluffy, crispy edges. I don't know what their secret is but these are the best biscuits I've ever had. The gravy is also awesome with chunks of sausage and a perfect blend of spices blended together with a smooth texture. Just thinking about the biscuits and gravy makes my mouth water and my stomach growl with hunger. The servers are so sweet and tentative. Our drinks were always full. Everything we would normally have to ask for at other restaurants was brought out with the food, I'm talking about things like ketchup, syrup, butter, creamer, extra napkins. After ordering the food was served quick and it was fresh and hot. It wasn't sitting around waiting to be served. When the meal was over and the plates were taken away our drinks were topped off and we were able converse with each other while our check was being processed by our server. Our server was a wonderful lady who was friendly and helpful and always carried a great smile. The dining experience was very relaxed. This is one of those places where the locals meet and enjoy great food and conversation together. It's the kind of place that you feel comfortable being at. You feel like you're one of the locals too. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, everyone says hello with a genuine smile. This is one of those places that you wish you had at home. I'm already planning my next visit to Ashland City and Mama D's is on the top of my list. read more

Glad to find this restaurant in our area since there are so few meat and three options around us. The food was great, portions were huge, and service was friendly. Happened to be in town Saturday Jan 17 around lunchtime and decided Mama Ds would be good place to eat opposed to fast food. I enjoy patron local businesses and breakfast served at lunchtime sounded good. Don't live in Ashland City and had never been in the restaurant before. My husband and I seated ourselves per the sign. Now normally when you sit down you receive a menu right away and/or drink order. We received neither after two different waitresses looked at us and said they would be right with us to take our order. We waited for a long time while said waitresses perceded to ignore us as they catered to locals or patrons they knew. I get that but as new customers you would normally be wanting to impress new business so that they too could potentially be regulars as well. Clearly this was not the case. We used the restroom and I walked out of store and waited on him to leave. As soon as we left another couple sat down in the seats we just vacated and were waited on right away! No one said a word to us as we were leaving only the waitress with nose ring looked at me. What a shame we didn't get to find out just how great your food of ten years is and why you are a staple in area. Do you only cater to locals or folks you know? If so please don't bother to wait on outsiders if you plan to only treat them with same rude behavior! We deserve an apology but know we won't get one. Old Hickory, TN read more

It's a decent place food wise, they open too late and hardly seem to ever be open. People that want breakfast are done gone to Nashville or to work by the time they open. The food is pretty good just takes a while to get your food if you like to wait a while. I remember every time I was trying to go here they were closed, or not open due to repairs, or closed. I finally got in when they opened and still waited about 45 minutes for food. They won't last long if they don't at least improve on the hours and service of the food. Always a home run! The food is delicious, and plenty of it. The ladies running the popular breakfast spot are fabulous, the ambiance is warm and inviting. Highly recommend going soon after they open or closer to lunch time, because it gets crowded (which is always a wonderful sight to see at the locally owned anything ) Our sever, Grace, couldn't have been more lovely. We tried to try Mama D's several months ago but the power went out (due to local construction, not their fault) and we had to leave having just had our coffee. Well, we finally got back around to coming back and had breakfast on a recent Friday morning and loved it. My wife said she would let anyone know who asked about it that it's basically like having breakfast at a grandmother's house--from set up to atmosphere to style and quality of food, if you grew up in the south or midwest and were fortunate enough to have a good cook as a grandmother, you'll remember this kind of down home, no frills, straightforward food. The pancakes are fluffy and buttery, the biscuits crisp and buttery, they can actually cook your eggs to order even if you want them just over easy, the standout (for me) was the hashbrown casserole as it's cheesy and tangy. The gravy is good if I prefer my own (sorry), but it's certainly quicker and easier to let them make it for you! The service here is super friendly and kind. Prices are fair--yes, they're higher now than they probably have ever been due to current inflation, but hopefully they'll drop back down a bit when that eases. It's still fair as we at and had coffee for two and it was less than $30 after a 25% tip. Note--I do wish they'd use less styrofoam as they use it for gravy bowls and water glasses (and I hate that styrofoam that basically never leaves the planet) but the rest of their plateware is rewashable. read more

We are from out of town and love eating at the local spots! Mama Ds popped up and we had to try it. We immediately got seated by hostess who said "I'll sit you here." Put the menus and forks down on the table and walked away. Wasn't the friendliest. Our waitress grabbed our drinks and orders. My food came out but not my husbands. She came back and asked what he ordered. He told her. She then came and said they keyer didn't put in your food so they are cooking now. Brought the food out and wasn't right. Our meal ticket was completely wrong. Food was great, but the service and organization just wasn't there for us. read more

Mama D's is truly a local small town family owned restaurant. My 5 star review is for their French Toast, which is perhaps the best I've had in decades. Their eggs are also amazing, and are huge as compared to Waffle House. If you like an atmosphere that's like going over to Grandma's house for breakfast, then Mama D's is the place to go. read more

Since moving to their new location this place has been a dumpster fire. I have been to the new location 3 times now and every time the food takes forever to get to the table. The first time we went it wasn't too bad of a wait maybe 30 minutes, the second time it took 45 minutes to get to the the table, but yesterday it took an hour and a half from the time we ordered until we got our food. There were tables around us just getting up and leaving. And to add insult to injury the server kept giving lame excuses for the slow service, she even lost our order at the one hour and fifteen minute mark and we had to order again. But the kicker to all of this is they didn't offer to comp the meals for taking so long... not even a discount. Needless to say as people who used to love eating here I doubt we will be back. One other note all 3 times we went to the restaurant it was not that busy. read more

This is the sweetest experience! I felt transported back in time when I walked into the book/gift shop. The restaurant is in the back and both the family members that own and work there as well as the customers were very friendly.
